It's been many years since coming to this shopping center and didn't realize how absolutely KAOTIC the parking situation is and driving to this shopping center was traffic galore. I told myself to just do your business and leave this crazy busy shopping center ASAP!. While walking to my car (from doing business here), I noticed Honu Bakery. Despite wanting to leave here ASAP, I remember seeing the Yelp photos and great reviews, so I had to stop in. immediately upon entering, I received a friendly greeting and impressed with how clean and organized this bakery is. There was a showcase with beautiful decorated cupcakes, cakes, eclairs etc. and to your right, is a shelf filled with different pastries and breads to help yourself in selecting. Very cute bakery located in Kam Shopping Center. Parking is plentiful since it's located in the mall. They offer a variety of cakes, I recently ordered a strawberry shortcake from them for a birthday. I was able to call the day before for their 7" size cake. They asked for me to pay beforehand over the phone, which was no problem. Pick up was easy. The design of the cake was clean and elegant. I liked the simple texture to the frosting and fresh strawberry halves used to decorate it. They placed it in a sturdy box with a see through cover. They also offered free candles, 10 total, and a plastic serving knife. As for the taste of the cake, it was good, although not the best strawberry shortcake I've ever had. The frosting was light and not too sweet, kind of reminded of cool whip. The actual cake was not dense enough for me to stand up to all of the frosting. Very fluffy and fresh cakes! Like eating air. The presentation is top notch, high quality and the price points are fair for what you get, IMO. The whipped cream icing isn't overly sweet and it doesn't make your mouth feel greasy like some whipped creams tend to. The cake is soo fluffy and soft, also not overly sweet. The fruit are also fresh and glazed in a sweet preserving sauce. There's a bunch of flavors and designs and prices, so it's easy to walk in and get something nice at the last minute. Staff are helpful. I had to run to longs and they held my cake and goodies in the fridge until I got back. Free candles come with the cake!! And a giant plastic cake knife. Yay- one stop shop... minus a lei I guess. Parking is always hard at Kam but there's usually a spot to squeeze into. It's called turtle bread because the bunch of sweet buns next to each other looks like the turtle's shell. The drinks is a no go for me. I tried the taro milk tea. It's pure powder and 2% milk. You would think I learned my lesson. I didn't. Got a coconut milk tea. It's 2% milk & coconut milk. Like what? Chocolate Cream puff - the filling on the inside was minimal. Otherwise it tastes good. Cakes - I usually get the cakes to celebrate someone's birthday. It's not super sweet. I like the strawberry cakes the best! Sometimes the strawberry slices are firm because they freeze their fruits. Its a fancy European/Japanese bakery using some local ingredients. Its in the Kamehameha shopping center in Kalihi. There is a small sitting area deep inside. Loved the varieties and types of baked goodies with special ingredients and nuts. No sandwiches or sliced breads, though. Maybe I missed it. Coffee and tea. The taro donut is a taro pudding filled round of happiness. The maple-bacon donut had a dissappearing consistency like another big donut company that rhymes with dipsy dream. So I yelped and found this place located in Kalihi shopping center. I believe they opened at 7am on a Monday morning so it was perfect timing. Many cakes on display but this one was the one! Nice selection of baked goods here. They have really cute cakes and I just noticed today that they also serve slushes. One day I might try their lychee slush. They also had mango slush. Sorry, there are more flavors but I didn't catch all of them. Today I picked a cream cheese triangle and a custard bun. The bakery that makes the famous Turtle Bread has finally opened up a large location. How lucky of Kamehameha Shopping Center in Kalihi to house this new bakery! I was really impressed when I first visited Honu Bakery because of the nice, clean, well-decorated, well-lit interior and the variety of baked goods available. Their bottom shelves are lined with bags of Turtle Bread, which is the soft bread the size of the standard dinner roll filled with a light cream. I guess they're called "Turtle Bread" because they look like a bag full of turtle shells. In addition to their ready-made Turtle Bread, they have multiple shelves lined with pastries that you can choose yourself. They vary from Castella to cookies, rolls and Belgian waffles. In their refrigerated cases, they have the cutest cupcakes, cakes and cheesecake. All of them are elaborately decorated with panda heads, fruit and Hello Kitty heads. In addition to all of that yumminess, they serve Bubbies mochi ice cream and have a large drink menu that consists of coffee, tea, and milk tea. Their prices aren't the lowest but reasonably so with all of the work they put into their great tasting and beautifully decorated baked goods. My only gripe is that they're pretty skimpy on the milk tea. I've had both the small and large sized milk tea and both cups are practically the same size; the large pretty much has a couple of ounces over the small. Also, the tea is never filled to the brim. What's up with that?! Otherwise, Honu Bakery is awesome, has a lot to offer, their customer service is good and they have a pretty large seating area in the bakery for patrons. read more

