Wings, fries and Mac and cheese! Yum

We are passing through the I95 corridor on our way home from FL and saw the sign on the highway and decided to stop in. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the friendly young lady behind the counter. The place is clean and bright and they had music on that made you feel like this is a fun place to be. I ordered the fried whiting, mac & cheese and green beans and the fish was seasoned and fried perfectly. The Mac and cheese was good and the green beans were good as well. Hubby loved the wing too! Definitely we will be back again when traveling through and I already told friends in the area to try this spot!

The employees and owner is very nice however, service is a bit slow. I wouldn't have mind if I didn't try to call my order in but the young lady on the phone said they would not be taking phone orders since the line was out the door. I arrived 5 mins later and the line was minimal. The shrimp were well seasoned just sucks they don't have homemade tartar sauce just regular packets that isn't quite good. The Mac and cheese was good as well. Now, I had higher hopes for the chicken but it was basic fried chicken with no flavor. Maybe they should season the chicken the same as the shrimp. The chicken was only flavorful when dipped in their special sauce. As far as the cabbage, I wouldn't order it again. I also had the banana pudding which tasted store brought not like someone's granny was in the back doing her thing!. I would try eating here again with a follow up review.

Everyone has been talking about this place lately, so I decided to stop by. When I walked in, they were packed. There was a line, people waiting on orders, and more people coming in behind me. The person taking orders at the register was Trinity, or at least that's the name on my receipt, and she was GREAT. She answered questions, stayed respectful, and kept the line moving. I ordered a barbecue sandwich and a piece of catfish. I'm not usually a fish person, but it was surprisingly good and didn't have a strong fishy taste (8.5/10). The barbecue sandwich was my favorite though. I got it with slaw and their barbecue sauce, and it was so good (11/10!). I'll definitely be back. I just need to come earlier next time because they were out of mac and cheese and baked beans, which I really wanted to try. Note that I got there around 6:10-6:15 after work, and they close at 6:30 .. so that was on me.

I had been chasing Hot Rod's food truck for over a year, got a taste at VSU homecoming last year and it was delicious. I needed it again!! Today I had the opportunity to stop by his restaurant... and let me tell you--it was worth every bit of the wait! Now that he has a restaurant, I can get my fix whenever they're open and I'm in town! The catfish fried hard was cooked to perfection--crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. The mac and cheese was rich, cheesy, and everything you want in comfort food. And those candied yams? Sweet, buttery, and absolutely delicious! If you're in or around Petersburg, do yourself a favor and stop by. The food is amazing, the portions are on point, and you can taste the love in every bite.

I love a good food spot and traveling always brings it out. Hot Rod's is conveniently located next to a gas station and there is plenty of parking. I ordered white meat, potato salad and baked beans. I'm sorry I forgot to take pictures of the beautiful fried whiting, potato salad and string beans. Each bite was delicious and just to let you know.... The customers keep coming & share stories of eating from the food truck See you there real soon

I went in 40 mins before closing and it seems like that's one of the busiest times. My food was made fresh and was hot. It did not take long to come out. I sat in the parking lot to get a quick taste and I am happy I did!!! The food was delicious!!! I will be returning to try other menu items!

Yes, it's attached to a gas station. YES the food is incredible!! I had the fried catfish platter and when I tell you it was perfect, I mean it was "roll your eyes back in your head and do the happy dance in your seat" perfect.

Again - Well worth the wait. I have to emphasize that because at first glance, there doesn't look like much. There's one buffet stand with a small salad stand at the end, a carving station, and one dessert stand tucked in the corner. I consider myself quite the connoisseur of down home Virginia cooking, and it can be hard to find a place that gets it right, but Nanny's knocks it out of the park. The parking lot isn't jumping for nothing! A lot of the reviews mention the items available in detail, and the menu rotates a little, so I'm going to stick to the highlights. Navy bean soup - outstanding and very soppable. String beans - perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes topped with some hamburger steak and gravy - homemade and melt in your mouth. Crispy crunchy moist fried chicken. Seasoned and tender greens. All the BBQ offerings - traditional and flavorful without doing too much. The desserts? Fresh out of your gramma's kitchen. I did almost take off a star because the banana pudding didn't have any whip or meringue on top, but everything was so outstanding I'll let it slide :) The price is, I think, more than fair for the quality of the food. They also never let anything run out for too long and fresh supply was in and out of the kitchen regularly. Top that off with friendly faces, quick service, and an atmosphere that's more like being at a family reunion than a restaurant, and you've got one heck of a spot for good eating!

