Off Michigan Ave, opposite Grant Park, and attached to probably the number one conference-hotel in…read morethe city, I'd assume there isn't ever an extended down time here, much less in the evening, much less with sporting events on. So that's exactly when I came. I had just seen a show at The Revival Improv Theatre and walked about a block and a half to get here (mostly because I had already street parked on Wabash - you're not likely to find much closer). I didn't recall that it was a seat-yourself sort of affair, which can lend a certain level of chaos if you're not a frequent bar-goer, are from out of town, or both. Luckily, it was easy enough to find two open seats at the bar, and being at the bar meant attention was given pretty quickly (though that did slow as time went on). Pretty darn decent food. The fries were excellent and the bacon that was added to our burger was the kind that's worth adding. A boozy milkshake felt not too far off from eggnog (but that's just December on the brain). If you're the type to sympathize with the poor folk walking in circles trying to find seating, well- at least there are TVs to distract you! Whatever team is playing (it was Thursday night football when I visited), you can almost guarantee someone will be watching and audibly reacting. And that is really living.

I am writing to share feedback regarding my dining experience at Kitty O'Shea's this past Sunday…read moreevening. While we enjoyed the ambiance of the pub, the service and food quality did not meet expectations. I visited at 7:30 PM with my mother, sister, and four-year-old son. Upon arrival, we waited a significant amount of time to be greeted. It appeared the restaurant was understaffed, as our server seemed overwhelmed throughout the evening. Our primary concern was the quality of the food. After waiting nearly an hour, the potato leek soup, corned beef dinner, and chicken pot pie were all served cold. Despite requesting that the items be reheated, they were returned lukewarm or still cold. Given the price of these entrees, we expected a higher standard of quality. Ultimately, we returned the entrees and departed at 9:30 PM without eating our main courses. Furthermore, the complimentary ice cream included with the child's meal was never offered. We paid for the child's meal, the cold half eaten soup, and our beverages before leaving. While our server was nice enough and provided a complimentary Yorkshire pudding for my son because he was so hungry and was getting restless from waiting, the overall experience was disappointing. I am not someone who likes to ever return food even when I am not enjoying it. I find that to be quite frankly embarrassing, but this is not something that I could accept. I work hard for my money and paying $70 for a freezing cold soup and two entrées was not something I was about to do however I did pay for the soup which was so bad. I hope the management find this feedback constructive, as we had hoped for a much better experience

The sausage was very tasty, the breading on the outside was incredibly crisp, light, and the egg inside was cooked well. Both the steak pie and the chicken pie were very good. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious. Surprisingly light, not overly dense so I was glad it came with the custard which was very flavorful. Overall, will definitely return!

We ordered the Steak & Ale Pie (crowned with mash and gravy) and the Chicken Balti Pie. Both were delicious, but I think crowning the steak pie was definitely the right call. The chicken balti actually reminded me of the Taiwanese curry pastries (咖喱角) I grew up eating, which was a fun surprise. Very flavorful, and although the pies look kind of small at first glance, they are surprisingly filling. We also ordered the pickled egg -- basically a hard boiled egg with vinegar flavor. Tasty, though probably the most "normal" item we had. One unexpected highlight was the staff. Apparently many of the servers are freelance musicians, and they'll break out a guitar and ukulele song if someone is celebrating a special occasion. Very chill, friendly neighborhood vibe overall.

The broth is the kind you want to keep dipping bread into and practically lick off your fingers afterward -- flavorful, savory, and a little briny without being the heavy creamy type of sauce that some places do. Very comforting but not overly rich. Honestly, I don't even remember all the other dishes we've ordered over the years, but our experiences have consistently been good. Service is polished, the space feels classic Chicago, and it's a great place to relax before or after a performance downtown.

Other reviewers are spot on about friendly staff, nice atmosphere, clean restrooms, noise not too overwhelming, lots of televisions to catch a game. We had the Buffalo Chicken Deviled Eggs every time we went. The idea doesn't make sense - but they were soooo good! We ordered the Fish & Chips on our first visit. We were not expecting to actually get potato chips. Didn't realize until later they have french fries here, but they decided to give us potato chips. Who serves potato chips as a default with Fish & Chips? Is this a Midwest thing? Each visit, they were out of tall boy PBRs. Guess they don't restock on holiday weekends. Only the branzino slightly missed the mark. It could have been filleted a little more carefully (I found several small bones) and it was slightly overcooked. But it wasn't bad by any means, and all the other dishes were perfect with the cornbread being a huge standout. It was moist, sweet, and came in a huge portion. (It could've easily served 4.) The restaurant itself is beautiful. Had I not known the history of the building, I never would've guessed that it was previously a dog daycare. I will note that we were unfortunately seated at a table that had a significant wobble. The service was both leisurely and disjointed. We were seated for 15 minutes before a server arrived. Food took an hour to arrive after ordering, and there was no thought given to proper pacing (our entrees arrived almost immediately after our starters). There were three different servers tending to our table, but tracking down any of them was a challenge, and they rarely checked in on us of their own accord. All told, our 4-course meal took 2.5 hours. Despite the downsides, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, and we will be back. If you visit, just make sure not to have any urgent plans after dinner.
