A bakery is exactly what Kam Shopping Center lacked, so it's nice for Honu Bakery to fill the void! If you're familiar with Boulangerie Bakery, Honu is basically its sister. The cute cakes are not only captivating, but also really tasty. It's "Asian" style, so while it looks heavy and sweet it's actually quite light and the texture is soft and bouncy. I ended up choosing a chocolate croissant, green tea cheesecake, soufflé cheesecake and their famous turtle bread, The turtle bread was okay. There is cream cheese in the middle and almond slivers on the top. The soufflé cheesecake is pretty but it was dry. I was not a fan of the green tea cheesecake. It was the green matcha powder on top of the cheesecake and not green tea infused into the cake. The chocolate croissant was delicious. It was flaky, decently sized but minimal chocolate inside. Price: The prices are average compared to similar bakeries around Oahu. Ambiance: The bakery is new so it feels clean and it's nicely decorated with a turtle wall art. Honu Bakery is the new Boulangerie bakery located in Kam shopping center. This is their second location. I knew about it about 3 months back. Honestly, I was hesitant because of the location and I haven't been to kam shopping center in 20 years even though this is a small island. Anyhow, parking was very convenient. Kam shopping center has plenty parking. I didn't realize so many eateries exist there too! Going back to Honu bakery. This location is about 3 or 4 times bigger than King street. They have sitting area so you can hangout. Atmosphere is so much cheerful and friendlier than other location. It must be the vibrant young workers who work together as a team and helping each other as they were ringing me up and boxing my sweet goods. I bought some chocolate rolls which are like castella rolls and buns with cream cheese. I always appreciate attentiveness and efficient service. I'm a baker but I can't bake a decent cupcake to save my life! This is why I'm such a cupcake chronic that I'd scour the earth for a good cupcake. First of all I have frequented their Boulangerie Bakery ( OG location on King) for many years. So much that they know me by name. The famous Turtle Bread with its soft sweet pull apart goodness is always in season and a crowd pleaser. However, I literally live 3 blocks away from there Kalihi location but never bought a damn thing there till now. So... let's talk cupcakes. When prices for tiny littel cupcakes went from $3 to $4 to now $5 dollars I will not spend that money unless the cupcake is something short of orgasmic. Don't give me box cake and frosting from a tub, I BETTER taste that "from scratch" goodness or it won't be pretty. However, Honu Bakery cupcakes are about 1/4 larger then the usual sizes of cupcakes and they heap on the frosting. The frosting is not too sweet and it taste like a mixture of heavy whipped cream and butter to form a somewhat dense topping. They don't have a variety of original flavors but most of the time I'm such a vanilla, chocolate, red velvet purists that doesn't seem to bother me. Each of these well decorate cuties are about $3.50 ish and for me it's worth it. I can demolish 2 of them on my own. Please don't judge me! I did a walk-in to Honu Bakery and they are following excellent procedures during this pandemic by allowing 4 customers in at a time. The cheesecakes I picked out were beautiful and delicious. Their cream puffs are my favorite, but more filling would be appreciated! The staff of two young ladies were kind and patient with their customers. One thing I also wanted to add to my experience is that my vanilla roll cake was wrapped in plastic before going into a box and after peeling off the plastic from the cake, the outside layer of the cake also peeled away with it. Love the honu bread! Honu bread is made up of a bunch of sweet bread rolls in the shape of a honu, filled with a light buttercream, raisins, and chestnuts, and topped with sliced almonds. They only allow 5 people in at a time so it's very COVID-conscious. Although they items were very cute, the taste was not anything mind-blowing. I finally decided to go here today, to grab an afternoon coffee (and got tempted into dessert). I'm not a huge sweets fan, and rarely frequent sit-down bakeries. But, looking for some time alone to chill, this was great. If you have a sweet tooth, there is a pretty good selection of very decorative (and hopefully equally delicious) cakes, some of which you can order by slice, otherwise purchasing the whole for special occasions. Right now there is an Easter theme going on so I imagine they change things up with each holiday. There is also the standard grab a tray and set of tongs to pick up your own baked goods along the open shelf, including some savory choices (e.g. ham in a bun). It has the regular coffee shop selection of hot and cold beverages, as well as cookies, cupcakes, other pastries, even boba teas and shave ice. When I arrived it was empty, but there are ample tables and seating for a good crowd. The music was a bit loud for my taste, but it didn't interrupt my ability to focus on reading and relaxing. Service wasn't extraordinary, but people were doing their job. Since this place is part of Kam Shopping Centre, parking is available in the shared lot, though often crowded and requires a bit of driving around before you find a convenient spot. Located right in my hometown kalihi, at The infamous Kamehameha shopping center lies a nice spot for some sweet treats. But today, I was so pissed because I ordered 2 Christmas cakes to be picked up @11 am. I called and let them know that I'll be running late and they assured me the cakes are ready. I always past by this place when I'm at Kamehameha Shopping Center and I always wanted to try the baked goods here. I decided to try their Chocolate Cake slice($3.99). The price is the average price for a bakery, neither above or below market price. The cake wasn't rich like the cakes you find in American Bakeries, it's more of an Asian style cake, fluffy and not too heavy or rich. The cake also wasn't super sweet like American cakes. The cake coating was hard-shell chocolate surrounding the sides and top of the cake with a thin light Asian style whipped cream instead of a rich, heavy, chocolate icing you find in a lot of chocolate cakes. This is a preference thing, so I won't deduct any point fo this. The cake also layered too and in between the layers were light chocolate whipped cream that wasn't too sweet and compliment the cake really well. The only complaints I have with this cake is that 1) it was a little grainy and 2) it was also a little soggy (there is a difference between moist and soggy). The atmosphere was nice, it wasn't loud and the sitting area didn't feel compact. The store was also clean. We got the same cake for Father's Day; picked it up on Saturday since they closed on Sunday. We refrigerated right away when we got home and took it out the next day for Father's Day. When we cut it up, saw something black. We cut a few more slices and saw the same black color on the strawberries. We pulled them out of the cake slices, and they turned out to be mold!!
