Lots of choices should suit just about anybody's tastes. We were looking for something different for dinner to please adults and kids and came across Hotdog-opolis when reviewing restaurants on Yelp! The choices sounded good to the group so we gave this restaurant a try. What's nice about Yelp! is that you find different restaurants like Hotdog-opolis which you've never heard of despite having lived in a town for a long time. There are a bunch of choices on their hot dogs (plus some specialty types made from a variety of meats). Plus there are a bunch of different beers to choose from. I went with the Boston "Bean" Dog (baked beans, melted cheddar, bacon and onions although I declined the onions) along with fries and a Floridian beer from Funky Buddha. It was a tasty combination, although I would have preferred less cheese because it overwhelmed some of the other flavors. The bun was fresh and tasted good although I also would have liked it to be a little less soft in order to support all of the rest of the toppings. None fell out and I'm sure they've found it to be the best choice, but I was worried about floppiness. My friend is a vegetarian and she enjoyed her veggie dog, with the same feeling about a slightly sturdier bun. My daughter had the Buffalo "Wing" Dog (blue cheese, celery, wing sauce and ranch dressing), and she liked it although also thought the cheese/ranch amounts were a little too heavy. Those comments aside, it should be said that they are not skimping on toppings. I would have liked to have tried another hot dog, but one and some fries was enough for me. We'll have to go back to try others. There are maybe 5 or six tables to choose from and about another 10 chairs at a counter. It's not a huge place, but there was enough seating and many may opt for take-out. When we checked in on Yelp!, we got a 25% discount which was a great deal! If someone you know tells you XYZ dog is great, then you'll be very happy with this place. Don't hesitate to order that recommended dog. Being a Chicago transplant and dive restaurant lover, I had high hopes for this place. I was fortunate enough to come on a holiday when traffic was light. Despite no customers at arrival & 3 employees, I had to stand at a confusing (where do I order) counter for a full 3 minutes before acknowledged. But I grade heavily on food over service or low rent surrounding, so let's give this place a shot. Ordered 2 dogs. The Chicago & the Southern. The older gentlemen who eventually got around to taking my order as I was the only customer in the joint who was standing at the counter, screwed up my order. He somehow heard "Jumbo" when I said "Southern". Hmm. Those two words don't sound too similar to me. This establishment is really a case study in inefficient service. But I'm game for anything if the food is up to par. I pointed out the error on my receipt after having to wait about 10 minutes in line since 2 new customers had entered. The order was corrected. I must say, the Chicago Dog was authentic. I know. I've had plenty in Chicago. The Vienna sausage has a strong flavor but the onions, relish, sausage, mustard were on point. You either love or hate Chicago Dogs but if you like them, their version will scratch your itch. I enjoyed my Chicago Dog. The Southern Dog with pulled pork, coleslaw, and Vienna sausage was terrible. I love pulled pork. I love coleslaw. But the whole dog was completely blown away by the overwhelming flavor of the Vienna sausage. It was a disaster of a combination. And individually, I love all the ingredients. But as a combination...avoid it. I don't know who came up with this combination but it would have been tolerable without the Vienna sausage but it was an utter disaster with the sausage. Generally, it's a dive restaurant. The ordering process is not clear. Where do you order? There are two counters and no signage. Thankfully when I entered, I was the only person in line so I wasn't jumped by a regular who knew the process. Where do you pick up your order when it's ready? Where do you find forks? I suppose within a few trips you'll figure it all out. Why does it take 10 super skimpy napkins to get through a dog with clean fingers versus having decent napkins that would maybe only require 1 or 2. Why isn't the new customer who has no clue where to order visually clued in where to go so the regulars can't cut in front and make the new customer wait another 10 minutes to order.. It's just a poorly executed business who had quality sausages. Some that hit the mark and some that are more an exercise in theoretical favorite combinations. I love to support dive bars, dive restaurants, one off location, non-chain establishments. But ignoring the dive status, when one dog is up to par and another with flavors & ingredients that I love is a disaster, it's hard to give this place any rating above average. read more

