Whenever my husband and I come to Monterey, we stay at Hotel Abrego. We've stayed here three times, and I absolutely love this property. Rooms are extremely comfortable and clean. Great beds and pillows! I loved the fact that our room had a fireplace. The lobby is lovely, and complimentary wine is served during happy hour. It's nice to sip a glass in front of their fireplace, or outside on their patio by the fire pit. A hot breakfast, very well made, is a great element of Hotel Abrego. The hotel also has its own restaurant for dinner. I've not eaten there, but it looks great! The heated pool and hot tub are fabulous! I loved being able to have an early morning swim and a night soak. The fitness center is also a great perk. It has everything you need for a solid workout. Grounds are clean and well kept. Location is central or downtown Monterey. There's a few walkable restaurants across the street (pizza, Chinese, Thai, and coffee shop for breakfast and lunch). It's also only five minutes from Heirloom Pizza, the best pizza place I've ever been to, in Monterey or anywhere else. Hotel employees understand what hospitality is all about. I want to thank Marquis (manager) and Hailey (front desk) for their superb service during our stay. Overall, Hotel Abrego is the place to stay when in Monterey. You'll feel at home, cared for, comfortable, and completely relaxed.

Hotel Abrego is an acceptable accommodation but there are definitely some areas for improvement here. When it comes to hotels, the three areas I prioritize most are cleanliness, comfort, and safety. In addition to overall service and price/value of course. After reading the reviews, I requested a room on the top floor in the main building with the elevator and really appreciated that they called me to follow up in advance of my stay to tell me they could honor this request and would also honor my request of a microwave in the room. When I arrived, the check in process was quick and the room was ready even though I arrived almost an hour ahead of check in. The microwave was not in the room but when I let the man at the desk know, who I believe was the manager, he immediately contacted someone to bring up a microwave to my room and they arrived within about half an hour. I did appreciate that they made this accommodation for me. - I felt very safe in the hotel itself and coming/going from the parking lot in the evening. - While the bed was a too firm for my personal preference, the pillows were nice and I still was able to fall asleep without any difficulty. I did not wake up sore so solid points there. Cleanliness/General maintenance I had a few issues with...there was a small stain on the flat sheet in a pretty noticeable spot. While it was clearly an old stain and the linens appeared clean - it should never have made it to that bed. There was also a large dark hair on the shampoo bottle in my shower and I noticed it immediately so I do not know how it was overlooked - hair is one of my biggest icks. My other issue was with the TV and remote. I first picked up the remote and the back fell off of it. A simple piece of tape could have fixed this but the remote itself also seemed a bit unhygienic and really needs a replacement as well as the TV itself. I had planned on staying in to watch the world series and was very disappointed that the channel as well as several other channels basically had no service. I let the manager know and he did refund me the $20 amenities fee, but I would have rather paid the $20 and been able to watch the world series on the TV instead of finding a streaming feed on facebook and watching from my phone. The morning breakfast was also quite disappointing unfortunately. I was down there fairly early but the foods which should be warm were not warm and there was no microwave in the breakfast room to warm anything up. The offerings were also quite basic and limited compared to other hotels I have stayed at - less expensive hotels for that matter. I had seen in a previous review that there were overnight oats and chia pudding with berries and was very excited for this only to find nothing buy yoplait yogurt in the fridge :( I know I should not have assumed those items would be there still but it wad honestly the worst hotel breakfast I have ever had. The quality and variety was just not good. The only thing that was decent was the breakfast burrito, which I took with me to go and heated up when I got back home later that day. I think that Hotel Abrego has a lot of potential but fell short in areas that could easily be improved. The hotel itself feel dated and in need of an upgrade. I paid notably more at Hotel Abrego than the other two hotels I stayed at in Pleasant Hill and Moss Landing and while I recognize the area is a reflection of the price, it was definitely disappointing when I thought I was going to be treating myself to a nicer hotel. I am glad I only stayed one night. I usually like to lounge around and take my time in the morning before checking out but honestly felt no desire to do so here and left as soon as I could get myself ready and out the door. It is fine for an overnight stay and does the job but I would for other options next time:

Although the hotel is officially rated as a three-star property, it definitely deserves a four-star rating. The facility is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, and the staff truly goes above and beyond. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding - with a variety of options such as porridge, omelette, burrito, cereals, juices, milk, baguettes with Philadelphia cheese, yogurts, and a selection of fruits, which my children absolutely loved. Our room was very spacious with comfortable beds and pillows, and we appreciated the free parking available on site. Due to an unforeseen situation--my husband falling ill--we had to check out one day earlier. The kind lady at the front desk assisted us with canceling the second night's booking and was extremely accommodating. I would highly recommend this hotel for its excellent service, cleanliness, and overall value.

