Came here for my friends birthday. I had the Shrimp and Crab Fettuccini and what I loved about it was that it had chili flakes which gave it that slight spice kick to it which I loved. Also another plus to it was that, there was a lot of shrimp. Normally dishes like this have maybe 3 or 4 pieces of shrimp. I believe this dish had 5 nice size pieces of shrimp. Their complementary bread was also very delicious. I would like to say it had parmesan on top. We had to try our best not to get full with just their bread. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes and I don't think anyone had any issues. Only issue was that the salmon was slightly on the dry side but lemon and the sauce from my pasta helped it with flavor. They were pretty busy and the service was not bad at all. We did have to wave down our server from time to time, but they were right on their feet and got whatever we had asked for. We never had to wait long to be served. I get it, they were busy with a lot of tables but even just being a little more attentive to your tables will help. We wanted to ask for more bread, but it took a while for our water refills that we did not want to bother them or wait to long. My wife and I are not always able to get out much these days because we have a special need Son that requires a lot of attention. When we go places like Horatio's, we have to hire a babysitter for us to eat out. It's very important to us when we do this because we want to make it count. They had 3 courses and the kitchen didn't bother to make me 3 courses. I just got one dish. Laughable service. I'm shocked I didn't know about this place before. It's in the marina and has such a cute charm to it. We shared a lobster bisque which was amazing , a cesar salad which also had enough dressing which I love, and filet mignot with potato's and asparagus. The bread they serve was so good too!! Hmmm well gosh. Horatio's has always been the perfect date spot for me and my husband. We came for lunch the other week, though, and we were underwhelmed. It just didn't live up to what we know, love, and expect from our visits. I got the French dip, and my husband got a burger. My sandwich was pretty salty and the meat was very fatty. It was fine, but I didn't eat the whole thing and it was just overall kind of bland. My husband said the same about his burger. What a shame! read more

Enjoyed a quiet weeknight dinner with a table in the main dining room with a lovely view and had a delicious meal! Wanted to try different options so started with a Caesar salad, I usually get the blue cheese salad. Also tried the shrimp appetizer special which had a Latin flair featuring strawberry and mango salsa and a slightly spicy sauce. It also had an avocado sauce and tortilla strips for texture. It was fun to switch it up from the coconut shrimp. Our mains were Pan Seared Salmon with black risotto rice and roasted carrots and the classic Chicken Dijon with mash potatoes and sautéed spinach. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the tasty tangerine beurre blanc added a freshness and brightness. The food was delicious and we appreciate the consistency with the food here. I was very excited to try the restaurant's Thanksgiving dinner after seeing the beautifully advertised menu, but unfortunately, the actual meal was a huge disappointment and nowhere near what the pictures promised. The lobster bisque arrived lukewarm and resembled canned soup rather than a fresh, flavorful bisque. The salad was drenched in dressing, although at least the lettuce was crisp. The main course--turkey, stuffing, and gravy--was overwhelmingly salty to the point of being nearly inedible. Other entrée options fared no better; the seafood trio featured small portions of overcooked, dry salmon and shrimp. The lone scallop was reportedly the only tasty component. Desserts were equally underwhelming. The pecan pie looked and tasted like a grocery store variety rather than a homemade/bakery-made treat, which was disappointing for a holiday meal. Most disheartening was the lack of a children's portion for the Thanksgiving dinner. When I made the reservation, I was explicitly told a kids' meal would be available. Upon arrival, this was not the case, and our children ended up eating mediocre, greasy grilled cheese sandwiches and bland pasta instead of a proper turkey dinner. This added to the overall sense of letdown. Overall, this meal fell far short of the warm, generous, and festive Thanksgiving dinner we had hoped for. Came here with my mom for our Thanksgiving dinner and we had a wonderful experience. This place has a kind of upscale nautical vibe but doesn't feel stuffy. I think the restaurant may have been a little louder this time as several groups/families were enjoying their meals, laughing, and having animated conversations but it just made the place feel a little livelier, which we enjoyed. I was also worried the staff might be a little stressed out with the holiday crowd but they were extremely attentive and hospitable. Our server was patient and welcoming, he even opened up the sunshades a bit more for us and other diners so we could get a more unobstructed view of the sunset. We took advantage of their three course meal option for the holiday and got the traditional Thanksgiving plate as well as the Seafood Trio. We had the Blue Cheese and Caesar salads as starters, Caesar was good but pretty standard and my mom really enjoyed her blue cheese salad. We were also served fresh baked rolls with a garlic butter topping