Enjoyed a quiet weeknight dinner with a table in the main dining room with a lovely view and had a delicious meal! Wanted to try different options so started with a Caesar salad, I usually get the blue cheese salad. Also tried the shrimp appetizer special which had a Latin flair featuring strawberry and mango salsa and a slightly spicy sauce. It also had an avocado sauce and tortilla strips for texture. It was fun to switch it up from the coconut shrimp. Our mains were Pan Seared Salmon with black risotto rice and roasted carrots and the classic Chicken Dijon with mash potatoes and sautéed spinach. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the tasty tangerine beurre blanc added a freshness and brightness. The food was delicious and we appreciate the consistency with the food here. Needed to have seafood for my birthday but was tired of the same old places. My mom found this on a quick google search and we decided to give them a shot. For a party of 8 on a Sunday afternoon they sat us fairly quickly. It was definitely packed with graduation parties and retirement celebrations but had enough space to host us all. Our server came out quickly (before our entire party arrived) and brought out waters while we waited. Once everyone sat down we got garlic bread that was DELICIOUS, maybe I was hungry but it tasted soooo good. We got the kids orders going and got the Tasting Sampler as a starter. The sampler was amazing, the Roasted Crab artichoke dip was the best I've ever had. My husband could have had a bucket of their Teriyaki tenderloins and rice. Last you can never go wrong with coconut shrimp. For entrees, we had the Shrimp Scampi, Chophouse burger, 2 kids burgers, and Cajun Chicken Fettuccine. I can only speak for the Shrimp Scampi but everything was delicious according to my family. The shrimp scampi was very well seasoned and surprisingly filling. The only complaint I had and the only reason this review is a 4 star was the slow service. I understand it was a busy Sunday lunch but it took an hour to get our food out and we barely saw or server in that time. Best restaurant in the San Leandro Marina! The food and service are both amazing! Our server Angela was so sweet and accommodating and knew the menu well to help us make our entree selections. Everything on the menu is solid and delicious! The chefs love to cook and take pride in the dishes they serve. The restaurant reminds you of an old ship and has a cool laidback vibe. My wife and I always sneak away to Horatio's every now and again by ourselves, sometimes we take our kids, or sometimes, we go with our big extended family during the holidays. We are coming from the Tri-valley, so sometimes we like to go for dinner because it's 80-90* at home, but 60's by the bay at Horatio's for a nice cool down and nice sunset view from the restaurant. The food is good - I almost always order the chart house burger, clam chowder, and a house salad, or if it's a holiday, the holiday offering. I always enjoy the burger, but what we enjoy more than that, are the people. Our servers are always nice. The place is always clean. The manager Dennis always recognizes my wife and I, will come by if he can to say hello, or if he's super busy, acknowledges us with a friendly wave. Our last visit to Horatio's, we ran into an issue with some Landry's rewards and gift cards. Not sure what happened, but Dennis got it all straightened out and got us squared away. The previous manager Bill was the same. That tells me that the people they staff have to fit a certain standard for customer care, friendliness, and a welcoming and warming demeanor and that's probably one of the biggest things that keep us coming back. Good energy from the concierge to our server and the other support staff clearing tables and bringing water everyone was smiling and welcoming nice young people moving around in comparison in my past visit there have been a much older crowd working tables at this establishment and I have been coming to here for many years. Today, we are celebrating Administrative Professionals Day me and my team and there was a special menu for this occasion which I thought was awesome and very considerate of the establishment. I had the open face crab salad as my main course everyone else had the crab and shrimp fettuccine we also got a first course of a soup or salad in which two of us had the blue cheese salad and the other three had clam chowder. The fettuccine seemed to be a hit as well as the Clam Chowder. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad and then we also went in for key lime pie dessert it was a huge piece so we shared a couple of pieces amongst the group overall it was the food was really good service was really good I think they could do some upgrades to the atmosphere in the restaurant cuz it's looks the same as it always has for like the last 20 years of me eating here but nevertheless I am happy they are keeping people interested in dining there. read more