Amazing hospitality and Excellent customer service by the Manager Jennifer and the Bar tender Ernie. This hotel is very clean and a mile from cannery row.perfect location 2 miles from cannery row A little hotel gem in the heart of monterey. it is our first time here in Hotel Abrego and We're so impressed with it's cleanliness and excellent service received from the staff. Check in was a breeze and We Were welcomed by the Manager named Jennifer and informed us with all the hotel's amenities to enjoy during our stay. We have complimentary glass of wine as well. The rooms we stayed is super clean with a beautiful patio overlooking the pool and hot tub area and we got the premier room with fire place so it feels so cozy even more. The Hotel have their own mini bar and resto named BISTRO ABREGO that offer small plates bites, pasta,steak,skewers,wines,beers and more. The Bartender & Server named ERNIE was amazing! He has a 100% customer service traits,as He is knowledgeable about the wines, menu/food selections plus He gives you service with a smile. We really enjoyed our stay here in Hotel Abrego and We will definitely go back again.

We loved this hotel as we stayed in their king room with the fireplace. We stayed in one of the rooms that was inside the hotel as there are rooms outside of the main hotel. The room had plenty of space and we had our own private balcony which was nice. The sofa was nice which also had a bed but no sheets. It was nice that the TV could be rotated to where ever you are. Breakfast was one of the best in my opinion where they had different options such as huevos rancheros, burritos, eggs, potatoes, overnight oats, yogurt parfaits, bagels, and fresh juices. They have a large dining room which is nice. They also offer wine happy hour. We did not dine in their restaurant but wish we would have. They also have plenty of parking and what is nice is that they charge a fee but it includes free parking and breakfast. They note it on their website. The reason I did not give them 5 stars is because when we stayed it was raining and due to it the hotel was facing plumbing issues which did not let you shower, use the bathroom, or wash your hands.

Last minute booking. On our way to Monterey for a quick getaway didn't expect to stay a night but we packed light just incase we were staying over night. With two littles and our ETA was almost 4pm we decided to just stay the night. While still on the road I made a quick search and found this Hotel to be the closest thing we were looking for amenities wise. It wasn't cheap but it was definitely a cheaper option compared to others around for a last minute booking and it looked nice with good reviews. I called the front desk after booking to confirm they received our reservations. He was nice but spoke so fast, low and he seems like he was in a hurry. I booked directly on their website (it was cheaper than book on a 3rd party site). One room Deluxe 2 queen bed. Free parking, free breakfast, WiFi, a/c, Tv, free breakfast, Noon check out. They also had other nice amenities such as gym, pool/hot tub, guest laundry, a bistro and also a glass of wine during their happy hour (included with the amenity fee). The hotel room was fairly clean, few dirty stains on the wall, carpet could use a shampoo and the a/c could use alittle dusting. The bed were not the most comfortable is was springy and lopsided. The pillows were too soft I need to stack 2 on top to get some kind of support. There was no microwave. The breakfast was decent. Love that this hotel really close the Aquarium/ Pier. Overall a solid 3.5. Would stay again if we're in the area and the price is right.

What an excellent place to stay! The staff is super friendly and very helpful. The fireplace in our room was a great addition. This is the first time that I've found an awesome shower! I wish we could have stayed longer than one night. Next time!

Friendly customer service, clean and comfortable rooms and a great complimentary breakfast and evening wine service made my stay at Hotel Abrego stand out from other hotels in the area. I booked a two queen room for one night. We were promptly greeted upon arrival and informed about all amenities, as well as the breakfast and nightly wine that is offered in the lounge. Only the main building has an elevator. We were placed in another building so we did have to walk up stairs to our 2nd floor room. It wasn't a big deal to us but if you have a lot of luggage, maybe try to request a room in the main building. The rooms themselves are very clean and comfortable. There was a smaller tv and a fireplace. The fireplace was a little tricky to work and we didn't quite figure it out during our stay. The bathroom was quite spacious and there was also another sink located outside the bathroom for use as well. The property does have a pool and hot tub but the hot tub was out of service when we were there. Pool towels were available for use. I will say the breakfast was a great spread with breakfast sandwiches, eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, bagels, waffles, French toast, oatmeal and chia seed pudding. There is also a lounge area where you can purchase dinner and a full bar. Overall I was impressed with this property and I would for sure return.

