Last Christmas, my favorite niece and nephew by default surprised me with an Apple Watch. I was infatuated with watches growing up, but it was limited to Swatch, Casio and Timex. I wanted to #payitforward so I surprised them by allowing each one to select a TAG Heuer of their choice within my budget range. I ordered their watches online and now it was time to have the watch band links adjusted, as well as have my Omega watch battery changed. In the past I've gone to Ben Bridge Jeweler Timework at Ala Moana Center for these services, but I took the kids on a Monday afternoon. Who would have known that on Mondays, the specialists at both Ben Bridge stores at Ala Moana Center have the day off? We then went to Omega Boutique also in Ala Moana, but they only will touch Omega watches and not my TAGs. The Omega staff suggested I go to Macy's but because these watches cost pretty pennies, I wanted a reputable business to perform these transactions. I asked fellow Elite Lyla D. and her recommendation: Honolulu Time Company (HTC). Located in the Hawaiian Life Building on the corner of Piikoi St and Kapiolani Blvd, HTC is one of the tenants that shares the parking lot with other businesses such as Hawaii National Bank, International Mid Pac College and Envy Hair Salon. They are a family business that has been servicing Honolulu since the late 70's specializing in vintage and contemporary watches. Lyla is a good friend, so I trust her and decided to try here instead after multiple visits to Ben Bridge. The attitude and service at Ben Bridge were so disappointing that a change was needed. Prior to coming here, I called in advance and was advised no appointment was needed and was quoted the price for watch band adjustment and battery change. I picked up the kiddos and brought our watches. We were advised they needed about 1 hour to service our 5 watches, so I dragged the kiddos to a grab a drink in Kaimuki to kill time. We came back shortly after the quoted hour and the watches were ready. Everything fit well with the exception for one of my watches as it was too snug, so the jeweler added back on another link. When it was time to pay, the amount was higher than what was quoted over the phone. On the phone, the female staff had an accent which was difficult to understand, but I repeated her quotations and knew what to expect. I looked at both kiddos who were so happy with their new watches, so I chose not to make a scene and just paid the bill of $146.55. Overall, I have mixed feelings with HTC as they indeed perform the watch bank link adjustments and replaced my watch battery but was charged higher than what was quoted. Not sure what I'll do the next time I need to have my higher end watches serviced. I brought my grandpa's old pocket watch to see if it could be fixed. It was an old wind-up pocket watch that stopped working. Upon inspection, a team member recommended not to repair the pocket watch because of its condition and age. He said he could get it going again, but it would likely stop working very soon. This watch has great sentimental value to me, and even upon his honest recommendation, I opted to get the pocket watch fixed. The service fee was reasonable, and I appreciated his honest opinion. The pocket watch worked after being fixed, but as he said, slowly stopped working a couple of months later, which was expected. Fact: I haven't wear any wrist watch for more than 3 months now. It broke when we were having a good vacation in Boracay Island in Philippines! Went to my tailor hoping they could fix my car's seat cover. Though I got a negative answer I got enlightenment for myself as I saw this shop downstairs from my tailor's stall. Peep in, trying to inquire and boom, gotta be quick on coming back so that I can fix my old watch which my friend gave to me from before. A woman came in to help and accommodate me. She's mundane enough and I am so grateful for her help. Anyway, she took my watch and meticulously checking the issue. She even asked me if I would like to get a new battery for it. My daily wear 90's rolex submariner suddenly had an issue one day in which it wouldn't wind. I happened to be on Oahu for work and took it into Honolulu Time Co and they were able to tell me exactly what was wrong with it, how to fix it, and cost... all within 10mins. Had the winding mechanism replaced and complete service with them, and it only took 2 weeks! A very reasonable price at that. I went into the shop with some mixed impressions based on some feedback others in the watch community gave prior to visiting. To be sure, HTC has a great, curated selection of pre-owned pieces but their comms and follow-up after the visit was pretty lackluster (maybe piss poor?) and even that is being generous. Sent three emails by way of follow up and only one received a direct, very terse response. We've worked with countless grey/pre owned dealers and everyone has his or her own style but HTC just seemed like they couldn't care less to get back to us. (Living with Covid