I have been wanting to here since I first saw @shootzwego post the sandwich and soup on instagram. It looked so so good. And I had very high expectations. They were met!! I didn't know there would be around a 20min wait, so I partly wish I had ordered on-line and picked up. But there is enough stuff around to keep you amused. The staff was super friendly, (little blonde lady) and the owner (I think) was talking to a tradesman about there expansion to the store. She was just so nice! How are the staff so so nice?? The soup was divine, the sandwich was exceptionally grilled. I loved the mustard and pickles on the side. Next up I'm going to try the black Amanda drinj. And I can't wait!!! read more

Hooray for online ordering. It makes take-out so quick and painless. It also lets you see what's on the menu ahead of time! It took me a while to figure out which grilled cheese sammie to try because they all look delicious on the website (yes, they have pictures of each menu item!). I decided to try the pesto deluxe and I loved it! I would definitely order this one again, next time with a cup of tomato soup for dipping. I saw a lot of people ordering the blended juices - I may need to add that to my next order as well! read more

So, we found ourselves at Ohana Marketplace, and after wandering around for a while, hubs said he wanted something sweet. We wandered over to Honolulu Bistro, and he decided he wanted a smoothie. I did not see any prices listed on any of the boards, and I suggested he ask how much or just go with a small smoothie. Well, hubs didn't bother to ask how much, but did take my suggestion and went with the small Jungle beach. While we waited, we chatted with the vendor across the way, and watched while numbers were called before us, and then after us. There were two people making smoothies, and we figured it would be 5-10 minutes tops. After the third customer with a number that came after us grabbed their smoothie, hubs got irate and asked "how long does it take to make the smoothie?". At this point, we were waiting 25 minutes and I had to double check my watch. The lady behind the counter was apologetic, and insisted his order was up next. She then proceeded to make his smoothie. *insert face-palm* When she handed him his order, she upsized him from a small to a medium and apologized for the delay. The smoothie was ok, but tasted mainly like papaya, and not much of pineapple, passionfruit, lemon or orange flavors as expected. I appreciate that she took that extra step and upsized his drink, although I am not sure if I'd try them again for a smoothie. Perhaps a grilled sandwich, maybe. read more

Ok sandwiches. Not worth the hype. Came here yesterday for lunch because we had been hearing so much about these grilled cheese sandwiches from Honolulu bistro. I ordered the local deluxe which came with corned beef and hash browns in the sandwich along with the normal cheese stuffs. You would be hard pressed to find the speckles of corned beef they put in the sandwich. Definitely not worth the extra two dollars they charged on top of the $10 sandwich. The hash browns were not crisped up before they put them in the sandwich, so it kind of just made the sandwich soggy. Didn't really add anything but filler. My boyfriend had the deluxe pesto grilled cheese. The "deluxe" meant that they added special turkey to it. When we were eating it at first we thought they gave us the wrong sandwich because there was no turkey. We both giggled when we found the one thin slice of cold cut that they had put in his sandwich. Also ordered a side of tomato soup, which I found delicious to offset the rich sandwiches. They also only have one small griddle that can fit maybe 4 sandwiches on it, so be prepared for a WAIT when ordering. Also they didn't seem to have a clear designated area for people to wait for their sandwiches, so everyone was blocking the poor jewelry Guys kiosk next door. Overall, tasty sandwich, not worth the prices they are charging. Probably wouldn't go back, but glad I at least tried the hype. read more

Soup and sammies are a sort of a comfort food for me. And I've been dying to try out these sandwiches that I've been seeing all over IG. The golden buttered bread, grilled to perfection and all those cheese pulls I would see just sold me. I had to wait a bit as the OHM was closed periodically to concur with our state guidelines. But the next time I was in the neighborhood, I made it a must to stop by. The menu is pretty straightforward, which I like. Sometimes having only a few things to decide between makes it so much easier. Especially for a first timer. Decided to get their pastrami and tomato bisque. Besides their sandwiches, they have a good amount of juices and coffee beverages available. Because I had my Starbucks in my car, I had to pass on any but I some of their coffee shakes sound amazing! Luckily, since I went shortly after opening, there wasn't any line in front of me. However, because it's made to order, there was a 15-20 min wait. So decided to walk around the market. There was only about half the vendors there, so it was a rather quick walk around, but that's ok. I was able to check out some other eateries I've been hearing about. Came back to wait a little after 15 mins. Felt bad for the worker since she was the only one there and noticed a few people waiting in line and waiting for their order. With only so many sandwich grills, there's only so many she can make at one time. But she seemed to have things under control. My sammie came in a cute cardboard box. Like a personal Pan pizza. Hehe. And got the cutest little soup cup. I was so excited to get home and try them! My sammie was nicely filled with cuts of pastrami. Love that they use a leaner cut of meat as it wasn't drenching in oil like other places. My sandwich didn't have any cheese pull but that's ok. The mozzarella cheese was nicely melted and my bread was perfectly buttered and grilled to a golden perfection. The slices of dill pickles accompanied the saltiness well. I ended up putting some brown mustard on my sandwich since I felt it needed some kind of sauce. Russian dressing would be amazing with this also! Their tomato bisque was yummy. Totally wish that it came in a bigger bowl as it felt it was a little tease. It was also weird to see that the soup is heated up in the microwave. All in all it was a great sammie! Wife and I stopped by for our first time here and it won't be the last, the sandwich we got was The Pesto Deluxe but when we got home noticed it wasn't the deluxe. Regular pesto is Mozzarella, spinach, sun dried tomatoes and pesto the deluxe is with turkey. We paid for deluxe but wife never noticed till we was home! Wanted to try their grilled pastrami sandwich so we went for lunch. Had to wait about 15 mins for the sandwich. Once we got it, it looked good melted cheese the pastrami was hot and the bread was toasted right with their grilled onions. The taste was ok but we thought it wasn't enough pastrami in it. For the price of $12.99 plus tax was ok I guess. Next time ill try their PBJ grilled sandwich. read more

