I have stayed there several times over the last five years. More of a residential neighborhood location away from the tourist crown. One block fram the subway station with a short ride to Times Square or other nearby locations. Four blocks from Central Park. Fairway Market accross the street. Nice family restaurant located next door on the corner with good food and reasonable prices. Will stay there again. read more

Stayed here last April and loved it so much am returning in August :) 20-30 minute walk to Times Sq. (lots to see on the way) and the subway a couple of blocks. Fairway market opposite, with Trader Joe's, Pinkberry, McDonald's, and GiGi Cafe a stones throw. Reception aren't the most friendly, just professional, the doormen however very personable. Stayed in a 1 bedroom suite at a reasonable price, would recommend in a heartbeat! No faults. read more

Stayed here for a weekend and enjoyed it. This hotel is located near the subway, and is in a nice quiet area that has plenty of shops and restaurants in the area. The staff is very friendly here and the rooms are wonderful. We stayed in a two bedroom suite, and the room had a homey feel that made you feel confortable as soon as you walked in. They have a bar connected to the hotel, but we never went there. Next time I come to New York, I will be sure to stay here, and you should too. read more

Thank you Hotel Beacon I asked to change rooms and they moved us to a beautiful room with an amazing view! Here's my back story-I spent several hours online searching for a decent hotel. My daughter, son and I needed to be close to Fordham's Lincoln Center campus for a college tour. It's a fifteen minute walk to Lincoln Center and a little farther to Times Square. The location is perfect! Nice grocery store across the street, Starbucks on the corner and a little drugstore close too. Beacon Theatre is attached to the hotel and the band Culture Club performed last night. The hotel is older and charming however we needed to change rooms because our first room smelled moldy. It looked spotless clean but the smell was strong enough that I asked to change rooms. They were very accommodating and quickly sent a man up with new room keys. This room has two double beds, great view and no mold issues. Stay here for your visit. You'll be glad that you did and be sure to speak up if things don't meet your expectations. We spent $291.00 for two double beds. This is a competitive price for NYC. One more thing, Central Park is three blocks to the East. We spent several hours walking through the park going south toward Times Square. I highly recommend doing this if the weather is good. For me, Central Park is quintessential NYC. It's so beautiful with great green space, cool architecture, gardens a small castle-people everywhere. So fun! read more

Microwave, Fridge, Dishes, Cutlery, Pots, Toaster, Stove in the room + Market right across the street meant I could get my own breakfast saving time in the morning ... sweet. Room #1801 was nicely setup. Corner of 18th floor so great views in two directions. Only downside was some annoying noise. Not sure if it was the wind since I was up so high and the room was exposed on two sides, or a generator or gas pipes hard to identify. Nice good value eateries nearby. read more

I have dealt with rude service in the past (who hasn't), but the front desk service at this hotel was the worst. Honestly, I felt like canceling the reservation and going somewhere else. The young gentleman at the the front desk, who unfortunately seemed to be in charge at the time, could not find the reservation, and when he did he told me that I had given him the wrong info (my last name!). He proceeded to wanting to give me a lecture, which I kindly declined, and that is when he cut me off and made another rude comment. So-the hotel's structure seems nice but BEWARE....another puzzling thing....tripadvisor has them with a very high rating.... Not sure how come. If you don't care about customer service, then this may be just fine for you. read more

This is a very nice hotel located next to the Beacon Theatre and across the street from Fairway market, but I just feel it is a bit overpriced for the space and amenities. I think they get away with it due to its location because there are nicer hotels with larger rooms for less that are just one to three blocks away. read more

I wish I would have checked Yelp reviews before booking this hotel. I booked it based on positive reviews from Tripadvisor. It was probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We ended up in a room designed to accommodate a handicapped person and could barely fit in the shower because of the special equipment. The blankets and pillows were thin and uncomfortable. The sofa was covered in stains and there was only 1 nightstand in the bedroom. The walls were so thin I could here every word coming from the room next door and across the hall. I didn't realize this before I booked but people must live at the hotel and there were people coming and going all day with dogs and groceries. It was not a comfortable stay at all and the staff didn't seem to care at all. read more

The double suite was perfect . Tons of space, nice kitchen, and clean. The staff was accommodating and polite. We really enjoyed our stay.