I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel that was clean, comfortable, and had an up to date/modern appearance. Hotel Abrego met my expectations as the bed was comfortable and the bedding was clean and smelled freshly laundered. The bathroom was also clean and overall the room decor was modern. Upon check in, the front desk staff member was friendly and took the time to explain some basics and answer any questions. The only negatives I noticed were some fingerprints on the windows, cosmetic damage to the headboard, and the room upstairs had a squeaky floor and bed. However this would not stop me from booking this hotel again because overall, my time here was very comfortable and relaxing. read more

This is a great little spot close to everything downtown Monterey. Beds were comfortable, the free breakfast was decent, and the amenities were a nice touch. The reason I am knocking a star off is because there is an underlying smell to this place. I cannot put my finger on it is almost like dust meets mold. I did not smell it while in the rooms but, in the common areas, it was noticable. Regardless, I would recommend this place to anyone. It shouldn't break the bank like other Monterey hotels and, for the price, you are not going to find a nicer place to stay in Monterey. Other places look like they haven't been touched since the 70s and have a prison-esque feel to them. Not this place. Renovations and upkeep are obvious in this place. read more

Stayed here before and enjoyed it but they make it difficult to come back. Don't try making any special accommodations because they won't honor it. Tried booking a room that was available only for them to tell me it was sold out and couldn't be booked. Confusing and infuriating. The manager Jennifer called me back but offered no resolution to my request and couldn't wait to get off the phone with me read more

Nice little hotel in Monterey. Rooms are large, many with fireplace and balcony. Ample parking., which is always a plus. Bed is very comfortable and cozy. Location, location, location! Perfectly placed a very short distance from old fisherman's wharf. Nice strip mall across the street with Mountain Mikes pizza, a place for Thai and Wild Plum Cafe (which is awesome). Bathroom is large and shower feels luxurious. I like that they moved the sink outside of commode and shower so getting ready could happen simultaneously. Rooms have a small frig and plugs galore so lots of opportunities for charging devices. A couple of things they could have done better....... hot tub closed due to COVID. I get it. Pool open but not heated at present (specific verbiage used by staff). Why not? For what we paid per night, pool should be heated and the little gas fire pit in pool area should have been turned on for guests as well. No bottled water offered in rooms. Because they have Keurig in rooms they should also have bottled water in rooms. A lot of people are not comfortable with tap water. Be sure to bring your own due to this fact. Floor to floor walls are thin. We wondered if there was a basketball game going on upstairs the first night. Would certainly come back due to location alone. Hope to be able to enjoy the pool area as next time as it's nicely appointed. read more

This was a pleasant surprise. Such a lovely hotel. Clean, courteous and professional staff and close proximity to attractions yet in a quiet, safe area of town. Having worked for the Four Seasons Resort and Club Corporation (5 star Luxury Hotel Chain) for years - I am very particular when it comes to hotels. Hotel Abrego was as good as a 5 star with a much more modest price. Thank you to all staff members who made our stay so wonderful. Each and every employee was so polite from start to finish (making the reservation over the phone to check out on our last day). We will definitely be back again. read more

We booked this hotel because it seemed nice and near a friend of ours. It's a nice big hotel with a pleaant look inside an out. I enjoyed sitting in the hot tub, while someone else was swimming on the pool. It was so relaxing and I would have liked to have done it again the next morning, but it unfortunately didn't open until 9 AM, which I thought was about an hour late. My only other disappointment was that while there was a coffee machine in our room and coffee in the lobby in the morning, there was no tea, which sems quite strange to me, as it's popular, inexpensive, and an alternative to coffee. All in all, a very good stay. read more

Ahh....staycations are the best! Monterey was the perfect weekend get-away and it's only a 2 hour drive from San Francisco. Hotel Abrego has an inviting environment and a short drive away from Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium and the beaches. Our room featured a king sized bed with Italian linens which made falling asleep (and staying asleep!) quite easy. How convenient that I forgot my iphone charger at home, but no worries! They got it covered with their iPod docking station. My favorite spot in the room was the chaise lounge in front of the gas fireplace: put on a comfy robe and sip on Ventana's cabernet (a local winery) and you've got the formula for a relaxing evening. But you have to ease tension in those muscles first! Take a dip into their hot tub or the year round heated outdoor pool. We stayed here in mid-January and we were the only ones at the pool, it was so peaceful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

The hotel room was really small for the price. I do like that the room had a fireplace and robes. The customer service was amazing and the breakfast was excellent! They had several breakfast options, a small fitness center and a pool. The amenities were nice and the parking is included in the amenities fee. read more

