Hoovers' service costs our outrageous. They are deceptively hiding the start-up costs from customers. You have to pay $89 before they will come to your house. When they come to the house and give you a final cost to pay. Your cost + $89.00. They charged total $355.00 for a simple replacement of hardware in toilet tank. Then they wanted to charge $3,000 for capping an outdoor spigget. We decided not to use them for the latter as the cost was just obscenely high. Had them out on a few occasions for HVAC, etc. Techs always seem competent and professional. had my furnace inspected- 79 bucks. Tech says all is good but need a new Pad (filter) for my whole house humidifier. Quoted 502 dollars. It's a 15 dollar filter at Lowe's! Ask how long it would take.. " couple minutes". Are you kidding me!! I was in such shock I just politely said no thanks I'll take care of it. Had a similar outrageous quote on replacing my water heater last from them last year. read more

I needed the pipe from my sump pump replaced. Pretty straightforward job. Maybe 1 to 2 hours of labor and approx. $20 to $30 in materials.I was happy with the professionalism of how they set up their appointments and notified me by text that Kevin the plumber was on his way. He looked things over and diagnosed the problem very quickly. He was very pleasant and courteous. He told me that he would go out to his truck and formulate a quote for me. I had a figure of about $400 in my head. Kevin came back with a quote for $600. I was a a little taken aback by this quote, but decided that I wanted to get the repair over with, because I had sold the house and needed to get the repair done before closing. I told Kevin to go ahead with the work, and he told me that he would be back in two days to get it done. This gave me time to think, and I decided that I was being ripped off. I called another plumber. He gave me the same diagnosis as Kevin, however his quote was $400 less than the quote from Kevin at Hoover. Needless to say I cancelled my appointment with Hoover. This is really unbelievable, because I am a returning customer. I've worked with Hoover twice before. Apparently Hoover doesn't understand the the cost of customer acquisition or the 80-20 rule that I teach in my marketing classes. 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers, and those 20% are your returning customers. Hoover fixed my plumbing problem. My complaint is with their business practices. I noticed an online offer for "any drain cleared" for $89. I called and was told the offer only applied to drains cleared on the "main floor," not the basement. Their guy showed up and, sure enough, he snaked the drain from below my kitchen sink on the main floor. I mentioned the $89 offer and he said it only applies to clogs within 5 feet of the sink. In actuality, I believe the clog was within 5 feet of the sink, but how could I prove that? I'm guessing nobody has ever gotten to use that $89 offer. In the end, I paid $200 for a 15-minute job that I believe should have cost me $89. I won't get fooled again. read more

I contacted Hoover via chat on their website on a very hot summer Fri at about 5:30 -5:45 PM with A/C compressor not working. I explained I have asthma and needed service that night. If no one was available, I would understand and keep looking but I needed an answer. "Gary" assured me I could get service that night and asked for my contact info and address. Five (5) hours later I contacted the company via chat again asking why I hadn't been contacted yet and to confirm someone was still coming, I was informed they didn't have after hour service available. The woman was extremely apologetic for Gary's behavior but that was little help. If this "Gary" had just told me the truth, I would have continued to try to reach someone to repair my A/C. The company's website should also clearly state that they don't provide after-hours service. And Gary should be fired, read more

Extremely high, and non transparent pricing. Would not tell me how much was for parts and how much was labor. Would not give an hourly rate for labor, but I was billed $355.00 for three guys who could not figure out what was wrong, then lied about part availability. I wrote a bad review a few days ago regarding my overcharge quote for a Kohler kitchen faucet. Well, today I received a call from the General Manager, Marcus, and what a very pleasant surprise. He read the review and checked into the price and agreed it was high. With further checking with the tech, he realized that he quoted us the wrong brand of faucet. And for our trouble, he is refunding the monies we paid for the service call. He explained the problem and apologized for the error. This means a lot to me and has renewed my faith in Hoover Electric. To take the trouble to make a phone call to me and then offer me a refund, shows they care about their customers and reputation. The process was fine, and the electrician was very professional, however their prices are absolutely INSANE. I kept careful track of how long the technician was at my house, and my bill came out to OVER $350 per hour. Parts (which were minimal) were additional on top of that. Grotesquely overpriced! I had them out to look at a hot water heater that was not working. I was given two options, 1. Fix it for $750, 1. Replace it for $1,950. Having been in the rental property business for some time, I knew that was a ridiculous price. I called someone else and had the water heater replaced for $850. Truly disgusted with the level of professionalism and service provided. We have been having issues with our AC unit and furnace and, unfortunately, discovered that our furnace needed to be replaced and couldn't be repaired. Since Hoover came out to look at the furnace to repair it, we decided to schedule a quote and new furnace install with them. They told us that they'd get back to us to get that all scheduled, but never reached out. When we reached out ourselves they scheduled us a week out of a quote and promised to put us on an urgency list (with hopeful next day installation, same week installation guaranteed) since we were living in a home with no AC in the height of summer. After that phone call, we were feeling hopeful. The next day, however, our hopes were completely tanked. We called to double check the quote window so one of us could be home and they told us they were still coming out for the quote, but couldn't do an install until a week later (we were told they scheduled us for the later date), but would try to get us higher up on the list. We called today to see if there was any movement and when to expect someone to come out for an install and they then informed us that we in fact WERE NOT scheduled for the day we thought we were scheduled for and were told we were scheduled for and that now they couldn't get someone out for an install for another 2 weeks. We have been in desperate need to get our furnace and AC fixed because the house has been measuring at 90 degrees indoors for 4 days straight and Hoover was made well aware of this. I understand that the season is busy, but when we are guaranteed same week installation, get pushed back with a guarantee of a different date only to find out they didn't actually put us on the schedule? I'm disgusted. DO NOT book anything with Hoover. They will just screw you over when you need it most. We are cancelling all future appointments with them and will NEVER be calling them again. read more

