I found myself awake before noon on a Sunday, which was a surprise to myself and my partner. We decided to go out for some brunch. Our destination was the Diamond Knot Brewery and Alehouse. It has been a long while since I frequented Mukilteo's waterfront area, so it was a pleasant drive with cute and elaborate houses and grandiose views of the Sound and mountains in the distance. Fortunately, Diamond Knot was closed for maintenance. On our way there, we passed a quaint looking place called Hook and Cleaver. We read the yelp reviews which were seemingly polarized. We decided to see for ourselves! We were at the door at exactly 11am and immediately greeted and sat by our waiter Phil. There were several other parties that decided to sit in the main dining area, while me and my gf decided to seat ourselves in the bar which overlooked the railroad below and the sound. We were provided with a view of the islands, the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry, Mt. Baker, etc. We had the view to ourselves as we were the only people seated in the bar. Phil took our drink orders: corpse reviver #2 and the spicy Mary. Both were excellent, but arrived a little longer than expected, about 10-15 minutes. However, he took our orders for food which arrived within 10 minutes. My crab and shrimp cake Benedict was hot and just the perfect mixture of crab/shrimp meat and filling for the crab cakes. The rose Mary potatoes had a perfect slightly crispy exterior with great flavor that wasn't over powered with rosemary. My gf had the biscuits and gravy. They were also served hot and also delicious. Prior to entering the Hook and Cleaver, we were looking through the reviews. Some of them claimed long wait times and cold food. I am glad we didn't experience that, but again, it was just us in the bar area and several groups upstairs. I can't imagine the typical service would be as great as our experience if they were at half capacity or more. Overall, we will be back again and asking for Phil to be our server. He was polite and pleasant and a great addition to our experience. read more

View is FANTASTIC! Food was pretty good. Hospitality not so much. I never like going back to places I don't feel graciousness and welcomed! Which I felt neither. Too bad b/c this could've been a regular as we are staying in Mukilteo 6-8 days/month. Perhaps some more training in hospitable attitudes could be advantageous. Good luck! read more

First time back since it was re-opened. Had bunch... & they nicely divided the Quiche as the portion was enormous. Excellent fruit bowl. My son had the bacon Blody Mary & I had the Smoky Maria. Somehow missed that it had blue cheese bits in it! Altho tasty would not order it again. Great waiter, Phil. This was our first time eating here, and overall the food, service, and ambiance were excellent. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation and the main dining area was full. Fortunately they have a large lounge area and we found a great table without issue. A few things to keep in mind: you can count on spending at least $50.00 per person for dinner and drink(s) if you order off of the regular menu and they charge a mandatory 4.25% "living wage" fee for all orders. read more

We went to the lounge during happy hour Sunday 4/7/24. Upon entering the restaurant there was a humid foul smell in the lobby. There were three tables occupied when we arrived. The bartender greeted us and came back 40 minutes later to take the order. When we gave the order we asked for separate checks. The food came out as it was good. We had the 3 course dinner but they forgot to bring the desert. The waiter blamed the kitchen and brought the desert after a few minutes. The real drama started when the bill came. There were some inaccuracies and we were double taxed. The bartender argued with us. We paid and left not likely to return. read more

Went to Hook and Cleaver for lunch today. I was hopeful that it was an improvement over Arnie's which I felt just didn't care anymore. but, regrettably, I was disappointed. I won't be visiting again. Callari wasn't fully cooked. I asked for cocktail sauce and was told they don't offer it. What? Isn't this a seafood restaurant? I ordered a cup of clam chowder. It was ok, but a little watery. But the bigger deal - it was brought to my table absent crackers of any kind. Bread cost extra at $5 or $9. My guest got a Reuben sandwich and French fries. Rueben isn't anything special and the French fries are cold and greasy. I can't recommend it and won't be returning. Too bad! The view is so beautiful but neither Ivars nor Hook and Cleaver are worth the prices, or your time. read more

