An ideal place to stay during the pandemic, or anytime you're looking for some peace and quiet. The hotel is small and there's not a lot of common area, so you're not bumping into people everywhere you go. They offer mobile checkin which limits interaction with the front desk, and of course the robots that bring you any little thing you might need. Room service is however still brought by a person. The rooms are quite large and stylish. Lots of storage to tuck your things away. Giant shower, although worth noting that it's a glass box in the center of the room with a curtain if you want privacy. A couple of really nit-picky things: - The water temperature in the shower is puzzle. Took forever to warm up. Went cold part way through. Takes a bit of adjusting as you go. - Handle on the bathroom faucet seems counter intuitive. Every time I pulled, I'd realize it's a push...or maybe it was vice versa. - Mattress slides back on the platform bed, there's a gap between the bed and the wall, and leaves the platform exposed by several inches on both corners. I came around the corner to quickly and ended up with a giant gash in my shin. read more

SUCH A DELIGHT! Came here for a work conference and used a search tool to find the highest rated hotel within walking distance and the reviews did not disappoint! Wonderful service at check-in, had a whole crew helping with valet and getting my bags upstairs and giving me a water. The staff remembered us throughout our stay and regularly checked in to see how our visit was going. Room was gorgeous and so cozy-I was sad I had to go to my conference and couldn't just sleep in all day. We got breakfast with our room and it was delish-no need to leave the hotel. Staff was super sweet with my request for a late check-out due to finding out my conference was going on another hour. Would def recommend and plan to return next year. read more

The hotel has a restaurant but it's not open . They are however delivering bagged meals to your room . Let me just say it wasn't what I expected , the tofu Bahn mi was pre made and refrigerated and served with a packet of mustard . Yuck . Frequent guest at EMC2 (business): After dozens and dozens of stays, I must say that I'm not impressed with the changes to the front desk staff/management (particularly morning front desk) as well as some of the kitchen chefs... disappointing but still will try to continue to support... perhaps it's just a transitional period... keeping fingers crossed in the hopes that it doesn't become a victim of cheap labor and cost-saving strategies (mistakes that will backfire as regular guests, like myself, will be looking elsewhere for the expected hospitable lodging that is no longer offered at EMC2). read more

I'm in love with this hotel. Love hardwood floors in my room, the separate water closet, shower and sink. Love the toiletries and every detail they placed in my room. Even have a weighing scale which is perfect. Two bottled water in the room are complimentary. Their fitness room is also perfect for my daily workout routine. They even have a boxing punching bag which reminds me to bring my boxing gloves next time. The Albert which is downstairs resto is great for dinner and drinks. Last week, my partner and I stayed at the Hotel EMC2. We will not be staying at this hotel again and will warn our friends and family not to stay here either. We came into Chicago for 4 days. We knew it would be an expensive trip, and were worried about parking costs. Prior to booking our stay, we called the Hotel EMC2 to ask about parking. They informed us that we could do valet parking for $65 per day, or if we wanted to save some money, we could do self-parking at the same lot (the Erie-Ontario Self Park) for $43 per day, once the hotel provided a voucher. Saving $22 per day might not seem like a big deal, but that was a huge savings for us. And that was the deciding factor for us to stay at the Hotel EMC2 versus another hotel. In the weeks leading up to our visit, we called the Hotel EMC2 5-6 times to confirm the parking situation had not changed. And each time, the front desk assured us that yes, we could self-park at the Erie-Ontario Self Park lot for $43 per day, and the hotel would provide a voucher to give us the discount. When we arrived at the hotel, a Hotel EMC2 valet parking attendant named Sal was very kind. He pointed out the Erie-Ontario Self Park lot. When he saw that we were confused, he offered to drive with us over to the lot to ensure we went to the correct one. Sal drove with us to the Erie-Ontario Self Park lot, and showed us where to get out parking ticket. We knew that if we left the lot at any time during our visit and came back in, we would be charged for an additional day. So we parked the car with Sal on the day we arrived (12/21) and didn't move the car until we were ready to check-out (12/24). We saw Sal several times during our stay helping other Hotel EMC2 guests. When we checked out, we showed the front desk staff our parking ticket from the Erie-Ontario Self Park lot, but they looked at us like we were crazy. We explained that we called several times in advance to ask about parking at the lot and followed the staff instructions exactly. The check-out staff claimed we didn't park at the correct lot, but we confirmed that the Hotel EMC2 parking attending literally DROVE US TO THE CORRECT LOT HIMSELF and helped us get our ticket. The check-out staff were incredibly condescending. They told us that we parked at the wrong lot, and we should have used an app that no one had mentioned before (during any of the half dozen times we called the hotel in advance nor the parking attendant when we arrived). They gave us a paper QR code and said we could try using it to get a discount, but because "we parked at the wrong lot, it probably wouldn't work." We offered to go try to use the QR code and asked that if it didn't work, could they simply discount our hotel stay bill to honor the parking price they had confirmed over and over and over again on the phone? They said they could ask a manager about it. So we went to get the car and were not surprised to see that the QR code didn't work. We brought the receipt back to the hotel and confirmed that we did not receive a discount and asked again if the hotel could discount our bill to honor the price they promised. They wrote down our contact information and said a manager had just arrived and would call us as soon as they got settled for the day to straighten everything out. Later that day, the manager hadn't called, so we called back. And we've called back every day to try to straight this out. Each time, the front desk puts us on hold or says a manager will call us right back, and we have still not heard from them. I understand that there can be miscommunications amongst a large staff. But to have 8 hotel employees over the course of 6 phone calls and 2 in-person interactions give us the same information, and then to treat us like we were dumb tourists was incredibly rude. And then to promise to have a manager call and then give us the runaround is super patronizing. So it sounds like we will not get our parking money back. And in the meantime, we will let everyone else know to look elsewhere if they want to stay in downtown Chicago. read more

