Fortunately, Horatio's fit the bill, and it's only 5 minutes from my house. The foccacia bread basket was buttery and rosemary-y. The lobster bisque was hot and comforting. We shared the prime rib and steamed clams. I felt that was the best contrasting combination. Something hearty and meaty with something acidic/lemony and briny. Everything was cooked perfectly and the salt crust on the prime rib was delicious. It was a great experience and definitely what I needed after a stressful and long day at work. read more

I was here last Friday night for a birthday dinner and had a really good time. They used to do dinner service until 11:00 on Fridays and Saturdays but it has been changed to 10:00. The website was not updated when we made the reservation. 10:00 was kind of early for Friday I think but we went well past that and they were really cool about it. They weren't trying to kick us out or anything. The appetizer sampler is a great way to go for a party of like 5 or 6 people and everything on it is good. I had the salmon for dinner. It was cooked perfectly. The veggies and sauce is came with were awesome. I love the ambiance here and it has a great view of the marina. Not only location for a beautiful sunset over looking the harbor & water front my guest was able to enjoy a walk by the boats in the harbor as he was the first to arrive. It starts with the great service variety in the menu. If you're not into seafood or large portions they have something for everyone. New additions to the menu are small plates! Great idea if you feel like having prime rib, as I had; with a bowl of New England clam chowder poured over bacon bits and chives. A world of spice and herb come together. Dined at Horatio's with a friend. It was a Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. The restaurant was busy and the host/hostess staff were friendly and competent. We had a reservation and were stated promptly at a window table. The server was very friendly and well versed in the menu items and was very helpful. We both ordered the chicken Dijon and a wedge salad. The salads came out quickly and were fresh and neatly prepared. Very fresh ingredients, and I can't always say that about salads in every restaurant. Dressings were homemade and the salads were not swimming in dressing. Entrees came out quickly and were served hot. Everything was tasty and well prepared. No complaints. Fast friendly service and food served hot and to order. I'd go again. Brilliant! I'm staying at the San Leandro Marina Inn next door and have eaten at Horatio's twice now. Last night I had the Tenderloin Medallions and Blue Cheese Risotto cakes with Wood Plank Asparagus as a side, and tonight having the Ahi Tuna Duo (half serving blackened with sushi rice, the other diced with onions, sesame seeds and some diced green asian vegetable) and Crispy Salmon Rangoons as a side. Omg, omg, omg. So very very yummy. I've only ordered off the seasonal menu so far. I was VERY presently surprised at the restaurant decor (sat in the bar area) after reading some reviews here. At least the bar room is a mix of modern and antique nautical with a brilliant view of the Marina. Nothing silly or pirate themed I could see. Maybe the main dining room is different. Not cheap, but not over the top either. You'll likely find nothing else like it this side of the bay. Well worth the trip if you are in the Oakland area. read more

As previously stated in another review I believe the price point is based on location more than quality. Me and a friend had lunch. Her drink was not as ordered and should have been remade but it wasn't and she didn't want to make a fuss. We both had the half sandwich (crab salad) and soup combo. We celebrated my birthday here last March 9 and I was thankful that my family chose this awesome place. The service was a little bit slow but the waitstaff was really great on welcoming and accommodating us. I can say that she really knew her job because she had a lot to say in every item we pointed out on their menu starting from the appetizers, up to the chef's specials for that day and up to the desserts. Too bad I didn't got the chance to know the waitstaff's name who accommodated us because I might commend her here. She even joined in singing the happy birthday song for me. So cool, so friendly, so nice. The entire theme of the restaurant was very old, very historical, somewhat antique kind of place, but in a cool way. Some part of it was like a spot in an old Spanish ship. I think the only downside of this place was their comfort room that night. I don't know about the men's room but in the ladies', it's not that clean. I ordered Braised Boneless Short Ribs for $25.95. A bit pricey but it's ok, it was nice and very tasty. It was red wine marinated and the natural juice of the meat was just so perfect. My family ordered different food and from the look of what they have ordered, I think it's pretty delicious too. After we had our meal, the waitstaff brought us a FREE Creme Brulee as a birthday present dessert. Thank You! It was so delicious! Oh and I have to say, they also had a good Pomegranate Cocktail drink. I was not allowed to order a liquor that night because unfortunately, I hadn't brought my ID with me to prove that I am already legal to have something like that so I just took a couple of sip on my sister's glass and wow, it was so good. When we are about to leave the restaurant, the waitstaff handed us a couple of cards. It was Horatio's "The $10,000 spring back card". We are not supposed to open it until we come back to that place again not later than March 30 and let the manager rip it open for us. The waitstaff told us that all the cards they produced contain a secret reward. A hundred thousand cash for the maximum reward and a 10% off in food and beverages for their "consolation" prize. So that makes every card a winner. My family teased me to open my card since it was my last night of stay there in California and we knew that I will not make it to visit back the place until March 30. I won 10% off in food and beverages by the way. You should try this place, it's cool. read more