Stopped in for lunch several days ago, my sister had a bowl of soup, I had fish tacos. $10 for a bowl of clam chowder and she asked if it was served with bread. Yes it was served with bread it was $5.50 for a small side of bread. I would think a $10 bowl of clam chowder would warrant a complimentary side of bread. The clam chowder was watery had a good flavor but not thickness. I had the fish tacos the first bite emptied the runny avocado purée all over my plate. The ahi was generous and perfectly cooked however $50 later we were done with lunch. The service was excellent. read more

Me and my brunch crew went to Hook & Cleaver and let's just say we were very dissatisfied. I would give the experience two . Everything was bad starting with the service. We were seated outside and it took 10 mins to get waters and drink orders taken. I ordered the Andouille Breakfast bowl and it was . It was a bunch of flavorless food thrown together. Jesus himself couldn't save the dish. I would rather eat prison food honestly & none of us finished our food. The highlight for me was the bacon slice that came with my breakfast old fashioned. I took my family to Hook and Cleaver during their soft opening and thought everything was amazing. It's a new restaurant with new staff so I understand there are a few kinks to work out, and I was willing to cut them a break. The food was awesome, our server was great, and the views are killer. My husband had a company picnic in Snohomish on Friday. We are from Portland and decided to spend the whole weekend in the Seattle area. My husband has spent his whole life coming here. There was a restaurant he remembered going to in mukilteo. We found it but was a different restaurant now but decided to try it. He ordered the halibut fish and chips and I ordered the chicken breast. He loved his. I had a bite. The tartar sauce was very delicious. Mine came with roasted Brussel sprouts. Although I hate them, I tried them. I actually liked them. We also ordered two baskets of sourdough bread. The staff was very friendly. The view was beautiful. read more

We had dinner here on Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend. It was not busy at all. I didn't see anyone come in after we arrived at 6:30 pm. The remodel looks great and the food was superb. A bit pricey, but the Ahi dinner was one of the best I've had. The dining room was noisy due to two larger parties and we were confused as to why only one server was taking care of all of us. The view is awesome too and the menu is lovely. Not sure they will make it without more tables filled and with the prices, we should have been given some more attention. I have lived in Mukilteo for 25 years. Arnie's was always a corner stone, the best cold smoked salmon ever and a great local feel and incredible view. Was so disappointed when they closed...but we could use a great streak house. Unfortunately we didn't get it. Had dinner with a friend we both had NY strips - medium and medium rare. Both were over done and indistinguishable from each other. I have had better cuts of meat from QFC when they were buy one get one free, which means marginal at best. Zero presentation - literally an overcooked slab of beef on a plate with a cup of sauce. kind of just tossed on the table (but that gets to service which is a different matter). Sides: rather than some veggies and potatoes as tradition suggest. each side was a separate order. I had a $10 baked potato that was cold and utterly unexciting. Not considering the price I would give the food a 5 out of 10 - considering it was a $250 dollar tab with truly horrible service Ill just say I look forward to them going under so something better can fill that beautiful location read more

Don't bother. This place has some growing up to do to meet that price point they're asking for the food. We had ordered the calamari. It was soggy. We ordered a garden salad and the dressing was watered down and offered little flavor. We ordered the ribeye to share with a rosemary Demi glaze. The steak looked to be a blade cut steak. No beef cap and zero flavor. In fact the steak reminded me of the traveling steak guy steak. Zero flavor, weird cut and strange texture. They took the steak back and gave us a new one. It was slightly better in that it wasn't so grisly, but still no flavor. A ribeye is all flavor so I don't think you're really getting a true ribeye. We also ordered the Mac and cheese. Again, zero flavor. It was watery and I hate panko on my m&c. We paid 180 without tip for shit! read more