After seeing the pictures and reading reviews, I was super excited to book this hotel as a little splurge for a pre-birthday celebration with my partner. Unfortunately, I feel like this hotel may have backslid a bit since some of these initial reviews. Starting with the good, I will say the design of the hotel was impressive, sleek, and on point. It really nailed the art and science aesthetic with a sort of art deco look and a lot of cool seamless details like the elevators that knew your floor (R, G, and B, get it!), the magnifying glasses over the room numbers, the gramophone, and the weird laboratory shower that I never tried but looked cool. It was very visually pleasing to a nerd who loves that retro-futurist, future as we pictured it mid-century, design. And yes, the room service robots Leo and Cleo did not disappoint. They made adorable sounds and spun circles in delight when you messaged that you were enjoying your stay after they brought items to your door. They would be worth coming back for alone. Unfortunately, due to the fact that our room had a non-functioning Alexa service, it took us quite awhile to figure out how to operate things. Pretty much every service in the room was billed as being operated by Alexa, including the robots. It was actually kind of funny because we had to physically speak to room service to get a robot, and when it arrived we just saw the glowing light under the door a la Poltergeist/Close Encounters From The Third Kind and a message on the TV saying they'd arrived. I guess that part was actually kind of fun and eerie. However, when you are a science-themed boutique hotel that advertises the whole "smart room" thing as an integral part of the experience customers are paying a little more for, it's kind of a huge bummer to be missing out on that---and when we told guest services they didn't offer to switch/fix it, they actually said the Alexa service wasn't functioning in several rooms! That's a huge oversight to me. The hotel also advertised in their menu a complimentary buffet breakfast that they no longer offer, so that was a disappointment as well. Since we were already there we ate at the hotel's Albert restaurant anyway, which I admit was quite pretty with its real old library books and lab equipment, but the food left a little to be desired. My avocado omelet was basically an egg folded over with avocado on top, and they seemed to want to flavor everything with spicy tomato sauce. The atmosphere was thus brought down a little bit by sub-par food and slow service. Overall I'd consider staying at the EMC2 again with tempered expectations. The design and aesthetics are gorgeous, but I felt it was a bit lacking at times with the substance to keep up with that style. Especially knowing their clientele is probably paying a little more $$ for a boutique experience that is a little more special than an average hotel, and most especially billing themselves as having a scientific/futuristic theme based around voice-operated services that were by their own admission broken in several rooms, the hotel operators should consider the diminished customer experience from what is promised. read more