One of my favorite places to get a grilled cheese! Andrew and Kelly owners of Honolulu Bistro are so dedicated to their shop. First met the two at Ohana Hale Marketplace and watched them grow until the marketplace closed their doors to a bunch of local small businesses including Honolulu Bistro. After a few months of being temporarily closed, Honolulu Bistro has reopened at their new shop at Ala Moana Shopping Center ground floor next to Jollibees!!! Went here today for lunch. I'm not a fan of going to Ala Moana but it was my daughter's birthday and her choice of eating spot. She chose so wisely! Among our choices were the Pastrami, Chipotle Chicken, the Local, Pesto Deluxe, the Aloha, Nutella Banana, Nutella Fluff, and Tomato Bisque. We got several orders of each to share with our group. This is exactly what my son and I were looking for to fill our bellies with! We each ordered our own juices... my son had a custom juice (apple, spinach, lemon, orange); I ordered the ginger mix, and we shared a pastrami sandwich and tomato soup. Nutrient Rich Quadrant Traversing inside the Ohana Hale Marketplace maze of wonders, I usually get siphoned into a particular quadrant, but time had given me the opportunity to explore different sectors and the perimeter of the place. I was pulled to this booth when the owner "encouraged" me to sample a small cup of the coffee smothie. I enjoyed the crisp, cool, awakening taste of it. The owner made a point that the containers are made of corn (the biodegradable kind ya dig?) which is all cool and buttery because Ive done my fair share of damaging the planet. So okay, maybe the smallest steps to revert my destructive and equally abusive bad habits can slowly start to make a difference. Nutrient rich drinks that make me feel like Im giving my vessel an oil change, and the fact im doing something good for the environement, is a twin win combo. I got the watermelon mint tea the first time, I thought it was a little watery but who am I kidding, its watermelon with ice so yeahhh. Second time I ordered the mixed berry (not so nooby this time yeahhh) It was thick and sweet but not overpowering sweet. I dont like eating berries on its own because they get too thangy (yeah I made up that word lol) or the squirting in my mouth gets too cumbersome, so having it all minced and blended up into a nice liquid form was a better transition for me, pricey but good. Gotta pay good for the good stuff. I mean dontcha hate those places where u take 4 or 5 big sips and its all gone? This drink had the constitution to withstand my big slurps. There was also some doughnuts in the front, freshly made, but sorry Im not so much a donut guy. Theres also these nice looking mason jars you can get if you order the biggest size I believe. I think I also found the dramatic temporary housing solution for my avocado pits! My saplings will be jelly now lol. Word on the street, errr in the maze, is an exciting new menu is coming! Everything is good. I would recommend ordering online because they do get busy. I think there are only 3-4 workers per day. Busy days depending what your ordering may take about 15-20 minutes. If you order a large drink (not sure if applies to all drinks), but I got the coconut mocha frappe, it comes in mason jar, and every-time you bring in the mason jar it is $2 off . read more

#10 review for 2019. Flavor: OMG! The Exotic Tahitian princess coffee had just the right amount of coffee, sweetness and creaminess. I can see why they decided to serve that particular drink for the Y event. Ambiance: There were enough signage and colorful pictures of the menu to create an inviting vibe. Value: The drinks may be a little on the high side at $7 but I think it is well worth it for the flavor and quality ingredients used. The employee at the front counter with tattoos refused to hear my explanation. Her answer was completely black-and-white: either my order was "to go" OR I could eat it there. There was no willingness to listen to what I was actually saying or resolve what should have been a very simple misunderstanding. Their customer service model simply doesn't make any sense to me. Taking home food you don't finish is an ordinary part of dining at a restaurant. I wasn't asking for anything unusual or special. I simply wanted to sit down, eat the food I had purchased, and take whatever I couldn't finish with me afterward. The interaction felt unnecessarily rude and incredibly unwelcoming. I had specifically come here because I wanted to experience a well-known local Hawaiian restaurant, and instead I was made to feel like I wasn't welcome to sit down and eat the food I had just purchased--even after leaving a 20% tip. Unfortunately, I never even got the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant because of how I was treated. Very disappointing experience and definitely not the kind of hospitality I expected.

