I've been frequenting this place for the past 7 years and watched Julia turn this place into the monument it is today. I read a negative review recently posted below and found it laughable. If you for one second believe or identify with the description in that review below well, you too may be mentally disturbed. I'm sure the reviewer was rude and outrageous and probably overall an entitled bitch. If you don't like Horsefeathers then go to some dump like Alex's Grill or NY Firehouse Grill in Peekskill. Very friendly, and welcoming environment. The staff was extremely polite and made my mom and me feel comfortable. The overall atmosphere of the place is cozy, but very dark inside. Like darker than intimate - it was dark to the point where you almost felt tired and had to strain your eyes. However, the place itself was still nice inside overall. The bread given to us was very tasty. They make this bread that has cinnamon in the middle - it was delicious. I ordered the New England clam chowder soup - it was very good. Very warm, and the perfect serving size. My mother ordered a french onion soup. However, there was hardly any broth. The soup mainly consisted of bread at the bottom (no liquid). I ordered the shrimp and scallops entree with steak fries on the side. It was very salty! The shrimp tasted blubbery and had so much salt it ruined the entire taste. My scallops were very delicious though - they even gave extra butter on the side to dip my seafood in. My mom ordered a burger - and she enjoyed it. She wanted it a little more rare than they served it to her but she still liked it. Overall, I had a decent experience at horsefeathers. I think I'll go one more time just to see what else they offer. They overall have a nice sized menu for a pub and everyone seemed very happy inside. read more

Just to keep it current: still love Horsefeathers! It's a staple in our eating out rotation for sure. We've always had excellent service and delicious food. They are also super helpful in accommodating my good friend's celiac disease (very strict gluten allergy). Cute spot themed around the literary legend that influences the entire area. We came the first Saturday in October, so they were already busy with the Halloween crowd. Everyone came at once, and seating got a little disorganized, but the staff was wonderful and handled everything really well. The food was absolutely wonderful. We ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, which came with a fantastic cocktail sauce and 4 MASSIVE shrimp (true to their menu, which says that the shrimp are much larger than jumbo). I had the Stonnington Scallops dinner with garlic mashed potatoes. I expected a little more flavor from the potatoes for what they were supposed to be but they were still great, and the scallops were absolute perfection. My partner ordered some sort of a creamy shrimp pasta and he all but licked the plate clean! We really wanted to sit at the bar but seats just NEVER opened up. All in all, a wonderful find. Absolutely love this place. The burgers are delicious. It's worth it to get the burger blackened. The onion rings are big and fluffy. The beer comes out with an ice cold glass. Went here on my visit to Salem during a Halloween adventure! I went in fully expecting service at all venues to be slower due to the high volumes of people. I was surprised at how well the team adapted at HF. First off, the atmosphere is incredible. Murals on the wall of long ago poets, political figures, etc. Also - prices are really great - even for a small town. The food was incredible - we did burgers, soups, salads, fries, calamari, shrimp, etc all family style! A group of 4 of us walked away very satisfied. If I could give this place a 3 1/2 stars, I would. I've been here several times, usually with a larger group. It is a nice place to go with a group as the menu can accommodate most dietary needs.The food is decent - it's pretty much your standard bar fare, with a few upgrades. The beer selection is really great. You can usually find something you haven't had before, and you'll certainly find something that will suit your taste. I'm not a fan of the parking situation, and sometimes the wait staff is a little less attentive. Overall though, it's a solid place and I'll likely be back with friends. read more

