Mediocre food. We all know Bozeman ain't known for their culinary scene and this is a great example of it. I-ho is not very special. The food looks like Korean food, but it does not taste very real or strong. Many dishes feel plain and not very exciting. One thing that stands out is the banchan, which are small side dishes. At most Korean restaurants, these come free with your meal. Here, you have to pay for them as a "flight." This feels strange and not like a true Korean dining experience. The soups are also disappointing. They look good, but the broth does not have much flavor. It tastes weak and a little bland. The tofu in the soup is not very good either. It does not have the soft texture that Korean tofu usually has. The service is fine, and the restaurant is clean and nice enough. But the food is just average. It is not bad, but it is not great either. The other Korean place in town isn't great either but still better. read more

The experience is fun, the food is very tasty, and you're not really waiting for your order to make its rounds through the kitchen...because you cook it all yourself! The only caveat is you definitely need to call and make a reservation. Don't expect to walk-in and be able to get the experience, it's often booked and tables are limited. The people here are lovely. We came in mid-afternoon so it was in-between shifts for servers, so service took a while. We were not in a hurry. It was my husband's birthday, so we opted for the BBQ, and grilled the meat ourselves. We started with kimchi pancakes and those were quite good. I liked the cucumber salad and the sauce that came with. We had short ribs ( flanken style), pork belly, and bulgogi. We went to I‑Ho expecting to barbecue meats at our table, but the restaurant only has a few grill tables and they were all taken. My wife and I both switched to pork dishes, only to learn from the server that they had stopped buying pork because it doesn't sell well and the new menus hadn't been printed yet. All of this probably primed us for the disappointment that followed. My wife ordered jjajang, which should have been a treat. Although jjajang is popular in Korea, it doesn't appear on many Korean restaurant menus in the U.S. because Koreans think of it as a Chinese dish, even though the Chinese analogue, zha jiang mian, is actually quite different. Jjajang is a noodle dish with a variety of ingredients, but what makes it distinctive is the musky flavor and black color of the fermented beans that form the base of the sauce. The jjajang at I‑Ho certainly looked right, but it lacked the deep umami flavor, turning what should have been a memorable dish into an ordinary one. I ordered the Dak‑Go‑Gi‑Bob and asked for a spice level of 4. The problem was that they apparently spiced the dish with chili powder. That seems logical enough, but the chili powder, while amping up the heat, also changed the flavor profile in an unpleasant way. A more authentic and better approach would have been to adjust the heat with more gochujang. I was also surprised to see banchan on the appetizer menu for $8. When I lived in Korea, I never once had to pay extra for banchan. I understand the business logic - if I‑Ho doesn't include banchan with the entrées, they can charge less for the main dishes - but it still felt very un‑Korean to me. I'm giving the restaurant three stars partly out of kindness and partly because I don't want to rate it lower based on a single visit. That said, our experience was below the American average for Korean restaurants, and the food did not deliver the bold, delicious flavors I enjoyed in Korea. read more

This place was GREAT!! We came in on a Tuesday night before the rodeo. They were BUSY and we were starving but the food was worth the wait and delicious. There were about 3 servers getting drinks and meals out tag teaming the process. We got the Bin Dae Duk pancakes as an app. I got the teriyaki chicken, my daughter got the JaJang Myeon and my wife got the Ramen. The service is great. The beef was little bit on a brunt side and didn't have much meat, the favor was good just not what I'm used to for Korean food. Friendly and attentive service. We were seated quickly and the food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. However, I am Korean, and I can tell you this is the most NOT authentic Korean food my family and I have ever had anywhere in the world. We only ordered three dishes so my review is based solely on the three dishes we ordered. The best I can call it is Korean fusion of some sorts. It makes me pretty sad that people are trying Korean food for the first time here and thinking this is authentically prepared Korean dishes. The cost is high for what you get and the ingredients that were used in each dish. Also, most Korean restaurants will offer side dishes for free with any order and a this restaurant, you have to pay for that. I am not saying the food for horrible, but after tasting the three dishes ordered, I can tell you it is far from authentic. read more

The bibimbap and noodle dishes are really good, and the service is attentive. I tried the spicy wings and they were cooked through but not crispy, so they weren't very pleasant to eat. Our food was delicious! We did not know what to order and the server was very helpful in making a decision. I-ho had passed only 2 weeks before we visited and there were photos and flowers everywhere in her honor. It was very sweet and welcoming it seems as though she was a very highly respected member of the community. We enjoyed our visit here very much. I got the John special and we got the spicy seafood ramen. Both were delicious! Portions were quite large so the value was great. It was not too busy but they had a good crowd and there were lots of to go orders being picked up as well. The table next to us were doing the Korean BBQ which looks amazing! I've been to I-Hos a couple times and they never disappoint! This time my partner and I went for their infamous happy hour, which is on Fridays 3-5PM and only $12 a person. The amount of food you receive for the amount you pay is absurd (in a good way)! The cucumber salad was my favorite from everything offered, but runner ups were the Stir-fry chicken and the wontons. The service was speedy; the waitress made sure we were set on refills. Overall, an amazing place and an amazing experience, we will be back! read more

