Went on a Monday morning (holiday) and it wasn't super packed. They have plenty of seating inside and it's right across from a park so, even more seating if you'd like to sit out there. I got an everything bagel with eggs, and a plain bagel with lox and cream cheese - I had ordered the plain one with lox cream cheese, however, they gave me lox AND cream cheese, which was $5 more expensive, turning out to be $10 for one bagel. I don't recall the last time I gave a one star on a review. However, this place deserves no more than one. I went in for a Taylor, ham egg and cheese with salt, pepper, and ketchup on a toasted onion bagel. The bagel was barely toasted. The egg was decently cooked, but the cheese was not melted at all. They did not add salt, pepper or ketchup. The Taylor ham was the absolute worst of it all. It was literally gray! I cannot believe that this was served to me. I am thankful that I always take a good look at my food. I came by a few months ago for a toasted bagel with butter, and I was also disappointed. The bagel was decent, but the butter would not melt? They make some of the best breakfast sandwiches! Service is good, especially for how busy they get. I've been getting bagels and breakfast sandwiches from here since high school, and when living out of state would always stop here for bagels to take back to PA or RI. I wasted 25 minutes here while everyone after me got their order and when I ask instead of waiting all day I was treated poorly and then ignored. I will never come back. This place is nice and clean; has good seating area. The ordering system is weird where you order at one side of the counter and then wait for your food to be ready before paying at the register. We let them know and without question they gave us hash on the side too. Great customer sm service and not to mention the place was pretty crowded when we were there. They really went out of their way to correct the mistake. Going over the top to make sure we were satisfied definitely didn't go unnoticed. Bagel was out of this world. He took it out of his bag with his bare hands, handed it to the cashier (who was not wearing gloves) and threw it back into the bagel bin. If that wasn't nasty enough, I watched another employee go into the bathroom to clean it, go back behind the line without washing his hands and began to grab bagels with his BARE hands and put them in a bag for another customer. Stopped in at Sunrise Bagels on a Wednesday morning. Yet another breakfast spot to check off on our "Montclair/Upper Montclair Breakfast Cafe Hunt." Although parking can be hit or miss, we did find an open spot on Watchung Plaza a few doors down from Sunrise Bagels. Although the weather was a balmy 60 degrees, outdoor seating was not yet in place. We entered the cafe around 10:30 AM and found a good amount of available seating as customers seeking lunch had not yet arrived. The interior of Sunrise Bagels is significanlty more roomy than expected. Also, the place was spotless throughout. The ordering area was clearly marked with menu items posted just behind the counter. We both ordered coffee along with scrambled egg dishes complete with potatoes, bagels and toast. Coffee is a help-yourself set up with choices of cup sizes complete with condiments and napkins. You find your seat at one of the many tables. Once your order is ready, you will be called to pick it up and pay at the counter. It was only minutes before our food was ready. We had already poured coffee for ourselves and were enjoying their fresh brew which was outstanding! Our selections were cooked to our liking and were very substantial and the price point was more than reasonable. We were invited to coffee re-fills at no charge, a welcomed touch. Prior to leaving, I took home one of their croissants which are always freshly baked on premises. It should be pointed out that the counter staff were very helpful and demonstrated a true appreciation for their customers. We look forward to returning to Sunrise Bagels and recommend this Cafe to all who are looking for an enjoyable breakfast or lunch experience. read more

His co-worker or manager said "we have cameras" - and if that's true, and they have audio, I would be very interested in seeing the footage for March 22 at 4:15 pm EST. My family and I have been going to this bagel place for many, many years. I'm really disappointed to have learned today that one of the main guys tipped himself on my bill without my knowledge. I fumbled with the card reader for a second (baby on my hip), then he took card, swiped and tapped through the screen after turning the screen towards himself. I thought this was sketchy so asked for a receipt. He then refused to give me a receipt. I checked my statement and saw he tipped himself $3. I complained and got my money back, with some back and forth. Needless to say they've lost my business. Tea & coffee has always been good with lots of options for beverages. Menu has a lot of options and fresh juices and smoothies are good. Years ago, there used to be a young women at the countertop that was always pleasant. She has gone since then. There is one particular man that works here that has always been extremely rude and short of patience whenever he takes my order. I usually avoid him if possible. And order from anyone else. They are always polite and friendly. Never get my order wrong. They're part of the reason I still visited from time to time, despite the rude guy. Yet, the last time I visited; the same rude guy took my order. There were only a few people in the store and I was the only one at the counter. I was hesitant to order with him but I figured I would be quick and simple to avoid any confusion. I asked for a Turkey Bacon BLT w/ spinach on rye & xtra Mayo. He wrote down my order and repeated it to me. I went and sat to do some work and waited for my order to be called (as they usually call your order out when it's ready). After awhile I realized an extended period of time had passed and I went to the counter. When he finished my order, he never notified me that it was done. A sandwich was on the countertop and I told the cashier my order and she checked me out. I left, realized I had the wrong order and politely went to notify them. (I figured it must've been a switch with the sandwich). The rude guy got offended brushed me off with his hands and rolled his eyes at me. He tried to say I ordered what he had prepared but it was a completely different sandwich. He wanted to argue as he offered to make the sandwich over in a disgusting tone and manner and I declined and requested a refund. I expressed my concerns for his tone and attitude and the entire staff just blew me off. And tried to justify his behavior. I called back to speak to the owner and they put the same guy on the phone. He completely disregarded me, talked over me and denied what had happened and had no intentions of accountability or respecting me. As an African-American woman, I asked him... had I been a white woman had he treated me in the same manner. Some of the staff is completely racist. The owner laughed & ignored the altercation in the background and completely ignored him being rude to me! it was such a horrible experience!! I went there recently and due to them being incapable of giving me a proper smear of cream cheese during a previous visit, I knew to order the bagels and the cream cheese separate. I asked to have the 2 bagels toasted. the man kept it in there for about 20 seconds and then proceeded to dig his bare thumbs into each bagel instead of using a tong or even wearing a glove on his hand in use (would have given peace of mind. ) so quick rundown: bare fingers at the bottom of the bagels with "naked thumb" getting all up in the inner crust. (*Que the music.) I actually enjoy the bagels here, it's unfortunate that they have so many other issues. Biggest issue is that the cooks frequently don't wear GLOVES when handling food here!
