All our meals were perfect . Salad bar was definitely worthless haha but we were warned from staff it was slim pickings because they are trying to run out before holiday break . Very disappointing experience at the Broken Spur tonight. I ordered the bourbon steak tips for $27. The menu clearly stated that the entrée included the chef's vegetable and one side, so I planned to upgrade my side to cheese curds for an additional $4. However, the server told me the steak tips did not come with any sides and that the menu was incorrect. She even said she has to explain this to customers frequently. If management knows the menu is wrong, it should have been corrected by now. We were also given a complimentary starter consisting of a few Keebler Club crackers, cheese curds and small containers of what appeared to be coleslaw and possibly butter or cheese spread. I tried one of the cheese curds, and it was moldy. When I told our server, she simply said, "Oh." There was no apology, and she only removed the cheese curds rather than the entire plate. She brought more curds, but after finding mold on the first serving, I certainly wasn't comfortable eating them. We asked whether the salmon was fresh or frozen and were told it was frozen, despite being priced at approximately $23. Another person in our party ordered the French dip, and the server asked whether they wanted it as a French dip or a Philly. Getting a clear explanation of the difference took far more effort than it should have; eventually, we were told the Philly simply included onions and peppers. Between the inaccurate menu, moldy food and the server's dismissive response, we no longer felt comfortable eating there. We got up and left and went to the Chinese restaurant next door instead, which turned out to be the better choice for the evening. The Broken Spur presents itself as a higher-end steak and seafood restaurant, but our experience did not come close to meeting that standard. First off, it takes a lot for me to do a negative review. That is not my style. But here it goes: Save yourself. This place is horrific. We ordered a $100 bottle of dry red wine and it was served in small white wine glasses with a broken cork and a black napkin wrapped around the label of the bottle that was already open when she brought it to the table. When we asked if baby carrots were the vegetable and we joked about how many people have been throwing them away (because we had sat at the bar waiting for a table and heard others complaining about the baby carrots) and said we don't like baby carrots , no substitute was offered Then the waitress forgot our salads. Worst filet my husband has ever had. No flavor at all. His filet and my prime rib were at room temperature at best. (We did not report this. At this point we knew we were somewhere that no one cared!) . When we ordered our meal, there were several potatoes offered to us, one of them sweet potatoe fried, so we went with that and then we were upcharged for it with without being told so. We were not offered dessert, although a good time to offer it was when I kindly asked that our bill reflect the fact that we didn't receive our salads. Server came back and told us there was nothing she could do about it, that the salad was part of the price of the meal. That would've been a great time to offer us a free dessert or a discounted dessert but dessert was never offered. We very rarely write bad reviews and we tip very well normally 30-50%. Our bill was $218.18. For decent service we would leave $50! Not tonight. It pained me but I only that $20. This was a sh$t show! Oh we also sat there with our empty plates until we left. No one bussed our table. The assistant manager didn't ever offer to bus our table as we complained about it. We watched our server bus another table nearby, an 8 top. We also got to sit and listen to another table complain about the service. We ended up talking to the assistant manager before we left because I wanted to give them an opportunity to make this right. She offered a gift card for us to return there. We explained that we live six hours away and that we would not be returning. She offered nothing else. When asked what she would've done differently to make sure we had a better experience she really couldn't come up with anything other than she was going to be talking with her servers because she had some new servers. She did say that if someone was rude to her she wouldn't come back to bus the table although I assured her that I was not rude to the server at all. The assistant manager didn't even bus our table when told that was something that had bothered us. Seriously this place is a joke! If they consider themselves to be a steak and seafood restaurant or some sort of fine dining, they need to go back to pub & grill and hope for the best. Have stayed at the Lodge many times and the hotel is wonderful...the restaurant not so much. Ordered a signature cocktail was disappointed, as it tasted like rail vodka with no flavoring. Ordered the special appetizer, which we never received. Over an hour later, received our food. All of us ordered medium filets, 3 were well done and 1 was bleu. All of the steaks were over seasoned. Plates were overly decorated with inedible flowers, dirty mini root vegetables, and sauces that didn't complement the filets. Received the wrong potato for one dish, and was brought a meal from another table to switch with. Baked potatoes were served cold (couldn't melt butter). We were never checked on throughout the meal. When the bill arrived it was incorrect and took us 15 minutes to get corrected. We have given this restaurant a couple of chances and will NOT be returning. read more

