They really are a boutique hotel. They take great care of their guests. We arrived at the door, to be greeted by the friendly valet staff. We went to the front desk, checked in, and the person working explained to us all the great things in the area. He also offered us restaurant coupons. The experience was great. The room was a little small, but we got a great deal from Hotels.com, so I wasn't worried. The bathroom and bed were very clean. They provided plenty of towels and had great shampoo and soaps. My favorite part of this hotel was the convenient location. You are in the middle of everything! I would definitely choose this place in the future. read more

Even though I have many, many points with a couple of the big national hotel chains, I like to try boutique hotels in cities that I don't frequent. Reviews seemed strong for this place. BzzzzzzzzT! Can NOT for the life of me figure-out where some of the reviews are coming from. This place is precariously close to being called a complete dump...very close. "Marginal" is the kindest term I can muster. Musty smelling room with a view of a parking lot and side of a building and...a handicapped access room! The place was not even close to full, so why they think it's OK to put a 6'2" fit businessman arriving at midnight after a 12 hour travel day in a room with a weird handicap access setup is beyond me. Funky worn-out bed, one outlet at the 'desk', bad cable service, old food on the floor under the desk (a cookie), etc. But way too late to deal with the hassle of moving. The front desk guy was half asleep on arrival but nice enough, BUT on checkout (6:00A), there was nobody at the front desk and nobody answered the phone to get my car brought around. When I gave-up calling, I walked into the hallway to see the front desk guy walking around stuffing bills under a few doors....at 6:00 AM!? when people may be leaving...? Odd. This same guy was numb acting and dull when he did return to the front desk. Really bizarre given it was clearly a problem having to now wait 15 minutes for him to find the valet guy and get my car brought up...making me late. That said, the valet driver was VERY pleasant and clearly hustling to get his job done. I tipped him well. I would have been better off staying at the homeless shelter that is literally 30 feet across the street (with their clientele in line out front). So needless to say, I will not be back. I paid $134/night which is certainly inexpensive, but when I see others getting Priceline rooms at $50...? That's about all it's worth for sure. Good luck. read more

I LOVE this hotel. Honestly, one of the best hotel stays I've ever experienced. The room: Totally comfy, not huge (but decent-sized), great shower & bathroom, the bed was really comfortable (I'm even overlooking the fact that the sheets wouldn't stay on [weren't sized correctly it seems] because that wasn't a huge issue), great quality linens and towels, etc. No complaints minus the sheet thing, which yes.. They should fix, but it was SO minor compared with how great everything else was. The hotel: Beautiful interior, great historic building (I think?), really nice location in downtown Providence, DOG FRIENDLY (super dog friendly), and the hotel also provided a really nice location for the wedding reception & cocktail hour we attended. At the reception they were willing to make my husband and me (the only vegetarians there, apparently) a vegetarian dish that wasn't on the menu. (As a side note, the hotel's restaurant isn't very vegetarian-friendly, but that doesn't matter much because the hotel is super close to restaurants with great vegetarian options.) The service: FABULOUS. Great people work here for sure. Never had any complaints about any of the staff. The people at the front desk were always nice and accommodating to my many questions, and one of the girls there brought out two large boxes of great doggie treats for our pups! I was floored! The maid on our floor was always so nice to our dogs & to us. We ordered "continental breakfast" one morning from the hotel's restaurant, and it arrived promptly the next morning and was SO delicious! I figured it wouldn't be much food, but it was a huge tray filled with pastries, muffins, a huge fruit plate, a large orange juice, a whole thermos pitcher of hot chocolate, etc. A great deal, in my opinion! I was shocked how nice this boutique hotel was. It's in a darling area of Providence so to start the location is ideal. The lobby is very pretty with marble floors and high ceilings. My room was clean and included a small coffee maker. (Yay!). There is a restaurant and bar at this hotel and I had drinks at the bar and breakfast in the restaurant and both were great. There is a pretty outside seating area with fire pits and outdoor hanging lights- I so enjoyed my fall evening with a glass of Prosecco!! I'm so glad I didn't stay at one of the big hotels by the mall! read more

First off...Great location. The front desk staff were polite and professional. The hotel itself is boutique, so you expect an older, quaint place giving you the New England flavor and this hotel delivers. WiFi access is great and free. The bar at the bottom of the hotel is very cool looking and the bartender was fabulous. The menu was a little bit light as far as selection goes and we had to send back the flat bread pizza because it was too cold. But overall, I would give the ambiance at the bar an 8 and the service a 7 (because there is no excuse for cold pizza...unless you're eating it the next day after a hangover). I found the hotel on priceline and it was very affordable. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Give it a try when you are marooned in RI. read more

