Brought my Mom to a follow up appt with Dr Rosen at this location. Easy to pull up in front of the automatic door and get my Mom out. She uses a walker but there are wheelchairs right by the door. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful at checkin and checkout. Dr Rosen and his staff are amazing. Right across the street is several restaurants and stores so it was easy to grab lunch after. I've had an eye exam and gotten glasses here years ago and loved this place. My Moms cataract surgery went very well. Very easy to communicate with staff outside of appt times. read more

What awful customer service. I twice tried to chat on their website to schedule an appointment and no one responded either time. When I called I was put on hold for a long time and ultimately chose the option requesting a call back. It took hours to receive that call. That employee forwarded me to another employee where I had to leave another message which took hours for a call back. The first available appointment for a (short) consultation is 15 weeks out. I used to see Dr Branner before he retired and he was wonderful, did a great job with my cataract surgery. I chose a new dr from the practice and I think he was competent. I had no problems with my eyes. I paid for and had a refraction done so I could get new glasses. The refraction was done by a tech, not sure what the experience level and/or competence was, but long story short, I had the glasses made at two different places. I thought the first pair was a bad job on the part of Warby Parker as I couldn't see out of them nearly as well as my old glasses. Took them back and went to Costco for new pair since they did such a good job on my old ones. They came back and still couldn't see well. Ended up going to an optometrist and he finally got the RX right. The tech at Horizon really screwed it up, adding so much "axis" for astigmatism that it made everything blurry. I won't be going back there. Zero confidence in this group now. read more

Drove from Matthews to have my eyeglasses, which I purchased at their Waverly location, to be adjusted. Signed in, waited about 15 mins and a hispanic tech asked what I needed. Told him they needed to be adjusted since they kept falling down my nose. I'm 5'11, he was about 5'7 and stood below me looking at my glasses. Took them, bent the nose pieces and said "here try them now". They still slipped so he bent the ear pierces all over the place. I looked at them and him and asked "are you kidding"? It became obvious that since it was 11:30 with a noon closing time what was going on. Never have I had someone adjust my glasses in that manner, meanwhile another woman was sitting appropriately at the desk having hers adjusted properly. I get the DEI hiring stuff but at least do you job. read more

Dr. Branner, in whom I had great trust, retired over a year ago. At that time, I received a letter from Horizon stating that someone would be in touch with me to reschedule my next appointment with another doctor. No one ever got it touch with me. I finally called and made an appointment for November 12. I never got any text reminders as is common with other health providers. Finally, I called on the 12th to confirm my appointment. There was no appointment in their system. So I made another appointment over the phone for several months away, losing more ground it getting my annual eye examination - now two years. Yet, I still have received no text or other communication to confirm this appointment. Guess I am done at Horizon. I have an appointment at CEENTA and have received a text confirming that appointment. read more

Be prepared to spend 2.5 to 3 hours waiting for procedures that take maybe 20 minutes. I have been there three times and it's the same every time. This is a very high-volume practice. Patients are loaded in and pushed through like cattle through a chute. The doctor seems to know what she's doing but spends very little time with me. This was my last visit to Horizon. read more

Horrible experience! The friendliness of the front office staff was the only positive thing of our appt! I called and explained our situation to the scheduler & accepted the 1st available appointment so that our needs could be met. At our appt, I paid the co-pay for her evaluation and opted to pay an additional $40 for a test so that they would not have to dilate her eyes. The provider was nice enough but the entire exam from the tech to the provider seemed rushed. When we finished our exam, I was informed that I had to return in a week for a 60-90 minute Contact Lens Evaluation and that they did not usually do a same day evaluation (which should have been explained to us when I scheduled the appointment)! I was also told that she would have to have her eyes dilated- why did I pay the fee for her not to be when she has to be for her contact lens evaluation??? In ALL of our past experience (this is 1st for us at this practice) we have received a trial pair and come back in a week. Horizon explained that they do not do it that way and that even if they could have worked it in to meet our needs, they would not have been able to because they have to order her lens, which is understandable but how long does it take for them to come in??? I called another practice, and the situation and they were able to work us in and get us evaluated for contacts and have a trial pair and then come back in a week for evaluation of how she is doing and she will not have to be dilated! I did have to pay for another evaluation and could only use my insurance for the contacts since our benefits were wasted at Horizon but their customer service was MUCH better!!! I would never recommend Horizon to anyone unless you want to waste time, money and leave disappointed!!! read more

