This guy (the owner) must do awesome work - because he has absolutely no customer service skills at all. Went in to get in estimate on some minor body damage (someone damaged my parked car) and I met with the owner. He was rude, abrupt and just plain ole odd. While in the waiting room - I asked another customer if this was typical behavior. And he chuckled and responded, "Yes. But his prices were so cheap that he just sucked it up and ignored his attitude." A co-worker recommended him - but my take on this type of attitude BEFORE you've even touched my car - is that if I have even a minor problem with the quality of your work - you're not going to be willing to acknowledge or even address it. read more

The review below is pretty much spot on. I met the owner of the place and the first thing I noticed about him was the computer head-set he had strapped on over his baseball cap; it gave him the look of someone who worked at the drive-through of a fast-food restaurant. There's no greetings or hellos when you walk in. He'll most likely be watching the golf channel and surfing the internet looking at pictures of glamor models. When you ask him for a estimate, get ready to battle. For someone you just met, it's hard to believe he can be as hostile as he is. The real surprise is the price. I shopped around at a couple of different body shops and his estimate wasn't one of the cheaper ones. In fact, it was the 2nd highest estimate I got from the 6 shops I visited. To put this in perspective, 5 of the 6 shops printed out estimates using the exact same body shop computer software and their the invoices looked identical; only Hong's had the highest price. The only other store with a higher price was the dealer affiliated body shop I went to. But they seemed about 1000% more trust-worthy than this back-yard ding factory. read more

Summary: This place is terrible. The people are incompetent. The owner is a liar. Details: I took my fiance's car to the shop 3 weeks ago. There were several things we had him do to the car: change oil, replace radiator hose, replace coolant/flush radiator, etc. Since the weather has been getting colder, I decided to check the coolant to see what the freezing point was. I found that the coolant was already rusty again even though they had just flushed and replaced it. I also found that the freezing points was roughly 10oF, which isn't that good. It should be around -40oF. After discovering this, I was a little annoyed but I called Hong and he said to bring it in and he would fix it for free. I even asked him twice if I would have to pay anything to get it fixed and he said "no". Today, I drove up the shop and was about to give him the key when he told me it would cost at least $60 to fix it. I reminded him of our phone call yesterday and he said that I "must have misunderstood." After discussing this for 10 min we yelled at each other and I left. Also, he didn't know what an antifreeze/coolant tester was (It tests the freezing point of your coolant). This is a very bad sign. Maybe a random person doesn't need to know anything about this but a mechanic certainly does. I just hope they didn't mess up the other repairs that they performed. read more

I don't live anywhere near Hong's Body Shop. I was referred there after an accident down at the airport. With four cars (seems like I'm always wrecking one of them), a good body shop is essential. Hong's staff knows there stuff. Not the constant turn-over you get other places. Pricing is all by the book (you can get it on the internet), so price shopping on body repair is useless--except the dealers will upscope all the time and Hong doesn't try to do more than what you want or what is needed. I brought my favorite car in (towed in) after it was smashed by a tree and he didn't try to get me to spend megabucks to fix and old car that insurance isn't going to give me more than $6k as totaled. Pragmatically he said "its totaled" (before the adjuster even saw it). And then he said that I should get a newer car since finding the parts is just going to get more and more difficult. If I want him to spend all my hard earned cash on a car that has had a good life, he will, but he starts from common sense. The service side: I haven't used that part of it. After I painted my 1986 convertible 9 years ago, it was like a new car. It looked great. It was worth doing since I knew I'd drive it another decade. He isn't aligned with any insurance company. I have Allstate, and tried Sterling in Decatur. Wasn't happy with the results. It was mediocre. Oh, and if you want Maaco quality and price, well then go to Maaco. Also it is on the CCT #10 line which run to Arts Center and MARTA. Otherwise have a buddy or Enterprise pick you up. Eleven years of being a loyal customer--and actually I'm not that bad a driver--just unlucky sometimes--and counting. read more

I came here and got a quote on my car that had a couple of scratches on it. Their prices were about the same as some of the bigger shops I visited, but I decided on them because they were closer to where I live. Everything seemed kosher when I first got my car. The scratches were gone and the car looked fixed. Fast forward 8 weeks and the paint this guy used to cover the scratches started to wear off. The scratches were visible again. When I went back to the shop, the guy told me he wasn't responsible for the paint coming off. I showed him a copy of the receipt I got from the shop when I picked up my car that stated there was an one year warranty on all work performed. He refused to recognize the warranty. Hong was recommended by a neighbor who always knows the best deals in town. Hong is a character . . . Jerry Seinfield would love him. Hong says little, puts on his red gloves and evaluates your damage. Have no idea why he uses red gloves but we joke with our friend about them. Hong doesn't need a great personality (as some other reviewers who haven't used him complain) because he is the cheapest price in town and his quality is excellent. He will throw in repair of little dents for $60 when he is doing a more major repair. We have been to Classic Collision in Marietta and Hong. Both are great. Classic Collision details your car plus does an excellent job of repair. You feel like you have a better than new car. However, these little extra touches cost more. Hong is less frills and cheaper. If your car's interior is dirty, you will see a beautiful exterior repair and an unchanged dirty interior. If you are paying out of pocket for the repair, you can pay for your own detail plus have money left over with Hong. Our cars are luxury vehicles and we recommend both repair shops read more

I come here for my every oil change. I've yet to have any issues with my car but until so I'll continue to go here. Before they work on my car they always come out if there's something I need or they want to suggest I do something as they're working on it before they just do it and charge me. It's never crowded. They just updated the bathroom and candy available. It would be better if he greeted us than us walking in his office but that's the set up for right now. Other than that great place. And they give paper receipt explaining what they did for you to keep with your car history. read more

