Being an Expedia Gold Member, I was able to take advantage of the VIP rewards and the manager Lyle generously upgraded our room. Our room was gorgeous with a city view, I loved everything about it, the color scheme, the bed, the bathroom, all of it. Our stay was very comfortable, they made us feel completely at home and we even took advantage of their happy hour before we headed for the rest of our day. To top it off, right as we're leaving the lobby, we noticed an employee making fresh popcorn in one of those old school popcorn stands. We immediately grabbed a cute little bag and got a huge scoop of popcorn for our train ride. Score! Aside from the inside of the hotel, it is conveniently located in Dupont Circle, so close to the metro station, down the street from a CVS and restaurants. Check in was a breeze, the desk clerk could not have been more friendly and helpful. They cleaned my room. I'm only here for two nights, so they only had one chance to forget to clean my room, and they did good. Why then only two stars? At the ridiculous room rate one expects something special. They can sell the rooms at the ridiculous prices they do because other hotels get away with it also. I recently stayed down the street at a Marriott citizen M property, paid ridiculous room rate, but I at least I had a nice view of the Capitol building dome from my bed. The Kimpton Banneker has literally nothing special about it. The room is large and clean and reasonably comfortable. The bathroom has shampoo and conditioner and it smells good. But it's ordinary. My view out the window is of a back alley. There's a really attractive restaurant attached to the front of the hotel. But an artsy fancy restaurant is not a hotel amenity. The restaurant has a sort of Caribbean island vibe, but it needs a pool or something to complete the experience. And the 10 or 15% discount they give you is a joke. Mind you, I am not a penny-pincher, although you couldn't tell that by this review. But I spend a huge amount of time traveling both for work and pleasure. I love a comfortable hotel that has something special about it. I can live with mundane for about a third the price I paid for the Kimpton Banneker. Final note: IHG properties are usually not a disappointment. But never find yourself having to deal with their incompetent customer service on the phone. They are poorly trained. They aren't allowed to make any decisions. They have no sympathy for an American traveler with certain expectations, simple expectations. They read from a script. I've had crises ranging from checking into a hotel that has no hot water to having my reservation canceled during a transcontinental flight because the hotel couldn't reach me by phone. For this stay, I had to talk to them on the phone about my IHG rewards account. Angry and incompetent are gift words for the customer service agent that I dealt with. Thankfully, when I checked in, the desk clerk made it all better.

From the moment we arrived, the customer service was impeccable. All I wanted for my birthday was a relaxing weekend, and Pendry delivered exactly that. My wife knew how much I needed some time to unwind, and with the help of the amazing staff, this birthday was everything I hoped it would be. Our suite was stunning. The photos truly don't do it justice! We had a beautiful view overlooking the pool, and the room felt more like a luxury apartment than a hotel room (minus the stove ). Everything was spotless, the bedroom was spacious, and the shower was hands-down one of my favorite parts of the entire stay. A special thank you to Jarae and the staff for the thoughtful birthday card and delicious dessert. Those little touches made my celebration feel even more special. While you're there, be sure to check out Bar Pendry, Moonraker, and the spa. And don't leave without picking up one of their soaps, candles, or body washes--you'll definitely want to take that signature Pendry scent home with you! I thought it was luxury but it's not. It reminds me of Thompson brand actually just modern boutique with upscale touches but lacks attention to detail. Love their pool deck. Everything else is just okay. Bed was comfortable though and staff were friendly and tried to be serviceable. Like the accent lighting in room. Tiny rooms tiny bathroom with only 1 sink. Toilet closet is also small and claustrophobic. Wallpaper in hallways by elevator coming apart. When we got to our room there was bug crawling on our ceiling above the bed; took a while for cleaning ladies to come get it and they screamed and giggled as they tried to kill it. There was also one stuck on ceiling looked like a dead crushed gnat she tried for 3 seconds to get it off with her rolling tool and couldn't and left it there. Floor had crumbs and walls had food and makeup stains. Just not luxurious at all. I also do not recommend from a FHR standpoint. We were unable to get in our room early as the advertised noon checkin. I even asked if anything other than our upgraded room was available to get in room sooner and was told no. We arrived at 130 and didn't get in until 345ish. Before getting our room keys in addition to the original 200.00 incidental charge at check in, they charged my card for incidentals multiple times while we waited for the room to be ready and no one could explain why. I asked for manager and he immediately reversed the additional over 400.00 in overages. My card was charged again after that for something else so please watch your cards if staying here. Included with Amex FHR program, you do get 70.00 towards breakfast and a 100.00 credit and I hope there is no confusion at check out. It seems there may be so I am skeptical to use it. More charges hit my card after speaking with manager over 800 in automatic system security deposit charges no one can explain. Unacceptable. Also bathrooms on first floor at night were disgusting not clean at all poop in toilets tissue all over stall floors and ceiling was leaking had a bucket of water in middle of bathroom by sinks.

