This place opened only about a week ago so they deserve some grace while they shake out the bugs. Food was very good! I had a gyro which was probably the largest I've ever been served, much bigger than other offerings in this area and otherwise it competes strongly. I also ordered sides of hummus and falafel which were both excellent and well priced. I was delighted to see they sell shwarma wraps but mine with chicken was a little on the dry side. Glad I asked for an extra side of their garlic sauce. However, that lacked a lot of its signature punch, which tells me it may be a few days old. Perfectly safe but the garlic flavor of that stuff mellows rapidly. The ambience is yet quite steril but the service was exceptional! I'm confident this place will become part of my weekly rotation.

Dropped by after work to pick up dinner. I got the falafel wrap and the falafel itself was good, but I'm disappointed in the authenticity of this place. I saw packaged Mission tortillas being used for the wraps. At least get Mediterranean wraps from a specialty place. The garlic sauce was good, but the hot sauce was Asian sambal rather than a homemade hot sauce. read more

Ordered the gyro and chicken shawarma for delivery. The shawarma wasn't bad but the gyro was definitely better and larger. That's what I'd order again and would recommend. Portion sizes were legit too, especially for the gyro. Overall a good spot. read more

Place has been shut down for two weeks for health code violations but their site is still processing orders through Zing. Zing's refund system doesn't work and no one replies to customer service inquiries. Update: Zing did process the refund request but Hot Spot refused to return my money. read more

We had originally had plans to go to another place and they were closed and we saw this place and thought we would stop on their advertisement it said to mention that it was our first time there and you would get a special treat they acted like they didn't know what we were talking about or they didn't understand English and we got nothing and the food was subpar. The Gyro had lettuce on it and I have never seen anybody put lettuce on it and also the hummus had no flavor whatsoever and it was very expensive not worth the trip I would not go back. read more

Chicken shawarma was the meal I purchased from Hot Spot Gyro..it was amazingly delicious I do wish however that more veggies were in the wrap itself. Definitely will be going back to explore the rest of the menu without a doubt. The service was excellent, even though they were busy they kept smiles on their faces and treated everybody with absolute respect. I was excited to see this place open up so close to where I live. Ordered a gyro and some hummus to go, their portions are large and the food tasted excellent. The hummus was delicious, perfect texture and flavor. Gyro was also delicious. I will absolutely be headed back and will probably become a frequent flyer as I am looking forward to trying everything. I have a serious allergy to one specific ingredient and the man who helped me was awesome in that we used a translation app so he knew exactly what I was referring to when he recognized the word allergy to make sure I was good for any selection! read more

Amazing people who deserve your dollars. Went here all the time while in grad school at TCU and have not had a better one since moving away. Gyro sandwich was good. Dolmas are out of a can. Veggies were fresh. Prices printed on paper menu and above counter (with a tiny .99 appended, lol) didn't match the amount charged. Not much, like .25 per item. I pointed it out to them and they seemed to have a problem correcting it so I deducted it from their tip. read more

When I got home, I was surprised by how generous the portions were for the price. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully balanced. The spices were used perfectly, the produce tasted fresh, and the food even held its temperature well by the time I got home. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
