My guy wanted to try Al Carajo for their breakfast burrito, so we stopped by around noon to check it out. It's a small hole-in-the-wall spot with just two tables inside, a parklet, and a few additional tables outside. I told him I wanted the chicken tinga tacos, then grabbed a table while he waited in line to place our order. After about a 10 minute wait, we got our food. I immediately noticed I had been given a chicken tinga quesadilla instead of the tacos. I was already hungry and didn't want to ask them to remake it, so I just ate the quesadilla. Looking at the receipt afterward, we realized it had been rung up as a quesadilla. The menu was a little confusing because there are two chicken tinga items. Under the taco section, it simply says "Chicken Tinga," while the quesadilla is listed as "Chicken Tinga Quesadilla." We didn't realize we needed to specify, so it ended up being a misunderstanding. *** OUR PICKS *** BREAKFAST BURRITO ~ 13" flour tortilla, chorizo, cilantro, onions, hash browns, scrambled eggs, mix jack and cheddar cheese, avocado, sriracha cream mayo. ($14) The breakfast burrito looked smaller than the posted photos from other patrons. The eggs looked fluffier too. Though overall, it was good, but I guess our expectations were higher and to compare with a super burrito elsewhere, it was pricey. Also, it was wrapped loosely, so there was more tortilla than filling. 3.5/5 CHICKEN TINGA QUESADILLA ~ 10" flour tortilla, cheese, shredded chicken in a sauce made with tomatoes, chipotle, onions and garlic. ($14) This one was quite plain and underwhelming. Sauces given on the side were not spicy, but salty. Sadly, this item didn't hit the spot. And also quite small for a quesadilla. Maybe the chicken tinga tacos would have been better. 3/5 The food and service is a solid 3.5 stars.
Seriously amazing. All of the food was incredibly flavorful, worth what you spend, and filling. This is the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. A hash brown instead of potatoes? Genius. The chilaquiles were crispy, cooked perfectly. HIGHLY recommend!! Limited seating, but we managed to find a table on a weekend morning, so it's nothing too crazy. Even though the line was out the door, the wait was not bad at all. Please try this place! Can't wait to go again.
Busy! 25-30 minutes worth the wait + Chicken Tinga Quesadilla ($14 + $2 avocado): bit spicy, mild salsa, wish had more avocado but loved the flour tortilla and all components (8/10)
Tiny spot. Big flavors. We lucked out, beat the crowd and grabbed a seat inside before the line started wrapping out the door. For breakfast we ordered the chilaquiles and the breakfast burrito. Everything tasted amazing. The chilaquiles were packed with flavor and came with chicken tinga. The breakfast burrito was hearty and flavorful as well. Both meals were satisfying and exactly what we were craving. The salsa also deserves separate recognition, it was incredibly good and the perfect amount of heat. Service was efficient and the food came out fast which was perfect because I was starving. Overall, 10/10. Worth the wait if you hit the busy hours but if you can sneak in before the rush, even better.

The hash browns were crispy which added a nice texture, but they were quite oily. It's a small place with some seating inside and outside. Service was friendly & efficient. It was easy to find street parking nearby early in the morning.
Hype is worth it 100%. The breakfast burrito is delicious and the crispy tots take it over the top. The salsa is so good and spicy I got another one on the side. I don't even really like breakfast burritos but this one stole my heart. Service is always great here. All the employees are super nice and efficient!
Breakfast burrito on point. Eggs, crispy hash, avo, cheese, savory chorizo, all in an excellent tortilla. I loved their unique orange salsa as well.
This place was pretty good. I got to try the Ube chicken taco chicken tinga and I like that it was delicious. It was juicy put tomato on it the sauce with shredded chicken and I liked having an avocado also with the salsa Verde on it, and I had the water some Sanya drink so good shout out to my homie for my and sharing this food with me the what is it queso Birria pizza that was OK but the Uber chicken tikka Tinga is the one I like that Shout out to the service too I got to sit inside. Service was friendly and even help clean up our table in the end so very thankful.
Al Carajo is the real deal. I finally made it out to the Mission for some tacos and stumbled into Al Carajo not knowing what to expect. Ordered the tinga tacos and honestly was not prepared for how good they were going to be. The sauce. Let me talk about the sauce. It was smoky, rich, and had this slow building warmth that just coated every single bite. You could tell it was made with actual care and not something that came out of a jar. The chicken was tender and pulled apart perfectly, soaking up every drop of that tinga sauce like it was made for it. The vibe of the spot fits right into the Mission. Unpretentious, no frills, just good food with personality. Service was straightforward and the portions were solid for the price.
I had a good experience at Al carajo. The food was pretty delicious & the service was nice and quick. I got the chilaquiles - had really been craving it for some reason... it was pretty delicious. I thought the blend of flavors was done very well. The chicken was nice, flavorful, and juicy. I thought it was impressive the chips stayed crunchy even with all the toppings. The eggs and onions were good too. I also really liked the salsa - gave it a little bit of heat & some nice flavor. Service was really quick here. They had my food out in just a few minutes. It also wasn't super expensive! I enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk. Overall I'd recommend this place. Good food!