(Full Disclosure: I'm an aficionado of hotdogs and sausages) Since starting work in Boca I've been looking for all the unique and popular places to eat food. I came here for lunch when I saw the name in Yelp. Small place and you can almost miss it if you're not paying attention. As I walked inside there was other people on their lunch breaks and some families their with kids as well. They had a tv showing some tennis matches as you waited for you turn to order. I'll usually go crazy and order something other than the norm after I try a good ol' fashioned type hotdog. I ended up getting the standard dog with ketchup, mustard, onions, relish (super green btw) & chilli. I got the fries with it as well. It took about 15 minutes but BOY when I started eating it, I was very happy. It was like $11 after tax for the whole meal and I thought I was going to have to order another hotdog. The do, you can tell was grilled right there, it was of the jumbo variety and the bread was potato if I'm not mistaken. It was also a bit on the longer side as well. This is not your average hot dog joint, folks! They have many different varieties of hot dogs and sausages. I wanted to try to keep it on the healthier side so I ordered a bison dog with kraut and mustard. Ok, so I had a side order of cheese fries too! The Chicago dog looked pretty good and they also have burgers, salads and sausage sandwiches! This is a fantastic place to go for lunch, order food for pick up or even delivery (through Eat 24). I was born and raised in Chicago and this place gets my approval. I have been about 6 times in a month since I have found out about it and will continue to go until I return back to Chicago. Vienna beef in stock so you know its going to be good. Service is friendly and the setup is similar to a Chicago hot dog place. A few times when I was in Hotdogopolis i would hear somebody complaining about something, but I don't think they understand they are at a hot place. It's not a five star restaurant. The one thing I would change is that after you order they bring you your food. After you order I think you should just step aside and wait for your food. Maybe get a number system. read more

I took my 2 sons (9 & 3 yo) here for lunch on Saturday. They both had a plain Vienna Beef dog, on a plain bun, with ketchup and mustard. They both loved their dogs, and heartily agreed they were the best hot dogs they've had. I had a Ditka polish sausage, with the South of the border toppings (bacon, cheese, guacamole, and salsa). It was delicious! The sausage had great flavor, and the toppings were all very good. We also ordered fries, which came out well-done, with a reasonable amount of salt. Well our experience was better than expected! All the great reviews and hype about this "hot dog place" got my curiosity up. So I set my sights on Friday night but instead went for lunch with husband and daughter. Well it was probably the best hot dog I have ever had. "The Boston"! (What else)? The onions were perfectly sautéed to caramelized perfection, the bacon was crispy, baked beans and the gooey cheddar? Husband had the "Peking and daughter had the Mexican. We gave the place 6 thumbs up! I guess to sum up our experience, if you ask me what they tasted like? We would say just one word! ........MORE! So we each had a second! Thank you Hotdogopolis! Well I haven't been here in a really long time. Mostly because I'm on the healthy most of the time. Chose to go in here the other day pretty much on it today. I've been here a handful of times before over the years but it's been a while so I figured I'd leave this review First let me say the reason I go here is because I'm from Chicago and I definitely crave a Chicago dog once in a while. This place does do that authentic. The other day I got the Chicago dog and the Maxwell street dog a small order of fries and a Coke. THAT Ran $13. Now I'm not a cheapskate but 13 bucks for a couple hotdogs fries and a drink is ridiculously expensive. Not only that the Maxwell dog was completely charred and burned and not very good at all. Chose not to say anything because it seems like the people that run this place could care less about how they treat people. For example there was a lady in front of me that ordered a Chicago dog and the guy asked her at the register do you want pickle relish onions tomatoes... And she said "it doesn't matter" he then said... Kind of rude "no no it does matter I need to know" definitely pretty rude and I noticed that. I was glad that he didn't talk to me like that because I wouldn't put up with that for two seconds. Needless to say I'm not saying that the food sucks here. But for the price premium it should be perfect and it definitely isn't that. Serving burnt hotdogs and sausages when you do this all day long is unacceptable. Now just in case you think I'm somebody that's just complaining about nothing. I make my living being