My family stayed here after a wedding at the hotel. During our sleep, with our toddler in the room, someone broke into our hotel room and stole our wallets and baby bag while we were sleeping. In total over $1200 was taken because they Venmo'd money out of my savings account and stole cash. Our licenses were also taken. We immediately called the police when this was discovered when we woke up and there is an ongoing police investigation. We believe it was an inside job because no one other than my spouse and me had a key and there was no forced entry. Hotel management has been unhelpful and unapologetic. They refused to let us look at the security video and didn't even say "I'm sorry this happened to you. Are you safe?" Turns out there is only one security camera in the entire hotel per police. So there was no video showing anyone in our hallway breaking into our room. This hotel does not care about your safety and does not take any responsibility if something goes wrong. I'm thankful no one in my family was hurt and we are all safe. read more

We were having dinner at Gracie's and we wanted something close. Very nice hotel with a very comfy bed. The bar had live music that was too loud and not very good. I literally only booked this as I was trying to find a hotel that had HBO so I could watch the Season 4 Game Of Thrones premier. the hotel inside looks fantastic, the room service was reasonably priced and the chowder was delicious (the Pulled Pork flat bread wasn't quite so good) and the TV was fine - although be warned they do add $4 AND 20% gratuity to your bill...not sure why. The Coffee Machine was awesome too. there are loads of other extras in the room too but I had I feeling I'd get charged for them so didn't really utilize them. the one bad thing about this hotel. It is located next door to a church which decided to ring it's extremely loud bells at random times of the evening and morning. I was woken up ridiculously early by the housekeeping and sent them away only to be just about to drift back off to sleep when the bells started, I tried and tried to sleep again but the bells just kept going and going - not chiming on the hour or anything but just playing random tunes at 8am and starting and stopping at random for the next couple of hours. I was going to rebook the room for a second night until this experience and instead I left and went elsewhere. The hotel is also a non-smoking hotel - something I've successfully avoided during most of my travels through the US - had to sacrifice my comfort and ability to relax in my room without being tossed into the street like a dog in favor of HBO (saying that actually the hotel is pet friendly which means your stinky dog is more than welcome) read more

Hotel Providence is gorgeous and a great place to stay in Providence. The location is perfect - right downtown and close to everything, and the rooms are cozy while spacious. My new husband and I stayed here, with all of our friends and family for our wedding weekend and even had our ceremony in the beautiful tented terrace on the second floor. Rhonda was a our wedding day coordinator - the few months leading up to the wedding she wasn't very responsive over the phone or email, but she's much more helpful in person. Not great when you're planning from another state but it worked out. However, Rhonda was wonderful on the day of the wedding. She checked on all of us throughout the day, answered any of my last minute questions, helped us put finishing touches on the ceremony, and was there to make sure the ceremony went off perfectly. She is definitely a great people person and fantastic with the big picture planning, there were many times I had wished she was more organized and detail oriented BUT I honestly think she just needs an assistant considering Hotel Providence is super busy all the time and she does practically everything. Overall, the hotel itself and Rhonda were amazing and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a special wedding day!! read more

My stay in this hotel was great!! Room was a tiny bit stuffy and warm but I turned the A/C down a few extra degrees and that most definitely helped! TV was working and there were plenty of outlets to use. Decor was really interesting, and the lobby was really nice. There was a bit of garbage under the beds but staff was very helpful. The location was awesome as well, super close to lots of shops. I walked around for a long time, but the walk back to the hotel was somehow very short! I was able to resolve a problem with the hotel. When I got in after a flight from Chicago, they informed me, first that my room wasn't ready, and, an hour later, that I was getting bumped due to overbooking. They offered to put me up at the Radisson and pay for my first night's stay. However, since I was planning to attend meetings across the street for the next four days, this turned out to be a very inconvenient move. It didn't make sense to bump one member of a group that had set aside a block of rooms for the very purpose of being in one place. Thankfully, after some discussion, Matt the manager on duty was able to find a room for me and the problem was resolved amicably. read more