AL CARAJO HAS LITERALLY THE BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO IN ALL OF SF! it literally jam packed every single variety of flavor and texture and taste in one burrito, so filling and delicious and consistent and good every time. the crispiness of the tater tots with the creamy nuttiness of the avocado and the fluffiness of the eggs (not rubbery or powdered tasting at all, the eggs have their own distinct savory flavor) and the sharp kick of the cheese with the spiciness of the chorizo oh my days what a burrito from heaven!!! service is pretty fast and the location is small, so not much indoor seating, but plenty outside to sit and can grab and go easily!

I imagine if it's super busy, it would be hard to sit. Waited around 7 minutes for our breakfast burritos to come out. Overall, the burritos were good! I didn't except the chorizo to have a ground beef texture. Although there were hash browns, I felt the burrito was lacking a crunch to it. It also was quite oily so the oil was getting everywhere. To me it is not the best breakfast burrito, BUT it is up there. I would come back!

If the hash browns are crispy, there are very few breakfast burritos competing with Al Carajo. When they aren't, it doesn't feel worth the $13-15 price. There will always be a wait because they do crazy volume but they do their best - never a real issue. I hope they put the hashbrowns in some other items. Or a new item like a breakfast burrito bowl or a potato taco. read more

Wanted to try this place cause apparently it was the best breakfast burrito and some foodies swore by it, lol. It is just ok, nothing crazy but decent. Pretty decent amount of meat which I'll give them that. Greeted when I came in, the place is small yet busy, nice music playing, a few seats inside and there is outside seating. I love breakfast burritos, and I was told this was THE spot to get them. I honestly prefer breakfast burritos to regular ones, and I think it's because of the egg element. And I reallyyyy liked the egg in this one- it was fried over easy instead of how it usually is in burritos, scrambled, and I think the over easy really made a difference. All the other fillings were so flavorful and not overly oily as burritos can sometimes be, and the sauce it came with was pretty spicy! Probably the only thing I would note is that there were some large folds of plain tortilla, so I guess it could use more filling (or a smaller tortilla). Nevertheless I will be recommending this to anyone who wants a beautiful burrito in SF. read more

People always say X is the best in the city and I'm often afraid of being disappointed. I usually don't like breakfast burritos, but this was really delicious. The burrito has egg, chorizo/sausage, and nice and crispy potato. I loved the addition of the potato, it is such a good texture to add into an otherwise mush burrito. The burrito appeared to be pretty small, but it was satiating! The restaurant itself is pretty small. It has a nice big open window with limited seating indoor and outdoor. The service was fast. Food came out in less than 5 minutes, but I was the only person in the store, so it might be different on a busier day. read more

I live in the city and have tried many taco places, people often recommend La Taqueria, but I think Al Carajo may have them beat. The fish taco was crispy and didn't have any fish taste while still being flavorful. Conchinita was VERY juicy and the verde salsa was a perfect match. Pastor taco was crunchy and not oily! Tacos ranged from ($9-$12) on the menu. Michelada was not lemony but still really good, it was on the sweeter side with slight spice. Some places water down Miches but this one could be drank over time while adding more beer to the mix. Overall atmosphere: music is playing, outdoor seating, and very kind staff I can't wait to be back with a group of friends. read more