The 'uala (steamed sweet potatoes) had a natural, earthy sweetness that we all enjoyed. Lastly, the haupia (coconut pudding) was incredibly tasty, with a strong coconut flavor that made me sad when I took my last bite. Honolulu Bistro, located in Ala Moana right next to the food court, is a must-try spot. My wife and I had seen their famous Rainbow Grilled Cheese on Instagram for a while and finally decided to give it a shot. The experience was delightful! My wife opted for a smoothie and then couldn't resist the Nutella and banana sandwich, which turned out to be absolutely ono (delicious)! I ordered the Rainbow Grilled Cheese and the Tomato Bisque, and they did not disappoint at all. The seating is limited, but the island vibe and chill atmosphere make it a cozy place to enjoy a meal. Omg I walked by this gem that's directly outside the Ala Moana Food court. The good vibes written in fluorescent immediately catches your eye through the windows. As soon as you walk in you're met with Hawaiian music flooding the room and from behind the counter, bright smiles with greetings of aloaha. Needed a quick pick me up yesterday as I entered Ohana Hale to grab some lunch and saw a cute vibrant shop called Honolulu Bistro. This is a great spot to come with a group of people and share a few dishes. I love that you can reserve a table right off of the Yelp app. Happy hour is from 5pm-6:30 with food a drink specials like a $10 margarita, $5 draft Japanese beers, and ahi poke, yuzu chicken, and garlic shrimp. There's lots of fresh seafood on the menu with their dishes having Japanese influence. This is a great spot if you're looking for a pau hana spot in Waikiki!

Their sandwiches are excellent and the chips that that come along with the sandwiches make the perfect pair. I'm typically in town (thus the Uber Eats) and after a heavy workout I was craving something healthy-ish. So I made the trek to Hawaii Kai to finally visit in person. I got a little lost in the parking lot, but after a quick phone call they were kind enough to point me in the right direction (pro tip: nearest shop is Panda Express). It's down a little hallway near the pavilion. I would never know this because I rarely come to Hawaii Kai. Fast forward to ordering my food; they are fast. The assembly line is on point. And the eating area has a gorgeous view that's perfect for a lunch date or a girly fab sesh. Sandwiches as just as good as I remember and the cold brew kept me productive on my day off.

It doesnt even compare to other high end or upscale restaurants in California. The fries is crispy and the meat is very well seasoned. I have been craving it since I tried it. Mandoo --its a korean dumpling. This is handmade by the owner and unlike other dumplings, this is really packed and full. K-loco moco - by the time we got to eat this, I was already super full but had to taste it. It was very good too! I like the kimchi gravy that the owner makes himself. Overall, this place is up there. Everything here is just good. I will definitely be back when I am in Hawaii again.

I got the smash burger, and my friend got the K Loco Moco. It hit the spot. The burger was juicy, savory, and had a hint of Korean flavor. The fries had an awesome crunch to them as well. David was also kind enough to come over to where me and my friend were sitting and come chat and hang out with us. It was cool to hear his story and how he started this food truck business. My favorite thing to get from this location is their mont blanc, which is light and fluffy with small chocolate bits interspersed throughout. I've tried their latte and mochas before, which are decent but somewhat expensive. I wish they sold cake slices at this location (can be found at the Dean and Deluca in Ward), but otherwise there's a decent selection of pastries available on a daily basis. Anyway, I felt I could at least share my experience before I move. I had an amazing time each visit. The Food was ONO; I've only been there for breakfast and lunch. Every time was a hit for me. The waffles, pancakes, fried chicken, kalbi, loco mocos (etc) and my ultimate favorite (Bottomless mimosas) Til this day, I haven't had mimosas that good!! I'll be stopping by before we leave the island for good lol Service was always a pleasure, kind, patient and full of Aloha. I don't remember his name but thank you for showing people what it's like to visit our home. The location is easy to find; spacious, clean, comfortable and beautiful! It did take a while for a hostess to show up at the front though. When we got there, the line was pretty long and it didn't look that busy. I think they were probably short staffed but still kinda sucked though. I think overall, my personal experience was just okay. I'm not sure if I would try it again because it wasn't the best food wise. But it was nice to try it at least once.