This is an excellent for out-of-towners. It is in a quiet area(there was very little street noise in the rooms). It was a short walk to two different subway stations. From those stations it is very easy to travel downtown to places of interest like Times Square, One World Trade Center, and many other points of interest. If you're a little nervous about trying the subway, it's super-simple. The staff is very friendly and helpful with unloading luggage. They are also very accommodating. There is easy parking literally around the corner, reasonable for in city. The Cafe Viand is adjacent to the hotel and is a great place to get breakfast. There is a good sized grocery store right across the street. I would highly recommend this hotel. read more

The Beacon hotel offers great rates and a great location in the upper west side. Not the best rooms but it gets the job done. The Wifi is astronomical here so if you need Wifi you are better off getting a 3G access card and paying it for a month. The Wifi is $9 bucks per 24 hours. read more

Cockroaches were everywhere but before I get to it. Tried to leave a review on booking.com where they have super high ratings but I couldn't! I think booking.com is somewhat corrupt. the hotel doesn't help with parking on contrary they send you to the worst parking spot where they try to rip you off by counting Monday night by Thursday morning as four days, and you park yourself. We used different a more "professional" parking garage. The beacon hotel is old and outdated in common areas . Rooms are large and seem clean but we saw a cockroach in the hall within a first hour of our visit, then another huge one in the morning in our room. They gave us a better room, only I walked into a giant cockroach sitting in the sink that escaped down the drain when I turned on the light. I am disappointed and disgusted, can't relax now. FYI it is not my first time in NYC . I visit all the time and stay for weeks during summer and xmas. Have been to many hotels over the years, this is the worst . I recommend the Broadway Plaza, Wyndham in Chelsea , Hayatt on 36 street between midtown, the Paul hotel on 29 and Broadway, Hampton inn on 35th midtown... those are nice hotels . read more

Pros -The staff at this hotel is incredibly friendly. -The WIFI was free (which is always nice) and non password protected. It was easy to log on and the connection was pretty solid. -Beacon Bar next door as well as cafe on the other side, both awesome. -Beacon Bar staff very helpful and went above and beyond for me. Cons -No room service. -Not easy to get to-go food from their bar next door. -Bars Caesar salad had anchovies in it and they did not warn me. (typically waiters wil warn about this since most people do not like this in their caesar salad). -Did not provide a list of places close by that hotel stayers can order delivery from upon check-in. -No water or snacks available for charge in room. Instead, they have a vending machine on the 5th floor, that includes soda, water and some snacks. It's in the laundry room. Cost of water is $1.50. Dollar bills can be tough going into machine, so bring a few and straighten them as best you can. -Room blow dryer in the bathroom kept shutting off. Had to purchase a blow dryer from the drug store down the street so I could dry my hair. -Thermostat would not turn on. It kept saying to put my key in by the door, but my door key was in so not sure what else I could have done. -Faulty lamp outlet. I had a fan plugged into it and it kept going off and on when the plug was fully plugged into the outlet. -The iPod/iPhone charging base in the room was for an iPhone 4 or earlier model, so if you have anything after the iphone 5, bring your own charger. (Android peeps, you're totally out of luck). -I called the front desk and it took about 45 minutes or so for a maintenance person to come up. -I was woken up a few times during the night hearing foot steps from the floor above me. I'm not really sure if this is a pro or a con, but there was a stove in my room w/ a cooktop. This is more of a con for me, but others might find this useful. read more

We stayed here for almost a week. The exorbitant price is a total waste of money. WiFi was terrible. Climate control was a problem. The bell captain was just not forthcoming in offering to help with luggage. We called the front desk for help with luggage. No one came. Never going to stay here again. Location was great and convenient to everything , there weren't a lot of food options right outside but definitely within a few minutes walk . The room itself I would give 4/5 only issue was old plumbing ,so water in the shower was slow to drain but it's NYC old plumbing is everywhere. We stayed here for a week and the location & Hotel are excellent. Each room has a small galley style kitchen, fridge etc great for breakfast before heading out for a NYC day. Rooms are comfortable & large windows to enjoy the view. Staff all very helpful & just a short 2 block walk to the 72nd St subway. Lots of lines go through here. I stayed at the Beacon last weekend while in town for a little business and fun. The decor is chic and modern- love the minty green color palette- the bed was super comfortable and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The price is fabulous for the city in comparison with some of the other places I've been. It's conveniently located just a few blocks from the 72nd st subway stop making it super easy to get downtown, but without being in the midst of all the touristy craziness. I had a room with a kitchenette which is so great when spending a few days to keep from eating out every single meal. I will definitely be back!!! The only thing I'd change is the Wi-Fi to be included in the price of your room! $10 a day is a little steep. read more

I hesitate to review..I want to keep it a secret!! We had a fabulous weekend here in NYC for Thanksgiving-great location to get to the parade and the blowup the night before. Lots of movie theaters nearby, yummy food places, huge Fairway across the street...but the rooms-wow-we had a one bedroom suite with kitchenette that at one point had 6 of us sitting/fitting VERY comfortably in the main room watching the parade...(it was pretty cold out and we did see an hour of it live!!) Very clean, umbrellas for all of us for the first rainy 24 hours, cheery maids, great Keurig machine. Bathrooms are small, but closets are big-why complain?? read more

I stayed at the Beacon hotel in November, 2009 in order to see Mike Epps perform next door at the Beacon theater. The hotel renovation was awesome. The designer's taste was really upscale and modern. I enjoyed the hotel decor and service. I called the desk re: the heater cutting off problem. There wasn't much that could be done. The heater had not been upgraded. I planned to spend my entire vacation there, but the itching caused by the lack of a humidifier inherent in the heating unit or in the room forced me to move to the hotel that I've spent 14 years at on 8th Ave. read more