We like Horatio's for its food, ambiance by the water, closeness to freeway, good service, and range of menu. We came on a special for Health Care workers. We always share one meal. Our waitress split our meal without a charge and was generous in its portions. Even the free bread is special and delicious. Our one problem is avoiding the delicious but high fat artichoke dip. The meal is served in a timely way and there is no pressure about leaving although there always seem to be enough people to need a steady flow out. read more

Cheesy decor, but it fits the location on the marina. Went for lunch, the hostess was nice but I don't get why we had to give our name and wait to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant. The manager stepped in and took us to a table. I had the maytag blue cheese salad with salmon add on, it didn't have much blue cheese and the salmon portion was delicious but small, about 3 oz. The server was nice, checked on us a few times, and asked if we were in a hurry so that he could pace our meal. It's a decent place with a nice view. read more

We have been coming here for years for the great happy hour. If we are fortunate, we will get Chad, he has to be one of the best servers I ever had. He is so kind, warm, professional and attentive, I can't imagine people anyone that has had him not like him. He constantly checks on us and treats our boys with respect and giggles. Food is avg, but happy hour food is almost half off the original price, can't complaint. But if Chad is there, we are then guaranteed great service and food/ drinks are out on a timely manner. First time here. Very cute place inside and outside with a relaxing view of the harbor. My server was absolutely wonderful and even the manager came by and made me feel very welcome. Had the open faced crab sandwich which turned out to be the crab and artichoke dip on bread with cheese and tomato. While I wouldn't consider it so much as a crab sandwich, it was still very tasty. I will be back here again to try out their happy hour. This place is the definition of casual fine dining. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because I had to wait even with reservations in advance. However, the experience was fantastic. Our server was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the menu so that we could order the right dish for the date. The food was prepared correctly and tasted delicious. My wife had the prime rib and I had the pork porterhouse and prawns. Of course we shared and sampled each other's dishes...delicious! This place is pretty sweet: terrific view of the bay, upscale interior decor, friendly service, and fantastic food! A few colleagues and I stopped in for a bite while in town on business. As soon as we walked in, I regretted not calling ahead for a reservation since they were pretty busy. The friendly hostess kindly advised us it would be about a 30-45 minute wait, but there was open seating in the lounge. We quickly found a great table in the lounge, sat down, and were promptly provided Happy Hour and dinner menus. I highly recommend the mushroom ravioli with braised short ribs, but we all thoroughly enjoyed our respective entrees...and the garlic bread appetizer was a unique surprise. I love this place dearly. Its been the location of many a memorable dinner with great company. I would love to give this place five stars, but considering the number of times I've eaten here factored in with the number of so so or bad experiences I've had, an excellent review is just not possible. First and foremost, this place is totally a seafood restaurant, and rightly so considering its about two feet from the marina water. The seafood, by and large has always been fucking amazing. I've had salmon, swordfish, mahi mahi, and shark here. The salmon is always cooked perfectly, but sometimes its just TOO FREAKING SALTY! If I was Gordon Ramsay I would have thrown my plate at the cook every time they served me salty ass salmon on a heap of potatoes. The sword fish I had here was perfect. No complaints there. The mahi mahi on the other hand was just kind of...dry and tasteless one night. I've also had their crab and lobster, both fresh, both juicy, both kinda...salty. STOP ADDING SALT TO YOUR FOOD! Seafood comes from the SEA which happens to contain NATURAL SEA SALT, you don't need to add much salt, if any at all, to your food! For years the place was a rock among sea food restaurants in service and quality. For a few short years this was not so. Presumably because management had changed. Thankfully, things seem to be back on track as my last few visits seem to indicate. Oh, but wait, I've only talked about the main course here. I haven't said a thing about the desserts which I've NEVER been disappointed by. They're almost worth the trip alone. Despite the salty ass salmon they keep serving me, the atmosphere is chill, and some tables have comfy high backed grandfather type chairs (if that makes any sense at all). As a result you feel like you're at home being served by your personal staff more than at a restaurant where you're paying out the ass for great service. Despite my bad experiences, and the occasionally salty salmon, I still go back there. I still take friends there too. All in all its a decent place to eat. read more

