Popular spot, friendly staff and solid sushi. The two of us came on a Fri night just after 6:30PM and it was going to be an hour wait. We decided to stick it out and it ended up being over an hour before being sat. The seating is a little confusing as it's in both their restaurant and in the coffee shop attached. We started with the Sea Salt Edamame ($7) and it was well prepared. Our roll sushi selections were Black & Yellow ($17), Easy Rider ($18) and Sol ($19). They were all solid with Sol being our favorite. Also enjoyed the Mad Midas Crush IPA ($7) they had on tap. Service from Lucy and the entire staff was super friendly!

Every time I'm in town visiting my boyfriend we come eat here. I have taken friends who have visited as well and they are always so impressed! I love the ocean trout!! We always try to sit at the bar and order Omakase. Truly never disappointed and the staff is always so friendly. They just updated their happy hour for the new year as well.

My fiancé and I have been searching for a great sushi spot in the area and we've found it! We sat at the sushi bar and really enjoyed everything we ordered. Started with the edamame with garlic oil & salt. We ordered 3 special rolls which are in the picture below. We also had a spicy salmon and eel roll. All of the sushi was delicious and very fresh! The service was wonderful as well. The waitress was very friendly and gave us great recommendations on food & drinks. The food came out pretty quick even though they were busy. Hooked will definitely be our go to for sushi! Definitely check it out next time you're downtown. You won't be disappointed!

    Entrance from Zocalo

We went to Zocalo for coffee and a quick bite. Everything was great. We decided in the evening to head back tor he Japanese spot next door. We didn't realize Zocalo gets converted to the Japanese restaurant as well. Genius! We did t have a reservation but got seated right away. We had their specials, miso soup, 3 additional roles and the kiddo got mochi ice cream. Everything was delicious! The owner for both places were on point, impressed and enjoyed both. We didn't know we would be visiting the same place twice but so impressed by two different worlds being amazing on quality and execution on everything. Thanks for a great visit and we'll be back when we come back to Yosemite! Thanks for a memorable meal with my family.

I was blown away by the service I received last night. Our servers name was Kelly. She was very knowledgeable about all the dishes, gave us excellent recommendations when we told her what we liked, and she was super attentive as well. She was just the best. Her customer service skills really enhanced our overall experience. Now on to the food!! Delicious!! Kudos to the chef. Everything was fresh and well made! We had a desserts-Mochi which was delicious too!!

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here - has been consistently great sushi! Staff is very friendly, professional, courteous and attentive to their customers. Truly appreciate being treated like a person rather than just another customer to get a tip from. On the pricier side to eat here. However, he entire experience is worth every penny you'll spend! We each changed up our rolls, and our server didn't get an attitude, as most will when you make any changes. She was wonderful and got everything right - the first time! This is a must visit restaurant if you like sushi. You'll be so glad you did.

Hands down the best sushi in Montana!! Creative rolls and sashimi that accent the Montana lifestyle and the distinct flavors of the fresh seafood they serve. I always have the 'Make it Fancy' sashimi and have never been disappointed. The rotating variety of rolls is always a pleasant treat as well. Pictured here is a 'Make it Fancy' plate of sashimi and two top rolls. The rolls, "Johhny Ringo" is a tempura fried roll filled with spicy ahi, the "Mescalito" is a special treat of grilled shrimp and grilled hamachi that send you straight to a back yard grill in Hawaii!! With an amazing staff, talented chefs and a desire to make every meal the best experience you've ever had, this is the place to be in Bozeman, Montana!! When you visit, ask them to make it fancy and enjoy the surprises these amazing chefs deliver.

Is it currently closed (July 2020)? Made a reservation via yelp but when we went to the restaurant it was closed but no sign on the door. The door still has a sign showing open days/hours and we went during open hours.

The Roasted Beet Salad was cool, refreshing, and a perfect complement to the appetizer. For my main course, I had the Catch of the Day--Sea Bass--prepared with Thai-inspired flavors. It was outstanding. I never would have believed jasmine rice could be prepared in such a savory and flavorful way. Every bite was exceptional. My date ordered the Lobster and Grits and absolutely loved it. Our servers were attentive, knowledgeable, and offered robust wine pairing recommendations that complemented each course perfectly. We finished the evening with a delicious selection of desserts, which was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. We dined on the patio, and the atmosphere was absolutely delightful. From start to finish, every aspect of the experience exceeded our expectations. Without question, this was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Bozeman, and I can't wait to come back.