I hate to give such a high score to a business that has given me so much difficulty, but the doctor I saw, Dr. Ryder, seems to know what he is doing and at this point he seems to think I will have a successful outcome. The surgery sounded really complicated but everything seems to have gone well based on what he has said. Other people in the actual office have been nice and helpful. I have been to three locations because my first appointment was wherever they sent me in order to see the doctor as soon as possible. I will say Dr. Ryder called me himself a couple of times, once because I missed my appointment due to illness. He said it was urgent that I get this surgery. The other time he called me it was because a way had been found to get me an appointment sooner after the one I missed. I think he called me one or two more times before my first review. I was given appointments at more convenient locations when they could be scheduled, but my appointment the day after the surgery had to be at one particular location. For the second surgery, there was a problem which is described in detail in the review of Novant Health-Charlotte Outpatient Surgery. Dr. Ryder was concerned about my ability to cope afterward and he wanted to wait until after an evaluation before going ahead with the surgery. But I was unable to reach him in time to do it that day and while he worked to make sure he could do it soon because it was urgent, he wasn't able to find a time when he could and he referred me to his colleague Dr. Weidman who was older and wore a white coat instead of scrubs, at least the first time. He has a different personality that I am more comfortable with and seems to know what he is doing. He (and an office employee) assured me no problem was too small to call about, and there would be a doctor on call. We'll see. He even seemed to have a sense of humor about a problem I had during the surgery that the anesthesiologist had to solve. I did have to call about some problems and I had to leave a message but got a call back. One problem didn't turn out to be a problem and the other was eye drops that ran out on a weekend. and while I was told I should be fine, at least I had an appointment on Tuesday, but other than that it wasn't an easy problem to solve. I saw Dr. Ryder again and what my cousin said after meeting him for the first time was that he is all business. and to that I can add he is friendly enough. Dr. Weidman is more like the old country doctor who made house calls. My last time with him he was really nice about having spent time with me. I did not know the requirements for insurance coverage of eye drops. My cousin got one of the bottles at the pharmacy after bringing me home after the first appointment after the surgery. The other was given to me by Dr. Ryder. While I somehow overlooked the first communication from the insurance company, I was watching for insurance paperwork later. When I saw the eye drops weren't covered and I called the insurance company, I was told the doctor had to give prior approval. And the paperwork said the company would cover a prescription only if there wasn't something cheaper such as a generic version. With some effort, I finally got a response from someone who worked with Dr. Ryder and was told I could get cheaper drugs than the eye drops my cousin got and the ones I had just run out of. When I was referred to this doctor, I got a call with a recorded message that said to call a number. I actually picked up the phone so the message was not left, and it was not repeated. I went online and found the number for appointments. I had to wait a really long time. I may have chosen the option to be called back but that doesn't work. I had difficulty with the patient portal when trying to tell the doctor additional information about my situation. There was no option other than to call that number again. I tried to submit a message asking for help and got no help. When getting my first appointment, I finally got through and was told I have to be referred. I said I was. I was told contact the office that referred me and even then I had difficulty getting through to the right person, who eventually called me and said if I couldn't get through, she would call them herself. Somehow I did get through and was almost given an appointment a month in the future for something urgent. No, it has to be sooner. It was a little sooner. I did later get a call back saying the doctor wanted to see me sooner. I did not get to go then but rescheduling was a nightmare. I could have kept the appointment I already had, but this was urgent And it's only because of that fact that I didn't try going somewhere else. And what about emergencies? After hours, leave a message after a very annoying high-pitched beep. A different problem required going to Dr. Wang. She was nice enough but didn't dress professionally. The problem is getting better. She also made sure to give me generics. read more

