1st time here yesterday with my girlfriend and her parents for a late lunch FANTASTIC experience that convinced me to write a long overdue first review! Great beer and wine selection and the staff was is very knowledgeable about all the selections and quite responsive. All our dishes were simple, clean honest food - flavorful but not overly complicated. My BLT + Avocado with aioli and red onion jam was quite delicious and learned about a new brewery in wine country to boot. Ross took great care of us and will definitely be heading back in our next visit to Austin! read more

Great small neighborhood (Lakeway) pub - lots of excellent US Ales on tap and wines but the food is why I love this place! Very interesting, different, and delicious. The charred carrots are amazing. As are the baja shrimp tacos, and the broccoli dish. Everything is obviously homemade. The sauces they create are wonderful! Live music on Thursday - Saturday on the outside patio. So thankful this restaurant opened in the neighborhood! read more

This is a great place and for more than just a beer. They have a Chef with a refined palette who is not trying too hard but still representing himself very well. All of the dishes(those carrots!) we have tried in our two visits were well balanced, refined, while remaining playful and just the right size. As someone who has been in the service industry for a long time, this is my new favorite spot in all of Lakeway. Great food(for me)very reasonable beer and wine prices (for my wife) and the best part: they are really good people. In two visits we met one of the Owners and the Chef, both of which were genuine, humble and truly just wanted to make people happy with their food and drink. We will be back again and again. I'm sad we didn't make it in for the Burgers tonight! If your going for the burgers, you better be early! They sell out every Wednesday before they even start officially selling them! I took my husband to Hops and Thyme for dinner to celebrate his birthday last Saturday. What a treat it turned out to be!! Everything we had was outstanding. We started off with the Charred Carrots and House Potato Chips for our appetizers. Wow! I had the BLT and the red onion jam truly made the sandwich! My husband had the Pork Belly Fried Rice and said that the combination of flavors was exquisite. Even the dessert of Lemon Bars with strawberry jam were irresistible!! They have an excellent selection of beers. Our waiter was very nice, friendly , and engaging.We will definitely be visiting this establishment over and over again! read more

We came here early one day while vacationing in Austin. Of course it was way early and before dinner so we decided to go ahead and try out the Happy Hour specials and drinks. Loved the Brussel sprouts and I typically do not like them unless done just right. Drinks on tap were cheap. Good wings and cornbread as well. Very accommodating for our 8 month as well. We had a great experience at Hops and Thyme tonight! Plenty of beers on tap and the food was DEELISH. We had the fried cornbread (yummy) and then shared the Baja tacos and Steak Skewers. Ended with the cheesecake dessert that we also shared. The food was really great - and portions were good! We will be going back soon (maybe for a Sunday brunch!) - Look forward to enjoying the patio and live music. Staff was helpful and super friendly. Loved it! read more

Very laid back place with many's beers to choose from. The seating is comfortable with padded cushions in the booths with plenty of shade from the trees. Food is great with reasonable prices. read more

Four of us went by last Thursday evening before bowling. Each of us ordered something different off the menu and we all enjoyed our meal. We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and got to see all the food as it was being prepared. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. We did not get to go out on the patio because it was cold and wet, but I can see us hanging out there when it's nice. Great job! Especially since the place just opened. read more

Arrived today 2/16/19. There was no hostess so the bartender told us to grab an open table. The waiter came over and asked us if we had a reservation. We told him the bartender told us to sit anywhere. The waiter amps it up and tells us that this table was reserved. I looked for a sign on the table and was kind of surprised at this point. The waiter says "I'll look for something else for you" and leaves. He returns about a minute later and says "My party is here so I have to have you wait over there". We walked. This was too weird and rude for us to ever go back. read more

Great atmosphere, nice outdoor deck, terrific food, and wonderful wait staff - very knowledgeable and helpful about all the brews and wines. Had called earlier in the week to find out when music would be playing, as we had promised our son with special needs a dinner listening to music. After we ordered food we learned that the performer had cancelled. Ok, whatever, it is the holidays. What was the most annoying was that our server had tried to take our bill with the tip completed before we had filled it out. We told her we hadn't filled it out yet and she gave us maybe a minute or two and then she was back to swap the bill from us. Of course our plates hadn't been cleared yet but our bill sure had been! I went there for lunch and ordered the shrimp po boy. My expectations were probably too high. It was mostly bread with four shrimp. It wasn't warm and wasn't tasty. However, the bread pudding was good. My friend and I split one. I left hungry and am not a big eater. read more

