I really wanted to give this hotel a great review, because it looked so cool and we got a really great deal on our rate. We stayed Saturday night into Sunday for the last Waterfire of the season. The hotel location was ideal for this event as it was in walking distance.. and parking looked like a nightmare, so we were pretty psyched to have valet at the hotel. The accommodations were beautiful and the bar was pretty cool, especially when we were able to order drinks and bring them back to our rooms. But the "Customer Service" was not up to par to the caliber of the hotel. I had signed up for the rewards program which was suppose to supply the guest with a sweet or salty treat upon arrival, as well as water your choice of pillow, and USA today in the morning. I inquired about it when I checked in and was told it was in my room already. It wasn't. So I called the front desk and was told I was not in the system and to re give them my information and it would be right up. It never came. I said something at check out and was told by the manager that next time I come it will be all set. Next time might have been a possibility had they not given me misinformation about how much the hold would be on my card. They told me they would put a hold of 100 in my debit card which would go right back into my account the day I checked out. We paid for it on a separate card but they put a hold of 281 on my debit card. That is a pretty significant amount of money to misquote. I called the hotel and they manager again stated he would take care of it immediately. Which he tried to but did not want to wait on hold with the bank. This is extremely inconvenient, and not something an upscale hotel should make a mistake on. Needless to say I will most definitely never be returning to the Hotel Providence, and I was very disappointed in my experience. read more

1. There was a wedding below my window with extremely loud music and yelling all night that sounded like it was happening inside of my room. The hotel was unable to move my room to the other side of the building and despite repeat calls to the front desk and promises to have the music turned down, nothing changed until the wedding ended at about 11pm. 2. The hotel valet damaged my car and did not inform me about the damage until I specifically asked about it. 3. I booked the hotel through another website and the hotel double charged my credit card. I think I should be paid for this stay for the time and inconvenience car repairs/insurance and dealing with improper billing has caused me. Will not stay at this hotel again. The room was nice but not worth the tremendous hassle. read more

Had a great stay! This was the cheapest decent hotel we found in the area on a Saturday night so I did not have lofty expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is...different. It is retro modern if that makes sense. The amenities you would want but things look like they are old (think flat screen TV inside an old wooden armoire). The room was nice, they offered us a free breakfast for our anniversary. And the location was great. We were able to do a couple laps around the city using the hotel as the middle area. Special thanks for the gentleman that was working the bar and showed us to the elevator on Saturday night (24 years old with a beard, sorry the name escapes me!). TO MANAGEMENT- he was great and has alot of good ideas for the bar. You should hear him out! Overall, nice change of pace hotel, great location, great staff and great price. My husband and I used Hotel Providence last April when we were getting married. We had absolutely no problems with our room block, and the guests all loved the Hotel. My issue is with Rhonda English, who we used so set up our Rehearsal dinner and morning after brunch. At first, everything was perfect. Rhonda had great ideas and was very accommodating to our lobster bake idea. The dinner itself went really well, or so I thought. I had provided Rhonda with a guest count the week before, but somehow a few of our guests did not receive any lobster or chicken with their dinner. It was embarrassing to find out the next day that they ran out of food and some people (including my sisters!) were only able to get a salad! My husband and I did not expect to get a discount or even money taken off of our bill, but we were extremely disappointed that Rhonda did not respond to any of our emails or even apologize for the confusion. read more

The primary reason for the poor review is that there's a nightclub across the street that is very loud, and I can't sleep because of it. There are double-pane windows in the room, probably to keep out the sound, but they're just not enough. I think the hotel really should have warned me about the loud music because it's pretty bad. Other reasons for the low review: (1) It takes a very long time for the front desk to pick up. (2) I got the "Bed, Breakfast & Parking Package" which, according to the hotel's website, includes "2pm check-out," but when I got here, they told me that it only included 1:00 p.m. check-out. Shady. (3) The decor is pretty gaudy and tacky. One good thing is that they allow pets although I don't need it this time. Certainly won't be coming back and don't recommend this place. read more

