Back in the day, this was my favorite 5 star restaurant with the Restaurants Unlimited brand because it was the most convenient. Kincaids in Jack London Square had the best menu. So it saddens me writing this review and I am probably still being generous with its rating. Quality/Quantity - Today we came for Happy Hour and got the following: Complimentary Bread - This is not automatic any more, you have to ask (in this case, ask twice...) Not as good as it was in the past. I remember I was able to eat like two loaves of this bread in the past. Today we each only ate a slice. HH Crab & Artichoke Tots - My daughter really likes this. I gave her my share. I could not taste the crab, but it did have generous slivers of artichokes HH Crispy Calamari - My favorite of the dishes, so good I ordered a second one. The second dish was even more generous in portions. I liked the combination of squid and artichokes. Am I sensing a theme tonight? HH Prime Rib Sliders - Generous meat, thank you. But the quality was just okay and the flavors were just okay. Definitely needed the Au Jus sauce. And to wash it all down: Hen House Stoked IPA. Hen House Incredible Pale Ale. Exotic Mojito - My daughter's choice, made well and strong. Atmosphere - Decent size. Actually the bar and lounge area is huge! The dining area is fairly large also, see pictures. Service - This is where they suffered the most. Our waiter could not handle his 5 tables. Service was amazingly slow. We had to flag him down several times for service. Sales would have been higher if he came more often as we were going to eat dinner here also... I also had to order my second beer early as I did not want to have to wait. He also forgot some of our requests. The silverware was not clean (water spots all over), we cleaned them ourselves as we did NOT want to wait while our food got cold. Lastly he must have either gotten off work or gone on break...? As a new waitress came later and she was just as slow... Even had to wait to pay and leave. Price - $58 + tip. Expensive for what we got. I guess people are paying for the "atmosphere" here which is less important to us locals. Owner Comment - Congrats on Landry's success since 1980. Horatio's has been part of the Landry's Family since September of 2019, who now own 600+ restaurants in 36 states and 15 countries, mostly upscale waterfront restaurants. I remember when Horatio's were more of a local small owner business under the Restaurants Unlimited Umbrella. We used to frequent Skates, Kincaids, and Horatios. Kincaids (now closed) was our favorite of the 3 as they had the best kids' menu. But we used to go to Skates on Thursdays as they had the best Thursday Happy Hour. "San Francisco dining and Experience" here in the East bay. My wife and I have been dining here for our "special occasions" and almost special occasions for more than fifteen years. Wait staff has never failed in their prescribed duties. Friendly, prompt and if somewhat overwhelmed, always double check with their customers. The head chef is available as time permits. Our food has always remained consistent in its sourcing, preparation and service. We have dined at this store with just two, and as many as eight. Each time we have been pleased. In my opinion ambiance, service and food prep of this establishment is par with any in the greater Bay Area. As a trained Chef, my recommendation is "Try them, you will like them". Enjoy. read more

We booked a private event here last year for a party under 25 people total and had amazing service with Alexis and with the team on the actual event for a farewell party for our boss. Having such good experience here before we decided to meet up here for brunch with some coworkers again and service was great. They have a box lunch special for $25 which includes soup or salad and an entree which was nice. Three of us chose the box lunch special and the shrimp scampi was super. We got the calamari and artichoke appetizer to share and that was tasty too. My clam chowder was yummy and full of clams in my serving. My fiancé introduced me to Horatio's, and I can honestly say without a doubt... I am a fan of this place! We made reservations for NYE, and we were seated right away. First, our server Esther was wonderful. She was very attentive. Our food came out so quickly too. They only had their holiday menu, which was actually a good deal. For $60-65 per person, you get your choice of soup or salad, main entree, and dessert. Dishes: 1) Warm brie with macadamia nut crust 2) Lobster bisque 3) Clam chowder 4) Almond crusted sea scallops 5) Prime rib 6) Creme brulee 7) Cheesecake Drinks: 1) Lychee lime soda 2) Amalfi stroll Overall, everything was delicious but the cheesecake for me was a miss. I had a wonderful experience at Horatio's this Easter Sunday. Chef Cameron , the head chef, went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary needs. He personally came out to introduce himself, handled my requests with professionalism, and made sure my meal was prepared thoughtfully. His kindness and genuine care for customers truly stood out--I