I really love a good breakfast. Perfectly runny, eggs, breakfast potatoes that are well seasoned, crispy, and yet still soft and tender on the inside, pancakes that are fluffy, and just that overall feeling that you've started your day with just an amazing meal. If you love that same experience, and you're in San Francisco, going to Lucho's is a must. Lucho's is my go to breakfast spot. It's small, busy, and once you taste their food, you'll see why people flock here for breakfast, brunch/lunch. The service is exceptional, and the staff is very welcoming. When you walk in, you're not seated until you order at the counter. Once you've ordered, paid, they will find a seat for you, or perhaps you'll be seated outside. The menu is filled with so many delicious items. You can pretty much close your eyes and point your finger at something, and it's guaranteed that you will have a really good meal. Chilaquiles- this is an absolute yes. You can order a half or a full order, and it absolutely is a shareable. I really appreciate the fact that there are add-on options, such as black beans, different proteins, and some other condiments. The way they wear the flavors, you're going to want it all, and you should have it! Eggs Benedict- this is also an absolute yes! The eggs are perfectly poached, the side of potatoes are delicious, and I love that the hollandaise sauce has Tapatio in it. It's a nice little kick and it really pulls all the different flavors together. The pancakes... Oh, those delicious pancakes... depending on the time of year, there are different offerings/flavors and it any given time there's at least three or four different flavors of pancakes to choose from. Some boozy, some fruity, but they're all damn delicious! They all are absolutely shareable as well. The breakfast burrito- this is one of the few items that I'm personally not fond of. I wanted to have much more protein in it, and I wanted it to be cheesy and gooey and it's just not for me. Four visits now, so I think I'm informed enough to write a decent review. This is a terrific neighborhood brunch. Cozy, friendly, tasty and carefully prepared. It's a big-ish menu, so I can only comment on these items: - Seasonal pancake. It's on the chalkboard. Just order it, whatever it is. One is plenty. My lord they're so good - fluffy but substantial, amazing fresh fruit taste, already sweetened to perfection (pre-syruped). - Chilaquiles. Apparently a house special. I'm no expert on this dish so I don't know if it's authentic but it's darn tasty. Even a half order should probably be shared. Get the egg and also some chicken pibil to complement. - Basic omelettes and egg plates. Competently prepared but seriously why aren't you ordering something more exciting? - quesabirria: amazing. But doesn't really fit my brunch mood so I just got it once. - Mexican coffee: sooo tasty, but almost too sweet. Power move: order one extra black coffee and share 50/50 with a friend. Yes, the restroom is a trek. Yes, the parklet can be chilly. But this is a neighborhood spot not a tourist-friendly one so all is forgiven. Best of all is the service. We stumbled in around 10-11 a.m. on a Sunday morning and even though there was a wait of over 30 minutes (it honestly flew by as I explored the area).The setup is unique you order before being seated but given the wait time it actually works perfectly and gives you plenty of time to decide what to get. Let's talk about the star of the show: the chilaquiles. They were amazing hands down some of the best I've ever had. My group ordered them three different ways and every version was delicious. I went with the standard sauce added beans, cheese, and an over-medium egg PURE perfection. My boyfriend's version came with birria, cilantro, onion, sour cream, and beans. The portion sizes are generous (Lucho's definitely doesn't skimp). I ordered a half portion and it was just perfect leaving me full but not overstuffed. A full order could easily be shared between two people unless you're really hungry. I paired my meal with a café de olla, which was rich and the perfect complement to the meal. My boyfriend had a michelada and it was spot on flavorful, balanced, and refreshing. What really stood out beyond the food was the owner's presence. I got the Polozé, and my other relative, who is also on the low spice tolerance, chose the 2 eggs any style dish. Yes, I took a bite of the Chilaquiles, and this was so surprising. I felt the spice, but it wasn't the intimidating painful spice that I have heard of from hot sauce stores. This was a delicate, a wonderful accent to boost the overall flavor of this dish. Wow, I was blown away, I can eat a dish with habanero pepper and I didn't drink down a whole cup of water; not even a sip. This restaurant has a cook with magic hidden in their sleeves. When I was deciding on what to order and was hesitant on ordering a dish with habanero, I was leaning between an avocado toast or the Pozolé, and I am so glad I chose the latter. I love soups, and this was absolutely delicious. First, each spoonful scoops up pieces of pork or vegetables. The broth is rich with pork and chilies, and this one wasn't spicy either. The staff were stars as well. Almost each one came by and asked how we were doing, checked for coffee seconds, and took away the eaten dishes. They were such lovely people and the food was truly amazing. This is a must-return restaurant to try other dishes. She gave us the rundown on the name of the restaurant which I thought endearing and only made me fall in love with this little gem even more. I had to order the cochinita pibil Benedict because it's cochinita with hollandaise sauce!! Both are my love language and now they're together!! This is the kind of cooking that is innovative, original, and comforting. Food that makes me feel good. The pork was savory deliciousness with perfectly poached eggs, and a hollandaise sauce I wanted to swim in. She was spot on with that hollandaise sauce. I take that sauce very seriously because it can make or break that whole dish. Frankly, there's a lot of restaurants that don't take it serious enough. Too many. If you can't make a good sauce or properly poached eggs then please do us all a favor and stop serving this dish. Luchos, please don't ever stop! The hot sauces on the table were excellent as well. The last few times I have been here, I have had the omlette special and an order of the pineapple upside down pancakes. To accompany the meal, also have a cup of their Mexican coffee. The portions are hearty and tasty. My go to is always the pineapple pancakes and Mexican coffee. I just moved to Ingleside from San Jose, and have been looking for local businesses to check out and support. This place is the SPOT for brunch. Open early, they were fully packed with a waitlist at 9:15 am. I knew I had found a hot-spot. I came to treat myself to a Valentine's Day breakfast before going to work for an expected crazy shift in Burlingame, and I decided to take out so I could enjoy my food at home. The flavors were pretty one note with the potatoes tasting more like boiled potatos than "home potatos" and the cochinita pibil wasn't heavy flavored enough to carry the potato & egg mixture. The tortilla was good and the toasted it nicely. Their hot sauce which i presume is homemade was separated and the container they supplied with the burrito contained about a ketchup packets worth of sauce. The staff seemed friendly enough but service was a bit lacking. They took my order and said 10 minutes which is fine but turned out to be closer to 25 minutes for a takeout breakfast burrito. All in all I'd prolly give them another chance one day but not in a rush to spend $18 for a mid breakfast burrito. Hopefully it was just an off day. read more