The last weekend of March started out much like the rest of the month, wet. After that, the forecast promised sunny & warm. Spring was finally pushing out old man Winter. It was time to dust off the convertible & make a run for the Central Coast. I scored a great deal on a room at Hotel Abrego from Hotwire's Travel Ticker, so it was time for a day trip to Monterey with an overnight stay. When the girlfriend & I checked in Saturday evening, we were greeted with a welcome surprise. We got a free room upgrade. Sweet. Looking around outside & in our room, Hotel Abrego appears to be a motor lodge that has been recently & rather nicely renovated. There is plenty of free parking on premises. Our room was a wee bit on the small side, but very neatly appointed. Attractive modern fixtures & trim, gas fireplace, big flat-panel TV, comfy bed, roomy bathroom w/ shower/ tub & spotlessly clean throughout, our room was perfect for a quick Monterey getaway. Oh yeah, there's free Wi-Fi. Wireless internet at Hotel Abrego is offered in multiple tiers. Basic Wi-Fi is free & faster bandwidth upgrades are available for a fee. I found the basic Wi-Fi more than fast enough for web surfing. I guess the upgrades are useful to anyone who needs to move seriously big files. There was, however, 1 less-than-perfect moment during our brief stay. Our room was on the ground floor. Late into the night, the occupants of the room above ours began performing loud, bed creaking nocturnal gymnastics. The ceiling muffled some of the sound, but we could clearly follow the tempo of their progress all the way to the finish. Fortunately, the activity didn't last long & afterwards, the room above us was dead silent the rest of the night. Even with the short-lived late night entertainment, Hotel Abrego was excellent accommodations for a pleasant overnight stay in Monterey. Free parking, free room upgrade, free Wi-Fi, a nice clean room, all for a bargain price, it doesn't get much better than that. read more

The staff was very prompt with providing non-allergen pillows, extra room towels, and pool towels. The $20 resort fee includes 2 glasses of wine that were quite good. The free breakfast includes decent vegetarian and vegan options along with probably the best hotel coffee I've had in years, with almond milk option! The staff also gave great local touring and dining suggestions and even stored our leftovers in their fridge overnight. We will definitely stay here again! read more

This is my second time staying at Hotel Abrego and I have to say I was not disappointed! This time I booked through Hotwire's surprise booking and we got Hotel Abrego which I was so stoked! When we checked in they upgraded us to a King size. When there was some mishaps with the room, they switched us to a new room. The hotel is clean, safe, modern with glass showers, and a fireplace. The only downside was our TV remote didn't have a guide button and the bathroom didn't have a vent. They do have microwaves you can ask to use and take up to the room. Also not too packed on weekdays. Close walking distance to the wharf and good food choices near by. Thanks Hotel Abrego for a great stay once again! read more

Eh. It's a nice enough hotel. Our expectations were a bit higher. The main hotel looks lovely but I guess if you book online you get put in the other part of the hotel or more "motel" type room. It was still nice enough but I'm imagining from previous pictures we saw we definitely got a lower quality room even though we didn't pay for a lower quality room. Pros: clean bed. Comfortable. Lots of pillows. Nice big bathroom. Huge nice soaker tub. Good coffee and actual half and half. Fireplace. Spacious. Cons: walls are thin. It was like I was back in my old apartment living. The sink was weird. Huge and flat. Water splashes everywhere. No counter space at all. The bathroom was lit very dark. Not warm but just dark. It was a big open room with hardly any light. The room got very very hot at night. Also, I'm assuming this was a one off weird thing but someone at like 10pm knocked on our door BANGING super loud and nobody was there. Very odd. One last thing. Get a new receptionist. Whoever that guy was, dark hair and very monotone and very very condescending sounding needs a training is hospitality. My husband and I both have worked in hospitality, events, food service and customer service. We both looked at eachother after we were checked in and wondered if the other felt that super weird vibe from that guy. He didn't look at us one time and he was very cold. Later in the evening when we went to the bar we still saw him with his head down and acting strange. The bartender was AMAZING! That guy knows customer service and makes amazing drinks. Have him give the reception a lesson! We would probably stay here again for a quick night but next time we come we would probably pay more for a better room and service. It's just and ok place. Better than a motel 6 but it's definitely not a Hyatt. read more

This was a really nice stay on our long road trip. The staff, amenities, food, and drinks are all great. Nice hot tub and pool area as well, and quiet neighbors. Breakfast was one of the best I have had, as well as the dinner menu being quality. Location is very central to everything, for the price it cannot be beat! read more

The only negative aspects of this hotel are that the room is a bit small and the price is a bit high. Besides that, the hotel is an amazing little slice of paradise! The room was extremely clean, comfortable, and looks newly remodeled. The service was excellent with an attentive staff that was always ready to help us with our inquiries. Not only that, but we got two free drink tickets per night which worked perfectly as night starters before we walked downtown and to Fishermans wharf. Last but not least we, had a delicious free breakfast every morning. Over all this is a 4+. It's a solid hotel that you can trust! read more

Loved Hotel Abrego! My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay! We were upgraded! From a queen size bed to a king size bed with a fireplace!Our room was nice and spacious for 2 people! The room was super clean when we got there. Bathroom was alright. Shower door wouldn't close properly but it was alright. Super nice people in the front and helped us whenever we needed it. Breakfast was also super good! Plain breakfast sandwich and YUMMY potatoes! Definitely such a nice place to stay at! Super close to downtown and parking was not a problem! read more