really appreciated it as a regular guest. Our server, Cydney was polite, attentive, and throughout our visit. She helped make the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. Thanks to both of them, Easter Sunday with my mother was especially pleasant and memorable. I'm very grateful for the excellent service and care! I would like to also give 5 stars to my server, Alan in the past . Came here for my friends birthday. I had the Shrimp and Crab Fettuccini and what I loved about it was that it had chili flakes which gave it that slight spice kick to it which I loved. Also another plus to it was that, there was a lot of shrimp. Normally dishes like this have maybe 3 or 4 pieces of shrimp. I believe this dish had 5 nice size pieces of shrimp. Their complementary bread was also very delicious. I would like to say it had parmesan on top. We had to try our best not to get full with just their bread. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes and I don't think anyone had any issues. Only issue was that the salmon was slightly on the dry side but lemon and the sauce from my pasta helped it with flavor. They were pretty busy and the service was not bad at all. We did have to wave down our server from time to time, but they were right on their feet and got whatever we had asked for. We never had to wait long to be served. I get it, they were busy with a lot of tables but even just being a little more attentive to your tables will help. We wanted to ask for more bread, but it took a while for our water refills that we did not want to bother them or wait to long. My wife and I are not always able to get out much these days because we have a special need Son that requires a lot of attention. When we go places like Horatio's, we have to hire a babysitter for us to eat out. It's very important to us when we do this because we want to make it count. Also made something totally different from what they told me they could make. Pretty bad experience for me, but I think it was fine for everyone else who was on a fixed menu. They had 3 courses and the kitchen didn't bother to make me 3 courses. I just got one dish. Laughable service. I'm shocked I didn't know about this place before. It's in the marina and has such a cute charm to it. We shared a lobster bisque which was amazing , a cesar salad which also had enough dressing which I love, and filet mignot with potato's and asparagus. The bread they serve was so good too!! Also had a Malbec and old fashioned and it was really good. It's a little on the pricer side but nice if you are looking for a really good dinner for a special occasion or date night! I have been coming to this place for years with my family and I love the food however, you need to get some cameras in this establishment because I'm pretty sure that a waiter stole money from us. His name was Jeremy. when me and my friend went to the front to pay for our parties food we tried with card first which did not work so we decided to pay cash. my friend said he would pay $400 and i can just give $300. however the bill was over $700 so i took out an extra $100 bill and put it down as well. I counted it in front of the three of us $800. He said he had to go get change and would be right back. but when he came back to the table he told us we only gave $700. we ended up giving another $100 to cover the bill because it was our word against his and there's no cameras that we could've gone back to verify that we gave him the correct amount. Hmmm well gosh. Horatio's has always been the perfect date spot for me and my husband. We came for lunch the other week, though, and we were underwhelmed. It just didn't live up to what we know, love, and expect from our visits. I got the French dip, and my husband got a burger. My sandwich was pretty salty and the meat was very fatty. It was fine, but I didn't eat the whole thing and it was just overall kind of bland. My husband said the same about his burger. What a shame! read more

I was very excited to try the restaurant's Thanksgiving dinner after seeing the beautifully advertised menu, but unfortunately, the actual meal was a huge disappointment and nowhere near what the pictures promised. The lobster bisque arrived lukewarm and resembled canned soup rather than a fresh, flavorful bisque. The salad was drenched in dressing, although at least the lettuce was crisp. The main course--turkey, stuffing, and gravy--was overwhelmingly salty to the point of being nearly inedible. Other entrée options fared no better; the seafood trio featured small portions of overcooked, dry salmon and shrimp. The lone scallop was reportedly the only tasty component. Desserts were equally underwhelming. The pecan pie looked and tasted like a grocery store variety rather than a homemade/bakery-made treat, which was disappointing for a holiday meal. Most disheartening was the lack of a children's portion for the Thanksgiving dinner. When I made the reservation, I was explicitly told a kids' meal would be available. Upon arrival, this was not the case, and our children ended up eating mediocre, greasy grilled cheese sandwiches and bland pasta instead of a proper turkey dinner. This added to the overall sense of letdown. Overall, this meal fell far short of the warm, generous, and festive Thanksgiving dinner we had hoped for. Considering that Horatio's is a nice established "special occasions" restaurant (and the price of this meal), I really excepted a more inclusive and thoughtful dinner with better quality ingredients and more skillful culinary preparation. read more

