I really want to like it, but, I can't. I seldom give anything but 4&5 star reviews because I want to see small business succeed. These people have a cool concept. Working shop you can view thru restaurant windows, see them restore hot rods. But not enough attention is being paid to the restaurant. Food is ok, service is so-so, kitchen is slow. Like seriously slow. So, if you must go, make sure you go between 9 and 5 on a weekday, so at least you'll be entertained by the work going on in the shop while you wait for that meal. read more

Cool looking place. Probably the best looking concept in Tucson, but to start off the restaurant wasn't packed and we were told we could be seated but food would take an hour to get to us. At least our waitress helped us with items we could order that would be quicker. Loved the t-bucket drink. Now to the food. It was low grade bar food. Not what I expected for a place that looks this great. The best was the shrimp poppers (would've been better if they were hot when we got them). The mac n cheese was lacking flavor and most importantly cheese. Nothing I could rave about except the look of this place. Wouldn't travel all that way for the food again. read more

The server was extremely helpful and efficient, and when we first walked in the manager greeted us and was very friendly and appreciative of our business. This place is a breath of fresh air. Finally an 'upscale' location we are proud to bring out of town visitors to. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. JJ, the manager, took a few moments to stop at our table and talk to us and the food was very, very good. It is an impressive building and fun atmosphere. A unique and wonderful place to eat and drink. The staff is excellent with prompt and courteous service. I've been there on slow and busy nights. On busy nights, staff is running their tails off to accommodate people. As expected service slows, but one I'm there to relax and 2 I know staff will make things right if I ever had any issues. Hot Rods is a very interesting and creative location. The building is fine crafted and the family atmosphere is great. If you prefer an adult setting there is a blocked of loft and bar. While eating you can watch people working on a variety of old 'Hotrods' cars in the garage, which is pretty innovative and insightful experience. In retrospect, the experience is nice however there are a few things that were bothersome: The service was friendly and prompt and the food tasted next to average but I did not feel like the cost of food matched up with the service experience. It felt more like a diner with expensive food ($10-$13 dollar burgers). The food was good but felt awfully greasy and there was no wow factor about it. It was not at a completely disappointing level but to put it bluntly it was, "ok." Overall, I will most likely be going to Hotrods in the future but it is not a location I would suggest to a person who is not enthralled with theme and who minds when paying more than usual for "ok" food. read more

The best part of this place is the decor. Everything strictly conforms to the old school car theme from the name to the main floor view of the garage to the names on the menu. My recent visit was prompted by attending a local high school graduation, after which there was a short selection of restaurants open and good for groups. Hot Rods was happy to help us out. All of the food is pretty standard American fare without any flair. Our group got an assortment of pulled pork sandwiches, chili, pizza, etc. the food was decent but nothing that stands out is is unique. It is an easy crowd pleaser, as there is something for everyone. Also very good for families, and given the number of tv's, probably a good place to catch a game. Two in our group got mixed slushy type drinks and after we all agreed that they were flavorless, we politely sent them back. Even though there is a full bar, I would suggest sticking with beer as they serve some great local brews. read more

Such a cool place to visit! Come by on the weekend when car clubs come by and hang out in front. Lots of older folks frequent it, but our family and young kids Loved being able to see down into the hotrod shop below the restaurant and watch the mechanics work. Our appetizers came out 45 minutes after ordering and after an hour and a half, we still didn't get our food. The buffalo wings were cold and soggy. We also never got refills on our drinks. SWMBO's salad was good, but she described the chicken as rubbery. She said the saving grace was the pear/apple dressing. The Big Mudder was described in the menu as: "Molten chocolate cake with a chocolate drizzle and whipped cream "skid"." The actual presentation was a bit like a cold, chocolate covered hockey puck that had nothing molten about it. OTOH, there was enough vanilla ice cream & whipped cream to save the dessert. We went to Hotrods after the NASCAR race. We arrived at 10pm. We were seated and given menus. A few minutes later a waiter told us the kitchen was closed. Why would the closest restaurant to the raceway be closed at 10pm? Service was terrible. Came in with a party of four and it took 30 minutes to get our food which is a long time for some burgers. But that is not the worst part. Not once during that time did our server come to check on us or offer to refill drinks. When the food finally came on of the sides of fries was missing and i was told "sorry but we gave your burger to the wrong table." It took another 25 minutes to get my food by which time the rest of my party was done eating. Then finally the missing fries were brought out. To finish of this horrible experience, it took the server an additional 20 minutes just to bring the check after we asked for it! Ridiculous! Avoid this place. Since there are so few restaraunts in Vail, I decided to give this place another chance. They disappointed as usual. When we arrived, there was no hostess at the front. We waited 10-15 minutes before someone noticed us and seated us. This might be understandable if they were busy, but they weren't. There were only 4 other tables seated in this very large restaurant. I hoped to sit at one of the tables close to the garage area, so that my kids could look at the cars. Even though the place was nearly empty, they didn't even offer us one of those tables. The table that we were Sat at was greasy and appeared not to have been wiped down at all. Even though our waitress only had one other table than us, the service was extremely slow. It was 20-30 minutes for us to even order drinks. When the food finally came it was mediocre. It was bland and unseasoned. My wife ordered a burger and said that it was actually decent. There wascpne thing I noticed that showed just how little the servers cared about doing their jobs. Despite how slow it was (3 servers for 4 tables) , they couldn't even bother to bus the tables when people left the restaurant. There were a couple of tables that were unbussed when we first sat down, and the staff didn't even bus them until we were leaving ( we were there almost 2 hours due to the extremely slow service). Additionally, when I used the restroom it was absolutely filthy. It appeared to me that it had been days since the men's restroom was cleaned. The level of service here is completely unacceptable. During the entire time I was there I never saw a single person that appeared to be a manager. I used to work several service industry jobs when I was younger, and this level of service would be unacceptable in even the worst places where I worked. I love in Vail, and there is a lack of bars as well as of decent places to eat. I really want this place to succeed and be good, but it is horrible. I have to think that the owner makes money in other industries and just operates this place as a loss / tax write off. There is no other explanation of why this place is still open. This place sucks. This was our first time here. we have no plans to return. I ordered the quesadilla with added carne asada and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and coleslaw. The pulled pork was not pulled pork: it was in strips, dry and overdone. The barbeque sauce tasted like it came out of a $2 bottle from the store. My husband did not receive his fries but did receive 2 orders of coleslaw. The waitress did, after we pointed it out, eventually, bring the fries which were dropped off with the barbeque sauce that should have been delivered with pretend pulled pork sandwich. We never did get asked for or receive ketchup or mustard to go with the fries. They refilled my iced tea with sweet tea. As soon as I looked at the menu I had a feeling that we should leave. We were sadly disappointed here. It was noisy and felt like a noisy little cafeteria. I was looking forward to going there because we love old cars and the old time atmosphere of some of the restaurants we have visited in other towns along highways such as in Williams, so maybe we were expecting to much. The noise levels we experienced during our visit was pretty high. We were not served right away and felt like the servers younger crowd aged customers were more important than we were.
