Ok, so I'll admit I do go here quite frequently, but it's for 2 reasons only: 1) it's close to my house. Like, really close. And 2) their vegetable lo mein is good - but it's the only thing I've had there that I like. I usually get Hunan chicken or chicken with broccoli at standard Chinese places, but they weren't very good here. Only reason I even ended up trying the lo mein was because my friend had some that I could sample. AVOID the egg rolls. I swear, they walk next door to the freezer section at Publix and buy them there. They're gross. It's cash only, too. So if you're like me and NEVER have cash on you, this is somewhat inconvenient. But since the lo mein is $3.75, I can occasionally be bothered to hold onto a $5 bill so I can run to Hop Shing - the last place in the free world that doesn't accept plastic. read more

I'll say this...this is the only Chinese place that I've gone to more than once since moving to Atlanta a year ago, and I've been several times. In the interest of full disclosure, I can walk here from my apartment, so the convenience factor is a big player. With that being said, the food is halfway decent and not too bad for takeout Chinese. It's also a great value, and you get a lot for what little money you have to spend. Food is usually ready in ten minutes or less, and the girls up front are polite. Nothing here is going to blow you away, but if you want consistently decent and affordable Chinese takeout, you're pretty safe going here. I had the General Tso's chicken. It included a LOT of chicken. I liked the texture of the fried chicken. The sauce was not that impressive. It should have been a bit spicier. You walk in, they take your order, they deliver it to your table on Styrofoam plates, you clean up your own table and pay on your way out. No one is visiting your table. Moving to the area in a few months, so I've been checking out local restaurants. Stopped by Hop Shing at I-85 & Shallowford Rd. I ordered Won Ton soup & Moo Shu Pork. The soup had more in it than most Chinese restaurants offer & was hot. A good thing! The Moo Shu Pork was delicious. The only negative about Hop Shing is that it's really a take out, has only a few tables (if you want to eat in) & the food comes in take out containers. But the food is tasty & plentiful! read more

I used to live nearby here, and my mom would always pick up food here for us to eat. It's in a really convenient location, although they don't have delivery. Their lunch specials are good. I got the Mongolian chicken with white rice, hot and sour soup for $8. Everything tasted fine, although they kinda did skimp on the pieces of chicken. A lot of vegetables, good sauce, and a generous portion of rice. Their lo mein is very good, yet their fried rice is so-so. I've felt like it's bland and lacks flavor. Chinese take-out the way I want it....and how like it. What I really like about this little spot on Shallowford Rd in the Publix Shopping Center (besides the good food) is it's unhidden kitchen. You know how some of these places around this city are; You walk up to the counter, place your order and 10 min later someone comes through a door with your order in a brown bag. Was craving some Chinese food for lunch, especially some hot and fresh wontons, and decided to give this place a try based off the reviews and being that it was within 10 minutes of my job. First I'll start with the pros the finish with the cons. The food was ready and packaged for pickup when I arrived within 10 mins as promised. The sesame chicken was also superb as well as the wontons. However, upon entering the restaurant I noticed that none of the employees were wearing gloves as they were preparing food, that should've been a major red flag. Secondly, according to a few of the previous reviews the rice is said to be amazing...yeahhh...no. The rice had a funny taste and was not enjoyable at all so maybe I went on the wrong day/time. And lastly the sweet and sour dipping sauce for the wontons was a no go, it gave off a tropical punch taste, yuck! Although I did enjoy the sesame chicken and wontons (minus the sweet and sour dip), I don't think I'll be giving this place another try. One time was more than enough for me. read more

I was looking for something quick to eat last evening so I took a chance and tried Hop Shing. I pulled out their menu and noticed they only have dine in or take out; that's strike one for no delivery option. I called and placed my order for 10 lemon pepper wings all flats only to be told they can't do the all flats. What? That's strike two, I'm not crazy about any business that won't let you order food the way you like it, I'm not even mad when they have an up-charge for what you want. I passed on the wings and instead got the shrimp with garlic sauce and my boyfriend got the sesame chicken and shrimp fried rice. My food was terrible with no flavor at all. Luckily, they provided a large portion of the sesame chicken which my boyfriend shared with me. If it weren't for that, I would have went without dinner. read more

Hop Shing is our neighborhood Chinese takeout joint. If you are looking for authentic Asian cuisine, you'll be better served at one of the fine family-owned restaurants on Buford Highway. If you want a fast Chinese fix with plentiful portions, Hop Shing is a terrific place. Its not the best chinese food but it'll do. Its affordable so I can go there multiple times in a week. Its also in close proximity to the IRS where I work so i can stop on my way in to work. I thoroughly enjoy this place. I have only been here a couple of times and they still provide a large amount of good food for good prices. When I get Chinese I just look up the closest Chinese place and some are usually closed but not this place- they stay true to their hours. Consistent, good and plentiful. I have been getting take out from here for years and it never disappoints. Favorites are Wonton Soup and Fried Cheese Wonton Appetizers. They have combination plates that come with a egg roll and fried rice for under $7. These plates are enough for 2 people, or for a meal with left overs. This is my "go to" takeout Chinese restaurant. The food is consistently good, the people taking orders and serving are sweet. The kitchen is galley style, so you can watch them cook your food from scratch. If you're there during non-busy times, you can see them in the back prepping everything. Another thing that's awesome: if you have favorite dish that's not on the menu, if you can describe it and they have the ingredients, they'll make it. Finally, always very ample portions. I have been going to Hop Shing for over 12 years. The house Lo-Mein is the best in town. If you get a dish with shrimp, they are not tiny dried up shrimp, the owners are very picky about the fish. Everyone that I have introduce the restaurant too, are now my friends for life. The family are very sweet people. I wish they have more room at their location to set up a full restaurant.