Series) As a Gen-Xer, I'm not a digital native. I remember and have used rotary telephones, pagers, vinyl records, baud modems, film cameras, enlargers, and dark rooms. So its no surprise to hear that I still use a watch, and not just rely on a cell phone. It's not just an affection, I work in an office where we have to leave our cell phones outside in the hallway. So one of my annual rituals is to take my watches to have my batteries replaced. Over the years, I've found the Honolulu Time Company to be the best outfit to do so- in both cost and timely service. To deal with these Covid times: staff is masked and gloved; masks for customers are required; and a maximum of 3 customers in the store at a time. As with the rest of the establishments on 1311 Kapiolani Boulevard, parking for customers is a snap! After dropping off the watch, was told it would take about 30 minutes to replace the battery. So I walked around to find out how some favorite establishments were holding up. About 20 minutes later, made my way back to HTC. The watch was ready, and I went on my merry way! I use my watch daily. I like the face of a real watch, not a computer. I took my 25+ y/o Omega to the Omega Boutique store at Ala Moana to change the battery b/c I thought that was what was need. The gentleman there said it might need more and quoted me +$600 and a few months if it needed a complete overhaul. Ok, check the battery, take the 4 - 5 days, but no overhaul w/o calling me first. Being prepared to leave my Omega for a few days, I also had my husband's 2 dead RADO watches and my dead Seiko with me. I figured that if I needed to (and as I found out I did need to.), I would resize his watches so that they are not just sitting on his dresser. That's where they've been since he switched to the Apple watch. That's $$$$ to me. Honolulu Time was where he originally bought the Rados nearly 20 years ago so that's where we went. The owner and his children run the business now. My husband and he recognized each other too. Because one of the watches has a ceramic band he needed extra time to work on it so I returned the next day for the lot. Alas, when I put the ceramic one on it was too snug. I left it, went to my meeting and returned a few hours later. It fit perfectly and now I am its proud owner. Well, not exactly. I am the owner of 2 working Rado watches and a working Seiko. Had my fiancé's grandmothers watch fixed and she absolutely loved it. It was a Timex watch that her tutu got for her retirement from Young Laundry over 70 years ago. I change all my watch batteries myself and my ESQ by Movado watch wasn't running after I changed the battery. I explained that to the lady and she said they couldn't fix it (without even looking at it) and I should send it to ESQ or Movado to repair it. So, I went to Macy's & the kind gentleman there said he would look at it & come back in 10 minutes. So, when I came back he had fixed it! He said it was just the tiny metal arm over the battery that was up when it should have been down for the positive/negative to be connected. A simple fix, and he didn't even charge me! I came in to adjust my watch band. The repair took less than 15 minutes and did not cost me an arm-and-leg.

My Baby G just went blank and I was pretty sure it was a battery problem. I called around several watch repair establishments but was told .... 1. Have to leave the watch for a couple of days 2. They may not have the exact battery I needed but I would have to leave the watch for them to check it out 3. They do NOT re-pressurize the watch to factory standards 4. ETC - you get the point This particular watch is very special to me cuz it went up to Mount Fuji and was part of an amazing trip with great friends. So getting it repaired was important to me At this place, they only needed about 30-60 minutes. Watch is perfect AND re-pressurized. Definitely, the place to go. read more

1 1/2 Stars for overall experience. I suggest you READ if you want to know exactly what type of service you will receive. I came in asking how much they would charge to change a strap of my watch. The younger guy (late 20s - 30s) told me "a couple bucks". Could not even give me a good range. After my strap came in the mail, I called the store again, this time the older man with a heavy Japanese accent English answered and quoted me that it would be free if it is simple. The strap change on my watch is very very simple. I just don't have the spring bar tool to do the work myself. It would be a 5 minute job. Max. I came in with my new strap and the NEW set of bars that the straps came with. Obviously, I want the new bars to be used while replacing my straps. After the job was done, they just returned my watch. I asked for the old straps (because this watch has a special meaning for me) but they brought the strap WITHOUT the other set of bars. I asked for the other set of bars, ASSUMING that the new one was put in with the new strap. Well, I guess my assumption was wrong because they just recycled my old