Got a nice lunch in here by getting a 3-taco plate! I picked the original crispy fish. I was pretty impressed by the size of the fish in each taco and felt very satisfied by the third taco. There was enough crunchy toppings and sauce to add onto the fish filet. The fish itself was soft inside with a nice and fluffy crunch. Staff greeted me right away and also personally served me my order when it was ready. Bathrooms and interior clean. Free parking with the shared lot of other businesses.

OMG their pico de gallo is soooooo tasty

So happy to say this place still lives up to 5 star!! Service still great!! The nice gentleman even offer us cups to get water as we wait for our food. Of course the food is always full of flavor and still great portions even at this economy. Place here is nice and roomy when dining in, we love doing take out and they make no mistakes on what they put in our bag(knock on wood)! This is totally our go to place for take out for fish!!

I like coming to Hook'd and usually order the fish tacos and ahi poke as an appetizer, however, lately the portion size for the poke seems smaller and the bowl is not even filled. (See picture attached). For the price of what you are paying for, you should at least receive a full serving of the food you order.

this place hit the spot for a quick seafood run. clam chowder was good-- a little too milky but the flavor was good. fish and chips and fish tacos were nice and crispy. the poke was not mindblowing, but still was fresh and had good flavor. i was most pleasantly surprised by the swordfish plate. the sauce on it was super creamy and went well with the fish and the rice. will come back to try other fish options! we dined in and the service was great.

First time for us eating here. We were visiting a family member in the area and, of course, looked for AA restaurants to try. We are fans of California Fish Grill and noticed the similarity of Hook'd's sign. Figured it was somehow related. When arriving, it was completely empty. A bit surprising considering it was 1pm on a weekday and the parking lot was packed (more on that in a minute). During our dine-in meal, a handful of people came in but all got their food to go. We were greeted by the cashier and asked what we wanted. The menu is hanging on the wall behind the counter - some appetizers, fish entrees, pasta entrees with fish, etc. Looked similar to what you could get at a California Fish Grill. We ordered a calamari appetizer, two fish tacos and the Mahi Mahi. Presentation on all three was good, although we did send back the calamari as it was over-fried. The replacement was perfectly golden brown. These were good and the cocktail sauce tasty but lacked a kick. But still really good enough. I would order this item again. The Mahi Mahi was a little over-cooked as well. Bummer since Mahi Mahi already is a little denser than most fish. Made it a bit hard to eat. But, it did have a good flavor. You get to pick two sides and I just went with rice and fries. Flavor on both of these was acceptable. My wife had the fish tacos. Flavor was good and the quantity was decent - slightly larger than a standard street taco. The coleslaw was just okay as was the zucchini. But the nice thing here is that they didn't charge us extra for the zucchini. Service time was fairly quick and they bring your food to your table. They also have a fountain drink station for self-service. Worked fine. Only 3-stars as most of the items were just okay, 4-stars for the calamari. If we were to return, we'd try different dishes. Kind of curious about their pasta dishes. The parking lot is undersized. Driving through from the entrance by El Pollo Loco, we had to stop four times. First was the corner by the drive-thru to El Pollo Loco, cars were blocking the parking lot trying to get into it. Then going around any corner in the lot, it was only big enough for one car to turn at a time. Then people trying to park, etc. You'll see if you go. We wound up parking a long the edge over by Farmer Boys. Dining area was clean, bathroom were okay - still using paper towels to dry your hands which I totally prefer to the air dryers. They have both indoor and some outdoor seating right out front. Hope your experience is better than ours and...enjoy!!!

Nice place. Had never been before. Clean inside, doesn't smell oily or fishy like so many places do. Ordered the clam chowder and 3 pc fish and chip for lunch Service was quick and friendly. Order at the counter and they bring to you at the table. Clam chowder was very good, had a nice buttery flavor. Not too thick. Just right Fish and chips were excellent. Flaky white fish, not too greasy with a nice side of fries. Would definitely come back