I thought you could only label puppies as adorable, but that's what comes to mind when I laid eyes on this hotel. It's trendy and unique and in my eyes, adorable. This hotel went to meticulous lengths to be different. It definitely fits in the boutique-type hotel category. Quaint rooms, not so spacious but hey, it's fine for two. I love the old school meets nuevo world look. Seems hard to pull that off but they do so quite effortlessly. They state they are at the intersection of art and science and I'd say that's a good representation of this hotel. From the second you hit the elevators, you get a first glimpse of "different". You press the floor you need and a number will light up telling you which of the three elevators will be opening. They are identified by a single letter and then they have little flatscreens above each elevator that will air something for you to watch as your elevator is coming. Then when you step in you don't have to press the floor number, in fact there is no option to do so. It just knows to take you to the floor. When you get to your room, each number has a magnifying glass over it to enlarge your room number. So distinctive! And how about the robots? Leo and Cleo. You can text them and ask for things like shaving cream or other toiletries, and they will literally come to your door, you retrieve what you requested, and then they are on their way. I was really wishing my daughter was here to see that. It was so awesome! The shower is almost the showcase of the room with 3 glass walls, and it's huge. There is a big heavy curtain that wraps around the perimeter of the shower and bathroom. There are lots of places to operate the lighting, and several options like nightlight (which oddly is the shower light), relax which turns on 3 different lights, one light on either side of the bed or you can turn them all on or off. The lights are nice, too either recessed lighting or globe shaped lights. Love it! And they have the Alexa Echo dot. How cool is that? Even cooler is they have this contraption that is supposed to enhance and magnify the sound from the dot. We had difficulty trying to get it synced, however, and didn't get it to try it. The television options include Pandora, Hulu, and Netflix. Genius. So many people don't have regular TV anymore so it's nice to be able to log into your Netflix or Hulu account when you need to unwind at night or whenever. The curtains are great here because they really trap the light from getting inside the room. I am amazed that it literally is light out just after 5 AM here. So it's really nice to be able to keep that sunlight out until you're ready to get your butt out of bed. The bathroom is nice. I love the big sink and the tile floor. I also like that the hot water comes pretty quickly when you need it. They have this adorable pipeline with a holder for washcloths including one that's black (versus white) labeled makeup. I love the smell of the shampoo, and the soap lathered nicely. Also if you are a Marriott member, you can gain award points for this brand of hotel. I'm so impressed with this hotel, I'd like to find others in their Autograph collection. Side note, most restaurants I've been to don't have a super great restaurant inside the hotel. But this hotel was different. The Albert was quite exceptional, but I'll save that for another review. read more

I had ZERO complaints here. We booked through Priceline and could not have been happier. They follow all of the required protocols for staying safe and is a great place even to hang out in your room and order food in. The staff was very nice and kindly offered us an umbrella as we left in the rain. All of the pictures that you see online are completely accurate. The vibe in the lobby and in the room are industrial and cozy. The bathroom is very cool with a completely open shower (with a curtain if you want it). The location alone is ideal. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here. read more

Landmark Review So I was in town for a conference and they put us up at this boutique hotel. I was surprised how nice and modern this would be. The prices listed for 1 night were not bad. Staff was prompt and quick at check in even though I came in super late that Friday night. They did mess up my card initially and I had to go back downstairs to get my card coded again. The robot staff member that delivers amenities is really cool, but i did not end up using it during my stay. Also the echo in the room was another nice high tech items which was not used. The conference center on the middle floor is comfortable, modern, and well equipped. I would recommend this place in the future. read more