I give both Hong's Auto Center and Body Shop my highest recommendation. I have a 1994 Lexus ES300 with over 300,000 miles (looks like a brand-new car), and I wouldn't have gotten to this point with the vehicle cost-effectively without Hong's services (both on the auto center side and body shop side). On the Auto Center side, Hong's has been servicing my car since 2004 when I was told by the dealership that I needed a new transmission at a cost of approximately $5,000. Hong's was able to locate a used transmission and install for less than half that amount, and it has lasted longer than the original transmission. Before 2004, I had religiously taken more car to the dealership to be service and never seemed to come out of there with a bill under $1,000. Hong's also gone above and beyond the call of duty in suggesting other cost-effective repairs over the years. I haven't come across any Lexus ES 300s that have this type of mileage and are driving impeccably. I could certainly afford to purchase a brand new Lexus, but I see no reason to because cosmetically the card looks great in part to the work done by Hong's Body Shop . Hong's Body Shop did an excellent job in matching the mauve color (difficult color) of my car in painting the hood and the front bumper. Once I do purchase a new Lexus, I will be taking the vehicle to Hong's to service it. In short, I give Hong my highest recommendation. Glad to see that AAA also Hong's Auto Center and Body Shop as a preferred provider. read more

Best Prices in the area. My car broke down in Marietta, over the weekend and AAA recommended Hongs as one of the shops. The tow driver kept insisting to take me to another shop. I later did a price compare found out that the other shops prices were 40% higher than Hongs. Go figure... read more

My parents have been coming to Hongs since I was a kid. So, I followed suit and have been coming to him since I got my first car. He used to have another location more up north torwards Town Center Mall back in the day. It's funny reading the reviews because they are spot on about Hong. He is a character hahaha. You shouldn't really take his persona to heart.. I mean I can see why how people view him as odd and rude. You got to understand that English isn't his first language.. obviousy. So it's pretty difficult to crack a conversation with him. Eventually, I got used to his dry humor along with his broken english. I always chuckle when I leave his shop because he's been the SAME guy since I've been coming here. He grows on you and in the end- he'll treat you right and has always done exceptional work on our cars. I'm not really a car guy and he does TRY his best to break it down for me on his computer.. This guy has been in Marietta for almost 30 years and his bodyshop is if not one of the biggest on Cobb Parkway. There's a reason for that. If I could rate this establishment a 0 star, I WOULD. The owner was so rude & disrespectful for no reason! When he told me the price for the work that needed to be done I said ok, then I mentioned I bought the parts and he said "That's trash." I was still going to go through with allowing him to do the work because I really needed it done, but then he went on to say that I'd have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for his parts because he didn't want to use the ones I bought so I said I cannot afford that. He then made a shoo motion with his hand and told me he won't work on my car. I told him that he didn't have to speak to me like that and he tried to bicker with me, so I said just give me my car and key. When one of his mechanics pulled my car up, he proceeded to shoo me again and told me "Go, go!" I have never been treated like this while being a potential customer. And on top of that, he didn't even diagnose my car correctly! Terrible customer service, will not be coming here again and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to either, unless you want to be talked down to and belittled. read more

I have to say my cousin used to go here and complained a lot on how they messed up his car. Not that I like to take risks but I use my own personal experience over other person's experiences to say whether a business is good or not. Yes because many may use other people's experience when they grade a company. The reason I have a different experience from my cousins has to do with trust. That's if a company come off as a honest business I would deal with them over folks that tries to use big words or shock level to gain business. There are many untrustworthy companies that tries to scare you into doing business with them. You go in for a small problem and they scare you into a big work which consists a lot of money coming out of the pocket. I remember I've took my car to somewhere on Buford Highway where a Korean gentleman gave me a quote without fully listening to my problem. I was told by a worker there that it only costs $24 where the owner was trying to squeeze $238 from me. That's what I look for whenever I take my car in for services. This time I've took my pair of used tires that I've kept when I purchased to replace four new tires sometime last year. I went in today to use those tires to replace my two front tires. They told me over the phone it'll costs $48 with everything labor charge and all but they shown me the tires I brought in had problems on it and I looked and confirmed that to be true. And they also told me the two tires on my car had a better wear and tear than the ones I'm trying to replace with. So we ended up with a cheaper way which is to just do a tire rotation. You see many places would've just done the work knowingly that there's a problem with the tire. They know that I would have to come back to them if a problem arises which they already know about. They did not go with that route but gave me a better option and was able to save my money in the process. I would go back just because of this incident. That's why I say when I take my car in I look for how trustworthy is the company in whom I'm trusting with my car. I hope everyone don't just take my word for it and have your own personal experience and let us know about it whether good or bad. read more

I went in for an oil change and was told my car required a "special oil filter" which was 26 dollars alone. My car is 10 years old and I get oil changes regularly. I have never been told this by anyone. Mr. Hong was also rude and has poor customer service skills. There was also a clanging noise coming from under the hood I asked to be checked. The gentleman who performed the oil change told me it was my engine and would need to be replaced. Upon 2nd opinion from another mechanic at another shop, I was informed it was the alternator that needed to be replaced. Once this was replaced, I had no additional problems. This gentleman was nice, but if I'd followed his suggestion, I would have incurred a greater expense than that of the cost of an alternator. More than anything, I'm disappointed in Mr. Hong's attitude and poor customer service, not to mention attempting to overcharge me for an oil filter, as a trusted associate recommended his shop to me.