Gross food. Raw under cooked veggies with my beef tenderloin, and cold soup. The veggies had chopped carrots and baby carrots in the mix, and the baby carrots were crunchy. You can't beat the location, it is more or less dead center of down city. The room was absolutely beautiful and my king size bed was wicked comfy. Extremely nice hotel and staff and I had a wonderful breakfast at Aspire(left a review there as well). I have a few minor complaints but 1 isn't even in their control. If you are looking to sleep past 9am do not stay here. The church next door feels that 9am deservers 5 minutes of their bells for some reason, there is a whole medley and its super loud. My second complaint is that the maids will try and get into your room at 9 or 10am if you do not have the privacy sign in the door. Thirdly the shower heads are not great. I thoroughly enjoy my morning shower but not so much when I have to fight to stay wet. The water pressure is there but the water flow is low and precise so its hard to keep your whole body wet and warm. Overall it was a great stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone, unless they were trying to sleep past 8:55am or you are a shower enthusiast. read more

I found this place to to be overpriced for what was offered. I was charged about $400 for a room. Admittedly, I booked late, but needed to be in that area and not much else was available. But at that price in Providence RI, I expected something very nice and I was disappointed. The room was small, kind of dark and very basic. There was a bedside table on only one side of the bed (because the wall jutted out next to it). The bathroom was unheated and very cold (especially with marble floors). Additionally, there was no refrigerator, no Netflix on the TV, it was lacking in amenities that I have come to expect at a price such as that. This hotel was certainly OKAY...but for the price of a room in NYC, I had hoped for more. read more

I'll definitely return to the Hotel Providence. First of all, the rates on Priceline can't be beat - $65.00 for a Saturday night. The location is very central, and it was easy for me to find parking at a meter spot a block away (though they also offer valet parking for $25). The room was immaculate, the king bed loaded with pillows and nice linens, windows that you can open, large marble bathroom... But, best of all, the service was excellent. On checking in the receptions kindly inquired about my drive down, and quickly looked up my reservation and treated me as though I'd paid full price. Unfortunately, I ended up with the flu on Sunday morning, and realized I needed to stay another night. The guy at the reception desk was kind enough to honor the same rate I paid via Priceline (when they really could have gouged me on the room price as I was pretty desperate to not have to leave). And, he asked if there was anything he could do to help. By 3PM I was feeling better and decided I'd drive home. I was afraid he'd charge me for the room anyway, since it was after 3 when I checked out, but he said no problem - he wouldn't charge me for the extra night, considering the situation. A chain hotel would likely not be so accommodating. The one downside is that the bells from the church next door are loud starting at 8AM. Oh and, the plumbing made some really loud noises in the morning, off and on for about an hour. All in all a great option. read more

We booked this hotel because we were going to the boat show which was right down the street and the rate was very attractive. Would not go back there EVER! Room was spacious and on first glance looked nice, but, turn on the lights and the rug was filthy and the bathroom floor was dirty as well. Back to the hotel about 10 and really tired. The bed was quite hard but exaustion took over until 1:30 am when all hell broke loose. Almost called the police, not sure if it was in the room next to us or the street or what. Called the front desk and told there was a concert at Lupos and the crowds were usually roudy. This lasted until after 3am...when I tried to speak to the man at the front desk in the morning, he was not interested in my issues at all. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about my stay here. I took my girlfriend out for her birthday, this place is great. The lobby is nice - not too big, but definitely upscale and welcoming. The entire staff gets an A+ rating from me, from the host/hostess to the cleaners you bump into in the hall, to the waitstaff at Aspire. I got a $30 credit towards breakfast which was a nice bonus (we used it and thought it was excellent), the room was very classy, and the bathroom was beautiful too. Even the soaps/shampoo/conditioner were nice! I got rose pedals brought to our room with chocolate covered strawberries for the turn-down service while we were at dinner, and it came out beautifully. The host was very discreet about scheduling it so that my girlfriend didn't find out about it, and they even took a note to call me a cab for dinner. We took a 5 minute cab ride to Federal Hill and got dinner, it was an all around excellent experience. Like I said, we got up early enough to get breakfast at Aspire and it was wonderful. The location was nice, close to the Providence mall, Roger Williams Zoo, Dunkin Donut Center, and Federal Hill. The only negative was the fact that its VERY loud at night. We're young and had drinks with dinner, so it didn't affect our stay/sleep at all - but if you're looking to go to bed early and hate noise this might not be the best place to spend a weekend. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it to a friend any time, but I'd definitely tell them about the loud music so that they weren't surprised! read more