I would actually give this somewhere between three and four stars, but I'm an optimist. Bottom line: the service was wonderful, the rooms were fine but nothing to write home about, and then there were all these offensive little indications of cheap. I live in Providence, but stayed at the Hotel Providence on my wedding weekend to leave our apartment for out-of-town guests who couldn't afford a hotel. I changed into my wedding clothes at the hotel, went to the wedding site.... and realized I'd forgotten my bouquet in the hotel room. We sent a member of the wedding party sprinting back to pick it up. Meanwhile, we called the hotel and told them what had happened, and their star staff had the bouquet waiting at the curb inside two minutes. That was some impressive service. The room, as I said, was okay. We didn't get a suite or anything, just an ordinary double room. And the location, of course, was awesome, if somewhat wasted on locals. Speaking of double rooms, the bathrobe was a nice touch... all one of them. You'd think, if you're going to supply bathrobes, that you'd try to match the number of robes to the number of people staying in the room. Like I said, weirdly cheap. But the crown jewel of weirdly cheap was the bottle of Fiji water displayed prominently in the middle of the desk inside the room, with a giant tag on it that reads something to the effect of, "IF YOU DRINK THIS YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOUR DOLLARS." I could see putting drinks in the mini-fridge, out of sight, with a big sign warning you that they're not free. I'm not bothered that they charge for bottled water. But don't display it like it's a welcome gift and yet put a billboard on it noting its sale at a 450% markup, and make it one of the very first things you see when you enter the room. It's unspeakably tacky. That left a bad taste in my mouth that not even a bottle of Fiji water could wash away. read more

The carpet in our room obviously hadn't been vacuumed. There was old food, fluff, and even a clothing sticker clearly visible on the floor. Moldy caulk around the tub was gross and there is no parking other than street parking that you must find it yourself. What's not to love about this place? Well, turns out there is just one thing. We loved our stay. The room was nice (not a great view, unless you love brick walls) and clean. It had the best hotel bathroom I've ever seen, and they even import their soap from England (which was great, but seemed unnecessary). The best part was the price, which was a steal for the excellent downtown location. Both double beds were comfortable and they even throw in a Keurig coffee maker and free coffee! The one weird thing: There were pillows that didn't match the decor on both beds that read "If these walls could talk." Um, let's not bring that up, weird out-of-place pillow. And it isn't exactly my style, since I'm into cleaner, more modern aesthetics, but it's definitely better than the average property and its location in downtown Providence makes it a real catch. My room was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was great with a huge shower, but the heater in the room only worked intermittently. This is an establishment par excellence. Went for a girls weekend. Packages available from the hotel. WOW. We were treated very well. The room was large, well decorated. Beds were on the firm side. When we needed champange glasses these were provided swiftly and with a smile. Whenever anything was needed, Staff was very helpful. Had a minor setback during one of the meals at the accompanying restaurant. When I informed the managers of the restaurant, we we given more than an apology. The restaurant's food is excellent. Found a great rate on the website and booked a stay here. From beginning to end, this hotel took care of the details... Beautiful furnishings throughout, handpicked art in each room (with information about the individual pieces), lovely and nicely renovated historic building. Soft towels, nice toiletries, comfortable bed. Good size rooms with comfy chair and small sofa for relaxing in the room, so you have someplace to sit besides on the bed. Nice lighting (soft white lamps in different locations in the room), heat that worked and wasn't too loud. Beautiful bathroom with marble floor. Light blocking drapes that worked. Wonderful location--lots of restaurants in the downtown area, and easy walking distance to the East and West sides too. No need to rent a car if you're staying here! A 10-minute walk from the train station. Very friendly staff. They waited till we left to clean the room, and had it clean when we got back (no awkward knocking). Breakfast is not included. The hotel restaurant, Aspire, serves breakfast. It is somewhat pricey but delicious, well prepared and presented. The room has a Keurig machine with complimentary coffee and tea. The only downsides are things that the hotel can't really change. First, there is a nightclub across the street. It was actually still possible to sleep with earplugs, but pretty annoying still. When booking, request a quiet room (there must be some that don't face the club). Second, the hotel itself is not very soundproof... we could hear things from other rooms, and especially from the hallway, as if they were in our own room. That's what you get when you stay somewhere that was built before the dawn of soundproofing, I suppose. DVD players in the rooms would be a nice addition. (Right now it's just a flat screen TV with cable.) Our room did have an iPod dock, which was great. read more

Came for a weekend to trip to Providence and stay 2 nights. The hotel is conveniently located downtown within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. We stayed in one of the suites and as promised there was a bottle of champagne and chocolate awaiting in the room when we arrived. The rooms had a very traditional feel while also having a hint of newness. I know this hotel allows pets, so i was a little weary of my allergies. They did bother me a little, but overall I was ok. One of the great things about this hotel is the fact that they have a live jazz band that plays in their courtyard on the weekends. After dinner we sat out in the courtyard, drank some wine and listened to pretty good band. Definitely very cool to be able to do that and then walk back inside to your hotel room. I liked this place a lot and will definitely stay here again if I'm back in Providence. read more

Stayed here one night over the weekend and was happy with the hotel. It's centrally located, nicely decorated and the rooms are spacious. As others have noted, you will hear the noise from the club next door (we were in room 312). I live in Manhattan (next to a bar) and didn't think it would be a big deal, but it was loud. However, I was too tired from being at the beach all day to have it interfere with sleeping and the bed was really comfortable. All staff I encountered here were extremely friendly and the hotel is pet friendly (which is always a perk). Would likely stay here again when in Providence. read more