Public Warning I was a victim of Price Gouging from Hoover Electric. Do not trust Plumber Wesley Green. I was charged $1500 for a Hot Water Tank Replacement. I later discovered the Hot Water Tank cost $399. Also, he tried to charge $300 to replace a toilet fluid master that cost $20. He also wanted to change a main water value at $450 that was not broken. read more

Revising a copper pipe set up for the old dryer to the code for black pipe and shut off valve system required 10 feet of black pipe and the shut off valve basically. Not necessarily complaining that they took too long, but that $350 labor rate made hooking up a dryer cost just about $1.000. read more

I waited 2 weeks for someone to come to my house, I explained I had a specific time frame that I needed my furnace replaced and central air installed as well as duct work fixed and they agreed to come out. I explained how difficult the work was going to be and they still agreed to come out. The appointment went well, the contractor told us he would be discussing the project with his boss and get us a quote in 3 business days. Well - three days came and went. I called the office because I have a specific timeframe to get work done. I was told someone would call me right back, I left my cell number since I was at work. The sales person called my home phone and left a message and said they are too busy to take on this project at this time. Now why would they agree to come give us a quote if they were too busy? Waiting for this company has cost me 3 weeks of my timeline. I am sooooo disappointed. read more

We purchased two new 40 gallon water heaters through Home Depot for about $4,000. HD contracted with DRF who in turn contracted with Hoover. Hoover was good on communication, calling and sending texts about the arrival of their technician. They were professional, and cleaned up the area nicely. Unfortunately, the water heaters produced only tepid water in the first 24 hours. The technician returned, and changed the height of a dip tube. That produced hot water, but we had to run the kitchen sink for 4.5 minutes to get water at 110 degrees, despite its location about 30 linear feet from the tanks. On the third visit, a more experienced technician decided we needed significant changes to the way the water came in and out of the tanks, with five new valves and a cost to us of $835. If this had been in the original quote, we might have seen it as reasonable. Now, this project has caused us to be home four days in the last week, and it cost us more than other quotes we received. We are very disappointed. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I feel Hoover is a predatory company. I get that they are in business to make money, however these guys are a bunch of hustlers. We needed electrical work in our garage and some outlet work. We knew it would be pricey but figured around $1200. They quoted us at $2k. The electrician went downstairs and told my wife that we have a leak in our electrical box and it needs to be replaced. He said it was an emergency and it needed to be done quickly. The wife says okay. She signs up withers finance company greensky and they state the bill is now $5k for everything. My wife calls me at work letting me know what happened I immediately feel it's a scam. Everybody I talk stated I needed to get it done so we go ahead with the appointment. We figured the price was high but they had some decent reviews on Angie's list. They come and start doing the work. As the day goes on they call out DTE to fix wires on the outside. The technician wanted to know why they were putting in a 200 amp box. The electrician says it's the best and biggest there is. DTE guy thought it was overkill. They do some additional work on the outside. I ask will this change the price and electrician said oh no everything is the same. At the end of the day he shows me everything he did. Everything looks great and I would like to note has been running great. He then hands me a bill for $7800. I nearly crapped my pants. Our lawyer who is a family member contacted them and got the bill down to $5k, but what a fiasco. I would strongly recommend not working with these people unless you have money to throw away. read more
