Here are some thoughts: -We had a no doubter 5-star waiter! -Ordered the brussel sprouts for an appetizer--very good. -I don't get a lot of fresh seafood, so whenever I'm near an ocean my "go to" is fish and chips. -These were some of the best I've ever had--very crispy with panko breadcrumbs--wow!! -My wife ordered the wedge salad and it was REALLY good. -Lastly, she got the clam chowder, not as chunky as I like, but tasty. -Also the view of the lake is spectacular! Steak, fish of the day, etc... it'll be more expensive. But you could get away with a 20$ plate. A decent meal will run you 40-50$ per person and then add in drinks. Do the math. Came for HH and sat in the lounge bar since the patio was not opened that day. I was surprised with how long the list is for happy hour for both drinks and food. The lounge was not crowded at all. There were only two other tables while I was there. We ordered some drinks to start and got some appetizers to share, we ordered the wicked ribs, halibut croquettes, crab and shrimp cakes, and the ahi poke to share. The ribs and the ahi poke were ok. The ani poke was drenched in the vinaigrette and was too sour for me. The croquettes and the crab cakes were good. Came out hot and fresh, also had alot of seafood filling which is nice! This was a great little find for my partner and me. We were looking for a nice, relaxing dinner spot on a Friday and stumbled upon Hook & Cleaver. The views of the water were amazing, and the service was even better. Our waiter was very attentive and answered every question we had. The food was also excellent. My only nitpick was that our drinks took quite a while to come out after we ordered them, though it seemed like it may have just been an off night. Overall, everything else was absolutely wonderful. We went to Hook And Cleaver to celebrate our 40th anniversary. The service we received was outstanding. The food, however was not. We both ordered our steaks medium rare. When they arrived at the table, our waitress asked us to cut into them to see if they were prepared as ordered. I have never experienced that before. Both of the steals were more like medium well than medium rare. The waitress returned them to the kitchen. When we received the second pair of steaks, they were only slightly less cremated than the first. At the prices this restaurant charges, the food should be as great as the service. It was 11am on a quiet Saturday in Mukilteo, and we were seated right away. The hostess was very friendly as was our server Lea. We ordered biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and their "very popular" Crab Cake Benedict. We sipped on a couple mimosas while we enjoyed the view and waited for our breakfast. Biscuits and gravy was good the scrambled eggs had lots on brown areas suggesting they were in a pan a bit long. On a Friday night at it was not that busy and we were sat at a table quickly In Phil's section. We saw Phil racing around when we were at the host station checking in.... Phil was never near our seating and usually either gone or going away if not chatting with other diners. Another server Pete checked in with us then immediately realized he was in the wrong section which turned into a very long uncomfortable effort of his to hold things over. Eventually it got ridiculous and he kept up with us and realizing we were about to leave offered us service. Kudos to Pete but I could see the ivars fish and chips bar right there and we just wanted a nice dinner before catching a ferry. Wish I'd just left. But after this the fish and chips I got was good, expensive, and didn't have any Cole slaw??? My wife enjoyed her meal and a simple glass of wine. The service here has always been goofy and doesn't make us yearn to go back. The food is generally pretty good but high priced for what food you receive. The only servers we saw were like trying to put out a fire while serving dinner. Bus and runner staff pretty low key and getting things done casually. After a bad service experience and Pete's uncomfortable yet energetic attempt to please us my wife made sure to tell me to tip well. Which I had no problem with. Then there was a service charge in the bill. Sorry Pete for all your effort your 20 percent tip got altered over the service charge by your employer that obviously can't staff the dining room properly. The plus--beautiful view, friendly and attentive staff. The minus--the salmon was dry and the cheesecake was over-the-top sweet with added icing drizzled over it. I had lunch there on June 4th of this year, celebrating a special occasion with a friend. It was lunchtime and there were hardly any other customers there. My friend didn't finish her salmon and neither of us could finish the cheesecake. The bill, with tip, came close to 100 bucks. We decided to dine at Hook and Cleaver on Valentine's Day. Too late to make a reservation, so we dined downstairs in their lounge. Same view and food as their upstairs restaurant. We couldn't decide on which dinners to order, so we shared appetizers for dinner, which is always a fun way to go. We had lamb lollipops which were amazing. A poke bowl which was delicious. Glazed carrots were very good. A baked potato for my husband and mashed potatoes for me. You can find those sides in the steak section of their menu. We were heading to the Mukilteo waterfront to dine at Ivar's, and saw this new spot on the way. Decided to try it, so glad we did! Great ambiance, the water at night is stunning. Just went here recently for the