We're having an adventure. We've sighted a drunken oldie in a trench coat coming from room 1211 and an aging geisha with madonna mascara and a fur cap on the elevator (it seems they live here). The wallpaper is peeling from the wall. They gave us a smoking room when we are very much non-smokers. But! Fairway is across the street and we are comforting ourselves with raspberry Pim's and tea. The Hotel Beacon has become my favorite place to stay when I come to New York. I would probably never stay anywhere else but they are often sold out. This is a small hotel out of the way of the Midtown tourist and business frenzy. The laid back feel fits perfectly with the Upper West Side. The Fairway Grocery across the street is handy to stock the room fridge with snacks and the Cafe Viand on the corner does a dependable job with fast Greek-diner style food. The rooms are clean, stylish and generously sized for New York. I really don't understand the other reviews complaining about the staff since I have always found them to be professional and efficient. This hotel is a great value - I've paid twice as much for a lot less in New York. read more

Hotel Beacon is the BEST hotel in NYC for families. Hands down. You will not find a better value. And the best part? You don't have to sacrifice cleanliness, service or spaciousness. We had a 2 bedroom suite with 2 baths, a kitchen and living room and paid less than we would have for many standard NY hotel rooms a quarter of the size. There is a very well appointed guest laundry which is a plus. While there is no room service, the Viand cafe is located next door and has free and quick delivery. The Beacon Bar is in the lobby and is a fun spot for the adults. A special mention to Slava, the front desk manager, for going above and beyond to make our trip a special one. And to our wonderful housekeeper who made our home away from home an oasis every time we returned. This is our third summer staying at the Beacon and we will be back again next year! read more

Another great stay at the Beacon. This is a fantastic upper west side location, close to museums, Central Park, Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle and a ton of restaurants and bars. The 72nd street station is a couple of blocks away. There is a modest lobby with enough seating to read the paper but it is not huge. There is an attached bar which we did not get to try out. The rooms have kitchenettes which would be great for a longer stay. Our room had fantastic views. read more

Have stayed here many times in the past because of great location and because rooms are large and quiet. When I stayed there last week, however, the room was not properly cleaned, carpeting was too old, and bedding left me itchy (not sure if something bit me). Two days prior to our scheduled trip to NY, the apartment, we had rented months earlier via HomeStay, was cancelled. In a panic, we tried various other apartment rental services and felt uncomfortable with the financial arrangements. To the rescue came Hotel Beacon. Of course we had to pay top dollar for our King studio, but we were given the 22nd floor, West view side--just gorgeous and quiet. We always eat breakfast in and often one other meal too, splurging on a late, long lunch. The kitchenette, while tiny worked, due to the takeout supplied by Fairway, Citrella and Zabar's. All close-by. Since we used the Subway for all our travel, the location of the Beacon couldn't have been better. Infact we took the A train both to and from JFK. It was easier and more fun than any cab drive would have been. Our room met my fussy cleanliness standard, the front staff and maid service overall good. The first two mornings we did have maid issues--housekeeping kept insisting that we were checking out, when we had just checked in. Initially the maid would knock and promptly open the door at 8:30 and 8:40 am, both mornings. We finally figured out that we needed to deadbolt the door each night. These are minor qlitches in what turned out to be a wonderful 65th birthday gateaway. We will return, and with better planning perhaps secure a "deal" in the pricing, but for the location it was well worth the extra we paid. read more

I wasn't a guest at the hotel; however, I did attend a meeting hosted by an organization that I'm a member of. Two rooms were secured for our meeting: (1) a dinner and networking area and (2) a lecture area. Both of the spaces were great. It's an accessible location (for me). It was a clean and brightly lit space. And since I was there for a meeting, we didn't experience any technical issue, so that's always a plus. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

What a lovely boutique hotel. There are still some residents who live there too which honestly adds to the charm. Little kitchenettes in the rooms which were clean and well apportioned for NYC. GREAT concierge staff and friendly front desk. By the time we left we felt like family. The only negative is that there's a big slab of marble in front of the bathroom door. It sticks up and you can totally jam your toes in a very sad way. So. Roll a towel up and place near the offending foot danger zone on the marble and all is well. Other than that it's lovely. I was really happy with my experience here! The location is just perfect. The Upper West Side is close to so many things but it's mellower than staying more downtown. Our room was very clean, really large for NYC standards and even had a kitchenette! We had THE MOST INCREDIBLE VIEW! Literally a 180 degree view of the city and central park. I thought the staff was very friendly and nice. My kids are very rowdy and they had a good sense of humor about it. The bellman let the kids ride on the luggage cart and the staff goofed around with then. They don't have room service but there is a Starbucks right downstairs and great restaurants everywhere. I would stay there again for sure! read more
