Hidden on a mall strip and unless you are looking for it, it's not all that visible. I've come over a few times. It's inexpensive and you get lots of food your the price. Individual hot pot boiler at your table, you chose your broth and then your protein and veggies. You control the temperature and way you want your pit cooked. There's a spice/sauce bar you can choose condiments from. It's a fun experience but not fancy nor with lots of decor or vibes going on. Just come to eat and go!

My friend took me out for my birthday dinner and because I always have a craving for hot pot we went to Hot Spot. It was not busy for a Monday evening, but they were very slow at bringing our orders out. By the time we made our sauce and our soups were boiling, they still have not brought out the meat. We had to flag a server down two separate times to remind them, which was a bit annoying. The wall decor made the interior appear modern, but the barriers in between tables made the place look dull and cramped. Overall, the food quality and service were mediocre compared to other AYCE hot pot places.

Great hot pot place with a variety of meats and veggie options. The service was pretty fast as they brought out our items soon after we ordered. Our server checkin on us frequently and made sure to refill our broths whenever it got low. Absolutely loved the drinks for the Halloween special. I was able to try the Jell-O shots and the blood bag. Both were fun drinks and made our time at hot spot more fun. Definitely a great place to hangout with friends or a date.

Neat place where you have your own self service burners to boil your broth and cook at the table. The mushroom broth was good. Vegetables were fresh. There wasn't a lot of sauces to pick from. The proteins that they give are in small portions esiecually shrimp and scallops. Ambiance is okay, there was a stall where it was cordoned off with yellow tape like a crime scene, just looked messy for a dining place.

The unlimited hot pot provided great value for the money. We used a groupon deal. Note their dinner prices are all weekend. They offered high quality hot pot ingredients including thinly sliced prime ribeye beef, scallops, octopus, squid, king oyster mushrooms along with all the staples like puffed tofu, fish balls, and a variety of vegetables and noodles. They also had a self serve build your own sauce station. The scallops tasted slightly fishy and too blanch since they arrived in a frozen block but other than that all the ingredients were delicious. Much easier than shopping and prepping at home.

We got the family hotpot, it was delicious but there were some concerns. - Everytime we order a few things, half of them don't come out. We asked the waitress and yet still doesnt come out. - When we asked a refill for the soup, all they did was add hot water to the soup. Which originally our soup color was red for the tom yum, and clear for the shabu2 broth, it ended up looking like the same color because how watered down it is.

Family Style Shabu Shabu and Tom Yum Hot Pot with fillings to put in

Saw this place on Groupon and went with my fiancé and friend a week ago for Saturday lunch. Called to make reservations and they do not take it for small groups. However, there were plenty of open tables for us which had both individual small and large family style hot pot grills. They were very COVID friendly with plexiglass between many tables, all wear masks, and they take temperatures of all patrons which is greatly appreciated. Perhaps soon, if they feel comfortable, they could check vaccination cards as well but this is not quite a commonplace practice yet. We chose the family style hot pot and got both Shabu Shabu and Tom Yum Broths. We chose with Prime Ribeye Beef, Lamb, and Beef Tongue for the meats. Our fish was Tilapia and Flounder. The starches were Udon, Ramen, and Rice Cakes. We also chose Fish Cakes in the Misc Meats category. The six veggie items we picked were Chinese Broccoli, Bamboo Shoots, Baby Corn, Enoki Mushrooms, Straw Mushrooms, and King Oyster Mushrooms. It was all delicious and a very fun experience and will likely come when back in the Fairfax area.

Outstanding service from Joseph! From the moment we sat down, Joseph was very attentive and friendly. Everything was fresh, and we would definitely return!

Protip: don't wear a white or nice shirt. You're gonna catch some broth splatter no matter how careful you are. I loved that it was all you could eat. I can't imagine most people would want to stay past the 2 hour mark. But you can pick what you want and enjoy the tasty broth and their menu options. I really liked the mini dumplings, scallops, and marinated pork. While we were waiting for the food I made a spicy dipping sauce at the sauce bar but after tasting the broth I went back and made a mild umami one. The sichuan peppercorns got me!

I'm hot pottin'.

Decent price, especially during lunch hours. Quality, consistency, and variety of products and dipping sauces are all solid.

Ask the Community - Hot Spot

What are the vegan options? Is there a spicy broth that's vegan friendly?

Is place is super vegan friendly. They have Veggie broth specifically for Vegans

Is it all you can eat?

Yes, definitely. The max we could fill ourselves was to a 3rd run. Almost felt bursting at that point. They do ask to limit choices of 3 choices from protein, carb and seafood section and 6 from vegetables.