Frankenstein loves him some Hook'd Fish Grill. Frankenstein always asking wife, Hey wife, let's go Hook'd Fish Grill for Fish Tacos. They really do make some damn good Baja Fish Tacos. The grilled Mahi Mahi with the sesame dressing also gets honorable mention. Frankenstein remember from long time a go the Fried Fish here was just okay. Frankenstein also remember the Clam Chowder used to be weak, but got better last time Frankenstein have. Today Frankenstein get choose restaurant for lunch! Mmmmm. The Munch Box was not going to fly with Bride of Frankenstein so me say, Hey wife, let's go Hook'd Fish Grill for Fish Tacos and Fish and Chips! Wife point out, Fish and Chips here was just okay, don't you remember? California Fish Grill has better...... Bride of Frankenstein always have something to say to Frankenstein. Frankenstein order- Clam Chowder Baja Fish Taco Fish & Shrimp Combo French fries hot, good! Fried Shrimp, pretty good! Baja Fish Taco, always good! Clam Chowder, Hot but bland. Not a lot of potato or clams. Frankenstein has had better. Fried Fish, Notta So Good! I'm sorry HFG, there is room for improvement here. It's pre battered frozen fish. It has to be. A little greasy. A little fishy. Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein no eat. Bride of Frankenstein right again!

    Fish taco and shrimp taco

I went in to have something light and that's exactly what I got. I ordered one fish taco and one shrimp and they were both so delicious and satisfying. On top of that no wait time. It was pretty slow only two customers in the restaurant so I was in and out in no time. Thursday on at 6p no line! I'll definitely go again and try more items, though I would appreciate some visuals I wasn't disappointed with my order.

We have gone to two locations..Northridge and Chatsworth. Both were great!!! Both locations were very clean and service was fast. My son loves fried shrimp and they have the best for fast food. I love both the fried catfish and their grilled fish choices. Very tasty. Their Cajun fries are great. Will definitely support by going back.

Mahi Mahi with rice and coleslaw

This is a hidden gem of a seafood restaurant. It's casual dining that serves top quality Mahi Mahi in generous portions. The fish is equal to that served at King's Fish House while King's charges three times the price. With these affordable prices, there's no excuse not to eat healthy more often. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable.

    Incorrect kitchen hours

They close for orders before the restaurant is officially closed. They also do not answer the phone before they are closed. I have no issues with a kitchen closing before a restaurant does, but those hours should be posted somewhere. My three stars are based on previously eating here combined with this experience.

I have been here one other time, eaten there and had a crispy fish taco and it was absolutely delicious. This time we ordered to go and I will take some pictures we got calamari tacos and salmon tacos with sweet potato fries.

    Red Snapper

First time here yay! I was so excited. Door dash "hooked" me up. Get it? I got the red snapper with a side of Cajun sauce with a side of zucchini and salad with balsamic dressing. The dish had a sauce/gravy at the bottom which had everything so moist. Which I enjoyed! That Cajun sauce was 10000/10. It had a great consistency and wish I had more. I usually need hot sauce and lemon with my fish but the sauce and flavors was just enough! The salad was so light and the perfect pieces of green. I also loved the fine sliced carrots on the bottom. I got 3 pieces of fish! Like wow that was so unexpected. For only $13 too!

Cajun Seared Ahi Tuna with grilled zucchini and coke slaw. Sooo good.

I came for lunch Friday afternoon around noon with 3 others and it was pretty busy as it was peak lunch time. You can tell it's a popular spot. You order at the counter first and then get a spot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but it was super windy the day we came, so no one was sitting outside. I got the Alex burrito without cheese and sour cream for $13.25. Asked for a recommendation for the meat and was told their al pastor is really good, so I went with that. I liked that they call you as they're making your burrito, so you can customize it further (which kind of salsa, onions and cilantro, do you want it cut in half, etc.). As a picky eater, I really appreciated that. We all got burritos, and one friend paid an extra 3 bucks to make it wet. Chips come on the side, and you can help yourself to salsa at their fresh salsa bar. This is the first taqueria I can remember that has a mild tomato salsa without raw onion and very little cilantro. I was excited to see that finally there's a salsa I can eat. My Alex burrito was one of the best burritos I've had imo. The proportion of meat to beans to rice was perfect and the rice tasted great. The al pastor was amazing: super flavorful and smoky. I usually feel like most burritos taste about the same to me, but I definitely found myself enjoying this one more than usual, which says a lot. Also, they're generously sized here. I wasn't able to finish mine despite my best efforts and packed the last quarter to bring home for dinner. I'd like to end my review by mentioning how polite and friendly everyone was, from the guy taking our order to the guy making the food. I was really impressed by this as well, since taquerias usually aren't exactly known for their service. I can't wait to come back!