first time and it was good. Definitely not cheap but a nice meal for a nice occasion. Me and my husband shared the big steak for two and it was really good! The smaller part was definitely well done even though we asked for medium but I get it's hard to make the whole steak the same with different cuts. The peppercorn sauce is a must for dipping. It was the best sauce I've ever had! Service was good but felt a little awkward at times. The restaurant had a clean classic feel. Definitely can dress up. Today, we visited Hook & Cleaver on Mother's Day. This is our 2nd breakfast visit but the first time for mom. We've also gone here for dinner. Every visit has been exceptional but today was particularly impressive. First of all our server was very pleasant--smiley and friendly--and immediately complimented my mom's sweater. She was on it. Her order taking, water delivery, bringing an extra knife--all without asking. We weren't her only table yet her exemplary abilities made us feel that way. Icing on the cake? She wrote the date on our left-overs box--how incredibly thoughtful! The little things like this add up to a truly amazing experience. That said, the experience DID NOT stop with our server. The bus-person (what's the correct term?) was also "on it." This young man made sure we had a full carafe of water, and he asked us if he could box up the cinnamon roll (fabulous product, btw) that we didn't finish eating. He asked us before we asked anyone. Amazing. I honestly have not seen this level of service and care at ANY restaurant in the greater Seattle area. Super impressive! Then there's a the food. I had Andy's Scramble which has andouille sausage mixed with bacon and some other stuff. It was delightful--likely the very best scramble I've had in the Puget Sound region. Super flavorful, not greasy or excessively buttery. It was the perfect portion. It came with sourdough bread with a delicious jam. A bit more jam would've made me happier but I probably need to cut down anyway. Mom had the vegetable frittata and was happy with that. My better half had the chicken and waffles. This was the most unique interpretation of this dish I've experienced, as I enjoyed a bite. They brought some heat to the spices, yet has this honey sauce on it. Really tremendous. I recommend all these dishes, they were delicious. It's like the chef takes the special care to make truly great dishes and not just cooking boring recipes that you usually find at this price point. The ambiance here is inviting and warm. No blaring audio system, no TV's in the dining room. A truly comfortable place not trying to be something chic. A great place for a family meal, special occasion, or a business meeting. This is so hard to find these days with all the noise pollution at nearly every eating establishment I visit. All in all, Hook & Cleaver has escalated to one of my favorite restaurants in the area. With excellent service, great tasting food, and reasonable pricing, I can't really think of a better place! Other restaurants in the Western Washington should visit Hook & Cleaver to see how a restaurant with great service and a thoughtful staff make all the difference. What a wonderful experience! Pete was the epitome of hospitality- courteous, ready to give recommendations and friendly. The restaurant had a lovely view of the water and sunset with an upscale, yet casual feel. We called It our "fa-sual" dinner (fancy but casual). Last night I visited the Hook and Cleaver, during Happy Hour, when a limited selection of food and drinks are discounted 2 and 1 dollars off, respectively. I ordered the fish and chips, which consists of 3 pieces of cod (according to menu) and normally costs $18, and knocked down to $16 for Happy Hour. When the food arrived, I soon realized that there were only 2 pieces of cod. I asked the waitress about this and she said "it's only 2 pieces for Happy Hour". I didn't think much and let it slip, only to later ponder whether they forgot the 3rd piece of fish, or they simply gave me over 30 percent less fish for barely a lower cost. That isn't really the definition of Happy Hour. Sounds more like a junior meal. Food was decent, but with getting only a small handful of fries and a much smaller portion of meat for the price I feel pretty cleaved but not hooked. read more

We have been visiting Hook & Cleaver since they opened. Their view and Happy Hour are perfection! Happy Hour is available in their downstairs bar area. We were also pleasantly surprised to see Ian working, as we've visited a couple of other places where he was working at the time and believe he provides amazing service! There is plenty of parking outside and seating inside on each level. We went on 1/25/2025 with my in-laws and had an amazing experience. Our server was Fil, and he did an incredible job. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, offered my father-in-law a taster of the beer he was interested in, and made sure my meal was cooked with no dairy contact. All of our meals came out correct and timely. His accommodations went above and beyond--we felt like we were getting special treatment! Amazing job! I ordered the Mock-apolitan as my beverage, and it was slightly sparkling and sweet but not over the top. We ordered a full loaf of sourdough to share, and it came out warm and soft! For my dinner, I ordered the Prime Rib Dip with no cheese. Everything was cooked with olive oil and came with the perfect amount of Au Jus for me! I would have preferred the bread to be a bit softer, similar to the sourdough loaf, but the Au Jus helped soften it up! The staff at the door were welcoming, and the restrooms were clean and tidy! My wife and seem to have a new favorite dining spot in H&C. You're welcomed as soon as you enter the hostess escort to you table this time we were given a window table, the view is stunning. We met our waiter,Peter who just had a comfortable demeanor while providing excellent service. Our water glasses were always full without asking. My wife started with the Chowder and a Wedge salad while I went with the Calamari. We also placed our orders for our main, my wife chose the Roast Chicken and I went with the Alaskan Halibut. As we enjoyed the view, watching the Ferry traffic on the water and maybe a wedding happening down by the Lighthouse we soon had our appetizers arrive along with a couple of drinks. The Chowder must have been good because when Peter stopped by to check how we were doing it was pretty much gone same thing happened with my Calamari I had to tell Peter that it was the best I've had in quite some time. Not over cooked, tender chew great flavor with the flour dredge. Our mains arrived and our pace slowed a bit we were having a nice dinner and enjoying watching the efficiency of Peter and the rest of the wait staff. Nice presentation of my Halibut, nicely prepared and my wife let me have a bite of Chicken it was moist not over cooked. Came here on opening day 11/7! Was very excited because Arnie's that was here before was my family's favorite restaurant and we'd go probably every other week and most special occasions. At 4pm I asked to make a reservation for 18 people for 8pm the same night and they somehow were able to do it! We all were so happy and thought it was fate! We were celebrating 4 people's birthdays LOL. As we had so many people on opening night, there was a long wait. Should be expected considering the circumstance. Our waiter, Pete, was AMAZING. He moved tables for us, took everyone's order, and it was great. With the big table it got pretty loud (not sure how they could've fixed that it was the room acoustics) but he was super patient. I probably had a bite of everything on the menu. Crab cakes were delicious, calamari was amazing, potato rolls were decent but the butter was too sweet for most people at the table. Bacon jam spread was pretty nom nom yum. Alaskan Halibut was devoured. Pasta nera might have been a bit too much for me (could be the squid ink smell). I think it would've been better if it was just a regular kind of noodle. GET THE BRUSSEL SPROUTS PERIOD. My cousin got the New York and she didn't really think it had enough flavor. She tried the dipping sauce but is super sensitive to spice and thought it was too spicy. Dessert time. Was all pretty great! The cobbler granola was pretty crunchy crunch crunch (hard). Went to have a nice seafood dinner with family visiting from out of town. The prices are wildly high for the quality of food. I had a $35 Seafood Mac and Cheese and they didn't even bother to brown the breadcrumbs on top after obviously microwaving it. My dad had some fried shrimp that had come from the freezer and the risotto on both my mom's salmon and my brothers dishes was undercooked (hard) and inedible. For the nearly $300 we spent for 5 people, all we paid for was the view. I do not recommend. Drive down to Edmonds or Seattle where literally anything is better. read more

HH review Fantastic views with solid service, food, and drink. Decent HH deals, too. Also, it's haunted by at least one ghost if not two. In long This was everybody's special-occasion place in Mukilteo for decades, and got sold a couple years ago. Lots of old-school regulars worried, but the group that bought it runs good places with really dependable food and drink--not always cheap for what it is, but good HH deals are a constant throughout their places. They didn't completely rebuild the place, but they did an extensive reno that makes it feel up to date, if not quite brand new. It's a semi-funky hillside structure with wide spaces on the shallow side--there are 20+ tables in the bar, but they're all in a single row against the windows. Long and narrow, ya know? As a result, every table has a view. Nice view, too--some trains, some ferry traffic, and then Whidbey, saltwater, and across to the Kitsap Peninsula, too. Beautiful in any weather IMO. The bartender mentioned that on foggy days, the ferries look like they're floating in mid-air across a continuous grey mist. We timed our visit well to catch HH. Perfect timing. Most drinks and small plates are $2 off. The halibut croquettes are very well executed--fresh fish, tasty flaky crust, nice rich sauce showing a hint of lobster stock flavor. The cocktails all ended up being really good. The Endless River has a nice smoky side from the mezcal, and the Harbour Pointe is quiet delicious even if, like me, you can't imagine what it'll taste like after you read the description. We also checked out a Manhattan and a Corpse Reviver, and if it's not too busy, the tender will shoot the breeze about recipes and proportions and get to know your tastes a bit. He and the hostess chatted for a while about haunted places they've worked, which includes H&C. They've heard someone saying their name when they're alone in the room, and a couple other little things. Nothing too shocking or diabolical, but definitely chilling in a fun way if you love ghost stories. I dig this stuff, and I think we've found a regular HH stop. read more