Ah, the Hotel Abrego... she's a fine MOTEL. There are a few hotel rooms which are accessed from inside the main building with the lobby and restaurant but I can't speak to them since they didn't put my family in the hotel. We were put in one of the motel rooms opening to the parking lot, and farthest away from reception. I can't understand why, even though we checked in early on a weekday and the place seemed deserted. Every time we walked by the main building and could see the hotel rooms with their curtains open, they were empty. Maybe they charge more for those rooms? Maybe booking through Expedia you are defaulted to the motel rooms? Who knows. The motel rooms were nice enough. When was the last time you saw a motel room with a gas fire place? Only you don't need a fireplace when the room was hot and stuffy enough. You'd think they would install ceiling fans if AC isn't available. They did provide a small nonoscillating fan that couldn't reach the front window. No hope for cross ventilation with only a single window adjacent to the door. Then when trying to cool the room with the window open you hear every siren that passes by or the senior citizen unable to find their car without activating their car alarm. The room was clean enough. Though while retrieving an item that rolled beneath the bed, there was an inch of dust and feathers(?!), *cough* The refrigerator was not a refrigerator but a drinkerator. They did have location going for them. It was only a 15-20 minute walk to the Wharf. Pool and hot tub were ok. Service was meh. Not particularly friendly but not rude either. Don't think they really cared who came or went. read more

I checked in here with my co-workers for the weekend. Upon arriving check-in was a little hectic but resolved quickly due to a reservation number. The hotel itself is an older hotel but not far from the beautiful bay. The hotel is very clean and kept up well and the rooms are very comfortable and accommodating. I loved that I had my own fire place in my room. We all were also given two commentary wine glasses with our check in. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. We also ate at the cafe several times and had good service as well as the appetizers and food we ate. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to others. We stayed here for a 3 night stay this week. The hotel is located within walking distance of Fishermans warm, as well as multiple eateries. The staff (Ernie-dining) were very engaging and unfailingly polite. A warm breakfast provided a very quick start to the day, as opposed to searching for alternative options. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Room service was timely. I would have absolutely no hesitation at re-booking at this hotel. My opinion is based on having the good fortune to having travelled extensively. Compliments to both the staff and management!!!!!!!!!! read more

Enjoyed our stay. We reserved a Premier Fireplace King. Room is very spacious, modern and clean. Fireplace was used to heat our room. They also have split unit for air-conditioning. Location is good; walking distance to many places, including the Wharf. Ample free parking. Very slow wif; 2-3 mb download, up to 1 mb upload. read more

This hotel is very nice, the rooms are beautiful and the beds are super comfy with nice down comforters. I really liked the bathroom layout as well, nice big bath tub, perfect for soaking your tired feet. The room also came with a beautiful fire place! Rooms are not that spacious, but perfect for sleeping and getting your relax on. The one thing I didn't like was they offered no elevators to get to the second floor; you had to drag your heavy suit cases up two flights of stairs, which was kind of a bummer but not a deal breaker. They don't offer continental breakfast, but have a small restaurant which offer breakfast and dinner items. The pool was also closed for remodeling at the time of our stay. Kind of pricy for not very many amenities. read more

Okay so I'm writing this on our first night here, so far we are very pleased. Me and my girlfriend usually stay at a more expensive hotel so I kept comparing this one to that but that's unfair because of the price point. We paid $394 for two nights in the premier king room with a fire place. Overall I'd give this place an 7.5/10. Very good place for the price, below I will list the pros and cons. Pros: Very affordable and worth the price A fire place for the premier room, very nice addition Looks and seems very clean A balcony as well with a nice pool view(at least for our room) Very cold AC and decent tv with channel options Very nice restroom Swimming pool is open! Cons: They don't leave any indication that the room was sanitized beforehand upon arrival. Doesn't smell like any disinfectants or Lysol which leads me to assume they just vacuum perhaps and tidy stuff up but during times of COVID I'd really feel a lot better if they sanitized which I'm sure they would let you know if they did in the first place. WIFI IS TRASH. We have a room in the 2300 building on the 3rd floor and let me just say that the wifi is never 3 bars, only 1-2 bars and sometimes wouldn't even connect and when it was it was just super slow. Pretty frustrating They only have two luggage carts, so tough luck if there's none left to use It can be a bit challenging to find your room if this is your first time here, me and my girlfriend were walking around for a couple of minutes before finally finding the path to our room Some parts of the hotel have 3 floors and there's no ice machine on every floor so you have to travel down a flight of stairs every time you need ice NO MICROWAVE. This was disappointing HOWEVER upon request they will provide you with a microwave but certain buttons didn't even work on ours Our lamp was out for our balcony and that seemed to be the case for a couple other rooms(we looked for a button or a switch but couldn't find any) Parking isn't too bad but is a little cramped Odd design with sink outside of restroom and then glass doors for shower are designed bad so a lot of water leak out All in all this is a very solid place for the price point, don't think we will be back however as we already have another place in mind for next time. read more