Saw Dr. Syracuse in Moorseville and found him and the staff to be highly competent. My issue is the phone access to the practice. They funnel all calls to one number and I ALWAYS WAIT for 15 minutes or more. There doesn't appear to be any way to leave a message. It's highly unprofessional and dismissive of their customers. I feel like I should talk with a spokesperson for the HorizonEye Care, as a Corp. I have emails, voice mails, conversations, with staff, schedulers at the Cotswold office over the past 10,12 months. This is partially my new health issues, very serious diagnoses. I had surgery done on my left eye. I still think you have ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid , so I suggest you go on to Duke so you need to make an appt. We cannot see you for a post op , or anymore due to no shows. I had an office surgery done 6 weeks ago. I cannot see out of that eye. I have to cover it to read, use my phone, see TV. Cornea is scratched. The Dr. is very knowledgeable but the treatment was not. Was it due to miscommunication from his staff to patients? Partially.yes I was examined in Feb told I had inflammation and to use a new eyedrops for 4 weeks then return for re-exam. I left with a 4 week appt. During that 4 weeks I got a call telling me I had a surgery appt " tomorrow" , wanting to confirm it. I said no that's wrong . I have an appt. for another exam . No, she said, that's your post op. Unless plans changed, my inflammation was assumed gone? I was not scheduled for surgery . She finally said no they canceled surgery and post op . I mentioned the 4 week exam, no that is cancelled, so week later I called, and called LM what now. I eventually was given an appt. . At that appt. I was told I should go to Duke, to a specialist on Ocular Ciccatrichial Pemphigoid. A serious autoimmune Disease that could blind me. So I do not need the biopsy . Wii Dr at Duke do it? What about electrolysis to permanently remove 14 eyelashes under eyelid that are scratching my cornea, also on both lowers? Yes you still need those removed, I will do those. They may have to be done several times to permanently stop growth . Not sure about biopsy, they usually are negative even though it is that disease. I understood, it's autoimmune. I was scheduled next week . Had both procedures done . I had to reschedule post op. No we cannot see you, just follow-up with Duke. I cannot see out of that eye. I have to cover it to see, to read look at my phone, see TV , computer. It has been painful every time I blink . Imagine . I have no Rx eyedrops. for pain, inflammation. I have no referral to Duke. read more

I do not recommend Horizon Eye Care and will not return. This is a "quantity rather than quality" practice. Appointments are rushed and procedures hastily explained. The patients appear to be mostly Medicare or Medicaid-subsidized. Go elsewhere for better service and to ensure your vision is priority. read more

Dr James has zero bedside manner and was just plain unfriendly. He had no interest in me or my eye care. Ironically, a family member had an appointment with him right after I did and had the same experience. Her questions were not answered and she was left feeling completely unseen. Horizon needs to assign Dr James courses on positive patient interaction because he is devoid of this skill. Explaining his diagnosis and prescribed treatment plan is not asking too much from the doctor you have hired to treat you. read more

Great service. Dr. Krug has been taking care of my vision needs for a number of years and I normally can schedule and appointment at the Huntersville Office. I have on one of two occasions due to various circumstances, visited him here in the Cotswold location. Since my last visit in Huntersville in January, my vision has changed and when I visited him in Huntersville about six weeks ago, he determined while I had had small cataracts in both eye for a number of years, they had grown and it was time to do something about it. They did a bevy of tests in Huntersville but there were two measurements that they did not have the instruments in Huntersville but did in Cotswold. Therefore a trip to Cotswold to get ready for surgery in two weeks. Some confusion on my part, I had written down 8 am but when they called, they said, 8:30 am. Considering the agony of the drive down I-77 in the morning, we tried to beat the traffic and left he house at 6:30 and it still took an hour to drive the 25 miles in insane traffic. We went ahead and walked in about 7:45am and they were just turning on the computers and checked me in and shortly after 8:00 my name was called. Turned out I was schedules for three things not one. First was a physical was basically just a routine screening of history, blood pressure which was slightly elevated but if you have ever driven I-77 through construction, you'll know why, and listened to heart and lungs. I'm breathing so I passed. Next visit was with a very professional young lady who proceeded to do topographical mapping of both eyes along with an ultrasound. Talk about a perfectionist, she kept with the mapping until she finally got what she wanted which included physically listing my eyelid to get it right. Note I had both eyes done but surgery is only on one eye for now but the second will hopefully done shortly thereafter. Lat but not least was the admissions counselor who went over all of the forms, prescriptions, maps to surgery etc. Only other time I think I have signed and initialed so many times was when I bought my house.. Honestly I'm not complaining because she was very through and we did the paperwork for two eye to save time later. I was very impressed. Sounds like it was a lot and it was and it flowed well. From the time we started with the PA till I left was only a little over 1 hour 15 minutes. In the past at other places, I've waited that long from check in till just being called back. Very efficient, very professional and the level of service and caring can not be described and it was appreciately. read more

