And when placing the order--the food is always ready within 20 minutes! We picked up the order and also got a free liter of soda. The entire family is so kind when ever I pick up from the store. I hesitate to write this because the last thing I want to do is hurt someones business during this time, but I feel it's important. This place *does* have really tasty Chinese food for an affordable price, so my negative review isn't from the taste. I'm giving this place 1 star because of cleanliness. I placed an order here last week, walked in to pickup my food and not a single employee was wearing a mask. Not the owner, her daughter, her son, or the chef. I literally saw the chef hanging over the grill without a mask on. I was shocked. I took my food, walked to the car then realized 'I don't feel comfortable eating any of this.' I walked back in, asked for my money back. The owner argued with me for a little while and told me "I put on the mask when I charged you." I tried to explain to her she was missing the point. Its not about wearing a mask while you take my card, it's about wearing the mask while you're cooking our food. Eventually she did give me my money back. Not only is it disgustingly unsafe to cook food that way, but it's against the law (right now). The fact that she thought I was being unreasonable tells me that they never wear masks when they cook and if thats something you care about (like me), then you're going to want to avoid this place. As a side note -- I called a friend of mine (who also orders from this place routinely) to tell him the story on my way home. He told me he had stopped ordering from there months ago bc a medal prong from the grill scraper was stuck in his general tsaos and he almost swallowed it. I think the food here is good but the lack of care towards cleanliness and quality is a dealbreaker. I will never be coming back here again, and thats following 3 years of this being our main place. read more

Delicious take-out Chinese. Plenty of street parking, friendly staff, and food made fresh. I recently ordered the kung po and chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce combo platters and they were packed flavor and tasted delicious, despite seeming as if they both used the same base (the chicken & broc did not really taste like it was made with authentic garlic sauce), but alas, still really good with the perfect balance of sauce and not overly salty at all. My co-worker and I stopped in for lunch since we were in the area. It's certainly not a sit-down restaurant and it's all takeout. We sat at one of the two tables in the restaurant. It's a basic and common Chinese takeout place. I ordered the General Tso's chicken lunch special which came with soup or egg roll and a choice of white or fried rice. I had the wonton soup, ordered an egg roll on the side, and white rice with the chicken. The wonton soup was ok. I've had better. I never received my egg roll. The General Tso's chicken dish was good but the portion was lacking. I've had bigger lunch portions elsewhere. Prices were very reasonable and service was quick. There is on street parking but you'll be lucky to get a spot. read more

Wow, this place served up one of the least satisfying meals I've experienced anywhere in northern New Jersey. The restaurant's version of vegetable fried rice was nothing like fried rice is supposed to be. It was a mish-mash of soggy, tasteless, unflavored American vegetables with a smattering of rice mixed in with it. The Black Bean Chicken, for which dish I specifically asked that the onions be not cooked too much came with (again) soggy onions - and what a quantity of them. Plus, we could barely pick out about 8 measly pieces of chicken mixed in with those onions. And white meat chicken at that! This dish is supposed to a succulent mixture of thigh meat and lightly cooked onions with lots of savory, garlicky black bean flavor .... But the black beans were hard to find too, and the garlic flavor? It was completely missing. And excuse me, but why was the dish colored red? Nothing that is red ought to be part of this dish. I tasted something slightly sweet as well and wouldn't be surprised to learn that you just randomly decided to throw a bit of ketchup in - just for fun, or something. Additionally, the dishes were drench with MSG. I was only part way through eating before I felt the cranial pressure of a growing MSG headache. People, I recommend that you take a couple of cooking classes and try again - your food is simply not up to par. And say, drop the MSG. Properly cooked food doesn't need it, anyway. read more

I'm so incredibly grateful for my friend putting me onto Hong Kong Restaurant! I've lived in Bergen County for 24 years now without a solid Chinese takeout restaurant to rely on, but that all changed this week after I ordered from HKR. The place itself is tiny, definitely more suited to take out than dine-in. I called in an order of Beef Chow Fun and Moo Goo Gai Pan and had my food ready for me in 20 minutes. The lady running the counter had her hands full with a bunch of other orders, so you can tell other people love this place too! Both dishes were The Best I have tasted from a Chinese takeout place. The beef was incredibly moist with a nice, soft texture. Flavors were on point and portion sizes for the meat were surprisingly large! No, definitely NOT "exceptional!" Decided to try this place based on it's reviews and was sadly disappointed. The food basically matches with that of any other Chinese fast food joint. The steamed dumplings tasted exactly the same as two other Chinese joints I've been to... (Seems they all order the same pre-made dumplings from the same company!) This was my first visit here. It was on a Friday at 1pm after finishing a 5K race in town on New Year's Day. It's a small storefront more suited for take-out but there were two tables and no customers so I ordered to stay. The counter lady was always smiling which is important for repeat business. I enjoyed my Hunan Beef while watching many drivers make illegal U-turns across the street at the Chase Bank. The place is sort of dirty and messy but that doesn't concern me too much. Tried this place for the first time tonight.. Been looking for a good quality local chinese take-out place for quite some time now.. Haven't been impressed until now! My search is over..By far the best chinese I've had in the area.. I called to place the order ahead of time and picked it up. I must comment that the place itself was very clean inside. Food was ready on time. First impression = a good one.. I ordered the chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce, which is one of my fav Chinese dishes, and I must say it was extremely tasty! It was all white meat with lots of fresh broccoli, and the garlic sauce was more like a thicker glaze, both a bit sweet and garlicky as well. Delicious! I also ordered the sesame chicken and the beef with red bean sauce. The sesame chicken was equally as tasty as the chicken with garlic sauce. The beef with red bean sauce wasnt spectacular, but it wasnt bad either.. And surprisingly the beef wasnt too chewy or rubber-like, which is the way I have found other beef dishes to be from other chinese restaurants.. * I was also pleased to find out that this restaurant does NOT use MSG in any of their dishes. Only complaint I can say is that they skimped a bit on the meat in the chicken with garlic sauce and on the beef dish. Both had tons of veggies but not so much meat (I know its typical of most places).. However the sesame chicken was a good size portion of almost entirely chicken. The old owners were great, and so are the knew ones. If you live around the Fair Lawn area I always recommend getting Chinese take out from here. My family and I always order from here and there food is consistently good. It rarely lasts more than a couple days if there are any leftovers. I pass by Hong Kong everyday when I walk home from school so I thought I would try it. The prices were very reasonable so that's why I have them 2 stars. The soup was very very salty, I felt like I was drinking the Dead Sea. The chicken in the soup was so processed it was gross. The pork lo-main was also very salty. I recommend to go to Baumgarts in Ridgewood. It's more expensive but it's such good quality. I will never go back to Hong Kong again. read more
