I was in Nashville on a work trip with zero time to explore, so I opted for convenience and ate at Hoppy bird inside the Hilton, and I'm genuinely glad I did. The menu is straightforward and comforting in the best way: fried chicken, wraps, chicken and waffles, with heat levels ranging from mild to hot and classic sides like mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, and onion rings. Exactly what you want after a long day. I ordered the Hoppy Hot Chicken Sandwich with their spiciest sauce and a side of mac and cheese. For me, the heat landed closer to mild, but if you're not a regular spicy-food eater, it may hit a little harder. The real standout was the mac and cheese, rich, creamy, and topped with what tasted like a light, crunchy panko layer. Absolutely excellent. For dessert, I couldn't pass up the fried Oreos. Warm, crispy, and indulgent in all the right ways my only regret was not ordering a glass of milk to go with them. All in all, Hoppy Chicken delivered classic comfort food done right. If you're staying at the Hilton or nearby and want a solid fried chicken fix without leaving the building, this place is a no-brainer. Also, the place has a really nice relaxed vibe that has several tables and it also has a bar area. It has like a really cozy corner. This is a 2.5 if I'm honest. But i will round up to 3: Let me establish credibility before you judge me: former fat kid, current semi fat philosopher/menace. Part time athlete, full time degenerate with a passport and frequent flyer miles. I enjoy a drink, but I enjoy good food more. My liver has seen things, but nothing worth an intervention. I've eaten, drank, and emotionally unraveled across multiple continents and most U.S. states including bathrooms that should not legally exist. I know when something is off. I wandered into Hoppy Bird during a snowstorm while temporarily homeless (house had no power, no heat, vibes were BAD). I was staying in a downtown hotel, wearing defeat, just looking to anesthetize my soul with fried chicken and alcohol. The place is microscopic. Like dollhouse small. You can see the entire restaurant, the kitchen, the staff's thoughts, and at least three unresolved childhood traumas. Despite this, there were SIX staff members on duty. Six. For what? A flash mob? I sit at the bar. ID? I will not incriminate anyone, i will plead the fifth. I order a Manhattan and then a beer. Normal human behavior. An eternity passes. Suddenly BAM! A server teleports into my aura asking my name and if I "have a tab." Ma'am, you spoke to me ONCE an hour ago and then vanished like a ghost with student loans. I give her my card. I am halfway through my drink. HALF. She SNATCHES the glass like it owes her money and asks if I want another one. I wasn't done. I hadn't said goodbye. We were still getting to know each other. I stand up briefly to stretch my legs and go to the bathroom, IMMEDIATELY she goes, "Wanna check out?" WHO. SENT. YOU. There is a blizzard outside. I have no electricity at home. I am paying for a hotel. I am actively paying YOU. Please stop trying to evict me emotionally. I was born in Asia, she might have been asian. Like can we be cool!? Other staff though? Sweethearts. Two Arab looking guys, a blonde woman, a blonde dude. All normal. All calm. All seemingly just as confused as I was. Now the chaos part: I'm convinced every single employee started their FIRST EVER restaurant shift at the exact same time. Food orders were being shouted into the void like bingo numbers. Someone would yell an item and everyone would just stare around to see who blinked first. I was asked THREE TIMES if I ordered THREE DIFFERENT THINGS. At one point I thought I might be the problem. I started gaslighting myself. I genuinely want SNL to write a skit about this, was too entertaining!! Food? Meh. Fine. Hattie B's would eat this place alive and not even burp. The wedge fries are unhinged in a good way though. Those slapped. Credit where it's due. Would I return? No. Did I survive? Barely. This place was connected to my hotel. Decided to try the Nashville hot chicken. Had the chicken and waffles with their standard heat. Man I love chicken and waffles with syrup. So yummy. It was pretty quiet on a Sunday night and the service was top notch. Bar tender was very nice and social. I also had the Nashville beer on tap and really really liked it. "Hoppy? More like Sloppy." Walked into Hoppy Bird expecting a chill meal and some good vibes, but instead, I found a ghost town--if the ghosts were really bad at cleaning up after themselves. The place was empty, yet somehow 75% of the tables looked like they had just survived a food fight. The bartender moved like he was starring in a slow-motion action scene--just without the action. Super convenient bc it's attached to our hotel so we thought we'd have pre outing drinks and snacks. We made a mistake. The service was not great (but friendly) and SO slow. We sat at our table for probably 9 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. So we started to head to the bar for service and then the bar tender said no no we'll come to you for service. Every staff member seemed brand new and like they didn't get full training completed. 2 of our drinks (which were specialty drinks) were only filled half way? Even though the other two people had FULL drinks. When we received our snacks of fries and fried pickles (which took approx 25 mins for 2 very easy menu items) we got no silverware or napkins. We came here a little wary because of other reviews but came anyway because we were tired and hungry and didn't want to travel far. We got the chicken shawarma with pickle fries. We liked the sandwich. The pickle fritters or whatever tastes good also but we didn't like the sauce that came with it. We sat outside so we were never checked on after food was delivered. Had a glass of wine and beer with our dinner and overall we would say it was good place in a jam. Not sure how the other food is. I had breakfast and Dinner at Hoppy Bird and both were very good. Portion were Large so was the price however. The breakfast buffet was 19.00. It had most any breakfast item available. I had dinner in the bar. A burger(large and delicious) with fried okra and 3 adult beverages was a little high at 64.00 for just myself. The staff were overly friendly the bar tender as well as the wait staff did a great job. The whole kitchen had talent as they took turns taking the stage to play and sing. The setting was of course typical Nashville music and hot chicken. Very relaxing atmosphere. Also very convenient being able to grab the elevator right up to my room.