I let Dr Randal Stein do surgery on my glaucoma around two years ago. Division got completely worse than what it was before the surgery. He wanted to do glaucoma surgery again and I thought I'd a second opinion with Duke Eye Center and decided to let them to do the surgery And the next week. I got a call from Randal Stein 's office saying that they no longer want me as a patient because I let Duke university do the surgery. Continue my care with Duke. They no longer want me as a patient personally, I thank him for doing that because if you messed up the ad once and you eager to go back in and do surgery again why would I want you to do surgery And Duke treating me much better? They were so much better and pleasant and kind and explain things more thoroughly than what Horizon Eye Care did so I never wanna go back to Horizon Eye Care and advise anyone else if you're gonna get a second opinion, you better watch out they might cut you loose also . So the with you I wanna give to Horizon Eye Care and Randal Stein is to be cautious of who you let treat you. I will give Horizon Eye Care a star and a half. read more

I have two younger children ages eight and 11 you've been coming here for years, the staff absolutely goes out of their way to ensure that they have a positive experience, explaining everything thoroughly and taking time out not rushing him. When my optometrist moved to a practice that was not convenient for me, I checked around and decided on Horizon Eye Care. A larger practice with offices around Charlotte should work better for me and my travel schedule. So I called and was able to make an appointment for the same day. I was quoted a price for the eye exam, plus an additional cost for a contact lens exam. The Cotswold location is a free standing building with a large parking lot. The waiting room is large. I'd expect that with 8 or 9 doctors on call and 26 exam rooms. This is a large practice. My name was called shortly after time (I had a lot of paperwork!) and I was brought back to an exam room where my eyes were checked, my pupils were dilated and I was given a thorough check by at least two eye professionals before I was done. And then, I was brought over to the contact lens area where I got another brief exam, I was fitted for lenses (I had brought my old box with me) and I was given a fresh pair to "try on." In the end, nearly 90 minutes later, the price was different than what I was quoted. More for the initial exam and less for the contact lenses. Weird, but I won't argue with a lower cost. read more