Booked this hotel literally 30 minutes ago. Super cute and clean hotel! The colors, decor, fake fireplace, two sinks(one outside of the bathroom), Keurig coffee machine, mini fridge, robes to use in the closet, comfy bed...everything was just wonderful! Was able to get our room an hour early. It is a Monday, so that's probably why we got our room early. The only cons about this room is that it's small. But for my husband and I it was perfect! Romantic even! read more

I was surprised at how nice this place was when we arrived. The photos doesn't do this place justice. One of the great things about this place is that the fridge and A/C were very quiet. I hate those hotels where you finally fall asleep only to be woken up by the loud running A/C unit all night long. Unfortunately though, the walls are paper thin. Our crying newborn had woken up the couple above us at 3am and the couple decided to have sex! We can hear the mattress creaking so loudly above us. It sounded like a porno show going on. Thankfully, it didn't last very long. LOL. read more

If you have kids this is NOT the place to stay. I couldn't find parking at all & called the front desk and they told me there's extra parking in lower levels which OK great. BUTTTTTT didn't realize I'd have to walk across the parking lot & up 3 stories of stairs with a baby & my luggage. No ramps or elevator. The front desk was absolutely no help & not sympathetic at all. Will not be back. read more

The room was perfect four my family of four! It isnt a walking distance tonthe aquarium but it was only a 5.minute drive.The rooms were clean and comfy. They had a heated pool and jacuzzi. What was a plus for me was the morning breakfast. They had burritos, wafflss, yogurt, oatmeal, juices, coffee. Pretty good for what we paid for. Also they offer complementary wine in the afternoons. What I liked about my stay here. Excellent location and walking distance to just about everything. Big parking lot. Small but clean rooms. Affordable. Good water pressure in shower. What I didn't care for was no elevator. Room was next to stairwell and on the first floor so foot traffic and people above were noisy. The bed was too hard. All in all though the pros out weighed the cons so I will stay here again. Staff is courteous and helpful. read more

This hotel is mediocre compared to other hotels I've been to. I booked last minute for Mother's Day and was a little disappointed. Pros: 1. They put thought into the interior décor because it isn't just monotone. 2. The fireplace is really nice but it gets stuffy in the room of you leave it on for some time. Cons: 1. I kept missing the entrance. It looks like there's a BMW dealership at the corner so you overlook the entrance. The entrance isn't really clear so I kept driving past it. 2. Upon walking into the room, I saw two big body pillows. I looked closely and there were so many strands of blond hair. I have black hair. At least run it with a long roller before your best guest arrives. 3. I turned on the water to warm but once in a while, the water would get really cold. Maybe if someone in the next hotel room is using it, the water gets cold? 4. There is no vent in the bathroom so if someone goes #2 and you're going in afterwards, it's your loss. The second light switch on the room only turns on the light above the shower. The door slams shut so there's never ventilation. 5. The shower curtain might as well not be there. It's like showering without a shower curtain because it's so far away. No matter how small my movements were, water still splattered everywhere. 6. Housekeeping knocked on the door like a woodpecker for half a minute straight. I was in the shower and heard it loudly. I also heard my mom answering them through the door but they continued knocking so loudly. If I can hear it in the shower, they should hear it too. Luckily I was awake but if someone knocked extremely hard and fast when I was still in sweet slumber, I'd be angry. read more

The family loved this place. Very clean and their customer service was on point. We even got the "have to's" from the front desk and coupons. When you first get in the room, you hesitate cause there is no AC. Living in Arizona, you are loco if you stayed in a place without air conditioning. But the weather was awesome that it didn't matter. There was a Vornado fan and we just left the window open. Surprisingly, this worked for my warm bodied family. I don't know if this place was just super quiet or the curtains were sound proof but we didn't hear any foot traffic or car traffic even though we were next to the street. Ice machine was about 50 feet away so we always had a cold drink. This place is in the right spot as everything we wanted to do was in walking distance. When we wanted to check out the Aquarium, it was a short walk to the free Trolley. The wharf was about a 10 min walk for shops and seafood restaurants, and you walk right through downtown where there are cheaper offerings. The only thing was that the parking lot was small but we had no trouble finding parking. We are going back definitely. read more