I would say this place is a solid 4-4.5. Hidden surprise. Nice inside and was well decorated for the event I attended. The appetizers were amazing. The meals were great too. Only criticism was some of the wait staff in the main dining area kept messing up who had fish or chicken and did not seem to be that friendly or happy I would not take what I did not order. Lets first start out with something important. The hotel is across the street from a homeless shelter. So the usual riff raff and drunks frequently are nearby. It can make walking to the many wonderful restaurants uncomfortable from the hotel itself. There is a bell hop that is always near by. The rooms are also wonderful but many lack amenities such as a mini fridges or microwave ovens. A phone call to the front desk and they will provide a mini fridge for free. Otherwise the beds are fantastic. The rooms are very clean and the staff go way above and beyond to provide the best service. The hotel itself is worth the money. read more

This was the first place I stayed in PVD when apartment hunting. It was no more in price than the majority of other nice hotels and is really right downtown. Our dog was allowed to stay in the room with us. Pet friendly, wow! The first step is admitted you have a problem. Hotel Providence looks like a nice hotel, but there are lots of rough edges. The rooms are not laid out well. The elevator is slow. There's lots of noise from adjoining rooms (you can hear full conversations), not enough staff to take care of people, etc. But the biggest issue for me is that the Internet service is janky. I travel a fair amount and have used a lot of hotel Internet. Hotel Providence's Internet is the second worst I've ever experienced. First, if your device is disconnected from the Internet, you have to go back through the log-on process again. This is really annoying. Lock your phone, sleep your iPad, boom, you've gotta spend 45 seconds going to a web site that will trigger the login screen, enter the "password", and get back online. Second, the Internet service is flaky. It randomly goes down and comes back up. The first time this happened, I contacted the front desk and asked to have the issue escalated to tier 2 support. They didn't and kept trying to tell me how to enter the password into the login panel. As reference, I work for 1 of the 3 companies that makes Internet systems that they were using (turns out they were using another vendor's product). Third, they claim that the system is "brand new" except that the company listed as the provider of telecommunication solutions hasn't updated their web site since 2005 (check the bottom of the company's web site... it's got a (c) 2005 on it). So, Hotel Providence may have bought something recently, but it's being sold by a company that can't even keep its own web site up to date. I wound up using a WiFi hotspot whenever the Hotel Providence WiFi got hinky, waited an hour, and went back to the "not priced by the megabyte" service. If the Hotel Providence folks had owned up to the issue, then I wouldn't give them a 1 star review. But blaming me for the problems (this is what I do for a living Hotel Providence staff) is infuriating. A hotel worth staying at will at least acknowledge the problem. There are plenty of other places to stay in Providence. Choose one. read more

This hotel was an excellent find. I left the Omni (pricey and uncomfortable) and checked into the Providence on advice of a friend and was pleasantly surprised. The room (king) was comfortable and spacious the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a restaurant onsite but the area has excellent places all within easy walking distance. Valet parking well worth paying for just for the ease and convenience. Room service was great for morning coffee and breakfast. I stayed for the week got everything done I needed to and when time came to check out I felt I got my money's worth. read more

