This place used to be very good a year ago but more and more of the old workers have moved on and the new staff just doesn't care anymore. Bagels are over cooked. Orders are done incorrectly. Egg and cheese on croissants are not cooked right. I always try to get a person that has been here for a while. Update: this place has not changed. The draw here is convenience and location. Exactly what every town in New Jersey needs. It's hands down the best bagel shop I've been to and the service is always great! I'm absolutely obsessed with nova lox on bagels and their bagels always hit the spot. Not too long ago I got a sausage, egg and cheese with a hash brown in a plain bagel.. it was delicious. The iced coffee easily beats Dunkin Donuts. Whenever I'm home from college, it's one of the first places I stop at in Bloomfield. I'm tortured all year long with places like Manhattan Bagel but Hot Bagels Abroad is a true bagel shop. Such a gem! (Giving 4 stars because although one of my favorites, I always get paired with a young lady that always seems to mess up my order. I usually don't complain because the pressure of lots of customers is stressful but the wrong order occurs so often with the same server that I get the feeling of disappointment when I know she's the one helping me. Bad service, did not get what we ordered, was substitutions but not told until food was placed in front of us. Employees handle utensils without wearing gloves, gross! one guy behind counter had major attitude! Had to ask for salt, had to ask for pepper and ketchup, had to ask for utensils. And, when the place is crowded, you then wait to get back up to the counter for these items. Wouldn't it be better if they asked what you need before they rush to the next person. Also, the person who took our order started to take the order of people behind us, even though we were standing right up front by the register. The employees run around in chaos. Over easy eggs ordered came with the yolks broken. If you don't know how to cook over easy, you shouldn't be pretending that you do. read more

Despite having plenty of staff on hand some people were waiting for upwards of 20 minutes for their food. Despite this, some locals had the inside deal and were able to cut the line to place their orders after walking back into the prep area. Expecting an accuracy? Good luck. After waiting for 20 minutes and seeing that the line is optional, the woman behind the counter managed to mess up both bagel sandwiches. "Two everything bagels with taylor ham, eggs, and cheese, one with salt pepper and ketchup." "So two everything's bacon egg and cheese?" "No, taylor ham, egg, and cheese one..." "With salt pepper and ketchup?" "Yes, taylor ham, egg, and cheese salt pepper and ketchup on only one of them." More than 10 minutes later... A bag with 2 bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, $5 each. We had to circle back and wait another 15 minutes for the right sandwiches. Hire staff who has the sense to write orders down if they can't remember the details. Make sure that patrons aren't free to walk up to their buddies and place their orders ahead of the rest of the line. read more

I'm going to update my update, because I come back enough times that it really is 5 star. Either the training got better or we just had hit a patch of newbies before. I still always get the weekend special (6 bagels + tub of cream cheese + 1/4 lb. lox) and the bagels are always hot, fresh, and delicious. Still always crowded on Saturday mornings. But it's popular, can't knock it for that. The line moves fairly quickly. These guys have a good system down to get the orders and get people their stuff quickly. read more

The bagels here are tops. My bagels need to have a nice chewy not overly dense consistency with a crusty exterior, and these bagels deliver. I also like how there is a wide variety of fresh bagels and cream cheeses. My favorite bagel sandwich is a toasted whole wheat everything bagel with lox, veggie cream cheese, tomato and red onion. Just the perfect combo of flavors, so delicious and satisfying. The bagel is ok as-is but I like mine hot and toasted. I've also heard from people who know their bagels that these are some of the best. They have a wide array of bagels, flagels and even bagel sticks, complemented an equally impressive selection of cream cheese - my every favorite being an everything flagel with veggie cream cheese. When available, I'll take an Asiago bagel with jalapeno cheddar cream cheese. If you're feeling really Jersey, they make probably the best taylor ham, egg and cheese. "Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a roll, pepper and ketcup, no salt, fried egg." is something I've ordered countless times. Eggs cooked on the flat top. Taylor ham charred on the open grill. Super light roll. It's heavenly, hangover or not. Last, but not least, and the reason why I decided to finally write a review. The coffee, and even more specifically- their iced coffee. I always thought this had gone under-appreciated until I talked to my sister. Some might even write it off before even trying it because it's kept in an inconspicuous, unappetizing plastic container behind the counter, a big no-no for snobs serving coffee from glass carafes. This place knows how to make good iced coffee. It's not watered down, not overbrewed coffee in anticipation of added ice, nor simply an iced Americano. It's just great tasting coffee on ice. For people looking to drink coffee without cream or sugar, this would be the place to start. And as an added bonus, their decaf is just as delicious as their regular. Strong cocoa flavor with good nuttiness. Oh, and their food is always prepared using sanitary, disposable gloves. read more