We had tickets to see Arlo Guthrie. The Venue is an old, and I mean old, the Tarrytown Music Hall, a great place. Well I met my daughter at Horsefeathers. The menu was quite extensive so my thought was how can everything be fresh and good. I practically never give out 5 stars, so my 4 stars become very awesome, so 3 is a good review. We split a Caesar salad. They were nice enough to split in the kitchen. It was good and plentiful. I'm quite sure it was bottled dressing. We both had the steak wedge* no cheese,with sautéed onions. It came without any side so we ordered fries. The steak was NY Strip. It was cut into 1/8 inch medallions a little bigger then a silver dollar. They were cooked properly and tasted fine. I felt that the meat/bread ratio was way off. Either put the meat on a nice roll or double the amount. The steak fries, hand cut, were excellent. They were crispy on outside and soft in the interior. My Amstel Lite was served very cold with a chilled glass and my daughter enjoyed the flood wine. There servers were excellent and asked us several times if all was well. I'll go back! * In Westchester County we call heroes/subs/hoagies- wedges. I believe it's because originally Italian bread were big round loafs. No matter how busy it is (and it is almost always busy) the owner personally greets us and makes sure we have everything we need and that our experience is nothing less than wonderful. Had a wonderful outdoor brunch at this fun restaurant. The wait was reasonable, the tables spaced appropriately, the service friendly, and the food delicious. I had a perfectly prepared mushroom and cheese omelette served with delicious sweet potato hash browns and toast. This restaurant/bar in Tarrytown seems pretty nondescript from the outside (easy to miss in the little shopping strip). But it's a decent little find. I was told that I really had to try one of their burgers. So I did - the "Old English" burger I think it was. It was on an English muffin and there was bacon involved. It was very tasty. They also have a very extensive beer list. This was the second time in a week I've had Sam Smith's - the Nut Brown Ale. That's a good week. So, kudos for the beer list. The service was fine - but maybe a bit crabby. However, the place was empty on a Sunday night and I think it was more "friendly crabby" than bitchy. Although the game was still going, they held to their 9:00 closing time. This is completely understandable since we were the only ones there, but it begs the question: why is this place so dead when the Giants are in the NFC Championship? I guess it isn't exactly a sports bar... So, go for the burgers and beer, but catch your night games somewhere else. read more

God. This place was the worst. I was going to go with mashed, but wasn't given given a choice so I figured I'd just be happy with fries. About one minute later the sandwich comes out. No fries or any potatoes, just the sandwich. The meat was ice cold. At least they heated up the au jus, but it was practically clear - like water with a drop of beef broth. I know I should have complained. The server was friendly enough, it wasn't her fault and I'm sure she would have fixed it , but the thing is it wouldn't have been good even heated, with fries. There is a point where you just have to admit defeat and realize that fighting it will only become more infuriating. And the earlier you recognize that point, the better - walk away. The roll was dry and flavorless, it needed salt (none on the table)They got everything so wrong right off the bat that I was just too put off to bother complaining. My corner bodega makes a more inspired sandwich for two dollars. They do have a decent beer menu, so maybe people come here to drink. I've been here loads of times since my initial review, and as you can see, they haven't drop a millimeter in my opinion. In fact, they're consistently the best meal I have in Tarrytown, and I'm so bad at food shopping that I eat out a bit too much. I've tried an array of available burgers, and I can't pick a favorite. But, in addition to burgers, I went for brunch and had my socks appropriately knocked off. Not to mention their wings are better than certain reputable wings places (I'm looking at you, Candlelight!), and they give you an entire bottle of blue cheese to go with the wings. My friend recommended Horsefeather and I'm very grateful because I would've never found this place. I ordered the avocado, tomato and mushroom omelette with American cheese. It came with some toast and sweet potato has browns. The omelette was very good. The vegetables were fresh with plenty of Velveeta-like cheese oozed out when you dug in. The mushrooms were excellent. I didn't however care too much for the sweet potato hash browns. I think a sweet potato is in its best form either steamed or deep fried. Perhaps the best part of the meal is the complimentary assortment of bread. The service was quick and friendly. I heard their burgers are pretty good too. More reason to come back soon. read more