Then, there was the first red flag- I was told by the person checking me in "I would make sure I give you a nice room" only to find out that I was staying in one of the smallest rooms with a very small bed, which they quoted a "superior queen", but is actually full size. Then I realized that they were charging $250/ per night "conference rate", when the actual nightly rate is between $116-$183. That night, I ate at the restaurant, and the food was mediocre and very costly. Maybe the reason while I was the only person dining. On the first morning, I requested an iron and ironing board at 7:30 am, but it was 8:45 and time for me to leave form the conference, but it never arrived, so I could not iron my clothes. It was however in the room when I returned that evening. The breaking point for me was having to throw away a very expensive meal that I had refrigerated, because they claim to not have a microwave anywhere on site. Why have a refrigerator if you don't have a way to warm anything up? What was even more disturbing was the person at the front desk asking me, "you can't it cold?", and the manager falsely stating that it was DC law that hotels with restaurants, do not have microwaves, then back-tracking when I told him that there were microwaves at the Marriott down the street. Lastly, I was appalled, when I asked the doorman if it was safe for me to walk to the grocery store that was two blocks away, and he told me to "go with God." To his defense, he escorted me half-way down the block when he saw the look on my face. This place earned a star because it is overall a well-kept facility, with a historic feel; housekeeping did an excellent job; and upon check-out, the lady at the front desk offered me free breakfast because I reported to her that I was dissatisfied and would not stay there again. This is something that the first manager should have done once I verbalized my displeasure. Not on the morning of check-out when I was heading to the conference and could not accept the offer. Needless to say, other people might have had an excellent experience at Morrison Clarke, but I did not and won't be staying there the next time I go to DC for a conference. Furthermore, I recommend that conference organizers do not list this facility as an accommodation option due to the price gouging.

Great atmosphere, good drinks, and really good food. It's nice being able to have everything right there without having to leave the hotel. The room itself was very comfortable and nicely appointed. One thing I found a little odd was that I had originally booked a Deluxe King but was upgraded to an Executive King. My friends had the Deluxe King, and honestly, I thought their room was nicer than mine. From what I could tell, the primary difference with the Executive was the additional office/workspace. If you're deciding between the two, I'd probably save the money and stick with the Deluxe. The rooms are also advertised as having heated bathroom floors. I tried several times to get mine working and couldn't. It wasn't a major issue and certainly didn't ruin the stay, but it was a little disappointing since it was something I was looking forward to. One other note: I would not recommend parking across the street at 11 Dupont Circle. The garage is extremely small and difficult to maneuver in and out of, especially with a larger vehicle. Overall, I'd definitely recommend The DuPont Circle Hotel if you're visiting DC and want a quieter, more relaxed vibe while still being in a great part of the city. I'd happily stay here again.

The cafe they have in the lobby has very good food and drinks, but we were disappointed that we had to pay for it when we read it was included in our stay. This is the most concerning issue to me, they had one "working" elevator that had no sensor for if something or someone was in the way. My husband put his arm out to hold the door for someone and it nearly took his fingers off! We tested this a few more times as we were in shock and still, it closed with no regard as to if something was in the way. Lastly, we booked a room with a king sized bed. After laying down it is clear that the "king sized" bed was just two twins pushed together as there was an uncomfortable dent in the middle. We really liked the style of this hotel and we slept decent here, but the hidden charges, scary parking garage, and terrifying elevator made it that we will not be returning.

Logan Circle and Dupont Circle is very central to shops, great restaurants, and local LGBTQ nightlife, so it's super convenient. However, my lesser than stellar experience started upon check-in at the front desk, where I was informed they did not have the room type (Viceroy Studio King) I booked. What appeared to be a minor issue became more apparent once I entered the room... My second floor, double-bed, room was dark (only top-half windows on the second floor), and an accessible room. This meant many features provided in the Viceroy Studio King were not present: some decor, fully enclosed glass door shower, the nice green comfortable rug seen in most room pics, etc. - and some other features were added, such as a medical chair in the shower, a plastic curtain, among other selections. While it wasn't the end of the world by any means, it was not the experience I booked for a nice, relaxing stay at the Viceroy. Rather, it seemed I was provided the last available 'dud' room in the hotel that no one else wanted...when I went down to the front desk to ask for a different room - I was informed there was none other available and I could not be moved. After advocating for myself, I was begrudgingly offered that my amenity fee could be waived for the inconvenience. They also brought me an extra lamp. However, at check-out, there was no note for the waiving of the fee, and I was charged for it - luckily I noticed the charge prior to leaving and the staff was still able to refund the fee after re-explaining and advocating for myself regarding the issues experienced, yet again. Additionally, there were so few electrical outlets in the room - nothing by the desk so I couldn't plug in my laptop, and for the extra lamp, it was necessary to unplug the coffeemaker. While the front desk staff was friendly and helpful albeit with some challenges, this stay was just not what I expected given what I was looking forward to and what I had actually booked. I would still consider another stay here given the location and what I've seen from the other rooms on property and just hopefully get a different, better overall experience. Edit: post-stay, I filled out surveys that were part of routine follow-up emails from the hotel, and was informed I would hear from management regarding any issues shared. After no further response for three weeks, I reached out to the hotel once again. They simply acknowledged the frustration and nothing more. It seems that Viceroy, at least the Washington DC location, has lost what it means to be in guest hospitality. I did not have an opportunity to experience the pool as it's not open until Memorial Day. The fitness center, although small, has plenty to work with.