Hops and Thyme is in an ultra competitive location. Three other restaurants have opened and quickly closed at this venue. I would not think with the competition they have in Lakeway that they could afford to be overtly rude to customers, but they are. Today the bartender loudly shamed my partner all for a laugh at her expense because of a domestic beer order. Although they stock and sell domestic beer, I guess you order at your own risk. Our waiter heard the comment and did not offer an apology, but tried to tell her what beer to order instead. Well, the same waiter advised this the earlier in the week, and she did try it, but did not like it. I guess he thinks he knows what is best for her to save face. This was the third time we had been there this week. We will not return. I wonder what restaurant will be the fifth establishment at that location. read more

I was humiliated for ordering a domestic beer. Yes, I didn't know you had to be a craft beer drinker to enjoy the food, but according to the bartender, you do. I was sitting at the bar and after ordering my domestic beer, I heard this big chuckle about the beer I ordered. I asked my waiter if I had just been beer shamed, and he replied, "Yes." He then tried to tell me about some craft beers that I might enjoy. I quickly shut him down because, I am sorry, but I do not like craft beer. I was actually coming there to try to the food. I believe the bartender had been drinking at a beerfest. When I clearly told the establishment about the embarrassment, they offered nothing. They asked what they could do, but I shouldn't have to tell them how to run a descent business. I have lived in Lakeway for 26 years, and I have never been embarrassed at a restaurant before this incident. read more

Hops and Thyme did not really meet my expectations. The service was odd as the waiter had to be reminded several times to bring additional water and other drinks. He asked us over and over if things were ok, and each time we would have to remind him of things he had not brought. There were 6 of us and two got food and then the other food did not come for like 10 minutes. This place is also a little pricey for what you get. It is a lovely environment with a shaded patio nestled around big oak trees. read more

The entire experience was very bad. It started when we arrived and were seated at a dirty table. The hostess KEPT THE DIRTY GLASSES ON THE TABLE. We pushed them aside. We were only given 2 menus for 4 adults but were each given a wine menu. We waited about 10-15 minutes before I was able to flag someone down to ask how ordering works. I assumed bec we'd been ignored for so long that it wasn't a normal waiter service. No, it's waiter service. At this point, the dirty glasses are removed from the table. We order fried corn bread and drinks. Wait too long for those and the corn bread wasn't worth the $6. We order our meals. We were there well over an hour before 2/5 meals arrived - mushroom risotto and chicken with some side. It took another 10 min until the kids Mac and cheese came out, another 10 min until a salad came out, and then 5 more minutes until shrimp and grits came out. Between the first plate and last plate, 25 min went by. This is entirely unacceptable. The only people happy were the chicken dish and my toddler with Mac and cheese. The risotto was extremely salty but I didn't want to wait 30+ min for a new one. The dressing on the salad was very spicy, and the shrimp and grits was bland. Every time I needed a drink refill, I had to ask. When we asked for the bill, the waiter expected us to just give him a card without seeing the bill. He then tried the chip and swiping it, neither worked so he manually input it. I hope we don't get charged 3x. We were there about 2 hours which is way too long for a simple dinner. read more

I have been to the restaurant for 3 times now since living in Lakeway. Every time has been pretty good. It's very hipster in a very good way. that means artisan food handcraft with quality ingredients, cultivated beer and wine lists. Services have always been friendly and welcoming. Indoor is consists of a bar area and a few tables. Outside is gorgeous with large trees and surrounded by green. We have been there twice during the happy hour but the last time wasn't 100% that's why I took a star away. Last 2 visits they were out of some stuff we wanted on the menu. Last visit, they were out of both things we ordered for appetizers. The waiter said to us "The Brussel sprouts were out, but I will get you the ribs instead". He did that twice and each replacement he was "getting" for us were the most expensive on the menu. We had 2 app and 4 beers($5-$6 each) all on happy hour menu and left with a $70 bill. It's not a big deal, but just a little more that what I expected. Still, we will continue to come back. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Lakeway. read more