Ok listen up people.. this hotel.. well for the price I paid.. maybe because it was the day of.. was just a tad but disappointing. We will save the best for last so, I walked into the hotel's lobby which was modernly designed and clean. The front desk receptionist was friendly and welcoming. I. Love. Friendly. Ok so upon check-in she reminded me about a complimentary glass of wine that my boyfriend and I would get as part of the stay. I had a big smile on my face after hearing that. I then proceeded to my room which was on the underground street level. It didn't look too fancy anymore after leaving the front of the hotel but I hoped for the best as I walked into what would be my only shelter for the night. Haha. Anyways, I opened the door to my room, and there it was.. a bed.. as I got closer to the bed, I noticed some dings and scratches on the headboard. I had just paid over $400 for the night so I wasn't happy at all to see that. It looked like a rat had chewed up the board which I'm sure wasn't the case, just sounds funny. I then felt the urge to use the bathroom and let me tell you something.. I'm surprise I was able to wash my hands under the running water. There's about 2 inches of space between the faucet and the draining hole. I didn't get it.. the engineering of it was so badly thought out, I assumed the engineer must've been under the influence when he planned to build the sink that way. Back to the bed, it was very cozy and comfy. I slept like a little baby. Anywho, my complaints will end there. Now let's rewind back to that complimentary glass of wine.. I had the option to choose between Rose or a Red Pinot Noir wine. I went with a glass of red and holy guacamole.. I don't remember much of what I conversed with my significant other about. Seriously.. that was some potent stuff but I got a great time out of it. So to conclude this review, I give this place an 8/10. Bye! read more

My opinion, anything less than $200 in Monterey is a deal. -Ideal location. Close to the cannery, aquarium, and wharf. Walking distance to Trader Joe's, shopping, restaurants, and cafes. The lobby has an older, vintage feel to it, which gave it some charm. Unfortunately, the check in experience wasn't the best. The front desk receptionist wasn't very friendly or welcoming, so it didn't exactly start our trip on a positive note. Our room with two queen beds was pretty standard, but it was clean and had a beautiful view overlooking the water, which was definitely the highlight. The service throughout our stay was pretty disappointing. I called the front desk to ask for extra bath towels, and after waiting 30 minutes with nothing delivered, I had to call again. They finally arrived another 20 minutes later, which seemed way too long for such a simple request. The shower was also confusing because the hot and cold labels were reversed, and the water pressure was extremely weak. Neither of those things ruined the trip, but they definitely made the stay less enjoyable. We also ordered room service around 7:30pm. Jerry, who took our order, was very friendly and told us it would take about 45 minutes. An hour later there was still no food, so I called back around 8:45. Jerry apologized, checked on the order, and said it would be another 10 minutes before offering to personally bring it up. I appreciated his effort, but waiting well over an hour for room service was frustrating. To make matters worse, they already charge a service fee and then tack on an additional 20% service charge. The food wasn't worth the wait either. The ceviche lacked flavor and the portion was tiny, the ahi tuna wraps were just okay and didn't taste very fresh, and the Wagyu burger was dry and underwhelming. The fries were probably the best thing we ordered. Overall, I don't see myself staying here again, and next time I'd rather book the InterContinental instead.

One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

While this hotel is not fancy, it is clean, comfortable, and has FREE PARKING. As long as you have no mobility issues or can guarantee an accessible room, this hotel is a great option for getting around Monterey and Cannery Row.

The huge totally fenced yard was perfect for the dogs and playing ping pong and other outdoor games. We're all friends through pickleball and hiking which we enjoyed one or both on our 3 night stay. We did most of our eating at the unit by assigning meals for each night... great food!!! The kitchen is well stocked making do with what we found. There's a nice big table in the dining room we could all fit around and the living room is spacious with an enormous couch. The staff is friendly and accommodating! For 8 women and 3 dogs I don't think we caused any trouble or were too loud... just the sound of laughter and fun! Hopefully we can make it a yearly event!!!

It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Because of how old the buildings are, there is no A/C, which is typically fine, but we happened to be there on one of the warmest days of the year. Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.

I had an extremely distressing experience at Hotel Abregro during my stay in February and feel compelled to share it to warn others. One evening, after returning from dinner, I went to the hotel bar for two drinks. Shortly after, I experienced sudden and extreme dizziness, struggling to maintain my balance as I walked to my room. Two hotel staff members, one of whom was not wearing a uniform and served my drinks, were watching me intently. Once in my room, my symptoms worsened--I became nauseous, experienced irregular heartbeats, and felt unusually cold and disoriented. What happened next was even more unsettling. The hotel phone rang multiple times that night. When I finally answered at 9:00 PM, it was the same staff member from the bar asking if I had enjoyed my bath--something I had never mentioned to him. He then repeatedly offered to bring a drink to my room. At 1:00 AM, I woke with severe heart palpitations, which continued for hours. The next morning, still feeling unwell, I reported the incident to my manager, checked out five days early, and later sought medical attention. The doctor and nurse at the hospital informed me that my symptoms were consistent with being spiked with GHB and immediately involved the police, who took a formal report. While I cannot provide definitive proof of what happened, the series of events and my physical symptoms raise serious concerns. More troubling was the hotel's response--or lack thereof. No one questioned why I was leaving early, and without me asking, I was immediately refunded for my remaining five nights. It felt as though they knew exactly why I was checking out. I anticipate the hotel may deny any wrongdoing, but my goal is not to debate with them--it's to warn others. Solo travelers, particularly women, should exercise extreme caution here. Regardless of whether my drink was tampered with, no guest should receive repeated calls at night from hotel staff attempting to bring drinks to their room. I sincerely hope the hotel takes action to ensure the safety of future guests. But until then, I strongly advise others to be vigilant. read more