My girlfriend and I came to providence to see something at PPAC so this hotel was in the perfect location. We were welcomed by a very friendly staff who smiled and offered suggestions about eateries and things to do in the city. Our room was lovely although the view was of a brick wall. Not really important to me for our one night stay. No mini-fridge which I found odd but again not a big deal considering our short stay. My room was spacious, well decorated, very clean, and had wonderful touches like chocolate covered strawberries welcoming me. I was also impressed that the hotel concierge emailed me in response to my filling out a preferences poll ahead of arriving. At the event the food was excellent prepared by talented Johnson and Wales students. The hotel also customized food signs to be themed for our organization and the food stations were fun. Hotel Providence was above and beyond my expectations! I booked last minute for the hotel and they were incredibly accommodating, answering all and every question I had. It was also our wedding anniversary and the hotel was so generous with unexpected small surprises all along the way -- we had never felt so special! It absolutely made the weekend feel incredible and intimate. The rooms were clean, unique feeling, and overlooked one of Providence's quaint and older looking churches. It made it feel quiet and isolated from the rest of the world while simultaneously a part of the center city. The staff was so warm and welcoming, and I seriously couldn't have asked for more fun, magical, and authentic weekend. Thank you, Hotel Providence for such a memorable time for my husband and me! The vent in the bathroom was broken and it constantly made very loud noise. I asked to switch a room. The front desk just said all rooms were sold out without taking a look at the computer. They would not charge us $30 parking. That is it. They didn't bother to send a maintenance guy to tak a look right away. It was 9:00 pm and we were not familiar with area, how can we book another hotel right away. It is hard to believe a 4-star would provide such bad service. read more

Hotel Providence is sold as a boutique hotel, but really reminds me of a retirement home - antiquated furniture and decor, dimly lit rooms, and long/eerie corridors. The slow service doesn't help - it took 25 minutes for the valet to get our car. However, I can't complain too much because we got a good deal for a Saturday night. Booked a night here on Hotel Tonight. Got a great deal for a weekend away with my now fiance. Not a bad deal. Got a room for cheap which I can't recall if it was a king or queen bed. The hotel does have a cool restaurant in it which I was quick to find out has good brunch. One thing that I have mixed reviews on is the Pet Friendly aspect. All for hotels being pet friendly, I think if you are pet friendly you either need to designate "pet friendly" rooms or have a meticulous cleaning crew. We found a lot of dog hairs in our hotel room which was terrible because my fiance is allergic to dogs. It's fine that they are in the hotel, just think they need to separate "dog rooms" and "no dog rooms."....if that makes sense. read more

We hosted our coed bachelor/bachelorette social here with some late night snacks. We traveled up to Providence on this day and was running super late! I thought we would miss our own social. Thankfully, they worked with us and pushed the time up so we could get in, change clothes, then dine without ease. The food was very good! Really enjoyed the grilled cheese and flatbread pizza. Okay this hotel has great reviews. Th y said the room would be ready at 4 PM we arrived after six and was told we'd have to wait I put up a bit of a fuss as we had traveled some distance and we' were tired so the room became available in about ten minutes. They say Valet parking but no valet we waited no valet. There is a lot very close by. Save money and park there, why when we left and I actually saw the valet and asked where he was the night before he had no answer and said well you saved money anyway. The bottles of water in the room are $4.00 a piece!!! Most upscale hotels give you water!! We generally stay at The Providence Biltmore and next time we're going back to the Biltmore this place is not worth it. The carpeting on the second floor is a tripping hazard and the hallways are damp with moisture. Ew no thanks. Try another place. The room was clean. read more

Let me first start out by saying I rarely ever write reviews. Obviously we didn't have a pleasant experience & that is why I am writing. We stay at many hotels for travel competitions all over. When we arrived our room was not ready & were told to go have lunch or something down the road and they would contact us when our room was ready. So we did and no one ever contacted us. When we came back we checked into our room where there was a breakfast tray laying in the corner of the hallway. The room was clean. We went downstairs around 5:30 to the hotel restaurant to find that they could not seat us because they were booked & we would have had to make reservations. Strange that there were only maybe 6 ppl in there? Being hotel guests and already paying their $30 overnight parking fee we weren't looking to go far. They directed us to a pizza place. This is not a nice area to be walking around at night with a child. When we checked out the next day that same breakfast tray was in the hallway untouched. Decided to try the restaurant again for breakfast that morning. No one was in there and we had to wait several minutes until the hostess was done having a conversation with another worker to even look our way. I asked for an email receipt for our stay upon checkout. They never sent it. Poor customer service & not worth the money so we will not be staying here again. read more