Stopped by for the lunch buffet on a weekday. Buffet ran about $15 and we found it to be worth…read moreevery penny. First trip to the buffet, I tried the fried chicken (skin was a little too salty for me, but the meat itself was juicy and delicious), the hushpuppies (so crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside: delicious!), mashed potatoes with hamburger steak and gravy (soooooooooo good!!!), cabbage (good), Mac n cheese (soooooo cheesy and delicious. I could feel my arteries clogging, but that's how you know it is good), chopped bbq (tasty, but I would have loved a different bbq sauce, theirs is a little too vinegar heavy for my personal preference), and a sausage (soooooo good! I could have eaten about 50 of them!). Also had some potato salad and Cole slaw on the side that were both straight out of my childhood in Georgia. My second trip to the buffet, I had to get more mashed potatoes and hamburger with gravy, Mac n cheese, and hush puppies because they were awesome. Added some chicken and dumplings (yum!), corn (sooooooo great mixed with the mashed potatoes), as well as the peach cobbler (I wish the peaches were chopped smaller so they weren't so hard to swallow), apple cobbler (pretty good), and banana pudding (amazing!!!) I wish I had room for a cup of their ice cream, it was all those little cups but they had a bunch of flavors like vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and COFFEE! I'll save some space next time. Everyone we interacted with was super nice and the decor looks like every barbecue restaurant I've ever been in with pig decor everywhere. I really like that They used more spices than just salt. This is one of the very few buffets I've ever been to that. It was not just overwhelmingly salty I also really liked their waiting room for when the restaurant gets too crowded and you have to get put on a list. There was so much seating that I would not have been annoyed standing around waiting for my table. We did not have to this time, because we were seated immediately, but it's good to know that you have options if you're ever here during a really crowded time of day. I will say that the temperature was a little too warm for my likings, so even though a lot of the clientele of a certain age shall we say were very comfortable, we ended up sweating and feeling a bit nauseated by the time it was time to go because it was just so hot. Definitely going sleeveless clothes next time I come here. I cannot wait to come back and demolish their buffet again. It was all so good.

I looked up the history on Google because I was curious about how old this diner was. This little diner has been open since 1920 and in its current location since 1939. If you during peak hours you'll have to wait for a table but it's pretty quick. The food is good. The grits and greens are made with water so it's a little more runny than I like (I like my grits made with milk). The potatoes pancakes are always good, definitely a staple. I also ordered the biscuit and gravy, I will say this was not a favorite of mine. The gravy wasn't a smooth consistency and again made with water vs milk. The eggs and bacon, are just that. I ordered my eggs over medium they came out more so over well. Overall I like the Dixie, I go back every now and then. The inside feels and looks like your typical diner. It has pictures all over the walls of its past so that's pretty cool.

This place has officially become my #1 spot in Hampton. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, the consistency, the 10-star decor, and the "royal" atmosphere always deliver. ** The Vibe & The Art** The atmosphere is like a high-end nightclub lounge meets a classy art gallery. Surrounded by phenomenal **Artbae** portraits of legends like **Prince, Duke Ellington, and Sammy Davis Jr.**, you just find your "lucky table" and soak it all in. It's the best seat in the city, period. ** Top-Shelf Service & The "Rewards Fumble"** The service is unmatched. **Taj** behind the bar is a master of the craft, staying in perfect stride with a buzzing Friday crowd while keeping things personable. **Pro Tip:** Don't be like me--**get your rewards points!** I have missed my "coins" the last couple of times I came because the second that food hits the table, it is so succulent and ready to be devoured that points are the *last* thing on my mind.
