Nice quiet place to relax and have tea and American Chinese food. They have a huge menu, with even sushi and very simple pad Thai on selection. If I'm not mistaken, we even ordered delivery from here the other night and their new York cheesecake, cream cheese wontons, and vegetable tempura were excellent. The only comment from that night is that the jalapeno fried rice needed a bit more soy sauce, but that was thankfully provided. For today's sit in, I ordered a very refreshing mango green tea, with a side of steamed pork dumplings. The sauce for the dumplings was less-vinegary and more sesame oil-forward. Still hearty. I am a regular here, I eat here about two times a week. They are really sweet people who work here and their website ordering system is impeccable. Their food is amazing but recently I noticed they've changed their chicken teriyaki. Not sure whether it's the sauce or the chicken or what it is but it's definitely different, more tangy? Not a fan. Wish they would change it back. Originally started eating here solely because of the chicken teriyaki and how it reminded me of the good memories of my childhood, it was spot on. Still love this place and I am definitely going to eat here still, maybe not as much, considering Yk the chicken but otherwise the lo mein and fried rice is great. read more

We ordered $70 of food and the only acceptable thing was the egg foo young! Even the soy sauce in the packets isn't real soy sauce! I could have gone to the grocery store and had this exact same meal (other than the egg foo young), honestly. They charge extra for soy sauce, hot mustard, duck sauce, etc. I have never had a Chinese place not include basic condiments and was annoyed, but I needed to have my hot Chinese mustard and paid for some packets of it, along with $1.50 for some hot chili oil (I ordered 2). NONE of the hot mustard and only one oil was in my bag! The chili oil was thin and had only a few flakes too. I ordered 4 oz of sweet and sour and only got half of that too. Szechuan beef was not at all spicy and had squash in it?? Fried rice was worse than stuff I've heated in the microwave from frozen! I can even make this stuff up! I'm not sure how this place is rated as highly as it is! I just moved to the area and thought I was going to eat some good Chinese food; I was VERY wrong! I am beyond disappointed and feel I got ripped off more than just being charged for things I have paid for. We've ordered from here a lot but we've reached our last time. Food is OK but the service is marginal at best. Delivery has been slowing down for years. We ordered our food for delivery online from their website recently but it never came. I called to look for our food after 1.5 hours; a woman answered the phone and said she would investigate and call us back. She never did. I drove in to investigate at the two hour mark. Our food was ready; I asked the guy at the counter to refund the delivery charge and tip but he couldn't figure out the register and tried to charge me again until I pointed out we paid online. Got home and we were missing part of our order and called to let them know - think there was a refund for at least the charges of the services not provided and food not received? Still have not seen a credit to my card. I completely understand mistakes happen - but if you can't own up to them and make things right then this isn't a place I'm comfortable doing more business. Ok -- this review is mainly for their hot and sour soup. IT'S SO GOOD. I am a hot and sour soup fiend and order it every time I get Chinese food. Theirs is full of tofu, mushrooms, bamboo, etc. All the good stuff. The soup was just the right consistency - not too watery, not too thick. I actually think it could've used a little more spice but other than that it was perfect. It's hard to find good hot and sour soup. I will definitely be ordering more. Menu is huge, but there are no descriptions of the entrées that they offer. The cashiers always claim that they have no idea what is in any of the entrées. I have ordered many takeout meals here, but no more. I have been eating Chinese food for over fifty years, and worked many years at Chinese restaurants. I know what is supposed to be in all those that are found in U.S. Chinese restaurants. Hong Kong Tokyo puts whatever they want in anything that is ordered, and it is not until I get home with the food that I find out I was cheated. Last week I order Mapo Tofu, a favorite of mine. They gave me tofu in dark brown gravy (cornstarch, water, and food coloring but no flavor) with frozen peas and carrots (obvious from the tiny uniform cubes of carrots) with chunks of rotted mushrooms. It was expensive, bad tasting, and not Mapo Tofu. When they ring the order the numbers punched in are not viewable, and they hold out their hand for card or cash and only tell you what they charged, afterward. When I point out that they charged more than menu price, they claim the menu does not reflect current prices. When I ordered a rice noodle dish, they gave me wheat noodles, which I can't eat. Stay away from these money grubbers who know nothing about Chinese food and don't care, either. Staff all appear to be Southeast Asian, which may explain why nobody seems to know anything about Chinese food. They also use a lot of gross tasting canned vegetables like baby corn and water chestnuts, that have sour metalic taste to them, as if stored in a giant open can in the refrigerator for so long that they have off flavors. read more

Very disappointed. I am currently pregnant and haven't had Chinese food in a long time. I ordered delivery since it's less than 10min away from my apartment. It took 50min to get my order. My girlfriend and I had recently moved to cottage grove and decided to order food from here through Grubhub. We ordered shrimp lo mein, eel and cucumber roll, and the Manhattan roll. After all was said and done, it came out to about $44. What we received was disappointing at best. The "shrimp" lo mein had about 5 TINY shrimp, was mostly comprised of vegetables (?), and the noodles were less like lo mein and much more like udon. They were thick and flavorless. The eel roll was not bad, unless you really like cucumber because it was PACKED with it with little eel to be seen. The big sad. The Manhattan roll, which retails at about $16, was also pretty skimpy compared to the price. They should name it the regret roll, or maybe the unimpressive roll. I don't know, get creative. Finally, desert! The rice pudding we paid $4 dollars for! It ended up being pre-packaged, DO NOT BUY! If you must have it, you can find it at Wal-Mart for 88 cents. That's right, you can get about 5, but I would not recommend it. In fact, I wouldn't recommend this place at all. There's nothing more disappointing than bad Chinese food. When you are in the mood for it, and it doesn't deliver, it's the worst. My dining experience tonight at Hong Kong Tokyo takes the cake as the worst chinese food I've ever had. We received an ad for it in the mail a few months back, and thought we would be adventurous and go for it. It was a mistake. The worst was the beef+vegetable dish; totally bland and the beef was fatty. The chicken dumplings were flavorless and not recognizable as chicken. The pork fried rice was the best of the dishes we had, and it wasn't good. In summary: stick with the Chinese restaurant you typically go to and avoid Hong Kong Tokyo. Sichuan Beef lunch special. It came out quickly, and was hot. It was served with fried rice and an oh-so-forgettable egg roll. That roll could have come out of a grocery's frozen food rack, it was so forgettable. The beef dish was not bad. Seasoning was OK, but I sure didn't get that nice "mouth buzz" that a healthy helping of Sichuan peppers is supposed to give. OK, though. The rice, on the other hand, was off. There delivery so that's good for me and others in my or similar position the people have always been friendly when I order. Good Chinese food for the amount paid. I'm from out of town staying at a hotel and was in desperate need of delivery. This restaurant was super fast. Unexpectedly so. They brought the food in half the time estimated. The fried rice was seasoned well with lots of extras mixed in. The egg drop soup was more brothy and less "egg-like" which is how I prefer it. The soup was also pretty salty, not overly so but I didn't need to put soy sauce in like I usually do. I'm obsessed with crab Rangoon so I've definitely had my fair share. This was not as crunchy and more soft. Filled to the brim with cream cheese and other spices. What they lack in quality they make up for in quantity! Definitely recommend it for a cheap, large portion, tasty meal. Only downfalls: they didn't bring plasticware or napkins. And I only received 3 packets of soy sauce.
