Mom and 4 adult daughters and infant from pa visiting Austin on girls getaway. We were staying nearby a VRBO in Lakeway, and decided to stop at hops in time for our last dinner before going home. We pretty much ordered one of everything on the menu and shared. Everything was amazing. My favorite was was the charred carrots and the broccoli. The shrimp tacos, steak kebabs and bruschetta also amazing. We sat on the deck and enjoy the live music. Ask for server Col Drake, very entertaining and very attentive to our every need. We had some amazing red wine and hard cider. Definitely a five-star restaurant. read more

Never again. We stopped here on our way home on my birthday after a day of tasting wine in the hill country. We ordered, and waited 30 minutes for food. The kitchen staff came to our table with only my husband's meal and proceeded to tell me they ran out of what I ordered. My husband ordered a well-done hamburger, I ordered the veggie fried-rice. At what point during cooking my husband's order did they discover they'd run out of fried rice? Were they not going to start cooking it until his well-done burger was done? Did they run out rice? the veggies? I'm just flabbergasted that as some point in the process it didn't occur to them that perhaps the customer needed to know. They only kind-of suggested I order something else (done without a menu?) When I asked what they could prepare quickly, they shrugged and said nothing really. Perhaps the food that passed by our table was delicious, but if they don't decide to tell you they ran out of what you ordered I'll never know. I came in for a beer but was blown away by the extensive tap selection! After the bartender hand selected a beer to match my tastes, I decided to dive into the food menu. Despite everything on the menu looking enticing, I decided on the chicken and pancakes which was phenomenal, to say the least. I left the restaurant happy and with a full belly. We have yet to try again but we went one day and service was horrendous. We waited about 15/20 min just for a waiter to bring us water and it was not busy. We did NOT order drinks but went for food. It was almost as if we were written off because we didn't buy drinks. Food was ok but couldn't bare the service. Food was WAY overpriced for the taste and quality. Had an Asian chopped salad. Terrible. For the price, I could have gone to Panera bread and gotten the same thing for cheaper and it probably would've tasted better, which isn't saying much. My husband had the steak. At $33, it was less than on par. Save your Thyme and money and Hop on over somewhere else if you're not going there for drinks. Staff was friendly so for that, I'd give it 5 stars, but only for that. read more

We enjoyed Sunday lunch here. Great beer selection and really good food. Husband had the shrimp and grits with avocado and didn't let anyone else try it! Needless to say he loved it. I had the kale salad and roasted carrots. I could eat those carrots every day! Little kid had the chicken tenders and she said, "these are the best chicken tenders I've ever eaten." Dang! So gooood! I've been in Lakeway 15 years and this place is just what we needed! The vibe is chill beer garden, casual excellence. Service friendly and knowledgeable but unpretentious. Food is fantastic - Baja shrimp tacos, roasted carrots, beef skewers, amazing in-house desserts and a crazy Wednesday-only limited-edition burger special (get there early!). Finally found a bar that seems to fit the Lakeway loclifestyle Revisited a few days later on a Tuesday evening and experience was totally different. Serving staff slow, food was decidedly poor and did not come out together. Lunch menu was all that was on offer for dinner Very disappointing as we had taken friends there on the basis of our prior weekend experience. And their bird feeder was empty!! Not sure why this rating is as high as it is. Probably because choices in Lakeway for adults is slim. This restaurant was a disappointment being that they were out of potato chips,the Ceasar salad was drenched in what tasted like bland mayonnaise. No bite of garlic or hint of anchovy...sigh. The broccoli side was supposed to have a goat cheese au gratin but that was code obviously for yet another tasteless smear of something orange with no hint of goat cheese. At this point I was looking forward to my steak kabobs with chimichurri...but wait?? Where's the chimichurri sauce?? Lol Things were comical at this point I had to ask the waitress. Apparently that is just the marinade. So enjoy your tiny crunchy pieces on a bed of oiled down Kale...again with no taste. My assumption is that the chefs are totally against salt and seasoning. The only reason I would ever go back is for their Gluten Free Omission beer. And maybe potato chips ...if they have them..arggg read more

Tried several dishes on the menu and one was better than the next. My favorites were the Roasted Cauliflower Soup, Fried Cornbread, Steak Skewers and Shrimp & B.S.M. Grits. We shared these with several of us and loved it all. The beer selection is fantastic. Enjoyed the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Old Chub Scottish Ale. For dessert, had the Coconut & Lime Panna Cota and although not a lover of this dish for those who are fans enjoyed it. The best desserts are the Chocolate Cheesecake (graham, toasted meringue and sweet potato, YES SWEET POTATO)-absolutely delicious!!!! And Bread Pudding with vanilla & bourbon sauce. WOW!!!! Nice atmosphere with outdoor patio and bar with tree cover. Real nice. Will definitely put Hops and Thyme on my list of go to places. read more

I really like the environment, especially the outside patio under the trees. Very friendly staff. Unusual menu offerings. Went in on a weekend afternoon recently and we were told we could only order off the happy hour menu. Tried to overcharge us for two appetizers and were told it was because we ordered the dinner size portion of the shrimp and grits ($19) not the appetizer size ($12), which was rather confusing since we thought we could only order the happy hour size. Charged $12 instead of $6 for the cornbread appetizer. Pointed it out to the bartender and they adjusted the the ticket. Guess it was just a misunderstanding but it's always good to check your bill. read more

So, after a super slow first visit for brunch, we decided to try for dinner after hearing raves about their hamburgers. We ordered draft beers and were served in stemless wine glasses? Maybe they were out of pint glasses, but our pour was less than 12 0z. Then, my husband's burger arrived with a completely burned black bun... waitress took it back, took another 15min. for his replacement, fries weren't replaced...manager was made aware of it, but only said thanks for being patient. Horrible experience here. We read on Lakeway swap that it was amazing. Nothing about this place it good. Steak is flavorless, over cooked, and there is no sauce as specified in the menu. The chip app tasted like lays chips with microwaveable bacon on top. The chicken and pancakes... chicken was mainly fried bread and no chicken, pancakes were decent but together not a good combination. The Mac and Cheese was the highlight of the night and that is probably the easiest thing to make of all of this. Chili cheese fries tasted like a can of wolf chili was poured on top of some frozen microwaved French fries with some scallions to make it look appetizing. All in all wouldn't recommend to go here . They will close down as quickly as every other place here has. read more

Cool little place!! They have delicious and creative apps and not your average bar food. I loved sitting outside under the big trees, that provide a completely shaded area. We went shortly after they opened and had high hopes for a new place in the neighborhood. The day we came in it was raining and there was a wait, not a problem, that happens. What was a problem was a staff member's or owner's friends came in and after lots of hugs and chat were seated directly while the rest of us, who had been waiting for at least 20 minutes kept waiting. It was blatantly obvious - a four-person table paid out and left and they seated them immediately. This isn't the first or only restaurant to do it, but if we have been waiting for a table and an owner/server seats their friends or family before customers who have been waiting for a table *anywhere,* we don't go back, period. It says a lot about a restaurant's customer service priorities. We finally grabbed seats at the bar when two became available. The barman was rushed, I think he was by himself trying to tend a long bar and it was a little challenging to get his attention, which was not his fault. After a glass of wine and an appetizer, which was fine, we left and haven't been back. We wish them well, and they seem to be successful per the recent reviews, but we won't be back. read more