Honu Bakery, Sister to Boulangerie Bakery on King Street NEW bake shop in Kamehameha Shopping Center. CLEAN, BRIGHT, SPACIOUS, I've had the King Street pastries so I know they are delicious. They are famous for what is known as "Turtle Bread". Bread filled with butter and raisins and a sweet white bean then covered with a light butter topping. They have many other items to select from. Please know they are not the cheapest in town but their delicacies stand up to its price. 5th Star given to the owner Mr. Yang (I think that's his name) who is very polite and humble toward all of his new patrons. It was the last day of the Starbucks promotion, so I used my Yelp app and went to the nearest Starbucks at the Kamehameha Shopping Center. I rarely go to this area because the parking seems so crowded. So, I wasn't surprised that I had to circle the lot in search of a parking space. As I made my way around the shops, I saw the sign for Honu Bakery. Where did I hear of that name before? I kept pondering as I ordered my drink at Starbucks. I had never ventured into either bakeries before because I know I'll get into trouble! This bigger location is so new, bright, and clean! The modern environment makes everything look better! Just take a tray and a pair of tongs and help yourself to the wrapped and unwrapped pastries. Bring your selections to the cash register, and the friendly employees will wrap up your goodies and total up the bill. Easy! Now that this bakery found me, I can conveniently return when I need a Baskin-Robbins fix or have an errand to run at Longs. The free, covered parking is a definite bonus to this location! Cute little bakery tucked away in Kam Shopping Center near Fun Factory. They have a nice assortment of breads, pastries, cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. As this was my first visit, I had no idea what to try since everything was calling out my name, so I asked the cashier what their signature item was, and she pointed at the "turtle bread" behind me. It's $8.50, but it's totally worth it. Imagine soft, melt in your mouth sweet bread filled with buttercream, raisins, and chestnuts. I thought the bread was OK, but the hubby loved it and told me "it's the best thing you've ever brought home". I wasn't sure whether to take that as a compliment or insult, but it's definitely a compliment to Honu Bakery! Easy enough parking when not peak hours. Was able to park right by the bakery this time. Had a little time to kill. Decided to chill here for some sweet eats. Not everything was out yet. What makes this bakery stand out from some of the others are the cute cupcakes and other items they do as animals. They do a nice kitty cat, round cake that could pass off as Hello Kitty. Too sweet for even me but went down well with our somewhat bitter, hot latte. You could taste the bacon bits. It actually was a great contrast in taste, salty and sweet. I may get this again but it would have to be shared. That's way too much sweetness for me. Ham Bun $2.50 Didn't have breakfast and wanted something close to that. The ham bun included onions. I do like them in there. I was able to get this heated up. Nothing really special about this. It's the same everywhere else. Strawberry Shortcake $3.99 Well made and put together. Strawberry was nice, firm, a little sour but that's understandable as they are going out of season. Delicious to eat. Souffle Cheesecake $3.50 Loved the presentation of this piece. Other than that it's like eating fruits with cake and some sweetness. Yet, it really was good. Meringue Pie $1.69 This I could go for and come back for. Very well done putting everything together with a nice taste. Customer service was exceptionally well. It's rare to find quality businesses opening up in Kam Shopping Center where businesses are constantly rotating in and out. I was pleased to see Honu bakery open this week in the middle stretch between Times and Longs. The interior is really nice and comfortable. It would make for a great place to come and get some reading done. The owner here is very friendly and welcoming as well. They offer a large variety of baked goods along with a full coffee bar, shave ice, bubbies ice cream and plenty of tea options. Overall, this might be one of the best bakery/cafes on the island, and it is certainly the best in Kalhi. I'll definitely be returning here. read more

I usually stop by this bakery to pick up the mocha roll cake for my family. Although it's very good, it has pricey. I think the cake is now up to $18 a roll. The bakery has a good assortment of pastries which are high quality. The place is clean, and they seem to inspect the pastry platters after customers leave. I went to buy a 7" strawberry shortcake for my moms birthday today September 3rd, and I got charged an additional $10 for the strawberries. What kinda business are you running for charging extra $10 for strawberries when it's already a strawberry shortcake. It's not like I asked for extra strawberries. I was appalled by the additional charge for the strawberries. I mentioned to the employee that it's misleading for the customers that they do not have price points for the base price for their cakes as well as additional $10 for strawberries. I truly enjoyed the green tea cheesecake. It was not what I expected. I thought it would be a cheesecake but it was more of a cake with some cheesecake flavor. The tiramisu was delicious too. it was kind of pricey so I don't think I could eat it all the time. The bakery is located in the kam shopping center next to the fun factory. Go check it out.
