What a disappointment. Anxious to unwrap our take out order, I first opened the beef rib. Instead of a thick slab of soft moist meat , a thin layer of crunchy layer appeared resembling beef jerky, UNEDIBLE.This rib should have been trashed in the kitchen. My order of burnt ends turned out to pork belly cubes swimming in what resembled an overly sweet mustard sauce. Sides resembled a dessert not a dish to be enjoyed with a savory entre. I wish we had a better experience, I really do. This place was hyped up to us so much so to be fair our expectations were very high. We decided to order take out and eat in our car due to the restaurant being at capacity and a hungry 2 year old. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, poutine, blackened chicken Caesar, pork ribs, jalapeño cheddar sausage, brisket, beans, Cole slaw and Mac and cheese. The fried green tomatoes were good, though nothing to write home about. The poutine needed more cheese, and unfortunately was fairly soggy (we did not wait to eat it, it was fresh). The Caesar was probably the best thing we had, though the "blackened chicken" was poorly seared chicken thigh with very little seasoning. As for the main event I was shocked to see that we were giving no barbecue sauce. I'm not sure if this is commonplace for this establishment or just an oversight. The brisket lacked bark and salt, the ribs were good, yet needed sauce, and the sausage was by far the shining star. The sides are where they fell very short. The Mac and cheese was gritty and underseasoned, the coleslaw was undwrseasoned and loaded with poorly julienned apple clumps. The beans were the epic loser of the night. It tasted as so someone poured a bottle of mrs. Butterworth's pancake syrup over undercooked beans in a rush and served it. Maybe that's not how they are usually made, I hope. Overall for the price paid and the hype given to the restaurant I expected way more. There was a sloppiness to the whole experience and I probably wouldn't return during Covid times, maybe give it a chance again next year. read more

Saw a show about this place recently on FTV and decided to drive over from NY to check it out on 4th of July, thought for sure they'd be open sooner than normal for a Holiday but nope, opened right at 4pm. There was going to be about a 45 minute to an hour wait for a table since they had just opened and seated everyone. We decided to try the bar and seating was available there. Staff was very friendly and prompt. Being from Texas, good BBQ is hard to find up in this area but Hoodoo is legit. We wanted to try a bit of everything but were told they were out of pork ribs(how do you run out when you just opened AND it's a Holiday?) We settled for the brisket, pulled pork, turkey and Beef Rib(Jesus, this thing was Huge!), along with mac n cheese, coleslaw and potato salad,cornbread. All the sides were great, really wished I had gotten the beans and collards. The meats were good as well and had great smokey taste, beef rib was a bit much, plenty of leftovers to take back home. We topped it off with the S'mores ice cream pie and it was excellent also. If you're in the mood for Q, Hoodoo won't let you down. The young lady manning the bar did an excellent job with service/refills as the bar was packed. The only con was that we were not told that spareribs were available and would've gotten them instead of the beef rib. A return trip is definitely in the future for Hoodoo, especially when Jr. makes another trip up here from Texas. read more

Writing this review after just eating some delicious leftovers from last nights takeout. My group of 5 arrived at Hoodoo Brown's on Saturday night at 7 PM. We were told that we had a 2 hour wait but we could order takeout and it would be ready in 20 minutes. We placed our order and hung out in the casual fun atmosphere. Our takeout ($238 worth) was enough to feed a small army. We had: 2 cans of bacon - tasty, Smokey but not crisp. Brisket Nachos - interesting and fun. Beef Ribs- a bit too fatty, but seasoned perfectly. Brisket - tender, flavorful and delicious. Collard greens- has brisket mixed in and was good. Vinegar slaw - a nice tangy compliment to the meats. Sausages - awesome smoky flavor! I am definitely going back and want to eat inside with friends and family. This is a great place to order a big variety and share with a group. read more

