I've never had Houligans before and had no expectations so I'm not too disappointed and it was inexpensive. Not that it matters, but the logo/emblem is an Irish clover. It's somewhat of a bar/pub restaurant. The place was full of regulars that obliviously come there a lot to drink beer and watch sports. Lets just say, very minimal crowd variety. Ok no crowd variety when I was there. I did talk to a man at the bar, he was nice. I called to ask for my money back and the person, Mike, who answered the phone was pretty rude and un sympathetic to the situation. Told me he couldn't do anything if we didn't take the food back, and that a picture wasn't enough. Seems like this is something that happens at this restaurant quite often as Mike, and the manager Larry weren't really phased. Wish management handled this differently. Very unique place a mile from Daytona MotorSpeedway and was completely worth it before the race. In the booth there were TVs, which occupied the kids. The food was your typical bar food nothing to special. The customer service was average. Got 20 wings 1/2 hot garlic and 1/2 sweet chili and got them "Wally style" - which means they roll the fried wings in sauce and then finish them off on the grill...brilliant! Unique and delicious way to get your wings! Wings were 5 star for sure. The cheese fries were super disappointing. Seasoned fries were great, but they drowned them in cheese sauce..or cheese whiz. THEY DELIVERED! Houligans is a sports bar that is located very close to the airport and our hotel. We did not want to go out to eat once we were settled so we decided to call in our order and take it to go. We ordered chicken quesadillas and plain chicken wings. The orders were prepared quickly and were piping hot when my husband returned. The quesadillas were very nicely prepared with peppers, onions and cheese in addition to the chicken. They were very generously sized and I could only manage to eat two slices at the time, (there were four total). I saved them for later and they were just as good. Although my order arrived with sour cream and salsa, they weren't necessary because they were perfect "as is". The wings were delicious and perfectly seasoned but I do wish that they had been served with a more generous serving of ranch dressing that was more substantial in structure. Although the sauce had a good flavor, it was very thin and a bit messy. I have never seen such a thin ranch and I do hope that they aren't "watering down" the sauce. Despite the little things, Hooligans delivered and we really enjoyed their food. Food was decent. If you like naked/grilled/smoky wings that are meaty, definitely order some in different flavors as they are very good. The side salad consisted of: * iceberg w/a handful of croutons * 2 tiny cherry tomatoes * 3 skinny onion rings * 3 cucumber slices (Btw, allergy sufferers beware when making special requests, as I specifically asked for the last 3 ingredients to be held - yet there they were staring back at me). The buffalo shrimp appetizer included some of the largest shrimp I'd ever seen/had. The mild sauce had quite a kick to it (glad I didn't choose medium!), but wish it had been served on the side since it completely obliterated the crunch on the breading/batter. Also, the shrimp were served over a bed of shredded lettuce, which probably contributed to the sogginess (nothing like giant pieces of shrimp fresh from the fryer sitting on shredded lettuce to steam things up). When we mentioned that we liked the shrimp BUT - our server practically finished the sentence for us about the soggy breading - so they know about the problem from other patrons bringing it up (not sure why kitchen hasn't come up w/a fix then??). For what it's worth, our server did say that next time we could order w/the sauce on the side and/or specify the shrimp to be "extra crispy". The service started out well but did not end that way. It took forever for the server to notice it was time for a to-go box. Then another 20 minutes before she returned to learn that no, she had not dropped off the check. An additional 10 minutes to get change back after paying. Though she was nice when visiting our table and interacting with is, would ask for a different server if ever back here again and seated in her area. read more