If you choose to stay in this hotel, be sure to lock own anything you leave in your room, and NEVER leave anything behind. I have serious questions as to the honesty of the housekeepers in this hotel. I booked a one night stay to visit Brown U. Very little luggage, just a quick in and out trip. Once I had checked out I realized I had left my Kindle Fire in the room. I had been reading it in bed that morning. I called right away and was given the runaround. Finally worked my way up to the manager of the hotel, and I was told it had not been found and that I should turn in a claim to my homeowners insurance (which of course would do me no good since my deductable is larger than the cost of the Kindle.) It is obvious to me that someone at the hotel has my Kindle since I don't remember packing it for my return trip, and my one lone bag went directly from my room, to my car, to my home. No real help or follow up was forthcoming. No apology, or customer service was offered. This hotel has lost the business of my entire family for the four years my nephew will attend Brown. I found the Hotel Providence through Hotwire.com. It's not much to look at on the outside, but the room was large, nicely appointed, and the king size bed was very comfortable. Isaac at the front desk was great, always helpful with a smile. Keurig with complementary coffee in the room; no minibar, only bottled water that was $4 each. Free WiFi. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that parking wasn't included in the room rate and it was an extra $28/day with unlimited in/out -- but don't forget those tips add up! read more

The walls are very very thin. We were next to a room having a party that did not stop until after having made 3 calls to the front desk. At this point it was 3am. It's with some regret that I give this hotel a 3 out of 5 stars. I wish I could give it a 5, however the volume from the club music was deafening until 2 am! It was beyond ridiculous and continued to get louder and louder until closing time. It honestly felt like the music was being played IN our room - you could hear every word of the song, not just the thumping of the base. It was unbearable! We mentioned it at the desk upon retrieval of our cars in valet and he feigned surprise and said it "could've been either the club near us or a Halloween block party". Upon reading the reviews on this site, it certainly seems clear that this music issue is not a one-off situation. I feel that they should at least warn their guests upon making reservations. Complaints aside, the hotel, room and staff were all exceptional! The rooms are very nice. Ours had two super comfortable queen beds, a sitting room with a tv and keurig coffee maker, and a huge bathroom with great amenties. Everyone was very helpful and accomodating. We had cookies and milk delivered to our room and even though they were good, the milk was not cold and the cookies were not warm (and no chocolate chip either). Although we did get a huge plate full of cookies so I can't complain about the amount you get! We even finished them off for breakfast since we signed up for late check out (1 pm), which was an awesome feature! The location is great - lots of cute stores and coffee shops in the area and it's close to the Providence Place Mall and lots of good restaurants. I guess I would recommend the hotel, just not on a club night (maybe stay Sun - Wed)! read more

I stayed at the hotel with my wife and young son for a wedding. It was certainly a nice facility, right downtown and charming. The staff also seemed very nice. However, there were a few things that made the stay less than 100% pleasant. First, as other reviewers have pointed out, there is a church next door with loud bells that ring at least every hour until 9:00 at night (at least). This gets old, especially when you have a toddler with you who needs a nap during the day. On the plus side, my tot did learn the word "bells." He repeated that word a lot over the few days that we were at the hotel, usually when he was supposed to be asleep. Speaking of toddlers, in my opinion this is not a kid-friendly hotel. We stayed there because they advertised that they had cribs available, or at least one. They did indeed have one, but it was badly broken and had to be replaced. The staff did not inspect the crib before placing it in our room, and we had to notify them that it was in our opinion a hazard due to a large crack in the side. The staff had to scramble to find another one, and they managed to dig up an ancient pack n play that smelled like mildew. Needless to say my son wanted no part in this, and didn't sleep very well the whole time we stayed there (also due to aforementioned bells). Lesson is to bring your own crib if you stay in this hotel with your baby or tot. Finally, I highly recommend that you do not leave anything behind in your hotel room that you want to retrieve. We left a small luggage rack that cost us $50 and realized that we had done so on our way to the airport. "No worries," said the person at the front desk, it'll be shipped. My wife let them know to ship it standard mail at the cheapest rate possible because we did not need it right away. Lo and behold, our credit card bill showed a $200 charge for shipping the luggage rack. They overnighted it via FedEx. Turns out that FedEx is the only carrier they use, no standard mail option at all. I spoke with a manager and he agreed to refund me $100 for the error, which was nice of him. Nonetheless, I would have preferred to understand exactly what our shipping options were rather than having them just pick the most expensive one. To me, this is not the customer service I would have expected. So if you are traveling without small children, don't think you'll be taking a nap longer than an hour during the day, and like a quaint hotel in a great location, this one will probably be just fine. If this doesn't describe your situation, I would humbly recommend considering other options. read more

