Great southern comfort food with hospitality to boot. I was hiking at Inks Lake with friends and we were famished and saw Hoover Valley on the way and decided we would grab a meal on the way out. There is a restaurant on one side and a convenience store on the other. Once entering we were able to grab a table any where. Their menu isn't that big but it has the southern staples. Fried Catfish, Chicken Fried Chicken, Chicken Fried Steak, Burgers, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches. We tried the Chicken Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Cheeseburger, and a Sandwich. Everyone was happy with their entrees and each of us happen to get the seasoned Fries as a side and they were wonderful. While you are waiting for your food to come out you can help yourself to a complimentary cup of beans. Prices were reasonable, service was quick, oh, and they have a cooler of around 10 different desserts to choose from. Hershey pie, Oreo pie, strawberry cream pie, peach cobbler, chocolate cream pie... Definitely try it out if you are in the area! read more

We visited the area due to my husbands convention at Horseshoe Bay Resort and us trying local wineries. After stopping at several locations in Marble Falls trying to eat lunch without success (not offered a seat at their top cafe or having to wait in lines with 10 cars at the local sandwich shop) we decided to keep driving to Perisos. As we were about to turn into the winery we spotted Hoover Cafe. Go try this place! We had the chicken chicken salad and the lunch special with fried okra and a sweet tea. We had dinner here on $5 burger night and the place was packed! Our first time here so we tried the fried shrimp and catfish baskets. The food was good and inexpensive. The fried okra and brown beans were good. Nice staff. We will return to try one of those burgers! read more

First off let's get the good out of the way : really nice friendly staff and a fresh side salad. That's it! We swung by this place because of decent reviews and by god, it was hard to believe that we were in the same place! We ordered the famed catfish and the chicken and dumpling special. The catfish was super thin and very salty and dry...and I am pretty sure it was nut catfish to begin with. This tasted liked frozen pre made tilapia and coleslaw that tasted like it came straight from sysco. The chicken and dumpling tasted like our came straight out of a can. The almost non existent chicken tasted like it was canned chicken, the gravy and dumplings had the consistency and salty chemical canned flavor. The breadstick was somehow soggy and rendered strangely crusty on top and mush at the bottom. The only really good thing was the side salad which tasted fresh and had crisp iceberg, a slice of fresh tomato and a sprinkling of yellow cheese. All in all avoidable! Two stars only because the staff really are very nice and apparently they have been voted as nicest staff, and I would agree. Drive on by this place if you are ever on park road 4 and go to marble falls where better options prevail. read more

Loved it!!! they have a crockpot of pinto beans you can serve a free bowl from as soon as you get there. Ordered a bowl of tortilla soup and the crispy chicken salad. I had the Salisbury steak lunch special and it was tasty but definitely a pre packaged product . The cheeseburger here is also fine but again this is a pre prepared patty. They use a more sweet than savory bun which is not my preference but still good and I like their fries even if they are the pre frozen type. All in all this is a nice little , very clean cafe to stop at and have a bite. The staff is super nice, it's just not home cooking if that's what you're looking for. read more

The food is good. I've had a BLT and a shrimp basket special. My hubby had a burger and a club. The waitstaff is inconsistent. We have good and bad. It's super busy after church on Sundays. Tip: you can get a to go cup next door at the gas station and fill the fountain drink yourself. read more

We have been eating here for quite a few years, for as long as I've lived in the hill country. We don't eat there quite as often the past few years since going gluten free but occasionally we eat burger with no buns(I miss their buns). Tonight I grabbed a grilled chicken salad in my way home and it was as good as I could hope for(I really wanted a burger...with bun:( anyhow, the food is always great, service is always great. This place has great food and fast service. The hamburgers are served on sour dough bread! Made to order, the burgers great, chicken is tender and kids loved the corn dogs. They make a good pecan pie as well. Although we did not try the catfish - I think they have an all you can eat on Friday - don't think they serve pizza. read more

I came here to eat during my visit to inks lake. This area of the country is sublime. What really hit home was this Hoovers cafe. It has plenty seating, very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Grocery store is 12 inches away to boot, get most of what you need for camp food and few supplies. I ordered the catfish plate, potato salad, coleslaw, hush puppies. Little salty but it was a good plate. I liked that they had pie, a lot of pie. I'll be back soon. read more

Didn't stop here because we'd heard of it. Didn't stop because of curb appeal. We stopped because we were hungry and didn't want to drive back into Burnet to eat. We were hoping for just something passable...no great expectations from this restaurant/gas station combo. Laughed as we approached the entrance to see their sign saying thanks for being voted "best staff"/"best lunch", thinking that they could have been "best ____" as there didn't seem to be any competition around. Pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I opted for fried catfish and my wife had a chicken salad on a grilled bun. In 50+ years of eating fried catfish, I'd never experienced a taste that good. Perfection came with fries and slaw. I found myself taking smaller and smaller bites in hope of making it last as long as I could. My wife's chicken salad was equally tasty, with fresh fruits and nuts mixed in. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, they had a gentleman named Randy Wright playing guitar and singing with a soothing voice that would surely make the song writers proud. Next time I head out to Inks Lake, I'll be sure to go on a Friday night for the all-you-can-eat catfish and come back for lunch on Sunday to hear Randy Wright.
