I had always seen the New China Restaurant in Manteca next to the Save Mart on Yosemite Blvd. and decided to call in my to-go order since I was nearby. I ordered a chicken chow mein and a vegetable dish with mushrooms and snow peas. My order was ready in 15 minutes. The restaurant is a little dark with an odd layout. When you walk-in, it looks as if it is setup for take out only, but if you walk all the way to the left, there is a hostess stand where you can wait to be seated. If you like American-ized Chinese food, this is the place for you. I went with a couple of people who love this restaurant. Years after visiting New China restaurant in Ripon (2016?), I was hesistant. We were already going somewhere but they didn't tell me where. Everyone working there seems to be very positive and pleasant. The decorations are typically Chinese, heavy on the red and gold. They have two menus: one with Chinese food and another with o-sushi, etc. I have to remember that I'm back in California and there are few traditional restaurants, Chinese or Japanese. On the east coast, fusion restaurants aren't quite as popular. She asked about drinks. The couple wanted hot tea and I wanted iced tea. I ended up with hot tea. I ordered Szechuan style tofu with rice. The steamed rice was good. It should be for $3.50 a bowl. The main dish was interesting. It appeared to use molasses or something else sugar-y. It's this kind of thing that throws people when they finally have Szechuan style food and it doesn't taste anything like this. I remember asking the owner of a restaurant why they cooked that way and she told me "because they won't eat it the other way", which is probably true. So, if you like American-ized Chinese food, I'm sure you'll be happy. The couple enjoyed their food. So the service was not what I hoped for. Took over 45 minutes for a to go order. To be fair they had lots of to go orders and it was during the dinner rush time. The ambiance was cool in the dining area but not so desirable in the to go section. Definitely needs a deep cleaning! The food was ok. I would give 2 stars for food with 5 being fabulous and 1 being horrible. My Wor Won Ton soup had two shrimp. The wontons were over cooked and falling apart. I had about three maybe four pieces of bbq pork in it, not whole slices just pieces. Also got the build your own combination plate, the chow mien lacked flavor and left a lot to be desired it gets a 1 star. The broccoli beef was good 3 stars and the sweet and sour chicken was 3 stars. I will need to give this place another try before 3 pm when everything is cheaper for one and I'm hoping less busy. Let me start off saying I have been going to New China in Manteca for years. This place was the place to be in the 2000s. I went with some co-workers in October 2023. In total, 4 of us dined and were promptly greeted and sat as soon as we walked in. The ambiance of this place continues to be great. The lighting is dim and it feels very comfortable and authentic. Our drinks orders were taken promptly and a short while later, our food orders were taken as well. I ordered the lunch plate with Broccoli beef and asked for them to use Mongolian Sauce instead of the regular sauce (extra $1.00), this gives it a little spicy kick. Try it, you won't regret it. I also ordered it with pork fried rice, which was about $1.00 extra (substituted for Steamed Rice). It came with daily soup as well. The flavor was good and about what I expected it to be. My only beef (pun intended) was that the portions seem to be pretty small, comparing to what I have been used to during previous visits. My co-workers also weren't happy with the taste of their meals, compared to other places in town. They mentioned that it tasted pretty bland. Overall, I give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars. I'd like to see some slightly more affordable options for lunch. Expect to pay about 12-15 (before tip) for a lunch plate and water. read more

This place reminds me of the Chinese restaurants in New York. They simply will satisfy your taste buds if you have a craving for Asian cuisine. New China, is a Japanese & Chinese restaurant combined and do both cultures cuisine on a very high level with mid range pricing. Friends and I ordered honey walnut prawns, beef chowmein, vegetable fried rice, tempura shrimp, salmon teriyaki, cherry chicken, pot stickers, egg rolls along with sushi dragon rolls. I tell you now, every dish was favorable, tasty and presented with love. This by far is my favorite Asian restaurant in Northern California, hands down. New China restaurant was worth the hour drive from the peninsula and it delivered. Big Time ! So if you're in Manteca, this place is hidden outside a strip mall and is a treasure. Good Chinese spot in the area. We decided to have dinner here last week. This place offers Japanese food as well. We chose to build our own combo plates. My dad ordered the pork fried rice, sweet & sour pork and beef with broccoli. My mom got the chicken chow mein , chicken with mixed vegetables and orange chicken. I ordered the Mongolian beef, white rice and honey walnut shrimp. The lack luster would have to be the chicken chow mein. It tasted bland and needed more flavor. I would pass next time on ordering the Mongolian beef, it had 95% onions and 4 to 5 pieces of beef. The ones that we liked are the orange chicken, sweet & sour pork and chicken with mixed vegetables. Overall, we enjoyed the food we ordered here. Service was good too. Will have to come back and try out their Japanese food. read more