Is this place kid friendly and do they have a kids price? I have a 2 year old that will eat most of this stuff, just not sure if the atmosphere is accommodating.

Kids 6 and under eat free. Personally I don't think the atmosphere is kid-friendly but I've noticed…

Did they go out of business? I tried calling but the number is out of service

They've reopen 10/27/18

Are there gluten free options?

Yeah! I actually wrote a Hot Spot review specifically for this topic :). It's a great place if you have gluten allergies or Celiac's disease! (Or if you're just eating-gluten free)

Can you order 1 for two people or do two people have to have their own?

You can share a pot or have individual pots

2 questions: Only way to make a reservation is to call them? And, what is the dinner price for adults? Thanks!

They accept reservation only party of 6 or more, and adult should be cost about $23. Weekend will be packed, if you have more than 6. Recommend to make one.

Does anyone know what is in their broths? Do they add sugars. Does it have soy or any nitrates etc in it?

There are a different kinds of broth which you cab choose from, ex veggie broth, tom yum (spicy) broth...etc

What is the lunch price for adults?

$22 per person! AYCE

Do they do anything for birthdays?

I don't think so

This is my friend and I's favorite place to catch up if we haven't seen each other for a long time!…read moreIt's absolutely the best, the food is comforting the ordering process is sooooo seamless and there is always staff around if you need to ask questions, but the process is very simple you can just order everything on the iPad. Also love it when they have the revolving belt on and you can just grab items to try from there. I will always recommend this hot pot to anyone that asks, their food is fresh, there is something for everyone and they have a great sauce bar where you can mix and match and get creative with the blend. I will never stop raving about this place!

The food/ingredient selection is varied, and they always give a lot per serving, which is much appreciated. I love the tom yum soup as a base because it has that slight tang. My only gripes about this location are the size of the sauce bar and (rarely) the attitudes of the servers. The sauce bar is simply too small when it's busy because the line starts to go around the restaurant. As for the server comment, there have been instances where I've been there with a larger party, and they have asked if we're "actually" going to finish the food we've ordered. It's not enough to really stop me from coming back, but it's just an odd comment to make (though I get it with the extra food charge).

It can get crowded inside, but it has never been intolerable. It is very well maintained and clean. Sometimes service may be slow but you will definitely be served. The cuts of meat and the wide variety of self serve hot pot options have never disappointed. The vegetables and mushrooms are always fresh and nicely prepared. I usually stick to lamb and beef, and if you are satisfied with those then go for it. The meat is consistently well balanced and never too lean or overly fatty. Just beautiful cuts. I have tried several broths including original, spicy, tomato, and pickled veggie chicken and all were exactly what you would expect and very satisfying. For such an established chain, it is impressive that it continues to get better. Recently they added more beverage options beyond the soda machine, which is already included with the dinner price, including my hot pot favorite drink, plum juice. One thing to note is that if you try to go on Fridays after 8pm, you will probably not get a seat. I went once, but the waitlist was already hours long by 7:30pm so I went elsewhere. They also have a milk pudding dessert that is very good, but not sure why it was not available the last time I visited.....

We have never actually tried the shabu…read moreshabu, the Vietnamese menu is small but so good that we always end up ordering the same thing every time. My mom is a big fan of their canh bun here which is a crab cake and water spinach noodle soup. You can also add fried soft shell crab for an additional cost & it tastes great with it. They are also known among Vietnamese people for their Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm because not a lot of restaurants in this area have it on their menus. During our most recent visit in April 2026, they have added a new noodle soup called Bún mọc which is a rice vermicelli noodle light broth with pork meatballs, mushrooms, and carrots. For the Vietnamese food, it tastes authentic and is very popular in the Vietnamese community.

A HIDDEN GEM. Ever…read moresince I got back from Japan, I've been craving shabu shabu, specifically with sukiyaki broth. I will say the seating is a bit strange, but in a cool way. It's kind of like bar seating, so you can see all the action from the workers in the middle. And. Let. Me. Tell. You. The ladies working in the middle are so nice. They explain the menu, walk you through how everything works, and make sure to check for any allergies before you order. They start you with a side of veggies, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, etc., and a side of udon, even though they tell you not to use the udon until the end. Then you order the protein or proteins you want. After that, you basically squish squish until the meat is cooked and go for it. I got the signature beef, which is what they're known for, and the scallops. Both were very good and fresh. At the end, they mix all the veggies you have left with the udon, and it basically becomes a big noodle soup. You can always order extra sides or add ons, though. Definitely one of my new favorites!

Have tried Izakaya Nana, Genki Izakaya and Super Kyuramen and been to Izakayas in Tokyo and Kyoto…read more I love that so many Izakayas have opened in the NoVA area. The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.