I'd usually give this a 5 star.... But Oddly enough the 3 out of 5 times I have stayed here I personally as well as other hotel guests have complained of losing jewelry. I personally had a bag of Tiffanies stolen from me. I love the steampunk look, modern art, etc.... But at what cost? Last time I stayed There was almost two weeks ago, in a large one bedroom. It had numerous broken things in the room, tattered furniture, a safe that did not work, and a toilet that did not work. (By it did not work i mean it did not always flush.) Not sure what's happening as of late but I plan to stay elsewhere. Perhaps hire new people or get more cameras.*** I love this place so I'm pretty let down. Not all hotels are created equal and this one, inspired by Albert Einstein, is very eccentric and unique. It's a boutique hotel that has an upscale vibe to it. We were lucky enough to get to stay here during a business trip to Chicago. It sits off Ontario Street, not far from Lakeshore Dr and Magnificent Mile. It also has a great restaurant, The Albert, just inside. So what makes this place unique? Well, to put it bluntly, they have Robots!!! Leo and Cleo provide room service (items like shaving kits, toothbrush, toilette paper) and are very cute. You text what you need on your phone and they send it. A doorbell rings on your TV and then it states your order is at your door. A little robot is standing there, and as soon as you open your door, it's lid pops up to give you your item. It does a little happy shake when you give it 5 stars, and does this cute goodbye. I wanted to take it home. Aside from that, there are lots of different features in the room like an echo dot (wasn't working during our stay due to upgrades), a sound system that amplified music on your phone, a shower that was all glass (so everyone in the room could watch you shower lol, it does have a drape that you can pull around it), a cool light button system to set the mood, a nice copper back drop near the sink and a comfy bed. Our room also came with a used a condom wrapper and desk light that wouldn't turn off. That's the reason for the star bump. The bellman at the front was great, and so was service. I loved their shower gel (smelled manly, which I told my honey it smelled like she hugged another guy) and the fact that the elevator was a one touch stop - meaning you just pushed your floor on the pad outside the elevator and then the pad directed you to the elevator you needed to take. It's a great spot and unique stay. For the cost, I would check it out! read more

My husband and I were in Chicago for a conference and stayed at the EMC2 not knowing what to expect. Well, it was amazing!!! This boutique hotel was filled with amazing art and history. The staff couldn't have been more attentive or helpful. We were offered a choice of staying in a room near the elevator, which is something I usually avoid but we wanted a king bed. It was a great choice. Not once did we hear any noise from the elevator. Even more important was the bar/restaurant within the hotel. Chris and Matt took such care of us and their drinks are amazing!!! The smoked old fashion was a hit! When we return to Chicago, the EMC2 will be ouhotel of choice. read more

Hotel EMC2, autograph collection of the Marriott collection was so much fun to stay in. Upon arrival, they were able to get us in at 10 am after early check in request. They thought of every detail possible to include both art and science themed! Robots, Leo and Cleo will deliver your request items after texting for them- by far the best part of the hotel! The room was extremely clean, up to date gold features and lights, and bed was pretty comfortable for a hotel! The shower was open in the middle of the room (able to have privacy with a curtain), rain faucet with hand held option. Each hotel room had Alexa that could set alarms and/or answer some hotel questions. We didn't want to leave the hotel at night because it was so cozy and fun, I would definitely recommend staying here for a night! read more