I gotta tell you. We went to July 27, 2024. There was a new reopening with a chef. On the 16th of July and sadly. We probably will not go back. my wife and I loved this place. We normally order the prime rib shave beef sandwich. We took pictures each time we went and joked about that. That they use the half, a loaf of French bread to make it, the mushrooms and onions and the cheese on top of it was like a cherry on top ofa sundae, but when we got our new one with the new chef it was half the size or less believe it !! Also, he put the liquid sauteed onions and mushrooms on the bottom of the bun. So it was soggy. My wife could barely pick it up to eat it. And she did make a comment where was the cheese Next. I ordered the PAN-fried walleye, like I do many other times it came out. It looked like it was baked. I asked the waitress, which was fabulous. What is this? She rolled he eyes and said, Well, he grills the walleye. Well, I'll tell you. It was the worst tasting fish I have ever had. we live in Wisconsin Fish everywhere, whatever seasoning and what my wife said slime, that was on it. Tasted terrible, and I had a to go box to take it home, and I left it on the table. That's how bad it was my vegetables on my meal were cold. They look good they probably would have tasted even better hot. Also, they changed the appeither and took off the herring, which we normally don't eat but it was fabulous. I have to tell you. My family has been here 5x and it blows us away each time. The food - phenomenal. Venue - pristine. Staff - supreme; superior to all others. We recommend Broken Spur to all who don't even ask for recommendations. The food is 100x better than it looks. The chef, waitstaff go out of their way, the extra 20 miles, to make sure you have a great experience. If you want food so good, all you can do is moan and not even speak, and service so good you leave with a smile on your face - THIS IS THE PLACE. To add, with a son who is very sensory sensitive - this place is amazing. The lighting is perfectly dimmed, no ballasts (no light hum), tables are perfectly spaced so you don't feel crowded, it's never too loud and you never feel like you're being too loud. My wife and I visited here last night after receiving a recommendation to go for dinner. The atmosphere was nice and clean, and it was pretty busy for a Friday night. We did make reservations the day before. The menu had a lot to choose from including steaks and seafood. The prices were very reasonable and for what you get it was well worth it. They give you a ton of sides too. My wife had the special - grilled walleye which came with wild rice, broccolini, and choice of soup or salad. Couple that with the amazing bread on the table and it was a lot of food! I got the 8oz filet and it was PERFECT. I got the loaded potato soup which was amazing and the au gratin potatoes as a side and they were the best I may have ever eaten. You MUST order these! The portion side is huge so you could share if your wanted to. All in all, great experience and will definitely go back soon! We will be recommending to others as well. A+++ read more

Without exaggeration, the 14oz bone-out ribeye was easily the best steak of that particular cut that I have had in a decade. The proprietor of this place also owns the RBJ Ranch in northeastern Wyoming, which apparently is the supplier of the beef. What a gem of a place -- I only found it since I happened to be driving from Chicago to Minneapolis and needed a pit-stop on the way. I would probably make the three-hour drive up from Chicago just for dinner here! 10/10 will visit again. read more

This is our 2nd time here and both time we're very happy with our dinner. Tonite our waitress, Danielle was energetic and made our dinner more enjoyable. I had the Ribeye Dinner which was "amazing". The presentation, flavor and tenderness, made it one of the best steaks I have ever had. Hash browns were also very good. My wife had the Walleye Dinner, which she said was "good". The Broken Spur is located inside a hotel or lodge. Very nice restaurant and hotel. I had called 10 days prior to our visit since we were a large group of 11 people. The hostess who took our reservation over the phone mentioned that she needed to get clearance from the chef before accepting our reservation and that she would call me back with confirmation. I thought it was unusual to get clearance from the chef but I agreed to that condition. The Monday before our pending reservation I called back as nobody had called back to confirm. The restaurant closes on Monday thus the receptionist took my message and promptly the following day the hostess called me back with the confirmation for dinner for 11 people. Dinner night we get to the restaurant, very nice place, the hostess said they were waiting for other guests to finish their dinner for them to set up our table. No problem. We patiently waited for about 20 minutes at the bar. No big deal. We're looking at the Google reviews in the meantime and at pictures of food served at the restaurant and deciding what we'd wanted to order. 4 of us wanted the Oscar bone in rib eye. We got our table. The waitress introduces herself and starts bringing some snacks that included fish in vinegar, cheese and crackers and something else which I can't recall. But I noticed that 4 of us didn't have appetizer plates or silverware...I asked the waitress for them. She acknowledged my request took our dinner order and walked away. Several minutes passed by and some of us are enjoying the snacks and some of us are just looking. I asked the hostess for silverware. She walks away. OK.... waited and waited. I saw our waitress again and reminded her of our appetizer plates and silverware, she mumbles something like we don't have any and rushes off. Ok, I flagged the hostess again and requested silverware again that's when she said "we don't have anymore silverware but could bring plastic utensils until some are available and cleaned...." I exclaimed "what??!" And judging from my facial expression she just quickly walked away. I mean this is not only a nice, upscale-looking steakhouse and seafood restaurant but a hotel too and they don't have enough silverware for all their guests?? So that means that they have more seats than silverware! Not to exclude hotel guests who at some point might want to order in-room service. When the silverware finally arrives pretty much with our dinner order, we got salad forks to eat our steak with! Really?? By the way my Oscar bone in rib eye was a big piece of meat with hollandaise sauce slathered on top and three esparragous spears on top. A far cry from the fancy looking plate that we had seen on Google review! On the other hand, our waitress could've been a bit more straight forward about the circumstances and maybe more creative in keeping us distracted from the lack of basic elements at the restaurant and no help from anybody at all. She did her best and waited on us well enough, considering the circumstances. The hostess very friendly and as helpful ad she could. Overall the food was tasty and plentiful at a decent price. With a reservation we still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Once seated it was another 15 before someone came to wait on us and another 20 before we were served. The steak was very good but the rest of the meal was subpar. Way too expensive for what they provide. I am willing to pay quality but they just didn't deliver. If want to eat at the Broken Spur order an à la carte steak "to go" and make your own sides at home. I think you'll be satisfied since you're only paying for what's worth buying and you avoid the horrible service. read more