To start, we had the daily ceviche, which was a salmon ceviche with a bright citrus marinade, garnished with oranges and served alongside crispy wonton crackers. It was fresh, light, and a perfect way to kick off the meal. Next, we shared the hot crab dip, which was rich, warm, and packed with flavor. Served with grilled bread, it was the kind of dish you keep dipping back into because it's just that good. For our main dish, we shared the Brown Butter Scallops -- prosecco salt dusted scallops served with arugula pesto, herb mushrooms, and bacon & butternut squash arancini. The scallops themselves were perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful, but the real standout on the plate was the arancini. Crispy on the outside with a rich, savory filling of bacon and butternut squash, it paired beautifully with the rest of the dish and completely stole the show. The entire meal was beautifully plated and thoughtfully prepared. The only small note is that the restaurant can get a bit loud when it's full, which can make conversation with your dinner companion slightly harder. That said, the lively atmosphere shouldn't stop you from enjoying a meal here. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience. If you go, do not skip the bacon and butternut squash arancini--it was the absolute star of the dish and truly sensational.

Both visits have been positive overall, with excellent steaks, very good service, and several memorable dishes. That said, our most recent experience fell a little short of what I would expect from one of Bozeman's premier upscale steakhouses in terms of atmosphere. We had a 5:45pm reservation and were seated in a comfortable booth near the front of the restaurant, adjacent to the bar. We started with the fried calamari, which we had also ordered on our previous visit. Unfortunately, this time it was disappointing. There was far too much batter and very little actual calamari. Given how much we enjoyed it previously, perhaps this was simply an off night. The steaks, however, were excellent. My wife ordered the 8-ounce filet and I had the 16-ounce prime strip, both medium rare. Both arrived properly prepared and were flavorful, tender, and delicious. We shared the loaded baked potato and fried Brussels sprouts. The portions were generous and both sides were excellent, particularly the Brussels sprouts with caramelized bacon and small pieces of Granny Smith apple. Service was another highlight. Our waiter, Jordan, was attentive, prompt, and thorough throughout the evening. The additional wait staff were equally conscientious and friendly. My primary reservation concerns the atmosphere. Being seated next to the bar naturally meant more noise, and two nearby tables became particularly loud as the evening progressed. Obviously, a restaurant has limited control over the volume of individual guests, and I also take responsibility for not mentioning when making the reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary. Next time, I'll request a quieter table toward the rear of the dining room. I was also somewhat surprised by how casual the dress standards are. One of the things I appreciate about living in Montana is its relaxed, unpretentious character, and I certainly don't expect formal attire everywhere. My wife and I enjoy getting dressed up when indulging in fine dining, and while we don't expect everyone to arrive in suits and ties or dresses, we do anticipate a level of dress and decorum somewhat above everyday casual. J.W. Heist presents itself as an upscale steakhouse, and an evening for two can easily exceed $200. Seeing shorts and several baseball caps in the dining room--including backwards caps--detracts somewhat from the elevated atmosphere I would expect at that price point. Casual attire in the bar area makes perfect sense, but I think a modest dress standard in the main dining room would help distinguish the experience and make special occasions feel a little more special. Overall, we've enjoyed both of our visits. The quality of the steaks and sides has been excellent, the service has been consistently very good, and we would recommend J.W. Heist to others. We will likely return as well. I simply think a few refinements to the dining-room atmosphere would bring the overall experience more in line with the quality of the food, service, and price point.

The food looks like Korean food, but it does not taste very real or strong. Many dishes feel plain and not very exciting. One thing that stands out is the banchan, which are small side dishes. At most Korean restaurants, these come free with your meal. Here, you have to pay for them as a "flight." This feels strange and not like a true Korean dining experience. The soups are also disappointing. They look good, but the broth does not have much flavor. It tastes weak and a little bland. The tofu in the soup is not very good either. It does not have the soft texture that Korean tofu usually has. The service is fine, and the restaurant is clean and nice enough. But the food is just average. It is not bad, but it is not great either. The other Korean place in town isn't great either but still better.

My waitress, once she came to the table, was incredibly nice and did check in a few times - not overly so like some can do. I appreciated that. I did order the burger medium and it came out medium well to well, but I attribute that to bison cooking quicker and it really didn't matter to me anyway. Burger was good. Fries were good. I contemplated dessert, but the cookie they serve with the ice cream is oatmeal, but I was told they have a brownie and ice cream option. Sign me up! The waitress brought it out a little later, the brownie nice and warm. It was good. No complaints. This place is t great, but it is good and the food is less expensive than some of the options I had around here. I'd definitely go back if I am in the area again. I might even have to try to get some bison meat at home.