If you're open to leaving your car parked for your stay, Hotel EMC2 is an absolute gem. I can not begin to overstate how unique this place is. You'll feel like you're being treated to your own luxurious VIP stay - complete with room-service robots who make the cutest squeaks. I (honestly) can't wait to come back. PROS: -The rooms are beautiful and unique. This isn't a "standard" hotel room. You'll spend a full day just discovering various parts about it and being impressed. From light switches that come with lighting profiles, an analog speaker to play cell music, the closet that's hidden behind a curtain, and the beautiful vanity lamp, there's just so much to discover here. The whole place is gorgeous and unique. Seriously, it's a step above your usual hotel room. -The in-room showers are very, very "on display" for the person laying on the bed. This is probably beneficial for most people staying here. If it isn't, unlike the Cleveland version of this hotel, there IS a long curtain that can be wrapped around the shower. It is very much possible to peak though. Not a place I'd want to shower with someone I didn't trust. But if you like seeing them wash, it's A+. This place definitely has a "romantic getaway" feel to it. -The lighting options! From multiple levels of intensity for the shower light, a one-touch nightlight that's accessible all over the room, and everything else. You can really get as much (or as little) light as you want. -Really nicely located. You're less than two blocks from the Starbucks Roastery. You're 1 block from Magnificent Mile. You have hundreds of food options that can deliver, and you're across the street from multiple food options. The Albert restaurant is right downstairs, and the Aloft hotel's bar across the street has a nice happy hour with hipster-esque vibes if you want something less serious. -Staff was extremely pleasant. From the front desk staff who welcomed us every time we came and left to the helpful bell staff who helped us move our luggage, everybody was very friendly. -Cleo and Leo - the room service robots. Oh my god, they're amazing. Protip: ask to see the Cleo plushie at the front desk. You can buy one of your own! -AC vents are located inside of the in-room desk. I actually liked it mid-summer. We left our clothes on top of it and they were frigid to help us deal with mid-90s temps when we left the hotel. I'd imagine this would get uncomfortable if you were trying to regularly work at the desk though. CONS: -We couldn't figure out how to turn on the light in the toilet room from inside the toilet room. It looks like you had to turn it on from the far side of the vanity area in order to have a light in the toilet. -Having to use your car while you're here just sucks. There are constantly (quite literally, constantly. We could see the front of the building from our room) cars parked in front of the EMC2 hotel. Unloading and reloading your car will likely require being partially parked in the street. If you choose to self-park (which is still WOW expensive), there are no in-out privileges. The hotel is really nicely located to stores and food options, but still: expect to stay in EMC2 and the immediate area for most of your stay. Accessing your car sucks. A lot. -Our Alexa wasn't working when we checked in. It appeared to factory reset itself, and it wouldn't order like was advertised. That being said, the front desk offered to come up and fix it then and there. We just chose to call down for our needs instead. read more

Loved the convenient location of this hotel! Loved the robot! Loved the decor and cleanliness! Staff was amazing - particularly the guy working the afternoon of 11/4 and check out 11/6! Only downside was I guess the location of my room (910) - I could hear ambulances through most of the night - the hospital is right behind the hotel... so there's that. We were able to walk to multiple restaurants and millennium park - which is a plus in the big cities. Aside from the noises, I would definitely stay here again! read more

Loved, loved this hotel!! As you'll see from my detailed description below, I think the designers of this hotel absolutely nailed their theme of art meeting science. As you drive down Ontario street, the giant EMC2 sign is very easy to spot. Valets were always nice, efficient and available. (Be prepared to pay $65 a night to park and wait 15-20 minutes to get your car. You'll stress less.) I didn't get the names of any of the front desk staff during my stay, but they were all always smiling and saying hi as I went by. (I just love midwestern hospitality.) I was already checked in and had my room assignment and mobile key when I arrived close to midnight, but I spent 60 seconds at the front desk to get a "real" key. NOTE: pay attention to your surroundings at EMC2! (Both around the hotel and in your room.) You'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find. For example, the video screens above the elevators show some cool storm footage. Also, the video screens outside the elevators on each floor are really fun to watch while you wait for the elevator. The elevators have no buttons in them. You press your floor and it lets you know which elevator to get on (R, G or B) If you can't figure it out, the people at the front desk can call one for you! Ha It's all connected to WiFi, which is also how Cleo and Leo get around. (On that note, order cookies, or at least water. The robots are a trip.) If you don't have water delivered, they always have a bottle or two for you at the front desk. Which is nice. The rooms are not huge (maybe 310-320), but the hotel doesn't claim they're huge either. (It's the mag mile, so most hotels don't have huge rooms.) And, the room makes do with its size. There are light switches, outlets and usb plugs seemingly everywhere. The "bar" area inconspicuously is in the corner, including a fridge that looks like another drawer. The bed was super comfy. The glass shower is amusing. I recommend closing the curtain before you shower. A totally different experience than when it's open. Lastly, try the "sound amplifier". With all of the science and high tech stuff at the hotel, this is hilariously low tech, but functional. I will definitely try and stay at EMC2 whenever I visit Chicago. I used to SHOUT at the wind. Had a great one-night stay. The hotel is small, but really unique, high-tech, and beautiful. The shower is to die for! Be weary of ordering room service cocktails - we ordered margaritas, which arrived in a pre-made bottle and cost $38 each! Had I known, I would have easily gone downstairs to the hotel bar and paid half for a fresh one. read more