Came here with my mom for our Thanksgiving dinner and we had a wonderful experience. This place has a kind of upscale nautical vibe but doesn't feel stuffy. I think the restaurant may have been a little louder this time as several groups/families were enjoying their meals, laughing, and having animated conversations but it just made the place feel a little livelier, which we enjoyed. I was also worried the staff might be a little stressed out with the holiday crowd but they were extremely attentive and hospitable. Our server was patient and welcoming, he even opened up the sunshades a bit more for us and other diners so we could get a more unobstructed view of the sunset. We took advantage of their three course meal option for the holiday and got the traditional Thanksgiving plate as well as the Seafood Trio. We had the Blue Cheese and Caesar salads as starters, Caesar was good but pretty standard and my mom really enjoyed her blue cheese salad. We were also served fresh baked rolls with a garlic butter topping that we both enjoyed but tried to avoid in order to have room for our meals. The seafood trio looked a little light but was honestly the right size and was well seasoned. For the Thanksgiving dinner plate, I enjoyed the Turkey slices and chunks of darker meat under them. I also appreciated that the mashed potatoes tasted homemade but I think I would order a little more gravy next time. The stuffing had good flavor but was a little too rich / hearty for me to eat too much of. I did notice that the meal did not have the freshly made cranberry sauce mentioned on the menu but not a deal breaker for me as I was more curious about it rather than actually missing it. Also the portions for this felt very generous to me, definitely kept the Thanksgiving leftovers tradition alive with a whole second meal for tomorrow. Finally, we got a slice of pumpkin pie and shared the creme brûlée. Unfortunately I was too preoccupied with capturing the gorgeous sunset so I forgot to take pictures of most of our food. Always love Horatio's, some times they slip up, but when they get back in their grove both service and food are consistently good. My family I can always count on Kristen and Ester to take care of us! Kristen has been our server more recently and she never lets us down! She has great enthusiasm, knows the menu well, and is approachable. The ambience hasn't changed since we've been going and we love it just the way it is, as its warm, inviting, and makes us feel like we're on a boat without the seasickness. I would be remiss if I didn't share a random and uncomfortable incident that took place this evening. A new food runner came to bring a dish to our table, asked us if there was anything else he could get us, letting us know he could get us anything we wanted. My mother asked for the house bread that we've always referred to as Focaccia, because it used to be made using that bread, if you know you know. He looked confused, so I explained. He adamantly corrected us on the type of bread that was used, and then started to say that he thought he heard something else and tried to start talking to my father in Spanish, who was caught off guard. Afterwards, the food runner turned to my mother and she firmly stated that she wasn't going to be speaking Spanish, that it wasn't something she could do. As if things couldn't get any more weird, he asks my mom if she wants to go have dinner at his house down the street. My parents and I were both caught off guard and stunned by what was playing out during our dinner. My mom adamantly shot down the guy stating she wasn't having dinner at Horatio's, and the guy persisted until our waitress came back to catch the end of it, where he finally retracted his offer. I know this behavior isn't typical for Horatio's, but I would be disappointed if this type of behavior continued and got in the way of the above standard, impecable, and professional service at Horatio's. read more

