Reaching airport parking, upon starting to back into a space, the gearshift froze. I could not yank it free, and repeatedly pushing the clutch did nothing. It was in a forward position, I was halfway into the space, and I needed to finish backing in. Finally, though, deciding I could not simply stay there; as the gearshift was forward, I started off. The car backed up, though, Into the space! Fine for now, I went and caught my flight. Returning a week later, I pulled up Yelp and submitted three assistance requests. Hooten's Mobile Mechanics replied within minutes; the other two, not for over 24 hours. After dealing with a finicky GPS, Shannon was there a half hour later. I'm leaving 2 stars bc he seemed to be knowledgeable, and was responsive. However, I paid him $150 for absolutely nothing. I paid for the $40 (excluding tax) appointment fee. He showed up around 1:50 and gave me a quote for $460+ dollars to change my spark plus and ignition coils. After speaking w my dad and others they told me that was way too much and that it should not take 3 hrs to complete. So, within 15min of receiving my quote I told him I wouldn't need his services. He told me he still has to charge a $100 service fee which after now reading the cancellation agreement I do not see that anywhere in the policy. If he charged for ~30 min of his time that would be about $45. I have attached all correspondence. The call log shows he arrived at 1:50 and the texts show I canceled by 2:15. I'm not seeing how someone can charge $161 (including tax) for less than 20 min of an interaction. Extremely frustrating. read more

I received a prompt response when I requested an estimate for service. Very courteous and patient with walking me thru the process. The estimate was in the neighborhood of what I expected, so I booked the service. Shannon was on time and very nice. Because of some other unexpected issues, the repair took twice as long as it should have. I feel like Shannon was more than fair in the final cost of service. I called the number asking about an oil change. The person who answered told us to book online. We booked a 10 am slot, about an hour since the time we called. Online you have to pay $30 to reserve the appointment. There was no warning or disclaimer so I figured this was a deposit, and the owner said the person who made the website was supposed to make a button that ensures the customer read the appointment policy. The mechanic finally arrived at 1:20 or so, almost 3.5 hours after the appointment time. He looked at the car and gave an estimate of $180, in addition to the $30 appointment cost. He reduced it to $150 because he thought we were outside of Davidson but we weren't. Still $180 for an oil change. I still don't understand the $30 non-refundable cost for within Davidson. From one end of the city to the other, that would be max $10-$15 in gas. This comes from someone who travels for work. The owner is nice but I absolutely would not recommend unless it were a dire emergency. He left around 3:20, so all in all, I wasted a lot of my day staying home and waiting for an oil change based on a couple of positive reviews posted on the website. I should've rejected the service once I got the invoice, but I didn't know the $30 wasn't towards the deposit until he was already done. It's essentially a scam to charge everyone two $30 fees for parts/travel when not all jobs require the same things and are the same distance away. That's why milage reimbursement calculations exist. I highly recommend Shannon Hooten as a mechanic and person! He is extremely knowledgeable, honest and very fast on his repair work! LOL...he is very tall and very skinny so his arm span can reach the width of a car without having to use a creeper or jacks. (Of course when he is working, he uses the jacks as needed.)