My friends & I were craving for prime rib and yelped search 'prime rib' in the area. We did not want to drive all the way to SF just to dine at HPR. This place showed up on Yelp and was a lot closer to where we live. We never heard of this place and never dined here before. Based on the reviews, we wanted to check it out. Walked in around 6:30pm on a Sunday evening and was pretty empty. They have happy hour going on and opted to sit in the happy hour dining with regular dining. We ordered coconut prawns and crab artichoke dip off the happy hour menu. Mmmm, both were delicious. I recommend these two appetizers to start off with. For the entrees, most of us ordered prime rib and my other friend ordered a pasta dish. I've got to say, this prime rib is almost compareable to HPR. But then of course, the prime rib and sides at HPR are way better. It's tender and came out medium rare just how we like it. It's very good and we can taste the rock salt marinade. The prime rib plate came with yukon mashed potatoes and green beans, musrooms & grated carrots. Did not get to finish the sides because we were full just by eating the prime rib. It also comes with a spicy fresh grated horse radish and plenty of aus jus sauce. Make sure to ask for creamy horseradish. Mmm, it was very creamy and good. My friend's pasta dish looked good; however, she did not finish it. It was very filling she says. The waitress was very friendly and nice. Her smiles brightened up our day even more. This is what you would expect from a chain style seafood spot. The food was nothing exceptional but the server, Chad, was very good. The noise level can be pretty loud with families with children dining. You can offset that by gazing out the large windows looking out over the marina. Oh man it was delicious! Came here last night for moms birthday, my server was on point with recommendations and being attentive to my table. But it always comes down to the food right?! Out of this world! I started with the Brie app and artichoke dip app, both served with bread, but worth it, amazing! The focaccia with garlic butter served at the table never stops coming and is probably the best bread in the world. Now entrees, mom ordered salmon with mashed potatoes, salmon was tender and the taters were great. I ordered the surf and turf, and it was to die for! Horseradish Nashe potatoes topped with filet medallions, crab and lobster and covered with a fantastic bernaise sauce. Brother ordered the ribs, tender as can be! The service here is pretty slow, even on a not-so-busy night, but the server was very nice. I ordered the prime rib french dip sandwich that came with a huge side of mac'n'cheese! I was very happy with my meal. My friends ordered various items, including lobster pot pie, lamb, bacon wrapped meatloaf, etc. The lamb was pretty skimpy. The restaurant decor is actually pretty bad to me, we couldn't see the view at night which is fine but the rest of the restaurant decor is completely lacking. It does look like you are inside of a pirate ship, which is cute, but this restaurant has probably never had a remodel to keep it up to date. From the chain-restaurant-carpet to the homely-tiny tables, I just wasn't impressed. My only other complaint (sorry, I'm really trying to be nice because I really enjoyed the food!) is that when the server packed up my food to take home, he didn't put any of the au jus for my french DIP sandwich. and the massive amount of oil from the mac'n'cheese totally separated from the dish, it was pretty disgusting. read more

The restaurant itself was large and had plenty of window views of the marina. We had a large group of 8 for lunch and our waitress did an excellent job attending our table throughout our lunch. The lunch menu had a variety of seafood options, pastas, and sandwiches. - Complimentary garlic bread - Bread was warm, so that was a plus. - Crab stuffed mahi mahi - I ordered this for lunch and it wasn't bad. The mahi mahi was battered, and the inside was stuffed with crab. The dish also came with rosemary potatoes, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. One thing that I did notice was that the fish was a little dry in certain parts. Overall, it was a hearty dish. Plenty of parking available. Separate men and women bathrooms. They sat us promptly according to our reservation which was nice, but the bread came out just minutes before our food, so a bit pointless. Service was great considering how crowded it was. The crab sandwich was way too rich. My turkey sandwich was a bit soggy (as were the fries). But the prime rib was really good. I've been meaning to try out Horatio's for a while and I had a chance when my mother came into town a couple of months ago. We came for an early dinner and I made a reservation through Open Table. I requested a window table with a view of the bay and they were happy to oblige. We started off with a wedge salad and it was plenty enough to share for two. I was actually a bit full from the salad alone with the tasty bread they served too. I ended up getting the prime rib dinner and my mother the salmon. My steak was huge and cooked perfectly. It came with mashed potatoes and some veggies and I couldn't finish it all even though it was really good. My mother enjoyed her salmon and she was able to finish her meal. I know we got dessert (maybe some sort of cheesecake) but I don't remember exactly. I do remember that I was happy overall with it. Most importantly the service was stellar. I wish I could remember the guy's name (tall, big frame with brown hair) but he was very good. He made us feel super comfortable - he adjusted the blinds as soon as the sun went down - and he made sure we were taken care of with our drinks and anything else during the meal. One star off though for the prices. As others have mentioned this place isn't cheap and the bill left quite a dent. I wasn't expected it to be high but not that high. So in the end just know that you'll get great food and service but the value isn't just there for the price. read more

I took my boyfriend here for dinner the day after his birthday, and it was our first time there. I would have to say that they made a great first impression. My boyfriend LOVED the atmosphere. He ordered the "Signature Rock Salt Roasted Prime Rib of Beef". it was definitely a lot larger than we thought it would be and it tasted great. I ordered the "Lobster Pot Pie" which was DELICIOUS. Yummy. We also had the "Clam Chowder", best I have ever tasted. and for dessert, we had the "Chocolate Indulgence Cake" which comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. it freakin melts in your mouth. all in all, one of the best dinners I've ever had. The service was really nice, really friendly. Definitely deserved a large tip. They have an online reservation on Open Table. ONe of my FAVORITE places to eat. It's fine dining, yet you can go in your jeans and a t-shirt and enjoy a fantastic meal in a great atmosphere without being hassled about a dress code. The crab and articoke dip is so delicious, but if you are going to order and appetizer order the sampler, because everything on it is to die for. The prime rib is always mouth watering and the steak is always tender and juicy. I honestly don't think that I have ever had a bad meal here. It also has a beautiful view of the San Leandro Marina and one a clear day, sunset is the best time to go and eat.