After three years of holding a large annual 3 day conference at Hotel Providence I have to say, if you are in the need of a moderate sized event space in a beautiful boutique hotel.. check out Hotel Providence. Everything was great and things were made easier every step of the way by their entire staff. Mark, Rhonda, Sara, Trish, David, Anthony and Spencer could not have been any friendlier, or more accommodating to any fo our needs. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. They were wonderful. Bit of a snaffu at the restaurant, trying to figure out how many courses we had included in the hotel package. They went above and beyond to make everything right. My only two complaints would be that the friendly staff was a bit stifling-hard to catch up with family with waiters always at your table. And that the food was a bit overdone for my taste-over complicated and seriously small servings. All in all awesome though. read more

Interesting array of reviews on this Hotel - some of which are dead-on accurate. The hotel itself is in a central location, quite lovely, with a nice entry and a great lobby that is very dog friendly (didn't have my pups, but thought that the bed and dog biscuits were a very nice touch). The staff at the front desk were friendly and accommodating and the doorman was wonderful! Given the narrow street, we were grateful for valet, but a little stunned to hear that the valet guys had to run three blocks to find our car (which took them quite awhile, because they were not sure which lot had our car). The room that we had was really quite wonderful with the most comfortable bed that we encountered on our long trip to New England. Yes, the church bells rang and I worried that we would be up all night, but in all honesty, I never heard them after 10:00PM, so that was not a big issue. What we found to be a larger problem (not sure if this is going to sound politically correct, but what the heck) was the soup kitchen across the street and the endless line of homeless people who hung out and argued in front of the hotel. In all honesty, that was a bit of a deterrent, and unfortunately it would get out of hand and the doorman would have to wander across the street to ask the people to keep it down. My unsolicited opinion is that Providence is a lovely city that is badly in need of better shelters for people that are homeless - I cannot imagine what it must be like in the winter! In addition, it seems that there is a problem with infrastructure, as the streets are just a mess and the sidewalks are in very bad shape. Construction is happening everywhere ( I assume that is a good thing?), so I figure there must be a tax base that would take care of necessary improvements. read more

This is the best location of any hotel in Providence if you are a tourist. I researched it thoroughly. It's right smack in the middle of great restaurants, bars, and shops. It's a short walk to WaterFire. The hotel is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for with hotels. Rooms are well appointed, luxury bed linens, keurig coffee makers. Chocolate chip cookies and lemonade in the lobby. The front desk was very accomodating with early check in both times I stayed here. The second time I stayed here I got upgraded no extra charge to a junior suite. Not sure why except I know the rooms were sold out. You'll enjoy your stay here. read more

This is a wonderful, old hotel with great character. The lobby and rooms are furnished with antiques and real paintings. Additionally, the bathrooms have stone floors and lovely new amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable. All in all it had a luxurious feel. The staff, Matthew Tyler, in particular, were extremely helpful and kind. The valet watched my car while I walked to starbucks. It is well located in the lovely downtown arts district, which is a very beautiful area and close to RISD, Brown and many restaurants. read more

We had a great stay at this hotel. It has the luxurious feel of a big city hotel but not very expensive. The staff is friendly polite and warm and very knowledgable about the area...we asked 3 different desk/concierge people for a recommendation (places to eat place to go dancing) and each one was spot on for what we were looking for. This is a talent and the staff is probably the most compelling reason to stay. The room was pretty, very clean, comfortable and surprisingly spacious. This is a pet friendly hotel as evidence of the dog bones and dog bed in the lobby. (Would check their rules) Loved it! read more