On a recommendation from the TV show Man, Fire Food we decided to try this place out. Having traveled quite a bit in Texas and being a brisket lover I just had to try it. Started off with some wings cause when don't you start with wings. The wings are plump and juicy...smoked to perfection then crisped off for the finish. My mind was blown with the Yukon gold sauce...combination of hot sauce and a yellow mustard concoction that is awesome. Next up was the Texas Trinity platter. 1lb of brisket, sausage links, full rack of pork ribs and two massive pieces of cornbread...you gonna eat your cornbread?? I always ask for the fatty brisket from the point. Tons of flavor and super juicy. Not over powered with complicated ribs but just like Texas. A nice even blend of S&P and I think I reserved some garlic. The smoke ring, beefy flavor brought me right back to Texas. I may be a little biased here but I could eat brisket every day. The ribs were just about fall off the bone but still competition worthy. Great smoke flavor and a beautiful color to them. One bite and I was sold. I have to put these ribs in the top 3 in the northeast. The two sausage links were smoked to perfection and had great flavor and heat in the jalapeño cheese. Overall the food was great. The service was very good. Because of the "pandemic" and state restrictions the seat capacity is capped at about half so that leads to long lines but they do have a take out area that was hopping. I've been hearing about this place a few years now and just finally made the trip. My brothers and I made an early dinner stop on a weekend so while it was busy it wasn't crazy. My only regret is that I didn't spend the rest of the day fasting so I could have eaten more! Started with lemon pepper wings that were meaty and full of flavor (I'm very picky about wings but my brother vouched for them)! Both my brothers got the prime rib special which was awesome. I got 1/2 lb brisket and a smoked sausage. Great flavor on both these items, I like my brisket a little leaner but that's a personal preference I'd say. Along with my meat I got beans and collard greens. Beans were awesome and smokey. The greens are my real test of a bbq place criteria 1: Did you wash them properly? Great place here. Everything we ordered was great. The meats were cooked just right and had a real nice flavor. The corn bread is a perfect combination of grainy and sweet as corn bread was meant to be. The mac n cheese was good but I'm not a fan of peppers in my mac. I'd love to give the "go to" items but to be honest I loved everything. You can't go wrong with anything. And if course you absolutely have to eat the cracklin. OMG. I also loved the banana pudding. Its actually made with real banana. Yummy. My only complaint would be with the waitstaff. Dont get me wrong, they we are very nice and accommodating. Maybe it's a geographic thing. Being used to New York restaurants, I thought the service was very slow. Could have been a bad day or maybe they're just more relaxed up there. But it was well worth it. This place has been on my list for months now. I hit a few snags in coming here the first few times but I finally made it today. This place is right off a main road and is very easy to find. Parking can be difficult at peak times but be patient, you'll eventually get a spot in their parking lot. The menu was great but I do wish they offered a smaller sampler platter, but beggars can't be choosers. I had a half rack of ribs and a side of the pit beans. The portions are MASSIVE. I generally have a healthy appetite but I was only able to eat three ribs before retiring. I did chow down all of the beans and all the complimentary pickles. Dare I say these were the best ribs I ever had? I lived in Houston 26 weeks a year for the better part of my adult life, but I never enjoyed the ribs down there as much as what I had at hoo doo brown. These guys do a great job making their one bbq sauce. I really hope I could return in the future with some friends so I could try some more of the items. Well, it's official, I finally found brisket that I can compare to Austin. Okay, I know what you are thinking, but let me finish. My experience with brisket in Austin was, exceptional. It was the stuff of legend. I haven't (really) eaten barbecue since I found Austin barbecue, because I knew it would do it no justice. But, I still tried to see what was out there. The whispers kept coming about this place in Ridgefield, and I kept holding out, claiming that it couldn't be possible to compare. Then I went, several months ago with friends, and we ate ourselves into a coma. We had food for 10 people, split between 3 of us, and it was pig, beef, and chicken heaven. It was meat sweats and upset tummy for the entire night--but good lord, was it worth it. We enjoyed a bit of everything, to taste-test the menu, from sausage and pulled pork, to ribs, mac and cheese, and cornbread. We even tried their french fries. But, the only entertainer worth speaking about was Sir Brisket. Now, when I say this could compare to Austin's brisket, I would caveat that with the fact that until I go back to Austin, nothing will ever exceed their brisket. However, this was so damn close, I have had it multiple times, even once a month since then. Now that COVID is upon us, it's been a treat to bring as take-out, and build a meal around it by heating it up (which tastes almost as good as fresh). It's been a party in my mouth. It's been the stuff of dreams and craving. I enjoy this brisket so much, with its black pepper crust, amazing smoke ring, and juicy fat, that I have started delivering it to friends as gifts, like a little brisket Santa Claus (give me brisket any day of the week over material possessions). The sweet, tangy barbecue sauce elevates the flavors of the brisket, and the mouthful of meat and fat, melt