She started making faces at the computer screen and even showed the lady next to her and they said nothing was wrong. I had to ask if there was something wrong and with a smirk she said the exam was booked at the same time as the Dr appointment. While I'm waiting for my mom I can hear them complaining about every single patient they saw. Very toxic environment. After the appointment the older blond lady at check out looked miserable and was quite rude too. They have zero customer service skills and they even misspelled her name. It's like herding cattle in this place. They WAY overbook. The technicians that did my testing were great, the doctor was OK just moving as fast as he could, so not a lot of important time spent with me, the patient. The BIG problem that I had was the front desk staff. So rude, and not a good first impression at all. I felt like I was at the DMV, dealing with that type of attitude. The black female staff member only seemed to select people in the line to help that she deemed good enough for her. They play games then play even more games if they don't like the review you give them, they dismiss you as a patient. I gave them my honest review. My review notification popped up before even walking out of my appt. If they didn't want a review then why ask? After having two horrific appointments with two different doctors who continually harass me that I have Sjogren's disease (after being tested negative) and being talked over when telling them how my issue with my eyes came to be, I gave them a negative review. Their office didn't like that, called me and told me they were dismissing me as a patient. I've read just as worse reviews online about the same doctor, so I wondered if they dismissed that person too and they only have a 2.0 review now. Horizon was "it" back in the early 2000 when I was a kid, idk what happened . They called me three times the next day and left a voicemail and a message in my portal about my eye drops which confused me because they dismissed me the day before, so why were they still trying to prescribe me eye drops. I messaged and called them back no response. Finally Wednesday I finally got ahold of the project manager who called me to tell me they were dismissing me the Thursday before because of my negative review and who had called me the next day and left a voicemail to call her back. I told her I was returning her call she said "I think we're going to let you go as a patient". I told her, "you called me last week and told me this" and she made up some reason for why she was telling me again. I asked her why did the eye doctor message me about my prescribed eye drops a day after they decided to remove me as a patient. She gave some B.s reason. My neurologist said I'm at risk of permanent vision loss and I notice this more day by day, which was why he referred me back to Horizon and the Mallard Creek location since it's close by, but you have these messy eye doctors who play around and don't give a care about you, walk in the room asking you why you're there, not "how you're doing?", diagnosing you with the same thing your previous eye doctor just diagnosed you with 6 months ago down to the same treatments and everything, playing God and diagnosing you with an illness you don't even have. All they had to do was get my previous information from my previous doctors instead of asking me. I'm not an eye doctor. They said they don't get information from other eye doctors offices. I first came to Horizon as a child (teen) back in 2002 and there's no way I was telling them my previous doctor's information on my eyes and neither were my parents because they weren't even coming back to the room with me at that time. So I know 16 year old me wasn't telling them what was wrong with my eyes and what my previous doctor had diagnosed me with. So I don't understand what they're talking about that they don't have information from your previous doctor. How do they even know what to go by?? Horizon has become a scam. Horizon please don't act like it's just me that left your doctor a negative review, pls see your review from one month ago from your patient who said your trusted doctor had no bedside manners and treated them and a family member the same way. This is really a rating on the Horizon Eye Care (HEC) phone system/process. I just spent close to 4 hours over a week trying to get an appointment. My experience: 1) Expect a LONG wait. Personnel who answer are pleasant but apparently very understaffed; 2) DO NOT USE the option to leave a message as it frequently disconnected the call and you get to start over. 3) I also received NO call backs to any of my messages I left. 4) Call transfers were never successful resulting in having to start over (again). 5) HEC REALLY NEEDS to update their call system to a) notify customers on hold what the wait time is so they do not waste their time and b) provide an automatic call back option election where customers do not lose their place in line and it actually works. 6) To save time and frustration highly recommend you just go to the HEC location nearest you and make the appointment in person. On 1/6/24 I had an exam by K.Sedlock at the Manahawkin office. She gave me a prescription which I had filled at Walmart in Naples, Fla. I knew something was off as I couldn't see good out of the lower left lense. I went back to Walmart and was told that the prescription matched the glasses. I returned to NJ in June and went to Horizon to discuss my problem. The technician said my prescription matched the glasses. A very nice receptionist gave me an appointment for a refraction on 7/29/24. At that exam, I was told by K. Sedlock that she had given me too much power in the lower left lense. She gave me another prescription. I feel that Horizon should pay for their mistake. They told me no way as it was over 30 days when I reported it. I was in Florida and I never used the glasses I purchased as I couldn't properly see out of them. The attitude on 7/29/24 was not friendly or understanding. I was disappointed and insulted at their attitude as my husband and I have been going there for probably 15 yrs. We will no longer be using them for our checkups in the future. I have been a patient at Horizon (formerly Gaskin) since 1988. Leaving the practice as it now takes me longer to call and schedule or change an appt than the actual time I'd spend in an appointment. Also very hard to get in to see a doctor without waiting months. Can't do online and apparently can't answer the phone. If this was a one-off situation it could be more understandable. This has now happened EVERY TIME I call. I've been on phone now more than 34 minutes; completely unacceptable service. Good bye Horizon. read more

I injured my eye while visiting my daughter in Charlotte. It got worse very quickly, to the point that I was unable to see. I called my hometown ophthalmologist told me to get in to see someone locally asap. I was happy to get an immediate appointment with an optometrist at MidWood eye care center (she was also great) who then referred me to cornea specialist Dr. Jonathan Minkowski at Horizon. He was attentive, professional and kind. He had me come in again a couple days later to determine if the treatment plan was working. My vision has improved significantly. I would highly recommend Dr. Minkowski and Horizon Eye Care. read more