I went here for a work holiday party. The ambience is pretty nice. The place itself is old, but it's by the waterfront so I feel like at night is probably a lot better. The complimentary bread was okay, it was pretty dry and although it had some butter concoction on it didn't help at all. I had the clam chowder as an appetizer and it was very very salty. It did had a good amount of clams in it though. For entrée I had the Chicken Dijon, the dish was all in all good but the mashed potatoes were okay didn't taste very smooth, The chicken was cooked very well. For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake and it was delicious and decadent. Came here a few days for an early lunch. We were seated fairly quickly by the staff. The restaurant had a nice view of the ocean and the incoming and outgoing planes from Oakland airport. We ordered our drinks and it took while for them to arrive at the table. The business didn't seem to be that busy. That was a bit of a turn off for me off the get go. But then the service started to pick up. They delivered hot fresh garlic bread to the table. That bread was flavorful warm and soft. We ordered two of those that were complimentary. I ordered the Asiago crusted sole. This was a great dish and everything tasted really good. The fish was moist and the crust had a nice crunch and wasn't soggy. It was served with a side a rice and veggies. I would've preferred mashed potatoes over the rice. The rice was a bit dry. We also ordered calamari for the table. I loved that this was a mix of veggies as well such as artichokes. It was a nice combination. The others ordered the fettuccini and fish tacos. They said it was pretty good as well. My first time at Horatio's was a great experience. I enjoyed the nautical theme of the restaurant design and had a great window table overlooking the docks and bay. The food and service were outstanding. Tennille was our server and she was attentive, friendly and very helpful with the food recommendations. The margarita was good too, it had a much stronger kick to it and was not as fruity but still very good. For food, we started off with an appetizer. We shared the spicy seared teriyaki beef tidbits. The chef brought it out to us. The presentation was really nice, but the overall taste, it was super salty! It was overly salty. Both me and my date felt that way and there was nothing that made it better. We did not send it back or say anything as we tried to eat it. Had it not been so salty, it would have been much better. This menu item had great potential but the saltiness really made it hard to give it a fair review. For my entree, I got the Crab and Shrimp Fettuccine, and he got the American Wagyu Sirloin. I loved the crab and shrimp fettuccine. There was either crab or shrimp in every bite. The flavor was really good and it was so creamy. I highly recommend. My date got the Wagyu sirloin and he liked it. He got double mashed potatoes because he did not want the vegetables that came with it. He enjoyed his meal too. Overall, the experience was nice. We were a little bummed because the bar closed and we weren't able to order another drink. We stayed at the restaurant beyond closing. The restaurant closed at 9PM and we were able to stay an hour past closing until 10PM. Eventually, the manager had to come and kick us out lol but it was all good. We definitely overstayed. There's much to like about Horatio's. The open dining area with the great views of the Marina. Nice bar area for drinks. Lots of parking available. But that's where it ends for me. My experience both with service and food was below standard. Especially considering the prices for the food. So let's start with what is always most important, the food: Chophouse burger: this was a very plain cheese burger with stale bread. The regular ingredients like lettuce, tomato, and a side of fries. It. Was. Not. Good. And how do you grade a $17 burger when an In-N-Out burger or burgers for 2/3's the price are way better. This is a case where I'm paying for the view of the water. All the food I saw my friends order as well as other tables looked drab and drearily made. The service was slow. Honestly I don't know how this place stays afloat. With the food and service, this restaurant should've sunken into the Marina a long time ago. Needless to say I won't be back. Too expensive for mediocre food and poor service. read more

We have been to Horatio's several times over the years and have generally enjoyed our visits there, but this last visit was terrible. We were there with a large group (22 people) and I understand that when you attend a restaurant with a large group one must be patient, but this was ridiculous. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks came out sporatically and we had to ask multiple times for water. TWO HOURS later they took our meal order and another hour after that the food finally came out - again sporatically. One end of the table got their food and 20 minutes later most of the rest of the table got their food, but the person sitting next to me didn't get hers for yet another 20 minutes after that. They didn't tell us about any specials. We asked about prime rib and they said they had it, but then came back 15 minutes later to tell us there was no prime rib. They also ran out of clam chowder. The food was OK, but came out looking dry and unappetizing. My plating at home looks better. We didn't order dessert because we'd already been there for 3 1/2 hours! There was no aknowledgement or apology for the terrible service. We spent A LOT of money there that night, but none of us will be returning. read more

I got the shrimp scampi I didn't take a photo because there are sooooo many of them on Yelp already but there was none of my husbands dish! He got the Grilled mahi mahi which was really good. Light and fluffy fish with an array of veggies like cauliflower and some sort of corn purée. He said it was really good and enjoyed every bite. This time I did order the lobster bisque which in all honesty was the best lobster bisque soup I ever had! Dip the complimentary bread they give you with that bomb butter garlic and I tell you your in for a real treat! The service is always pretty decent I do think for the establishment it could be better but the food is so good you can ignore it. We had been led to believe this was a really nice restaurant. But when we showed up on a Sunday evening, we were not impressed at all. We had reservations, but it took a 5 minute conference among three people at the hostess counter to seat us. But the cocktails were not as described, apparently they were out of lavender dust, so there was a very sloppy, runny sugar rim on one of the cocktails, the other was served half empty. The coconut shrimp appetizer was advertised as being served with crispy noodles, but arrived without. When we asked Maria about that, she ran to the kitchen and brought us some. The almond crusted scallops were served with room temp buttered mashed potatoes which had hardened to a rock in the middle of the plate. The Fisherman's Platter, which was supposed to be a mix of beer battered, tempura, and almond crusted seafood arrived all deep fried in beer batter The view was beautiful, the food edible, the server fantastic.