This place was a bit of a surprise. It's really hidden in this rinky dink strip mall-esque row of stores. But you walk inside and its dark wood interior and faux library walls make you start to think you're in an old english library until you remember it's part of a strip mall next to a hair salon and a christian book store. The menu had some great items on it. A vast variety of cheeses including horseradish cheddar and many many sandwiches and I always get excited when I find a place that does sweet potato fries and actually makes them crispy and not soggy with oil. But most impressive I have to say, is their extensive bar. There were more bottles of liquor than I would have imagined. Now had I not been the driver on the way to this restaurant I would have started sampling most of it. Alas I did not. I cannot even give a review about the food because the establishment would not seat my party. I was visiting Tarrytown for the weekend of my birthday, bringing along my family that totaled a number of 12. I called in advice twice, spoke to two separate people, who informed me they could not take reservations (which was understandable) but reassured me when to show up so that my party was seated on time and would be served and ready to leave to make our purchased tickets for an event. Upon arrival, we were turned away for the size of the group. I assume I was speaking to the manager, who was not kind at all and seemed to be completely bother when I tried to talk to her. I would understand if they were busy, but they were not busy by any means and just very rude. Her exact words were "I do not have time. Wait or just got somewhere else". To be honest, if this was just a preview of the service, I am glad we did go somewhere else. read more

Ohhh...there are few things as wonderful as a walk in the woods. One of them, however, hands-down, is a walk in the woods followed by a shared burger and a pint of beer. It was smack in the middle of the week, and a friend phoned to see if I'd fancy a trip to Roosevelt Preserve. Heck, yes, said I, and saddled up the doggie for the drive over. We walked for two hours, and, finding ourselves chilled in the way that denotes a good walk in good weather, we decided we owed ourselves a nice meal. I heard good things about this place, so my friends and i decided to go there, but the manager was just SO unreasonable. Evidently you're not allowed to put two tables together late on a sunday night, even though she, the manager, was about to put 4 tables together, almost hitting a customer!!! Why would you let 8 people walk out and lose their patronage (and the patronage of all their friends!!) over 4 feet of space, which by the way, the servers had no problem getting to. I will never go there again, nor will i tell anyone else to go there. Ironically when we asked the manager why she would rather lose 8 customers than put two tables together, she said we obviously didn't know the restaurant business!! Really??? You cant make this up!! So unless you are a group of 4 or less, don't stress out the manager, she really cant take it!! read more

Ahhhh. Good brunch! I had a good omelet and my guy had a burger club. Staff was nice, especially our server Deana who took her time to explain the menu options. The strawberry shortcake was delicious. I'm so freaking full right now. I would say the food is reasonably priced and the portions are large. I really didn't expect to see a strong Yelp presence out of Tarrytown (no offense), but I was definitely pleased to see it. Horsefeathers definitely is my new favorite restaurant for Tarrytown. The soup was incredible. How many places offer good soup varities these days, that don't just sell soups. The burgers of course were also equally as good. We love Horsefeathers! We have eaten here many times over the past year and a half and the food is always delicious and fresh. Great burgers, fish and chips, and outstanding soups. Try the Broadway Dip-a French dip with caramelized onions and Swiss cheese on toasted bread, the hot turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, and the shrimp and scallops entree. Wow Marilyn P. knows what I'm talking about...they asked us if we had reservations on a Sunday afternoon. Now granted it was Mother's Day, but it was also 2PM in the afternoon and it's pretty much a bar. The brunch crowd had definitely cleared out. A simple "Hi, how many in your party" will do thanks. The food and the service definitely get 5 stars! I went for 3 overall because of the attitude of the hostess, the fact that it was so dimly lit oh and let's get the final elephant in the room outta the way. The prices were pretty high. I mean it was a tasty omelette, but 14.95....it's eggs and some bacon and veggies. Some other standouts that you should not miss for brunch: -Anything on their menu that includes crab or crab cakes -Maryland Blue crab cake sandwich for instance... -Eggs Rockefeller -Old English Burger -Sweet potato fries I also thought the basket of breakfast breads and popovers they brought out at the start, were unique and delicious.