Showed up to this establishment for a birthday lunch that we didn't reserve and the service workers were ready to accommodate this request for us. The ambience was a bit dark but that didn't slow down our party at all. We ordered our food and drinks and these came out in a reasonable amount of time. I had a much larger star review, but this is now the third time, I have coughed up plastic, and choked on plastic from their soups. Once was eating it from when my mother dropped some off... I assumed it was a fluke. Once while eating there, I again assumed/like an idiot, that this must just be some weird coincidence. But, we ordered soup again today, and I coughed up plastic, it cut my throat, and I'm over it. I can't even believe I allowed this to happen this many times. Definitely stupid on my part. I have photos of the plastic. It is thick, sharp, and no idea how much I actually swallowed. This is unacceptable, and not okay. This used to be my favourite place, but I can't ever eat here again. Check your soup. Mainly the won ton types. This was from one bowl. I haven't broke apart the rest but I am sure there is more plastic in there. read more

This used to be the go to spot for Chinese Food for me and my family. The quality of the food and flavor was top notch. Fast forward to today and if I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered the 3B and what was supposed to be Sweet & Sour Pork was nothing but breaded bread, yes, I said breaded bread, the meat was non-existent. The Chicken Chow Mien was bland. Tonight I had the Mexican Roll and Hot & Sour soup. The roll was pretty good with spicy crab and avocado on the inside, topped with cilantro and jalapeño. I think I'd order that one again. The hot and sour soup isn't at the top of my list. The broth is thick and almost syrupy in flavor, almost like a melted jelly consistency. Not my favorite. read more

This place is the worst. We stopped eating here awhile back and decided to try it again since we wanted Chinese food and sushi. Their meat tastes freezer burnt in the wonton soup and same with the tempura shrimp in the rolls. The food messed up all of our stomachs and all in all was not great. On top of that, my daughter slid her card twice and it kept saying denied, the lady said you don't have any money and walked away. Very rude. My daughter asked to run it again knowing there was money in her account and it went through. This will be the last time we eat here. Definitely not worth $120 read more

Gonna be honest I ordered 6B and got my noodles and rice with no flavor. I had to put sauce that I got from the store for flavor. Wouldn't recommend unless you like your food with no flavor and the best thing you can taste are the small veggies. We get take-out Chinese from here regularly, and it is consistently good. Our top favorites are sweet & sour chicken, Cathay garden vegetables, king-pao chicken, and their vegetable fried rice. Oh - and the cheese puffs with the sauce.......YUM!!!! read more

I really wanted to like this place... I mean, I really wanted to like this place! The menu looked really interesting and a little more authentic than the other Chinese spots in this area. I am from San Francisco, so the Chinese food offerings in the valley are piss poor compared to the city, but I suppose I will have to take what I can get. My husband and I got the barbecue pork chow mein, Kung Pao chicken and fried wontons. The Kung pao chicken has a strange sweet smell to it. And the Barbecue pork chow mein was a little bit sad also... There were a few measly pieces of barbecue pork, but overall, it wasn't disgusting. To be honest, the only part of the meal that was good was the fried wonton and that's pretty sad since this is a Chinese restaurant. I can fry wonton... I have been going here since they opened, the last two times I have went there it has been off somewhat. It was very cold in there and we asked to have the heat turned on and they acted oblivious to what we were talking about. We asked for hot tea for three got one we asked again for two more and all they did was bring out two more cups so I had to share mine. The food came out with the appetizers we ordered so our table was overfilled. Some of the meet tasted like pinesol. So she brings the bill and proceeds to tell me how I should and I told her we would take care of it separately. We left some cash but she followed us out yelling if I tipped OMG, she checked the table I guess didn't see and came running and yelling you no tip you no tip!! What in the heck is wrong with people I will tip what and when I want to. No going back there read more

The food I ordered was really good and ready in 20 minutes which was faster than other restaurants. I recommend the Twins Roll (sushi), house special fried rice, new China chow mein, beef chow fun and the POTSTICKERS with the sauce are to die for! The decor of the restaurant is very unique and eye pleasing. I have yet to explore the whole menu but look forward to doing so. read more

First time here, ordered a little bit of everything California roll was 10/10 according to my son. Pot stickers were amazing, some of the best we've ever had. Peking chicken was outstanding vegetables nice and crisp and sauce was bomb, lemon chicken so light crunchy and not sitting in sauce, house chicken was amazing as was pork fried rice. As exceptional as the food was so is the very caring and attentive staff. We are very picky with Chinese food and new to area, didn't expect it to be this wonderful. We will back very soon. read more