The service was outstanding, even though it was very busy. April 24 a month and a half later. Ordered the same exact thing not even close. We were so disappointed in the food and the service was just ok. Had to ask for things twice , overcharged for the captains meal by $4.00 and we were offered for the dessert to be to go then charged an additional to go fee $ .81. That was not disclosed. It was offered like she didn't want to wait for us to eat dessert. Didn't realize the extra charges till we got home. It's a shame it's not consistent and also that you have to double check your bill even though it's a few extra dollars. We were so looking forward to it since it was our wedding anniversary. I hate I can't remember my server's name but she was great; very attentive, nice & ensures her guests are happy. Calamari 3.9outta5 fried perfectly, artichoke hearts were a nice addition. Clam Chowder 4outta5 Warm creamy bowl of comfort. The tender, sweet clams & other savory ingredients made for a delightful spoonful over & over. I dipped the garlic bread in a few times. Crab & Shrimp fettuccine 2.7outta5 I'm not a big pasta fan especially w/white sauce but I'm forcing myself to try new things. The shrimp were nicely cooked. The pasta and garlic sauce were delicious. The spinach's earthy notes blended beautifully with the other flavors. The crab was a let down. There was no sweetness or brininess. It wasn't fresh and it tasted like it. Mysteriously, Tanzanika, our server graciously greets us at the table, she had been serving clients before us so it's not like she just rushed in to the restaurant. We finally ordered lunch (Salad & Cheeseburger w/fries) which was a bit of a wait. Noticed folks that arrived before us still haven't gotten their meals yet. Somewhat disappointed this happened, this is a first, hopefully it was just a one time quirk. Seems like Horatio's could hire additional help. I dined with my family for an early Mother's Day celebration.Service was great until we got to our table. We made reservations and did not receive our entrees until 2 hours after. We had a table full of empty glasses and only received one refill. When our entrees arrived the plates were hot and food cold as if there was a half hearted attempt to reheat our food. Also as we sat we noticed all the parties sat close to the time we were seated were already gone. Although an underwhelming appearance from the outside, Horatio's had a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere indoors from its family groups of customers, natural lighting, and spacious seating arrangements. Employees at the hostess podium gave a very aloof impression, not realizing we were waiting for them to seat us while they were chatting. Kaleb was our server, extremely attentive and great at working the tables! We raised a question as to if the seafood selection was caught locally, given this restaurant's prices and reviews- but were a bit disappointed to find that they are farm raised vs caught more locally. Overall, the presentation was pleasant; quality was average, regular, expected. Also, the in-person menu, and their kitchen menu are DIFFERENT! I ordered the crab & shrimp louie, it came with salmon instead. Ordered the crab stuffed sol, it came with crab stuffed SHRIMP. Glad we tried it out, wouldn't return for a 2nd time though. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Horatio's. Service: 2/5 When we walked in there was no host to greet us and one of the wait staff actually looked over at me and my partner and did not approach us to offer us a table. We thought we had walked in through the wrong entrance. Already off to a bad start. Our server was nice but wasn't super attentive despite there only being 3 other occupied tables. When he poured my drink for me he spilled some of it and failed to notice which was annoying. He also told us that he would bring us straws but never did. After we ordered, our food took way too long to come out. Considering this place has over 20 tables and was barely at 1/5th capacity, I strongly believe my pasta dish should not have taken 30 minutes to come out. Food: 1/5 We ordered the Oven Roasted Crab and Artichoke dip, Surf and Turf Linguine, and Pan Seared Halibut with Pea Puree. For drinks we got The Unveiling, their drink for two. First came the crab dip which was underwhelming. The bread it came with was soft and barely toasted and I would've preferred a toasted bread, but we can call it personal preference. The dip itself was okay but felt very light on the crab. Next, we got the free garlic bread. Strange to me that this would come out after our appetizer. This bread was average at best. Again, not toasted but maybe that's my personal preference. The bread was mildly crunchy on the exterior but way too chewy inside and tasted underbaked. These two dishes came out 10 minutes after we ordered. Now we wait... and we waited for 20 more minutes before our entrees made an appearance. Both dishes were overcooked and were not worth a 20+ minute wait (which doesn't even make sense for a restaurant that's pretty much empty). Halibut was overcooked and hard to cut through. Shrimp and steak were also overcooked and extremely chewy. My plate had so much oil at the bottom I barely ate the pasta, and just forced myself to eat the overcooked protein and call it a day. Pasta was ALSO overcooked. Ambiance: 2/5 The only redeeming quality this place has is it's location. Very beautiful views if you get a window seat during sunset. That's all I have to say. Don't sleep on Horatio's! To begin with, the atmosphere is unmatched. Eating fresh seafood with these views is something you can't beat. The service is immaculate as our big reservation was successfully accommodated for under a tight