a food blogger and didn't come in here to do a review or anything but I figured after spending $13 on a couple hotdogs and they weren't even all that I figured I owed them a proper review. Never knew this place was here ...but...now that I do you will know where to find me..At hotdog opolis. I walked in and got in line behind 8 other hungry hotdog lovers! The line moved quickly and I saw yelp has a check in offer (available btwn 4 pm and 7 pm.) I had to stick with my favorite dog The Chicago! I grabbed a beer from the cooler..ordered my dog and sweet potato fries and sat by the window. There is table and high top counter seating...all the tables were full and I didn't mind the high counter. As I sir here waiting for my dog and fries people keep pouring in an after the other. A sign this is great food...or a lotta people love hotdogs like I do. I'm assuming everything is made to order because of the wait for my food. I like fresh cooked hotdogs and do not mind the wait..gives me time to have a second beer...and I needed an ice cold beer or three today...it's been one of "those"days. At least the scenery in the shop is...easy on the eyes...as I look around it seems everyone is waiting on their food. I enjoyed the bitter pills beer and went on to try a Chicago IPA because I was having a Chicago dog..the wobble IPA is a little bitter bit I'm sure it will be great with my dog once I get it. I had to try the fries first and..they are hot and fresh...very good! I love seeing the celery salt on top of my dog...my mouth is watering. The bun is nice and fresh..the dog had a great crisp texture..not crisp as in fried but it snapped when I had my first bite..and the hot peppers are so great..I am really glad I saw the store..they sat they have been here 7 years..really??? And they have a second location on west glades road. I have to say my dog was delicious!!! It was long gone before my sweet potato fries were gone!! Will I be back...you better believe I willl. The whole thing was just silly. From the seedy, unsanitary looks of the place to the absurd so-called 'cheese fries' ... you know, the kind with grainy orange kraft-like powder dumped on them? No? What a cool place!!! They have all different kinds of sausages/hot dogs such as vienna beef, kobe beef, wild boar, pheasant, duck etc. I had fun with my friend trying a bunch of them. Each was more delicious then the last. The place is small, has weird hours, and can get smokey, but what a foodie experience. This place is tucked away in a small plaza, easy to miss. The prices are good, the portions aren't small, but the food was prepared quickly and tasted great. We will be coming back here to try more menu items. I have ordered twice from this restaurant. I have never heard of a hot dog joint that delivers so they get a +1 for that. It took a very long time to reach us at our office on Congress in North Boca Raton, -1 for that. I ordered the Peking dog this time. It was delicious. 1/4 lb, beef, wrapped in duck bacon, (very good, believe it or not) with hoisin sauce, scallions, and pineapple sauce. The bun is the only part that could use some work, poppy seeds on what looked like a bun from Win Dixie. However, this isa genius combination, perfectly blended flavors of salt and sweet. This place is a gem. It's an awesome local joint with a Chicago flair. They even have a map of Chicago, and those from there can add a pin to the map showing where in the city they're from. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile, finally I decided to check it out last weekend. I order the New York hotdog and the cheese fries. The skin on the hotdog was very, thick not what you would normally expect. There was way to much kraut and NY onion sauce, just messy. I had 2 bites and threw the rest away. The cheese fries were very greasy, not cheesy but greasy. You would better off at Checkers down the street. Was in the mood hot dogs so I decided to hop on Yelp and find a place. Hotdog-Opolis had a decent rating and the menu seemed interesting so my wife and I gave it shot. We were unimpressed. The place was pretty dirty. We sat at one table and had to move because it was filthy. We sat down at another table and our hands stuck to it because it was covered in soda (at least we hope it was). We should have ran out the door but we decided to at least try the food. Both of our hot dogs tasted like something you would find in a gas station. The menu is loaded with different choices for toppings (beans, hummus, pineapples, egg, tamale, etc.) and for those that like game meat, there is tons of choices for you to indulge in as well! I am originally from Chicago and did not enjoy my hot dog here. I ordered the Vienna beef Chicago dog and thought that the bun was good with the authenticity of the poppy seeds but the hot dog did not appear to be steamed cause it did not pop, in fact it was sort of rubbery.