As someone who takes their chilaquiles seriously, I had to try the Torta de Chilaquiles and overall, it definitely delivered. The bread was perfectly toasted with just the right amount of crisp on the outside while staying soft inside. When you bite into it, you get that satisfying texture immediately. The portion was generous, packed with saucy chilaquiles, tender shredded chicken, queso fresco and fresh cilantro. But let's talk about the eggs, they were honestly the star. Cooked well, flavorful and they tied the whole sandwich together beautifully. That's what made it feel complete. Now the only thing I'd suggest....Turn up the heat. Flavor wise it's solid, but it could absolutely benefit from more spice to really wake it up and give it that bold punch chilaquiles are known for. Overall, a very satisfying torta and one I'd order again, just with extra salsa next time. read more

THE BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO. The crunch, the spice level, the amount of chorizo and egg. It was perfect!! Must try! I dream about it. We also got the ceviche which wasn't that great. It came with the whole shrimp and not cut up. The sauce was okay. Wouldn't get it again, not worth $18. Customer service was great. Our food was brought out to us. The sauce for the burrito was really good. I'd go there every day if I lived in the area. Seat is limited and we waited about like 15-20 mins for our order. Holay! Why does this place not have more views??? It is a hidden gem? I had no idea what I was waiting for my tastebuds. We were in the area and were going to go to the famous burrito spot. Then saw a lot of people waiting for this spot. Apparently many yelpers saying it's the best breakfast burrito in the city. I admit I am not a breakfast burrito person. But this definitely was delicious! It had chorizo, fluffy egg, avocado, and most importantly crunchy hashbrowns. The perfect breakfast burrito. HOWEVER! The person working there told me her favorite was the chicken quesadilla. So glad I took her advice. This is THE BEST CHICKEN QUESADILLA! I am still dreaming about it. read more

Came by on a weekday morning and it wasn't crowded. I ordered the famous breakfast burrito and the order was ready in about 5 minutes. The staff were friendly and I felt very welcomed. The burrito itself was everything I expect from a perfect breakfast burrito. Well cooked ingredients and a good ratio between all of them. Without a doubt, this is in my top 3 best chorizo breakfast burritos I've had so far. The hash browns were notably very crispy so I will say that if you prefer your potatoes fluffier this may be a downside. Breakfast burrito was wrapped well so the experience of eating it was clean for me but the tortilla was thick at certain parts. The highlight for me was the sauce which had an amazing pepper flavor to it and it was creamy yet refreshing and bright at the same time. I wish I had asked for more sauce because I was literally drinking it. I'll definitely be coming back to try a different speciality. read more

Hey munchkins! One of my best friends from college is back in town and boy am I excited! We've been walking around a bunch and we are now at Al Carajo! We found this place based on Beli and it was really good! We got a breakfast burrito with hash browns in it which was a stroke of genius! The one downside is that we got the burrito without the chorizo which it seems like it normally revolved around. It was still really good but I don't think it quite reached the peak of culinary excellence it was capable of. The burrito was the perfect thing for warming up on a cloudy overcast day like today! read more

Saw so many recommendations for their breakfast burrito, and it did not disappoint! The potato's inside are diced fine and fried so they're crunchy, which gave the burrito a nice bite and texture. The sauce included is sriracha mayo and I do wish a salsa was included instead to make it spicier and less heavy. We also tried the breakfast torta with chilaquiles inside, and this item is shippable. The flavor was okay and the torta fell apart while eating it/bread soaked immediately. read more

On 22nd street in the Mission District two of the best breakfast burritos in San Francisco are located a block away from each other. Al Carajo serves a Birria Pizza, Valencia Fish tacos , and great breakfast burritos. The Al Carajo breakfast burrito is very hearty. The break burrito has a flour tortilla, chorizo, tots potatoes, scramble eggs, mix jack & cheese, avocado, syracha mayo. The breakfast burrito had a good crunch and a good flavor and it is savory. One of the best breakfast burritos in San Francisco. Remember Al Carajo isn't a person's with the first name Al and you won't tell someone to go to Al Carajo ( means go to hell in Spanish ) unless it's the restaurant on 22nd street in San Francisco. Al Carajo breakfast burritos are made with a flour "tortilla "they add ingredients like cheese for the Chilaquiles called "cotija"and have a breakfast item called the "Breakfidilla"along with Birria Pizza and Chicken Tinga "Quesadilla" The block on 22nd street known to have a shoe store that sold Pumas named Fred's but now it's "gone" now there is good breakfast burritos flavors of the Peninsula in Mexico called " Yucatán " and wash it down with drink called the Sexihelada as add "on" because they have one of the best breakfast burrito in the city of San Francisco for "Don Juan" read more

