We've been going to HLS since the day it opened (under different ownership). Just my opinion, but I think the new owners haven't done the restaurant any favors - what's supposed to be a seafood place now has some random Italian side menu, they took away great bar tables and put in a cake display case and serving area, and it just never feels very clean. All of which we could get over if the food had retained the same quality - we've ordered the same HLS salad with grilled chicken for takeout for the past several years and tonight's delivery was the worst one yet. The grilled chicken was overcooked, dry, and some of the pieces were almost to the point of turning into jerky. The buttermilk vinaigrette used to actually be a vinaigrette and now was a mayonnaise based vinegary something. So incredibly disappointed. I've been intrigued by this place for some time and has always wanted to stop by and give them a try! I decided to try out their lunch and got their grouper sandwich fried with Brussels sprouts. I came across this place while dining at a neighboring location and made it a point to return since I love seafood. To say the least, this restaurant did not disappoint! I ended up coming back twice in one day! The location is in a small apartment complex and shopping village. If you're not familiar with this area, you can always walk around and see what all there is to offer. The restaurant is very nice and similar to other seafood places you've tried. They also have very cozy outdoor seating. Our server was really sweet but I must say, his appearance was a little disheveled as he looked tired and I don't think he had planned to serve, but since we came earlier during the day, the restaurant was not at full capacity with other servers. Nevertheless, he was super sweet and super attentive to our table. There are so many options on their menu that it's hard to decide what to get. For our appetizers, we choose the hush puppies and She Crab soup. Wowzers is all I can say. It was phenomenal. The soup was really rich and creamy and packed with lump crab meat. It was awesome. I almost ordered another serving but decided to hold off. Our entrées were the Lobster Roll and Crab Cake sandwich. We paired it with grilled corn on the cob and grilled Brussel Sprouts. Although the sprouts are generally boiled, our server requested for them to be grilled. They were delicious. Both sandwiches were extremely delicious. I used to LOVE this place. I literally would come specifically for the lobster nachos. I hadn't been here in over a year and was excited to come back. Well, I don't know if they are under new ownership/management or not, but some changes have been made. Starting with no longer offering the lobster nachos. It's now blackened shrimp nachos. And whereas they taste OK, they are nowhere near as good as the lobster. Not even close. So if you never had the lobster nachos then it won't make a difference. But if you have, be prepared for a big disappointment. And overall the food just tasted kind of cheap. I don't know any other way to describe it. This is probably the worst unseasoned seafood I've had in my life. I ordered the combo number two which comes with 1/2 pound of unseasoned shrimp and a leg of unseasoned crabs. We finally gave it a try because Scoutmob offers an amazing deal - 50% off up to $20 for dinner. Surprisingly, it's love at first sight and I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I'd describe the decor as simple but chic. Wife thought it looks charming and inviting. Staffs are super friendly. I ordered the following dishes: Peel and Eat Shrimp and Crab Cake. I absolutely love the shrimps: fresh, sweet, juicy, plumb, and huge. What makes it head and shoulders above the other peel and eat shrimps (usually blant OR way too salty) is the seasoning - just the right saltiness and SPICY!!. I'm not sure what kind of chilli they use, but it compliments the sweetness of the shrimps and the dipping sauces (cocktail sauce & bloody mary mayo) very well. One advice though: due to the overpowering flavor, it's best to eat the shrimp last, otherwise, you might not be able to taste other dishes. Crab cakes are great too - almost all crab with minimal filler, perfect crisp on the outside, moist on the inside.The cole slaw that comes with it is tasty too. I tasted the She-crab Soup and Lobster Mac and Cheese that wife ordered and like it a lot. It has the perfect creaminess combined with sweet flavor of the crab....yuuuum....The mac and cheese is good, not great. However, it has so much lobster that you get a chunk of it in every bite. Beer selection is pretty impressive. There are about 20-25types of beers (on tap, bottled, and can). Best thing about beer on tap is that there are three sizes to choose from. They also have daily specials and happy hour (Monday through Friday). Needless to say, we love our meal so much that we're planning a birthday party here next week. I must admit, I didn't have high expectations of this place. But it wasn't bad at all. hook line and schooner (all lower case) took over the place where Crepe Revolution used to be. It is the sister restaurant of McCray's, Cosmo Lava, and The Mill. The menu has mostly seafood. If you hate seafood and your friends made you come here, don't worry. They have other, non-seafood items as well such as smoked turkey and burgers. Like the name implies, it's all about the seafood. We tried half dozen of their Blue Point Oysters. It came with cocktail sauce, horseradish, and cilantro mignonette. The oysters were fresh and delicious. I loved the condiments too. I wished I ordered a whole dozen of this, not half. I tried their lobster Roll. It came on a nice, toasted bun. It was okay. It was too small and bland. It did come with melted butter. That helped with the flavor a bit. But I think they needed something extra to make it taste like something. The lobsters tasted fresh though. It wasn't a bad lobster roll. I wished it was bigger, meatier, and more flavorful. Their fries tasted good. Their cole slaw tasted good. Their hush puppies tasted good. The hushpuppies tasted like they had a bit of heat to them. Or maybe it was leftovers from the cocktail sauce. Whatever it was, I liked it. Their Mahi Mahi sandwich is a messy sandwich to eat. For some reason, the bun disintegrated fast. Instead of using shredded lettuce, they should've used a whole lettuce on the bottom to protect the bottom bun from the liquids. Also, I think they should toast the bun as well. It could improve the sandwich. The Po Boy was okay. This was hard to eat. There's no way to hold it like a real sandwich and eat it. All the contents spilled out. It looked good when it came out, but it was another small sandwich. It felt like it was mostly bread instead of shrimp. I liked the sandwich though. On Thursday nights, they have 50 cent Gulf Oysters and .75 Blue