bars and brought out the new bars. I guess they intended to just recycle my old bars and keep the new bars for spare parts for themselves. Sketchy. Regardless, I came out of the store after paying $5 which was NOT what the older man quoted me minutes before I entered the store. ***** Next day, I wear my watch for the first time with the new straps and within an hour the strap pops lose and my watch drops. Luckily I was indoors and it fell on carpet so no outer damage was done. This was a result of them recycling my old bars EVEN WHEN I gave them the new bars and trying to keep the new set for themselves. So I waste my time driving there again to get my watch strap redone. I tell the lady in the front (probably Vietnamese due to the heavy accent also) specifically what happened and instructed her to use the NEW pins this time. I marked the new pins with a sharpie so I know they have to give me the set of bars WITHOUT the mark (as the marked new ones would be inserted in the strap). ~10 mins later she brings out the watch. Why was I not surprised that they didn't listen again and I was given back my sharpie MARKED NEW bars? (Meaning they just popped my watch in again with the old bars.) +++++++++++ Not only that, during my first repair visit, after the repair I noticed a stab like scratch mark on the brand new strap (metal part). It had a plastic seal like how all new things come in. I peeled the plastic to see if the damage was deep enough to scratch the strap. Yep. Deep enough. After this I examined my watch it had a few other scratch and dings that weren't there before. I know EXACTLY what my watch and strap was like before I gave it to them because I was carefully examining them before I took it to them. So don't say it was there since before. CONCLUSION: If my strap pops open again because they yet again used the old strap bars, and my watch falls in an unlucky place, Honolulu Time Co. has to compensate for this very poor incompetent service. And trying to steal my new set of bars into their "spare parts" box. read more

About 2 weeks ago, my watch suddenly stopped. But, why? I had just gotten the battery replaced in late January. I've had my watch for over 20 years and this was the first time it has ever just stopped. As it turned out, Honolulu Time Co. was able to quickly diagnose the problem...the movement mechanism needed to be overhauled. The clerk gave me a price quote of about $200 and I would have to leave my watch for about 2 weeks. After surrendering my watch, I browsed their displays...yes, I was drawn to the glittering new watches by Rado, Omega, Tag Heuer but settled on the fact that it would be less expensive to just have the work done than to spend thousands more for a new watch. I got a call yesterday informing me that watch repair was complete and ready for pick up. Yay! I felt like a child getting my favorite toy or security blanket back as I slipped my watch back onto my bare wrist. I have complete trust and confidence with Honolulu Time Co. I've had great experiences here, including buying a used Rolex here and selling it back about 2 years later because it was collecting dust. This is a great place to purchase genuine designer watches at fair prices. If you want a specific watch model, talk to the owner and he can source things for you. If you're looking to sell a used watch here, they will definitely give you a fair price. When I sold my watch back to them it was put on consignment. It took about 6 months to finally sell, but he was able to get the price that we agreed to sell it for--so it was worth the wait. They also offer watch repair here as well. I brought in my automatic watch here that's 11 years old and had never been serviced and wasn't telling time correctly (it would just stop randomly and when it WAS running the time would slowly be off by 2-3 minutes even when it was set to the correct time). They offered a complete overhaul for $345. Very reasonable price. It was done in two weeks. The watch brand that I bought the watch from had quoted me a MINIMUM of $500 + they would have to mail the watch to New York for over 4-6 weeks minimum for repair/service. They also sell beautiful jewelry here. Very nice shop with nice owners. read more

I brought in an old pocket watch whose hands kept coming off. Twice they put the hands back on and twice they came off, within a day. Obviously there is something wrong with the hands and no one in the store realized it. I ended up taking it to another store and they examined it carefully and knew right away that it needed to be fixed not just put back on. I also brought in a citizen watch that was dead and assumed the battery needed to be replaced. They replaced it and charged me for it, but when I took it home it wasn't working...I took it somewhere else and was then told I needed a new capacitor not a battery. But why did no one at this store bother to point that out to me? I called to tell them I was unhappy with the service and the person I spoke to was not very apologetic.