Completely appalled by this comparison. Mind you this was 1 year ago to now and this comparison should be illegal. My burrito was 75% tortilla and 10% chorizo. The other 15% was just space. Was super stoked as this has been my favorite burrito place, but sad to see the quality go down. read more
No line around 9am on Saturday. Ordered the breakfast burrito and it was ready in about 10 minutes. There are only two small tables inside but there are 4-5 tables outside you can sit at. The tortilla for the burrito was cooked well and had a slight crisp - a bit better than Breakfast Little's. It did feel like there was more tortilla in this burrito than BL's + a bit more egg too. I opted for no avocado but they provide the siracha mayo on the side, which was nice. Chorizo was standard in flavor but had a good char/smokey-ness to it. read more

Hands down the best breakfast burrito I've had in the city. Maybe even the best breakfast burrito I've ever had period. My friends introduced this place to me and I've gotta say that breakfast burrito is for sure a 10/10. I shared one with my friend because I wasn't super hungry but I could've definitely devoured one on my own. I need to come back soon to try the aguachile because I've heard great things, but I also tried the ceviche which is another 10/10 for me. Service and ambiance is overall good, but the food is what really makes it. Will be back soon. read more

Delicious bfast burrito spot! There is some seating and wait was ~20min on a saturday morning. Loved the orange sauce that comes with the burrito - has a nice spice level. I liked that the burrito was grilled on the outside. The hashbrown inside was crisped so well, a perfect texture contrast. The avocado was fresh and whole. Only wish was there to be more chorizo - it was great, no excess oil drippings. read more

Another gem taco spot in the mission with the best conchinita pibil I've had in a while. The salbute had pieces of charred pork to die for. Everything was truly delicious. Ceviche yucateco had a nice kick to it. Long line, we had to wait about 10 min to get our order but worth it. read more

Solid spot! I tried their breakfast burrito and it was really good, nothing crazy impressive but one of the better classic breakfast burritos. I wish they put the sauce inside. The crisp of the hash browns was really nice though. My friend ordered the ceviche and it was pretty fresh and good. I also tried my friends torta and I'd say this sandwich was probably their best item on the menu that we tried. Flavors came together nicely and the bread was fresh and fluffy. Grab and go spot, pretty small and limited seating if you want to eat there, which we barely managed to do. All in all it was good but nothing to die for. I'd put other breakfast burritos and Mexican places ahead of this one. read more

Went on a Sunday morning around 9:45 am. No line and there was a parking spot right at front. The workers were welcoming and greeted me as I entered. I ordered a breakfast burrito. Very filling! I did think there was a lot of tortilla but that's also what makes it good. The bacon in this is the star of the show. It's what makes it so crunchy. The salsa adds that flavor to it that I was looking for. I don't think I'm the biggest fan of chorizo so I am a little biased and thought overall it was good but nothing super spectacular. It was a good try and if you are in the area and want something filling, you should try! I dont think I would go out of my way again for it though bc it wasn't something so special I'd crave for again. read more

I may exaggerate a lot but this was genuinely the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. Life changing stuff. You literally just have to eat it to understand, I cannot put into words how delicious this thing is. Everything just works. The breakfast burrito here is amazing! For the longest time, I actually thought I didn't like breakfast burritos in general. Turns out I've just had bad breakfast burritos up until now. After having breakfast here, I can say that the breakfast burrito here is by far the best that I've had in the city. I also tried some of the huevos motuleños and quesadilla, which were both tasty as well. Space is kind of tight inside, but there are some parklet seating outside if you're dining in. Breakfast burrito is legit. Very very good. Small store front, couple tables inside and a couple tables outside. The staff is normal nothing extraordinary. The breakfast burrito is a chorizo style burrito. It's the only option. I'm not a chorizo kind of person as my first choice but this place has a good reputation for a quality breakfast burrito so I got what they offer. If I don't eat pork, can I get chicken in the breakfast burrito instead of chorizo?
Unfortunately we only make our burrito with chorizo or with out chorizo. We are working hard to get a bigger kitchen so we can have more option on our menu. I really sorry.

Hi no reservation need. We only have two tables inside, no tables outside because the rain.
