Definitely a hidden place in Kentlands. The thing I liked about this restaurant was that it was fast and fresh. It's the sort of place where you order your food at the counter and pay for it and they bring it out to you. A very good place for fast traditional Indian food. It seemed to me that they always have seating as the place is fairly large. The only thing I would criticize about it is their deserts. They look very fresh, but it seemed like they sat out in the counter for a while before we got them. I'm sure they are very delish when they are freshly made but perhaps we just got the older ones. What an interesting place. We stopped in for dessert yesterday, but I can't wait to go back and try the savory pastries, and some of the other dishes as well. They have a huge list of choices of Indian sandwiches, appetizers rolls, paninis, wraps, pastries, entrees.... And then there's the cakes. When you walk in you are greeted with a huge pastry case full of slices of all sorts of cake. I had the tiramisu, which was great. My brother ordered the "chocolate bomb" which was... a big thing of chocolate. :) A little bit dry I think, or just missing something, so I would probably order the chocolate truffle cake next time instead, which looked amazing. This is a nice casual indian restaurant that serves baked goods as well as some indian food that other restaurants don't serve. I really liked the sev puri and samosa chaat. Found this place on a whim as we were standing outside the strip of restaurants it is near and decided to go to Hot Breads.... and I am glad we did! You order the food from the counter and when it is ready, they simply call your number. They have a regular style menu but also a menu of pictures on the wall of each dish. As I am not familiar with the many types of Indian dishes this helped tremendously and aided me in be able to try a new dish. All the food we ordered was delicious and flavorful. The meat came out juicy and tender and the spicy-ness level on all the dishes was just right. I would highly recommend Hot Breads for Indian cuisine! I stumbled upon this small bakery/cafe tonight and decided to stop in to see what they had to offer. I was delighted to see the many vegetarian and vegan options! The young guy at the cashier was very friendly, helpful, courteous and professional. My review is in large part because of his excellent and exceptional customer service!! (The cupcakes were just ok, truthfully..anyway.) There was a $10 minimum for credit/debit card use that I only noticed after I made my purchase. My bill was roughly $8. He didn't say anything. He also offered me a chutney to go along with the veggie curry puff that I ordered. Nice gesture! I can appreciate restaurants that do not take customers for grants - new or returning ones. First off, I've only been here a couple of times in the evenings, and just to get some snacks as take away. They've been empty both times. The Sev Puri was ok-ish and the quantity was pretty paltry for the cost. The Aloo tikki was pretty good though (the reason I gave them 2 stars). When I had ordered the Samosa chaat, I told them to make it spicy. Little did I know they would put in huge amount of ONLY spicy chutney and hardly any cholle with a samosa. All of their staff will tell you different things and prices. And when you ask them to explain it to you, they will in turn yell at you for not understanding their terms and policies. This restaurant shines at lunch. The mostly vegetarian buffet (great for vegans) holds a wide variety, and will leave you well sated. I enjoyed the wide variety of starches, including some that are not typical at Indian buffets. The rich, vibrant, and varied sauces of the various bean and vegetable dishes are rich and filling. There is usually an interesting salad (pickled red onions and spinach the last time i went) that is better than the usual desultory offering at similar places. The palak paneer, a constant here, is more than the usual liquified spinach and cheese cubes; it has an interesting seasoning profile and a thicker texture than the pablum elsewhere. Lastly, if you are fortunate enough to go on a day that they put out their curried cabbage, you are in for a treat. I have eaten cabbage in all its forms, from kimchee to sweet southern coleslaw, and this is the finest preparation. It is, at once, crispy, lightly toasted, and with a pleasant tangy seasoning. Service matters. I ordered a speciality cake for my best friend's b'day. It was a Barbie doll shaped cake for which they charged me $88. I paid. I asked to keep it ready by 4:30. It was not ready, big turn off! If you don't value your time, at least value others. I had to wait for half an hour to get it ready. And when it comes out I see what? A really bad finishing on my cake. It was not at all near acceptable. They have made very nice piece to display, but they failed to deliver. The design on the cake was ugly! When I pointed that, the guy was rude "If you wait, I can make it like this". I agreed upon to wait, just to see another failure. I wish I could upload both the pictures. I will go with their simpler Black Forest, but never for their speciality cakes. I would say, only trust original baker for really good cakes. Went in the other night around 8pm for a quick bite and ordered the Non-Veg Thali. The menu stated that it came with a dessert so I asked which one it came with. The cashier said there was a 50/50 chance I would get it. I was a bit amused/confused by this response so I asked again, and he said he didn't know but would be sure to include it. Strike 1. There are 2 sections of seating. I was told that one of the sections was closed (which isn't a big deal) but when going to the bathroom, noticed a group sitting there. Strike 2. Sat back down to a sticky table and when I went to get my food, the dessert ended up being 1 sweet dessert ball (I don't know the name of it, but they are very sweet and typically served at buffets). Began eating the chicken curry part of the Thali and it was unbelievably salty. Strike 3. I have a feeling it was leftovers that was microwaved from the lunch buffet. Usually I'm pretty flexible when it comes to saltiness, but it was so salty it physically hurt your mouth. I went to take it back and they offered to replace it with another dish. I declined and asked for a refund and left because I felt like whatever else I got would also be reheated leftovers from lunch. Sorry to say, but never again. read more