My new favorite Mexican spot on the west side of the valley!…read more Love this place! I should preface my review by saying that I only leave Yelp reviews if I really loved, or really hated somewhere (be it a restaurant/bar/store/hotel/whatever). Luckily Chavela's is somewhere that I love!! Chavela's was previously "661 Tijuana Tacos", which my wife and I tried once and didn't enjoy. We went back to give them a 2nd chance, but they still sucked, so we didn't go back again. Around 6 months ago, we noticed that there was a new sign up, so we went in to check it out. Thank god, this was a whole new restaurant with new owners, a new cook, and a new menu! (and not just a rebranding of the old place). We decided to try them and OMG, they're FUCKING AMAZING! Pretty much everything appears to be made from scratch, in-house, from the tortillas to the chips, salsas & guacamole. Since that first visit my wife and I have ordered takeout probably 10 times and have never been disappointed. Customer service is excellent, with friendly cashiers both in-person & over the phone, the inside of the restaurant is clean and well laid out, the menu is simple & easy to read, and their "salsa bar" has a good selection of always freshly made salsas, stays well stocked, and is never too messy. We also appreciate the pricing. Chavela's is about 20% cheaper than another local scratch kitchen Mexican spot, that my wife and I loved, but had to stop ordering take-out from because they were just too damn expensive. Here are my recommendations from Chavela's: - Birria anything! Their birria is PHENOMENAL. And their consomme is *chef's kiss*. One of our favorite things to order (and great hangover food) is their birria quesataco combo + consomme to dip the tacos in. Lots of places that have birria & consomme make the consomme super, super salty, and if they're reheating & re-using it, it makes it saltier and saltier each time. Chavela's makes their consomme in the morning, and when it runs out, consomme is done for the day. If there's any left at the end of the day, it goes home with team members. They don't reuse/recycle consomme to the next day! I also love their birria soft tacos and the birria quesadilla. - Asada & al pastor soft tacos. Soft, tender meats with tons of flavor (onions, cilantro, salsa) on homemade tortillas. What more do you need! Vampiros. FIRE!!! Try them yourself and refute me. I dare you! - Tortas. I've only tried their Cubano torta so far, but it was fantastic (and huge). - Chips & Guacamole. All made in-house, with tons of flavor in the guac, and just the right amount of salt on the chips. My ONLY complaints are that they don't do machaca, so we can't get machaca & eggs or machaca burritos, they don't make albondigas soup, and they don't have any kind of customer rewards program or something along the lines of frequent customer cards, etc. Fingers crossed they'll add all these things in the future! Overall, Chavela's is a great Mexican restaurant that is well worth spending your money at!

When I got to the restaurant it was crap parking, and not inviting at all inside. But I kept a positive attitude and got instead, no greeting from the girl. I smiled and said hi to the girl working and she literally just stared at me with the coldest face. I paid for my food and said thank you and again not a smile, not a wave, nothing from anyone. Okay so most important - the food. Firstly, I got the asada fries. The fries were cooked decent but there was just no flavor at all. It also was cold and clumpy as if it'd been sitting a while which was odd bc I got there 10 min after ordering and ate it no more than 10 min later. Then I got 2 plain asada tacos for my kids - so dry and over cooked. The tortillas over powered the meat for all of the tacos, very thick and just not good. And the asada meat was like the end meat in a party tray, just all the burnt bits. Then I got pastor tacos, these weren't as dry but didn't taste like typical pastor tacos. Not impressive but probably the better out of the entire order. Which isn't saying much. Lastly and most upsettingly, it was raining today so I was craving some Birria tacos. Which is what I ordered for myself. When I got them it was not Birria. I asked the girl and she said it's Barbacoa which is the same thing. It was not the same thing. The meat was again super dry, not saucy at all, and just stuck in between regular dry tortillas. Such a letdown. Not one of these dishes had flavor, like not even salt, and the 2 salsa options were very basic also. Definitely will not go back. Also the radishes to go were not fresh in the slightest.