that we both enjoyed but tried to avoid in order to have room for our meals. The seafood trio looked a little light but was honestly the right size and was well seasoned. For the Thanksgiving dinner plate, I enjoyed the Turkey slices and chunks of darker meat under them. I also appreciated that the mashed potatoes tasted homemade but I think I would order a little more gravy next time. The stuffing had good flavor but was a little too rich / hearty for me to eat too much of. I did notice that the meal did not have the freshly made cranberry sauce mentioned on the menu but not a deal breaker for me as I was more curious about it rather than actually missing it. Also the portions for this felt very generous to me, definitely kept the Thanksgiving leftovers tradition alive with a whole second meal for tomorrow. Finally, we got a slice of pumpkin pie and shared the creme brûlée. Unfortunately I was too preoccupied with capturing the gorgeous sunset so I forgot to take pictures of most of our food. Made an OpenTable reservation for a particular time, we arrived 30 minutes early. Instructed to sit, phone was ringing off the hook several times, host was off in the kitchen area. More folks arrive, again, phones continues to ring. No host ... an UberEats driver was there before us, still waiting patiently. Seems like Tuesday's are busy but...seriously. The UberEats driver finally gets his bag, felt sorry for him, not his fault. Again, we were told to sit, I insisted we sit at a table so we can review the menu. Why sit @ the Lobby Area near the restrooms? Well, the server isn't onsite yet said the host. Mysteriously, Tanzanika, our server graciously greets us at the table, she had been serving clients before us so it's not like she just rushed in to the restaurant. We finally ordered lunch (Salad & Cheeseburger w/fries) which was a bit of a wait. Noticed folks that arrived before us still haven't gotten their meals yet. Although an underwhelming appearance from the outside, Horatio's had a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere indoors from its family groups of customers, natural lighting, and spacious seating arrangements. Employees at the hostess podium gave a very aloof impression, not realizing we were waiting for them to seat us while they were chatting. Kaleb was our server, extremely attentive and great at working the tables! We raised a question as to if the seafood selection was caught locally, given this restaurant's prices and reviews- but were a bit disappointed to find that they are farm raised vs caught more locally. Overall, the presentation was pleasant; quality was average, regular, expected. Also, the in-person menu, and their kitchen menu are DIFFERENT! I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Horatio's. Service: 2/5 When we walked in there was no host to greet us and one of the wait staff actually looked over at me and my partner and did not approach us to offer us a table. We thought we had walked in through the wrong entrance. Already off to a bad start. Our server was nice but wasn't super attentive despite there only being 3 other occupied tables. When he poured my drink for me he spilled some of it and failed to notice which was annoying. He also told us that he would bring us straws but never did. After we ordered, our food took way too long to come out. Considering this place has over 20 tables and was barely at 1/5th capacity, I strongly believe my pasta dish should not have taken 30 minutes to come out. Food: 1/5 We ordered the Oven Roasted Crab and Artichoke dip, Surf and Turf Linguine, and Pan Seared Halibut with Pea Puree. For drinks we got The Unveiling, their drink for two. First came the crab dip which was underwhelming. The bread it came with was soft and barely toasted and I would've preferred a toasted bread, but we can call it personal preference. The dip itself was okay but felt very light on the crab. Next, we got the free garlic bread. Strange to me that this would come out after our appetizer. This bread was average at best. Again, not toasted but maybe that's my personal preference. The bread was mildly crunchy on the exterior but way too chewy inside and tasted underbaked. These two dishes came out 10 minutes after we ordered. Now we wait... and we waited for 20 more minutes before our entrees made an appearance. Both dishes were overcooked and were not worth a 20+ minute wait (which doesn't even make sense for a restaurant that's pretty much empty). Halibut was overcooked and hard to cut through. Shrimp and steak were also overcooked and extremely chewy. My plate had so much oil at the bottom I barely ate the pasta, and just forced myself to eat the overcooked protein and call it a day. Pasta was ALSO overcooked. Ambiance: 2/5 The only redeeming quality this place has is it's location. Very beautiful views if you get a window seat during sunset. That's all I have to say. My first time at Horatio's was a great experience. I enjoyed the nautical theme of the restaurant design and had a great window table overlooking the docks and bay. The food and service were outstanding. Tennille was our server and she was attentive, friendly and very helpful with the food recommendations. There were so many good things to choose from between the brunch and lunch menus, that we had a hard time narrowing down what to try first. Tennille didn't disappoint, because the Salmon BLTA she recommended was the best that I've ever had. I recently attended a going away party for a dear friend and Horatio's was my