A picturesque little boutique hotel off the beaten bath in Monterey! This was such a great find! I discovered them on Orbitz and am so happy that I did. My boyfriend and I took our first trip to Monterey and were very pleased to find that all the images matched up in person. The hotel has a spacious parking lot (we never had an issue), and the staff was really, really accommodating. Shortly after checking into our room we discovered that we had some thunderous, hyperactive kids above us. One visit to the office and they had us in a new, upstairs room in the main building in the blink of an eye with no questions and no charges. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming, greeting you as you come and go. The drinks at the bar were phenomenal and I really enjoyed the ambiance. As for the room, my only wish was that all rooms came standard with a bath tub..but I'm not marking down for that at all. We LOVED our room! The king size bed was comfortable, the tv was crystal clear and had plenty of channels. The bathrooms have slightly low ventilation so they steam up pretty quickly but its worth it because the showers are gorgeous and very roomy! If you are looking for a great home base off the hubbub of cannery row but close to everything, I highly recommend Hotel Abrego; we will definitely be back! read more

My stay at Hotel Abrego in Monterey was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived until the day we checked out, every staff member we encountered was gracious, thoughtful, professional, and genuinely kind. It's rare to find a hotel where every employee goes out of their way to make guests feel welcome, but that was exactly our experience. The staff consistently greeted us with warm smiles and were always ready to help with any questions or requests. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellent customer service truly made out stay memorable. The rooms were clean, comfortable. The pool and big hot tub was awesome. We always felt relaxed and at home. Another huge plus was the convenient parking and free on top of that! Most place you pay $40 plus dollars a day! We also appreciated the complimentary continental breakfast each morning. It was fresh, convenient, and the perfect way to start our day before heading out or staying in. Hotel Abrego exceeded our expectations in every way. The beautiful accommodations, excellent amenities, and especially 100% the incredible staff made this one of the best hotel experiences we've had in a long time. W highly recommend to anyone visiting Monteray and look forward to staying there again in (hopefully) the near future. read more

Very nice, walkable location to downtown Monterey, conference center and the wharfs. You'd want to drive to Cannery Row, most likely, if you head to that terrible stretch. It's a little far for a walk. We found our room to be very clean and well-appointed. Cleaning staff very helpful and nice. We had a king w a fireplace, on the top floor of the second building. We had heard from other reviews that noise was a problem, but it was dead silent on all three nights we were there, a Thurs-Sun stay. Didn't need the earplugs we brought, not even close. Pool was lovely, staff were there checking towels and cleanliness about every 30 minutes (literally). I watched them come and go from our little deck. A family-friendly scene at the pool. But wasn't overrun w kids when we were there, by any means. Low-key. Trader Joe's is about 3 minutes away on foot, so with the little fridge we were able to stock up and not eat out every meal, which we prefer. No microwave. Loved our stay here! So close to everything you need to see or do. It's located in Old town Monterey, so lots of good restaurants and shopping close by without all the madness of Cannery Row. We had a great room for the family, corner room overlooking the pool. Huge room, plenty of space for my family of 4. Comfortable beds, great shower, easy parking and a fireplace (which we didn't use, but would have if it was winter) Staff were great and very friendly too. Kids loved the pool and hot tub and we used them on both days we were there. Only small downside was because we were overlooking the pool and the hot tub, it can be a little loud in the evening when the adults come out to swim. There were some rowdy people in the hot tub well past 10pm(when the pool closes) that kept my kids awake on the first night, but a quick call down, they dispersed and went to bed without a fight(they apparently weren't aware of the 10pm curfew...) it wasn't enough of spoil our trip or stay. The wife and I went away for the weekend and booked a deal at Hotel Abrego through Expedia. The stay went smoothly. I'm giving 2 stars because I see room for lots of improvement. Park is TIGHT and limited. The rooms aren't as nice as they look in the photos online, although the fireplace and flat panel TV are nice. The walls and floors are thin and you can hear lots of noise from other rooms--footsteps, snoring, kids running around, etc. The staff was nice and professional. The location is good...minutes from the wharf, the aquarium and cannery row. I don't think I'd stay here again--I'd rather pay a little more and get lots more for my money. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout our visit.