The vibes , the vibes , the vibes loved staying here ! The small details from the gold accents in the bathroom, the lighting in the room, the "hidden" fridge in the closet. I wish I could post the videos here. Very covid friendly, the restaurant was closed sadly but definitely will be back. No parking, but theirs a parking garage around the corner, use SpotHero and you will save so much on parking. Restaurants close and across the street, 7/11 around the corner. Would give it 5 starts but on arrival we waiting awhile before someone came to the front desk to check us in. read more

I initially had a poor experience with Marriott Bonvoy regarding my stay at Hotel EMC2. American Airlines canceled my flights to Chicago three times, so I missed out on two nights of my hotel reservation at the hotel. Diogo, the Front Desk Manager at Hotel EMC2, turned a negative experience into a positive one during my stay! He took the time to call me, discuss the situation, and make things right. A lot of hotels will respond via email, but I want to highlight how incredible it is to have someone take the time to speak with you on the phone about a situation. The hotel is stunning. The rooms are beautiful and clean, and the restaurant (The Albert) has incredible food and amazing cocktails. But what takes the cake here is the hotel staff. They truly went above and beyond for me, and I really appreciate the fantastic customer service. Thank you again, Diogo! read more

My favorite Bonvoy option in Chicago - hands down. Great rooms, excellent location, solid hotel restaurant/bar.

Had the chance to stay at this hotel this week and it was definitely an upscale and techy hotel. Leo the robot delivered my water bottles and that was just really cool! The room I reserved had amazing with rose gold accents (which I love) from the shower head to the mirror rims to the wonderful speaker in the rooms. I also had the chance to have breakfast at the restaurant and it was amazing. Great selections of basic eggs, bacon and steel cut oatmeals. Also had Bagels and Lox for those that wanted something different for lunch. This hotel is a great location for those who doesn't want to be to far from the mag. mile for some great shopping and places for a great meal . Highly recommend the hotel and worth the stay! read more

This hotel, this hotel, this hotel! Wow. Can I just move in? Do I really have to leave? As one who has an affinity for pretty hotels in the city, I've had my eye on Emc2 for a while. Finally went down for a few days on a staycation and it was even more amazing than I could have imagined! Everything about the hotel is ridiculously gorgeous. Love the F Scott Fitzgerald/art nouveau vibe in every detail. The spaces are beautiful - from the lobby, to the restaurant, to the amazing guest rooms. The high tech aspect is super fun and a great contrast to the art nouveau aesthetic. Yes, everyone talks about the cute robots that you can text to bring you things to your room. DO IT! Alexa in the room, a speaker for your cell phone, nuanced and comprehensive lighting options. The bedding is the most comfortable thing you could ever imagine, and the robe. THE ROBE. THE ROBE!!! Buy the robe. Take one home. You will be so glad you did. That way, when you're back home and going through withdrawal, you can at least wrap yourself up in something luxurious that will soak up your tears (true story). The staff is unbelievable. Lux at the front desk is amazing! Everyone I encountered in the bar and restaurant were also great. Take yourself down to that beautiful copper bar. Order a drink. Sit there and just enjoy the view of that beautiful space. If you get tired of that, you can people watch from the huge two-story window wall. Oh, and order the pimento cheese! I'm from the south, and I've never had pimento cheese that good in the midwest. I knew this review would be OTT, so I tried to think of the weaknesses - balanced review, and all that. I will say that the hair dryers in the guest rooms.. well, they're just okay. Sorry, that's the best I got. I'm going to be back to this place A LOT. read more

We hosted a corporate event at EMC2 and Vincente S. on the hospitality team went above and beyond! He made our meeting so memorable. For example, when we realized we didn't a vegetarian meal for an attendee, he sprung into action and quickly retrieved veggies and yummy items to ensure everyone felt taken care of. He also surprised and delighted us with a Chicago treat. His attention to detail and responsiveness created an enjoyable experience for all of our attendees.