Their menu has enough variety so everyone can find something they like. The doenjang-jjigae, soybean paste stew was so flavorful and easily the best meal during our stay in Montana. It was packed with veggies and tofu and was well seasoned. The employees are friendly, even with how busy they were. There are tables of all sizes for groups or individuals. I was walking thru Bozeman main street and came upon this quaint korean place located behind a home (the owners' home I found out later). I was delighted to walk in and see all these printed accolades and articles about them and their food and knew I found the right place for lunch ... and once I saw they serve their food in traditional korean stainless steel bowls and provide stainless steel chopsticks I became giddy and couldnt wait to get my order. Ehhh... late lunch on 8/3/24. Service : really really really slow. Maybe they were short staffed. Not sure. Ordered "Korean Coffee" and Yaki Mandu (Korean pot stickers). Neither ever arrived. I ordered the teriyaki chicken, rice, cucumber salad. Needed salt. Chicken was very dry. Rice was cold. Best part was cucumbers, which I dumped on the rice to try to give it even the slightest flavor. Wife ordered Korean beef ribs (Gal-bi-bop), with noodles and cucumber salad. Noodles were cold. Must have sat on counter too long. Food came out before the appetizer and drink, which never came. After food was delivered, we were never checked on again, asked if everything was ok, or basically anything. If we had cash, we would have just let cash and walked. Came here with a group of 8 expecting Korean food but.. Korean chicken wings isn't exactly what you expect - they're not crispy at all. Soon du bu.. has no du bu (tofu) which is literally in their name lol. I guess we just got Soon. Kimchi fried rice - was a little on the salty side and didn't have much kimchi flavour. Seafood pancake and tofu Kim chi pancakes were actually pretty good and one of their better items. Dumplings - crispy and has all the right flavours. Service is slow just because there were 2 waitresses for the entire full house restaurant. Our servers were really nice and tried their best to accommodate our requests. I ordered the combo plate ($13.50) with noodles with bulgogi with Korean fried chicken as my side. The noodles were slightly dry without mixing it with some of the oil that was on the bottom of the plate but it was okay. The bulgogi was decent although I wish there was more meat as it was more veggies. The Korean fried chicken was definitely not fried and not what I imagined when I saw Korean fried chicken; it was more chicken that was marinated in some soy sauce base. This isn't the best Korean food I've had but in a time when I have been eating mostly American food like burgers and pizzas it was nice to eat Asian food for a change and satisfy that craving. read more

Atmosphere: you can definitely miss this place because it's located a bit behind the actual buildings on the street. We parked right in front and found a sign that led us to the back. It feels like such a homey place. The door to the kitchen is open so you can sometimes see I-ho walking back and forth preparing the meals! Everyone was friendly, what I loved was that this was a true family owned establishment and they were so appreciative of you coming to eat there. Food/price: the menu is pretty extensive, and this is supposedly a shortened version (lol). Being in MT, their supply for some Korean ingredients is very limited (they told us they had to drive all the way to salt lake city to get rice cakes for one of their dishes), so for what they can afford to get their hands on - the food was pretty good. My husband and I shared: - Gal bi bob ($22): BBQ beef short rib with either steamed rice, fried rice or noodles. You also get a choice of kimchi or cucumber salad. The marinade on the short rib was excellent. They gave us so much meat, and I really liked that they were relatively thin as well because it was packed with so much flavor. You can really taste the char on this. We opted for the noodle - which I think was yaki soba noodles? My first time seeing this on a Korean menu - it's not a typical noodle that you see. Not very strong flavors, but that's okay because you need to balance out the meat - Uk Gae Jang ($14): beef, sweet potato noodles, vegetables served in a stone bowl with a side of rice. The cut of beef isn't the traditional one you see in the soup but it's okay. We got it a spicy level of 4 and it wasn't spicy. Honestly, this didn't taste like the traditional dish I'm used to but it wasn't bad. Definitely warmed me up. - Korean chicken wings ($13): ten wings cooked in a soy based sauce with rice. Just so everyone knows, these wings are braised and not fried. If you've ever had adobo it tastes very similar! - Ban chan ($7): ours came with spinach, kimchi, and cucumber salad I'm 100% about supporting small businesses. After having talked to the owner (I-ho) and her daughter, I could tell they've really built such a loving restaurant. I would highly recommend, definitely get their gal bi! read more

We stopped at Bozeman and were attracted to this place by its reviews. Unfortunately , it's indeed a very disappointing experience we have with I-Ho's. I don't usually give review below 4 stars unless it's unreasonable. 1) We came with our dog because we saw there is an outdoor seating. The servers told us they were short staffed, so there is no outdoor seating. But there were only 3 tables with 6 people dinning served by 2 servers at that point. It's totally within the servers' capacity to serve us outdoor. 2) They charged us for 15% of gratitude for to-go. This might be the first time we have ever experienced so far. Why will you force people to pay you when you can't provide the service? You could have at least earned it by providing an outdoor seating area. This is the unreasonable part that has got us really frustrated. The food in general is good. But it loses its original taste for taking out, such as Bi Bim Bah without the stone bowl. Added: seeing other reviews, looks like the additional tips are not a particular case to us. They have also charged others without permission. Perhaps the owner should consider raising wages for the servers, before it got into legal issues. read more