Darn! I was hoping to love it. The remodel was cheaply done. The same old cheap plastic furniture is on the deck. The service was good but the food was just average. I paid $28 for fish n chips. It was good but that's way too much money for fish n chips. I think the burger was $23. Still too much. The clam chowder was not so great. The best thing on our table was my green side salad. Went here for Happy hour. Ordered Calamari, Halibut Croquettes, fish taco and bread. The only thing that was halfway decent were the halibut Croquettes. The Calamari was barely luke warm, the fish taco was weird and almost inedible with a stale tortilla that was falling apart and fish that was asmall long tiny square shape with weird sauce. The bread and butter were fine although we were charged for them unlike when this was Arnies. I think next time I will drive to Arnies in Edmonds rather than suffer through this food. The view here is still great although the interior is not as nice as when itcwas Arnies, just white walls with no decorations. Service here was not great. My family took me there for brunch on St. Patricks Day and we enjoyed it very much. The vegetarians had Classic Eggs Benedict (without the ham) and the others had an enormous breakfast of biscuits & gravy. We lingered watching the orca pod in the Sound thru the windows. I used to live in the PNW, and came here a handful of times when it was Arnie's. I remember thinking how it would be nice if the food was as good as the space and the view. I was back in town and came here with some friends for a later dinner tonight. We had a pleasant time, the staff were all super friendly and the food was great - a significant upgrade. Now this spot is tough to beat. I understand it's still pretty recently open, so I'd suggest giving it a try. I came in w no expectations, tagging along with friends, and walked out happy, having had a better than expected meal and a couple great chats with the staff. Some reviews nitpick about unimportant stuff, but whatever. They're doing a great job here and I wish them success. I'll be coming back next time I'm in town. read more

We frequented Arnie's for 20+ yrs. so trying Hook and Cleaver was an easy choice. The restaurant refresh was nicely done. Not over the top, but just right, especially the restrooms. I would, however, recommend more acoustic sound panels on the ceiling in the North "banquet" room. One loud table in there and no one else can hear. We had both a happy hour experience previously, and then returned 2 weeks later for their early bird dinner, which is excellent and reasonable priced. My Fresh Salmon was delicious as was the well-made Old Fashion. My Husband splurged on the Ahi tuna Appetizer and Lamb (Not an early-bird item) and he was very pleased. The lamb was tender, well-seasoned, and not overly fatty, as is often the case. Our server was delightful and accommodating and this made for a wonderful eve out with friends. The deserts were delicious and the portions were ample. We are happy to have another fine steak and seafood restaurant to choose from in Mukilteo. read more

After going to Arnie's for years we decided to check out the new Hook and Cleaver. What a huge disappointment! The prices are extremely expensive and their menu is limited. My husband wanted a steak but didn't want to break the bank. We ordered off the limited happy hour menu, which was still expensive. He had halibut fish and chips and with all the breading and deep fried he hardly tasted the halibut. Very dry. I ordered their bacon jam and a green salad, which was ok. House green salad had tomatoes and carrots only for 8.00. On top of disappointing food it was pretty chilly inside. We noticed there wasn't much in inside improvements and the ambiance was lacking. We love the view of Mukilteo and the bay but probably won't go back unfortunately. I will say the wait staff was friendly and accommodating. I would like to see more variety in their menu items and a more reasonable price, especially in today's world. read more

The restaurant business is a hard one. To have a good rating, one first expects the food to be well prepared. The service needs to be attentive and the atmosphere needs to be inviting. We went on Valentine's Day and sat at the bar as we both had to work that day and hadn't made advance plans. My wife had the salmon and I had the porterhouse steak. Both meals we good. The service, however, was a huge disappointment. We started with drinks. It was some time after our dinner arrived that we were asked if we wanted another drink. The server did not ask how our meals were. Then we ordered dessert. Another couple came in just for dessert and sat next to us. Their dessert, the same we had ordered, was served. We waited, trying to get the attention of the server. Another few minutes and another couple, who had been seated after us, also were served their dessert after they had eaten their dinner. Finally, I got the attention of the server and said that he should cancel our dessert order as we had tickets to a show. He did not apologise for obviously forgetting our dessert. I mentioned this to the woman at the front desk. She said she would speak to someone about it. There was never an act of contrition either by the server or the woman at the front. For a $200+ dinner for two, I would have expected more. read more