Point Oysters. So that's the night to go have some cheap oysters. I liked this place. I only came here because of the Atlanta dining passbook. My boyfriend and I both had the Lobster Pasta on the specials menu. I personally thought it was a little salty, but he liked it. We shared some complaints with Management, and Nick responded right away. The food got to the table very quickly, and I was never wanting for more water.'' Last note. Try the cheesecake. It is a pillar of cake. I'm pretty sure each cake only makes 5 slices. For 9 bucks a slice (comparable to the Cheesecake factory) you get enough cake for 6. I'm not sure if our piece was a fluke, but we ended up taking our piece home and have shared this cheesecake everyday (going on day 3 now with no end in sight). HLS is new to the Vinings area. It sits unnoticed behind Starbucks and next to Zama. Parking isn't the best in the area but there's parking available. We arrived on Sunday around 1pm and ordered from the Sunday Brunch menu(I added a picture of) which includes $4 mimosas. We were sat immediately, they have outdoor seating as well, that was a plus. The waitress greeted us with the most delicious warm strudel blueberry muffins. The muffins tasted like they came fresh out the oven and we later found out they were free. I ordered the Blue Plate $9 because I wanted to try to grits. My ordered the lobster roll and my daughter ordered the lump crab cake Benedict. My eggs were cooked perfectly and so were the grits! I love grits and I didn't have to add anything to them I could just eat them. That was an A+ for me! The Crab Cake Benedict was perfect as well, the eggs were poached perfectly and the crab cakes were fresh and delicious! Location and parking: There's a parking garage two streets over and also ample street parking. It is across from boutique stores as well so you can do some window shopping if desired. Food: great tip : they have lunch specials every day of the week including weekends, from 11am-4pm. The lunch portions are huge and really reasonable in price. Also 4$ bloody marys and mimosas over the weekends, all day! I ordered the chicken parmesan, and it was delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection, a light crunch on the outside and tender inside. The sauce on top of the chicken was packed with garlic which is such a great plus for me because I can't get enough of it. It was topped with mozzarella but just enough of it which didn't make the dish greasy. Pasta was cooked al dente :D Service: We were seated immediately, and the server was pretty attentive. She came to refill our drinks and check on us periodically. Price: The lunch specials are priced between 10-12$ which is a really good deal by itself as you have plenty of food leftover. I think the only thing that I didn't like was the cole slaw, but it didn't play a huge factor in me liking this spot. Also had the west coast charbroiled oysters, and they too were served hot... To Whom It May Concern: On February 5, 2020 around 8:00 pm I met a friend for an evening dinner to socialize. We walked into the restaurant and was not greeted by the host. The restaurant is very quite and intimate on a Wednesday night and they also offer 1/2 on bottles of wine for all my winos out there. Our server arrived to the booth to greet us and to get our drink orders which was very prompt. We were able to give her our entree orders as well being we viewed the menu online before arriving. I ordered the Caesar salad with blackened salmon and my partner got stuffed shrimp that comes with roasted potatoes and broccoli. Entrees arrived within 10-15 minutes, but our server was not very attentive on refilling our drInks while we were talking. As I stated earlier, we met to socialize so after 2 minutes of talking a refill was needed. The food was delivered to the table and finally a refill was completed. We sat at the table eating and enjoying each other conversation until the last bite on both plates was all gone. Minutes later the servers arrives with the check not asking all together or separate, but I'm usually not the one paying but the courtesy of asking would have been nice. The server sat the check down and returned back to the kitchen. We continued enjoying the ambience and catching up on our conversation. Within three minutes, the server comes back to pick up the check, without my friend having time to put the credit card in the book. She then sat it back down and then returned to the kitchen. A couple minutes later an older lady comes and pick up the check book without a credit card in it. My friend finally said, I guess you are wanting me to pay now! It was 8:57 pm and the restaurant didn't close until 10:00pm. The sense of urgency is high when they want you to pay but when it comes to greeting at the front door and refills is a big area of opportunity for this establishment. The chef in the back did a great job on the presentation of the food and the taste was phenomenal. If possible, please make sure your staff is inviting and attentive to all guest from open to close. The oysters were meaty and so delicious. We also couldn't stop eating the crab dip. It comes with crispy chips and grilled bread. We were intimidated by the size for just the two of us but it was light and 90% crab meat. Highly recommend both. For entrées we had the fish and chips and sauuted scallops with roasted brussel sprouts. The tartar sauce and seasoning on the fries were, again, addicting. The batter on the fish was light but crispy. The scallops were simple but probably one of the best I've had at any seafood place in atlanta (better than rays). The brussel sprouts are another quick favorite. We wanted the try the bread pudding but were too full. We will be back soon to try it and others on the menu. We started out getting a dozen oysters and the tuna dip. Both were very fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the dirty martini! Made perfectly! Next we all had one of the fresh fish selections, grilled. I wanted to take my niece Cara, her husband Phil and teenage sons Hill and Noah, both athletes and good eaters to a restaurant they liked. We wound up at Hook Line and Schooner Coastal Tavern. Despite the "Tavern" designation it is a very family friendly restaurant with an extensive menu and a casual atmosphere with very helpful service. I was tempted by and ordered the "She Crab Soup" which was creamy with a mellow flavor, but only tiny pieces of crab (not certain if the pieces were male or female). I had decided against the Manhattan Seafood Chowder, as I was visiting from Long Island, where I can get that anytime. Actually, it was a mistake as the Chowder my brother-in-Law Zach had was delicious filled with fresh seafood and a tasty tomato broth. My fish Taco was as good as the best I have had and everyone else was very satisfied with what they had ordered. read more
