I had heard good things about this place, but when we went, my steak was really awful. AWFUL. They had poured so much salt and pepper in it that it was like eating a mouthful of black pepper. I couldn't even taste the steak. Our waiter was a nice guy and I felt bad about it, but for $49, I wasn't going to eat it. He went to the back and gave me the nice version of "too bad for you, eat it anyway, because we will do nothing". It was a shame. We spent $135 there on our big night out. Save your money, and go to the grocery store and just buy the black pepper and eat it. read more

Hot Rocks is Benihana on a budget. A new addition to town hidden behind the BP gas station across the upside down White House. Now Monday's they have 3 dollar old fashions that are delicious the food is ok but the novelty for the kiddos and young at heart is searing and cooking your own food on a scalding rock at your table. The food is decent and has a little variety and the prices are fair as well. The real downside to this place is you and your party's clothes will be saturated with the smell of everyone's food cooking some people like it some people don't. If you don't mind the fact that you are technically cooking your own dinner, this place is great! The food is good, both the food you cook on the lava rock and food prepared in the kitchen(appetizers and kid's meals). The desserts are very good especially the Caramel Brownie Bite Cheesecake and Death By Chocolate. The only thing that could have been improved was the service. I got two boiled potatoes, instead of roasted, and an olive in my watered down old-fashioned. While they might have a good idea, their execution is poor. I wouldn't have a problem if the prices were halved. It felt like a slap in the face to order a $40 ribeye and get a tough piece of meat and some boiled vegetables. Never again. read more

Fun place! It is a tiki themed restaurant where you get to cook your own meat on lava rocks. Drinks were delicious (although definitely did not have much alcohol in them). They had a whole menu of frozen drinks that were amazing and not on the online menu. It was really empty when we went on a Tuesday but service was great. read more

Place looks super sweet. We had an 8yr olds birthday there and we had a blast. Staff was helpful and everyone was in a great mood. It wasn't very busy so it was nice to feel like they still cared. Steaks were good. Hot lava rocks are cool. They need more sides than a few variations of potatoes. For being "tiki" themed they should have light veggie and fruit sides to go with this delicious steak that you have to scarf down so that you don't over cook it on your seven thousand degree lava rock. They show and descrive on the entree description on the menus, that they come with zucchini, red peppers, squash, portabella mushrooms, and onions. I had a pleasant visit to Hot Rocks but was disappointed in both the service and portion sizes. They have call buttons on the table to alert your waiter when you are ready to order or need the check. Went here with my sister and boyfriend. The restaurant is decorated in Polynesian theme with a bar in the front. We were greeted by a hostess when we entered and were promptly seated at a table. I did like that they have little tiki statues with a call button at the tables you could press for service. They have a selection of appetizers/salads/soups to order and all entrees come with a dinner roll and vegetables. When they bring out your entree it comes out on a hot lava stone and you sear your food on it. They also provide you with 3 different dipping sauces based on your entree. Honestly I was expecting a fin cooking concept with bland food but everything tasted amazing, even without the sauces. I had ordered the lamb-chops which were seasoned to perfection, just needed a quick flip on the stone and i was enjoying my meal. My bf got the filet and lobster tail combo and my sis got the fish combo which came with your choice of salmon or ahi with 2 shrimp and 2 scallops. TL;DR: close to being a really great restaurant, needs some server training, better directions, less tacky decor. Also don't spray chemicals on the table that smell while we are eating-- gross. But food was really good, and it was a fun time. This is such a unique idea for a restaurant, so we were excited to try it out, despite my misgivings about the irony of paying to cook our own food. The decor inside was just short of TGI Friday's-level commercial, which was surprising considering this isn't a chain. It felt like it though, between the laminated menu with pictures and the tiki head on each table with buttons to call your server. We started with the cheese curds for an app-- they were clearly frozen and not homemade-- gross and greasy. Speaking of servers, ours was nice, but failed to explain the restaurant concept to us before we ordered. If we had not have researched before we came, we would have had no idea what to expect. A simple "have you been here before?" followed by directions and explanations on how the restaurant worked would have done wonders for our experience. But instead, we got clipped and quick directions on how to cook our food (which were wrong-- if we only cooked the 2" thick ribeye for 3 minutes as instructed it would have been blue) and then were told to press the button if we needed anything else. What was most concerning at first was that we had raw meat and only 1 set of utensils-- our fork and knife. We were supposed to flip our raw meat with the same fork we are eating it with?? After I asked we were informed the meat was sushi grade and safe-- but that was alarming! Also it was difficult to flip the food with a fork and knife-- I think a huge improvement would be supplying tongs! Our server never cleared away our used app plates, drinks, etc. we had to ask for more water by pushing a button. This made me feel rude for asking! On the plus side, the food was great! It was seasoned really well, and we cooked it well on the rocks. However, the rocks lost some of their heat later on and I wasn't able to get my salmon skin crispy. It would have been nice to be told to cook everything right away instead of eating in shifts. Again, this could have been fixed with some better crafted directions! While we were eating, the staff also was cleaning the table behind us, and was spraying a chemical which was very disruptive smell-wise while we were eating! This restaurant is close to being a great place to visit, but just needs some server training, better directions, and less tacky decor. Good food though! read more

It took a good 45-60 minutes to even get our drinks! Our entrees about 2.5-3 hours. The place wasn't even that busy! Food was sub-par at best. Overpriced for what I'd classify as frozen 5-day steak! At least they thawed it out...would have even taken longer to cook! I could never exactly figure out who our waitress was either-saw the girl maybe twice. What a joke! I ended up paying the bill, as I had suggested this place as a fun option; there for, felt somewhat obligated to. They took a ten percent discount, and told me not to tip, as they were in the wrong. When our order was taken we waited another 20 minutes and our server came back to the table to ask if we wanted our drinks now or with our meal.