schedule. As soon as we arrived, our table was ready and it was perfectly arranged. Our server was the best, he was funny and always delivered despite how busy he was. He had multiple tables including our large party. I opted in for the Almond Crusted Scallops and they were amazing. However, I wish I received more for what it's worth. It didn't fill me enough. I wish there was more asparagus. Other than that, the presentation is amazing. Scallops were perfectly coated and balanced, just tiny. It comes with red peppers, mashed potatoes, and sauce. I enjoyed my Pinot Grigio paired up nicely. I probably wouldn't order this again only because of portion sizing (7/10) The bartenders were so sweet. Attended a birthday celebration for my 96 yr old Aunt last Saturday (8/22). The service was lousy as well as the food. The waiter dropped a Fisherman's Platter directly behind me. This resulted in all the sauces from the platter landing in my hair and on the back of my dress. No apologies and no assistance in helping me to clean up. Had to go to the ladies room and use cloth napkins from the table to clean my dress and hair. The Waiter did say that he informed the Manager, but no one ever came to address the situation. Customer Service is really lacking as well as menu choices and quality of food. Caramelized vegetables on my Pork Chop plate were hard as rock. I was not able to cut them. Dining at this establishment was a waste of money in addition to the bill I now have for laundering my dress (#Cleaners) and time spent washing my hair (I had recently visited the hair salon Thursday prior to the event). This is the 2nd time our family chose Horatio's for a family celebration and had substandard food and service. Prior experience they served cold Clam Chowder. We are definitely done with this establishment. read more

If I could give 4.5 stars I would. The service was excellent. Our waitress kept our waters full. She knew when to check in and did not do it when our mouths were full. The food was good. We had the shishto peppers. They were hot and crispy. Some were mild and others were spicy. We had the roast beef sliders. They were served with ajou on hawaiian rolls. We also had the calamari and artichokes. The were crispy. The mustard aioli and cocktail sauces were very tasty. The garlic bread was very garlicky. We shared a creme burlee. The restruant was clean. The music was deafening. It started out as background music but when we left I couldn't hear my dinner companion. This was our first Happy Hour dining experience. It was a good value. I recently attended a going away party for a dear friend and Horatio's was my friend's restaurant of choice. If you enjoy seafood- then this is the place for you. Conveniently located in the San Leandro Marina, there is lots of parking all around the restaurant. Walking in I see the host desk and lots of indoor seating inside. There's seating at the bar, inside the restaurant and in the back of the place for larger parties. There's plenty of windows all around so no matter where you sit, you've got a great view of the Marina. After dining, there are walking trails if you want to take a stroll around the Marina and the interior decor gives nautical vibes. They boast an extensive menu depending on the time/day that you come (including lunch, brunch, dinner, cocktail and happy hour). Our party of 15 showed up on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30. Our servers, McGyver (like the TV show) and Glenna were so personable, attentive and full of great menu suggestions. Pricing for lunch runs about $10-$35 which is about normal and in my opinion a good deal considering the quality of the food and portion sizes. Our servers suggested the Lunch Box special -for $25 you can order two items from (2) menus of an appetizer, soup, salad, sandwich or two entrees. I decided to go for the clam chowder and the seafood pesto pasta which was highly recommended. Here's my breakdown: STARTERS: We were served warm garlic bread immediately and it was right on time. Usually, I try not to fill up on the bread but I couldn't resist.... a nice slather of garlicky butter rested on top of the crust and the bread was nice, warm and soft- came with a plate of oils and herbs. YUM! ENTREES: I am a huge fan of clam chowder and this didn't disappoint. I got the cup and it was full of flavor and clams like I enjoy- the potatoes were diced pretty small but I really liked it overall. I'm also not a big pasta girl but the seafood pesto pasta was highly recommended by both servers so I trusted their expertise and they were right. The portion was so big I had to take 1/2 of it to go- it was filled with lots of salmon, asparagus, artichokes, carrots and fettucine noodles in a thick creamy sauce. Very flavorful! My friend orders the same thing each time she comes- it was an herb crusted chicken dish with creamy mashed potatoes and spinach. Going around the table, everyone mentioned how much they enjoyed their dishes. This is a great location for groups, a first date or a happy hour meet up with friends. CHECK THEM OUT! read more
