Here's a one-star review for Gourmet Garden in Wyckoff, NJ: One Star We decided to grab some quick Chinese food from Gourmet Garden on our way out of town, but it was a decision we deeply regret. We were charged a $2 upcharge for white meat chicken and an extra $1 for soup with the lunch special, which wouldn't have been a big deal if we had been informed beforehand. However, the real issue was the food itself. The chicken was absolutely disgusting--chewy and filled with fat. It definitely needs to be inspected because what we received was not acceptable. The worst part was that we all got extremely sick after eating here. We spent the entire night and the next day in the bathroom. This was the only thing we ate that day, so it had to be the chicken. I am incredibly disappointed that a place like this is open in a town with so many great restaurants. I also blame myself for making such a poor choice when there are so many other options in town. Stay far away from Gourmet Garden unless you want to be sick for days. There is nothing gourmet about this place. You've been warned! read more

This place is legit inedible, stay away! We got a few thing, general tsao's chicken, chicken and broccoli, and beef lo mein (w/ veg fried rice). The General Tsao was soggy in the sauce and flavorless, the chicken from the chicken and broccoli was rubber, and the lo mein couldn't be cheaper. Nothing about this place is good, for your own good stay away. If refunds were a thing with food I would have requested one. We didn't even finish the food, just threw it away. We have been coming to this restaurant for years for their takeout. Until tonight it has been extremely satisfying. Our order tonight included spring rolls which were supposed to be two in a package. There was only one. It is also the first time we have ever ordered Chinese food where rice was not included. We are extremely disappointed in this. read more

First, the simple take-out order was incorrect and after trekking back for the correct one, an apology would have been appreciated yet one was not given. The General Tso's was just a lump of soggy little clumps drowned in what tasted like bottled gelatinous sauce from the supermarket, and the boneless spareribs were what I'd imagine an old tire to taste like. I have lived nearby for decades, and have ordered from Gourmet Garden probably close to 80 times over the years. It occurs to me that I have seriously neglected this place by not writing a review until now. You know how it goes, you always think to write a review about a place when it's terrible, but neglect to write one when you've had a good experience. Maybe that's just me. I digress - over the years I've been ordering from here, I may have had one or two times where an item wasn't up to snuff, but honestly I cannot remember when that might have been. Gourmet Garden is consistently high quality, well-prepared, and delicious. Prices are not out of line with other Chinese restaurants in the area, and everything is always prepared promptly. Never had an issue until my last two orders. I placed an order online and had it delivered to my job as I've done a few times before. Well this time I was missing an item so I called to inform them. To start the lady was very rude and wouldn't let me talk before she started talking over me and hung up. I called back and requested a Manager to explain I was missing an item and how can we resolve it and this time she informed me that I placed the order online so it's not her fault, Inwhich the time before this I ordered ribs and 2 out of the four was just bone but I was at work so I took it as a lost but back to her she then asked if I was coming to pick it up I informed her no which is why I ordered for delivery. So pissed because I did like the food and the service was fine the many times before I used them but the rudeness these last two times is enough. Gourmet Garden is where my family usually goes to whenever we want Chinese take out. We are pretty selective about where we get Chinese food, and this is one of the better takeout places around. The dishes I have had here include Singapore Mei Fun (Curry), Beef Chow Fun, House Special Lo Mein, House Special Fried Rice, Four Happiness, Hunan Chicken, Chicken with Mixed Vegatables, Seafood Special, and Beef with Eggplant. Overall, the quality is good (although not always consistent). If you like spicy food, I highly recommend the Singapore Mei Fun- thin rice noodles with curry, meat, and vegetables. Other favorites of mine are the eggplant dishes and the House Special Fried Rice which is flavorful without being greasy as Fried Rice can sometimes be at some restaurants. The food does not have MSG. There are also steamed diet options available that are served without salt, oil, sugar, and corn starch. The takeout order comes with individually wrapped fortune cookies. Sometimes, we have also been given a liter of soda as a bonus. read more

My family and I have been eating Chinese here for as long as I can remember (grew up in Wyckoff). While it has changed owners over the last few years, this is always our go to chinese place. I love their chicken lo mien, pork fried rice, sesame chicken, egg rolls, and dumplings. I am surprised to see so many bad reviews but I feel the need to say GOOD JOB! We ordered about once a week from this wonderful Chinese Take-out restaurant which is around the corner from our home for many years. The food is always delicious and the service is efficient. We love the Hot and sour soup, Singapore Mei Fun, Chicken with eggplant, and Fried bean curd with black bean sauce. I think the chef here has changed and the food has gotten a lot better! We typically order the egg foo young, chicken mooshoo, shrimp and lobster sauce, and the chicken mei fun. The food has gotten a lot less greasy and the egg foo young brown sauce is thin and delicious. It is our go-to Chinese spot in the neighborhood and I've grown to like this place even more over my past few visits. Being Chinese, I am critical of a lot of fast food Chinese food. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT order from this place ... Everything we got from this place was TERRIBLE . I noticed that the reviews were from previous years and thought they could have shaped up ... If possible they might be serving even worse food now . The food tasted OLD . The general tso was just old fried batter with barely any meat .. Beef and broccoli certainly wasn't real beef in any way .... Even the won ton soup was so mushy that chewing wasn't necessary ... Needless to say the food went uneaten .... For a corner Chinese take-out, this is a great place. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is also very good. I've been getting take out here for 3 years and have never been disappointed. They always use fresh vegetables, and the meat / seafood is good quality. Big shrimp & scallops in the seafood dishes. They also offer brown rice at no extra charge, which is a big plus for me. The food is not overly greasy like many take out places, and you can eat pretty healthy. I've probably picked up 75 orders by now, so I can say I have not had problems with "consistency and quality" -- and I'm pretty particular. The store front isn't great, but you're not going there for a fine dining experience -- just take out. This is definitely the best take out in Wyckoff and the immediate area. read more

I work very close to this restaurant and eat here at least once a week.the food is pretty good in my opinion and many of my customers eat there as well and feel the same way.every place has an occasional "off day"....just saying.portions are nice size, quality is good, and it's hot as a mother!