in a symphony of flavor. Don't tell your friends about this because the wait is already too long. Found Hoodoo late last night, on the recommendation of a friend. Wow! This place knows its BBQ! Unbelievable brisket - literally breaks apart as you try to pick it up. So so tender and perfectly juicy and flavorful. We also had the beef ribs. For a second thought I was Fred Flintstone and this was from a brontosaurus. HUGE, on-the-bone set of ribs, and the charcoaled outside combined with the succulent, hot meat inside was the tastiest I've ever had in a beef rib. Updating review. Hoodoo kicks serious ass now. They have for the last year or more. Their product is constantly evolving, as is their process for meal prep. That, and they don't ignore the sides. Potatoes, deviled eggs, you name it, it all rocks. I just burnt ends were available more often, but maybe they are now. Their BBQ class was also a blast, and a great excuse to drink a beer at 8 o'clock in the morning with fellow aspiring gourmet carnivores. Keep it up, Hoodoo. One thing I just say about hoodoo browns is that their food is pretty incredible. The brisket, the ribs, and the sausage are all on point. Even their sides are pretty awesome, from cornbread to Mac and cheese. My issue with this restaurant is not the food- it's the wait. We have come here two times and the wait is the most maddening experience. The establishment itself isn't very big and the seating is so cramped and close together that it makes eating pretty uncomfortable. You can choose to wait in a packed out doorway for hours with other angry people or you can wait outside in your car and risk having your name called and losing your seat to someone else. Waiting in the bar area is also not an option because it is so cramped you cannot breathe. The parking lot is horrendous as well. They don't allow you to make reservations with a small party so the wait is inevitable. I really did enjoy their food and I do recommend it if you enjoy BBQ but if you're in a rush or as in patient as i am and hate crowds then maybe this place is not for you. read more

The only downside to this place is it's so popular so there most likely is a wait and they run out of a lot of stuff but that is a good problem to have. Absolutely worth the drive from southington to Brookfield. We started off with 6 citrus bourbon teriyaki wings, amazing. The bleu cheese was house made and good enough to drink. I had the brisket sandwich with onions and bleu cheese slaw. The meat melted in my mouth and the bun was toasted perfectly. The bleu cheese slaw gave a perfect crunch and texture to the sandwich and the onions were fresh. The fries were ok but lacked seasoning and were mushy. Round 1: Drinks and Apps... We ordered the FroNt Porch Iced tea and the huckleberry lemonade ... wow and wow. The flavors on these drinks were great and they pack a punch! We ordered the BBQ wings.... guys not even gonna lie. Everything about these wings were incredible. Size of the wings were just right - the texture was perfect. Crispy outside and juicy moist inside... a lot of guys mess up wings because they get charred and then under cook the inside. These guys know what they're doing. The BBQ sauce was ON POINT. Very savory. We decided to order the brisket sandwich, pulled pork and 2 sides. Mac and cheese and the pit beans. Brisket - brisket can be luck of the draw a lot of the times. Sometimes you get a bangin plate with nothing but great cuts - but most of the time you get a mixed bag. This brisket was so full of flavor. The fatty pieces and lean pieces were equally delicious. Falls apart in your mouth. We mixed the 2 on table sauces into a sweet and savory concoction. Amazing. Pulled pork - smokey delicious and flavorful! It had just the right texture. A slight crisp on ends and juicy through the whole bite. I could go on and on about this place but I'm literally sobbing tears of joy right now. Do yourself a favor... No better yet... do your future children a favor and listen closely: if it's not Hoodoo Browns - honestly.... don't say it's BBQ. Most restaurants, in my opinion, never come close to living up to the hype they receive. Hoodoo Brown is not that place. EVERYTHING was out of this world! The brisket, the corn bread, the slaw, the Mac and cheese, the pickles... it was all simply incredible. And it doesn't hurt that the staff at Hoodoo is plain awesome. This is a cool joint on a local state route. There are a couple of businesses next to it and parking is somewhat limited but can be found nearby. The interior reminds you of a southern BBQ joint. I went on a late Sunday afternoon and the place was half empty which was surprising but I liked it. Restaurant seemed clean and service was attentive. Ordered two things: Brisket and sweet potato fries. Sweet potato fries was soft with just a hint of crisp on top. They were mighty dusted with brown sugar and cinnamon but not overly so. I liked this seasoning and enjoyed the fries. Brisket: Very flavorful with a little bit less-than-usual smoky flavor. Really nice crust and char on the outside. Inside was tender and pink-ish.