Consistently great bagels made on site for a very affordable price. Last I knew, a coffee and bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich went for around $5. Credit cards accepted. Good bakery items and the fruit cups are usually fresh as well. Go with the egg, cheese and taylor ham (or pork roll if that's what you want to call it) on a garlic bagel. Make sure you ask for the bagel toasted if that's how you want it because they won't toast it unless you ask. They usually also ask if you want salt, pepper and ketchup, but I leave all that stuff off. The one downfall to this place is that it's confusing to know who's waiting on you because it gets so busy. Rather than having one person on each register, the person that takes your order is usually the person who cashes you out. So, keep an eye on your server. He or she will most likely be yelling you questions from behind the counter, like "salt, pepper, ketchup?." read more

Best local bagel shop! They make their bagels on site and it's really cool to see the machines and bakery in the back. Atmosphere: It's really busy here. You can quickly tell that it's a local favorite any time of the day (esp. breakfast). Many people come in to grab food on the go. Many people also buy bagels by the dozen so you know this place has a good rep. All orders are taken at the counter and they do things fast so you better go with that speed and know what you want. (I also find that sometimes they make mistakes because they go so fast.....=/) Food: I think the bagels are yummy here. I appreciate the fact that they are all homemade. They also have "cream cheese of the week" so you can try a variety of different concoctions (like banana nut cream cheese, etc.). They have daily combo deals with a bagel sandwich and a drink (like egg/sausage/cheese + coffee for $5 or something). There's seating inside and outside which I appreciate on a warm sunny day. If I'm not passing the Montclair location I settle for this one and I mean settle.. because it's close to work. I normally get a hash brown on my bagel.. it's always very greasy. Today in particular as soon as I opened my bagel the entire thing was oily everywhere, strange. But my major issue is receiving burnt inedible food. It's like there's no toaster and they sat the bottom on the grill for 10 mins. & the top not toasted at all. The customer service is great!! But they can improve on the actual food itself. Whoever is in charge of planning and operations needs to be fired! This place is the most Ill run bagel spot in New Jersey!! 30 minutes of complete 2 bagels!! One with just cream cheese another that had an egg on it ! Heres what the process looked like: 1.) Employee comes to take order 2.) We explain exactly what we want "2 small black coffees no sugar, one everything bagel toasted with olive cream cheese (don't get that order, it was bland) and a jalepeno bagel egg and cheese with hot sauce, for here." 3.) Employee not writing any of this down and then proceeds to give a Blank stare and attempts to review the order from memory---this ain't a game called memory lady! Write it down!!-- gets a 35% if we were playing a game 4.) Wait near register to pay, (since we are decent Human beings tha will pay even for bad service) while a huge line is building behind us. 5.) Employee comes back and asks do we want cream in the coffee 6.) I just about lost it at this point but we answered "no, just black and no sugar" (this is where I peer over and wonder why we are asked about the coffee when she was working on the bagel) literally saw two bagels laying there on the prep table. 7.) People are pushing past us and paying after getting their food ---(why not make your patrons pay ahead of time and then just hand stuff off?) 8.) The bagels are always super fresh--I like to keep it simple with either a whole wheat or whole wheat everything bagel and I can never pass up a Taylor ham, egg and cheese (obviously with salt, pepper and ketchup). I really appreciate that they pack everything on (they totally don't skimp on the TH) and it keeps the sandwich from tasting like it's all bagel (even though the bagels are awesome). Know that there's probably going to be a decent line if you go on a weekend morning, but they keep it moving and it's totally worth it.