friend's restaurant of choice. If you enjoy seafood- then this is the place for you. Conveniently located in the San Leandro Marina, there is lots of parking all around the restaurant. Walking in I see the host desk and lots of indoor seating inside. There's seating at the bar, inside the restaurant and in the back of the place for larger parties. There's plenty of windows all around so no matter where you sit, you've got a great view of the Marina. After dining, there are walking trails if you want to take a stroll around the Marina and the interior decor gives nautical vibes. They boast an extensive menu depending on the time/day that you come (including lunch, brunch, dinner, cocktail and happy hour). Our party of 15 showed up on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30. Our servers, McGyver (like the TV show) and Glenna were so personable, attentive and full of great menu suggestions. Pricing for lunch runs about $10-$35 which is about normal and in my opinion a good deal considering the quality of the food and portion sizes. Our servers suggested the Lunch Box special -for $25 you can order two items from (2) menus of an appetizer, soup, salad, sandwich or two entrees. I decided to go for the clam chowder and the seafood pesto pasta which was highly recommended. Here's my breakdown: STARTERS: We were served warm garlic bread immediately and it was right on time. Usually, I try not to fill up on the bread but I couldn't resist.... a nice slather of garlicky butter rested on top of the crust and the bread was nice, warm and soft- came with a plate of oils and herbs. YUM! ENTREES: I am a huge fan of clam chowder and this didn't disappoint. I got the cup and it was full of flavor and clams like I enjoy- the potatoes were diced pretty small but I really liked it overall. I'm also not a big pasta girl but the seafood pesto pasta was highly recommended by both servers so I trusted their expertise and they were right. The portion was so big I had to take 1/2 of it to go- it was filled with lots of salmon, asparagus, artichokes, carrots and fettucine noodles in a thick creamy sauce. Very flavorful! My friend orders the same thing each time she comes- it was an herb crusted chicken dish with creamy mashed potatoes and spinach. Don't sleep on Horatio's! To begin with, the atmosphere is unmatched. Eating fresh seafood with these views is something you can't beat. The service is immaculate as our big reservation was successfully accommodated for under a tight schedule. As soon as we arrived, our table was ready and it was perfectly arranged. Everything on the menu is solid and delicious! The chefs love to cook and take pride in the dishes they serve. The restaurant reminds you of an old ship and has a cool laidback vibe. It's causal but also nice enough for a special occasion or date night. Perfect for large parties and meetings as well. They have a great happy hour menu from M-F. I have been eating here for a long time and every time I come I leave happy and say why don't I eat here more often! My wife and I always sneak away to Horatio's every now and again by ourselves, sometimes we take our kids, or sometimes, we go with our big extended family during the holidays. We are coming from the Tri-valley, so sometimes we like to go for dinner because it's 80-90* at home, but 60's by the bay at Horatio's for a nice cool down and nice sunset view from the restaurant. The food is good - I almost always order the chart house burger, clam chowder, and a house salad, or if it's a holiday, the holiday offering. I always enjoy the burger, but what we enjoy more than that, are the people. Our servers are always nice. The place is always clean. The manager Dennis always recognizes my wife and I, will come by if he can to say hello, or if he's super busy, acknowledges us with a friendly wave. Our last visit to Horatio's, we ran into an issue with some Landry's rewards and gift cards. Not sure what happened, but Dennis got it all straightened out and got us squared away. The previous manager Bill was the same. That tells me that the people they staff have to fit a certain standard for customer care, friendliness, and a welcoming and warming demeanor and that's probably one of the biggest things that keep us coming back. We had reservations, but it took a 5 minute conference among three people at the hostess counter to seat us. We were never quite sure who among them was the actual host as we weren't told what the hold up was or what the discussion was about. The server Maria was great, she was quick, responsive, and came by our table regularly to make sure we were ok. But the cocktails were not as described, apparently they were out of lavender dust, so there was a very sloppy, runny sugar rim on one of the cocktails, the other was served half empty. The coconut shrimp appetizer was advertised as being served with crispy noodles, but arrived without. When we asked Maria about that, she ran to the kitchen and brought us some. The almond crusted scallops were served with room temp buttered mashed potatoes which had hardened to a rock in the middle of the plate. The Fisherman's Platter, which was supposed to be a mix of beer battered, tempura, and almond crusted seafood arrived all deep fried in beer batter The view was beautiful, the food edible, the server fantastic. If it hadn't been for Maria, this place would have gotten another star less. But no means would I call it a great restaurant. It felt like a slightly upscale Denny's with cocktails and marine theme.
