The only reason I gave this restaurant 3 stars is because of the lack of consistency. Sometimes the food is amazing and other times it's been pretty disappointing. First it took a good min to get our food. I had the burger with fries and might I say I was so disappointed. The burger had no taste and the fries were cold. So I tried the meatloaf and that was the same as the burger. My girl ordered the steak and ask for medium well and it came out medium rare. We are at this restaurant several times during the weekend and they never disappointed as far as taste of the food. The staff answering the phone and taking orders might need a bit more training. I think all staff should know what's being served on the menu and what everything is.. when I ordered the scallop and risotto to eat at the hotel bar, they packed the order to go by accident so I didn't know what this green sauce was and where it went on the dish. I asked the staff that delivered the food and she didn't know what the sauce was or where it went in the dish. Otherwise, very good food and would eat here again when in town. read more

Over the years I've dined at several Houlihans restaurants so I thought I would give this one a try since I'm local. Big mistake! First of all I understand the whole food shortage thing, no way around that. The menu they have posted online is nowhere close to the menu they have available in the restaurant. On the menu in the restaurant they tout how they cook everything from scratch and that's a lie. The French dip sandwich was nothing but a pile of warmed up frozen meat, definitely not sliced off a real prime rib. The fries were served lukewarm at best. Then to top it off we sat at the bar and the bartender obviously didn't care one bit about his guests. Bad food, bad service, but I'll give it two stars because the queso appetizer was passable, although like everything else, lukewarm. read more

I received an email from Houlihan's weeks ago, advertising their St. Patrick's Day feast. Corned beef and cabbage. I started planning for it that day. I had my Wife, Brother and Sister in law in tow. We get there early at 4:45pm. "Table for four, please." I can't wait to eat some corned beef. Response: "Sorry, we're all out of corned beef." WHAT? What kinda sh!t is this? This is right off I-35. It's located in a hotel but you can park out n front of the restaurant. The French onion soup is amazing. My husband I shared that and the seared scallops. It was all delicious and we could not even finish it. We appreciated that they brought the entree out on two plates instead of one. Always a very nice touch. My friends and I had the worst experience at this restaurant when we were here in May. The waitstaff and management completely mishandled the situation which made it even worse. We came in on a quiet night and grabbed a table outside. 20 minutes went by before a waiter came over, even though we were told we were in someone's section and they would come over quickly. They took our order and it was another 20 minutes before we got our drinks. Half of the orders were wrong. Dinner took forever to come out and the meals didn't come out together so we were left waiting. The worst of the matter was that my friend ordered a dirty martini and they made it wrong - they left out the olive juice. So the waiter came back with a jar of olive juice for her to add to her drink. Obviously this was a really bad idea because the proportions were not right. We had to physically walk into the restaurant to the bar where the bartender was completely embarrassed by the inept waiter. Another friend ordered a second drink, which never came. Eventually, we gave up and when we got the bill, we were still charged for this drink. When we spoke to the manager, they apologized but refused to do anything to be helpful. Only when we insisted that we were absolutely not paying for drinks that never even came did they think to remove the drink. The manager offered $10 off the bill as an apology but it was too little too late. They should have comped the meals that came out 30 minutes later than everyone elses as well as the drinks they messed up numerous times. What a disappointing experience. If you're in Denton, save yourself the trouble and stay far away from here. read more

The restaurant was clean and we were quickly sat. Reviewing the room maybe 5 total tables inside and a couple outside. I was patient as it was my father in laws birthday dinner. After sitting about 10 mins still no one even to acknowledge us for drink orders. Finally 5 minutes later we were approached by the hostess and she made some clueless response. We ordered and app and finally received our drinks. Waiter made some quick excuses on the delay , ordered food and it came out timely and was decent. Waiter continued to make excuses as he was dropping the bill and offered dessert after we said it was my father in laws b day. For an higher end restaurant I would expect better even in reduced staffing environments. Second trip there and both were enough to never chose to spend my money there again. read more

Wow first off, I'm surprised this place has 3 stars. Came here for New Year's Eve and the love was PACKED. I got my food on time. Mushrooms, steak, everything was perfect. Waitstaff was amazing. Looked back into the kitchen and every person working was running around making sure food got out to people. The inconsistency is remarkable! Could best be described as "sometimes a maybe good, sometimes a maybe shit!' I've eaten there several times now and it's 50/50 on whether or not it'll be good or not. The salads are good, on point! The Meat Loaf & Chicken Alfredo are NOT so good. I found myself wanting my money & calories back. The Meat Loaf was bla & the Chicken in the Chicken Alfredo was Quite rubbery though the noodles & sauce had good flavor. The portion was small for the $18.94 price. (Current pricing not up to date in Yelp pics) Not even any Garlic Toast served like every other place serving the same dish. So last night we went to Houlihans with a group of about 30 people. I have to say it was a bit of a debacle in that they were out of several items (including the daily special) by 6 pm. To top it off one of the waitstaff quit and walked out before we were seated. This caused a lot of confusion and slow service. Now you are probably thinking how could you give this review 4 stars? Well I would have given it 2 stars if not for the friendly and kind GM Robert and our server Kori. They really gave it their all to salvage what could have been a terrible dining experience. It ended up as a fun one. Also, the appetizers we did eat were quite yummy. So this will go down as s memory making experience And again kudos to Robert and Kori! read more

We had to ask to be seated because there was no one at the hostess stand and she was annoyed and inattentive. She barely engaged with us, walked off while we were trying to ask questions, didn't refill our drinks and had a scowl on her face the whole time. I was uncomfortable. This place isn't all that new anymore, so the bugs should be worked out. Unfortunately, they are not. To begin, we were seated at an absolutely filthy table. There were big pieces of cheese, bread, french fries, and lettuce on the chairs and on the floor. We pointed this out to the hostess, and told her we were moving to another table. One might assume that the mess would then be cleaned up, but not so. The hostess seated another party at the filthy table, with no attempt whatsoever to clean it. Service was generally slow, there was some odd excuse about handles being broken on pitchers for giving us sangria in a much smaller glass than their usual, but charging us for the larger one. Went in for a drink around 930 on new years day. Was really just going in to check out the place. Asked the barkeep if anyone was sitting at the seat I chose. There was a couple to my right that just checked out and a couple to the left that had drinks. A group of 6 or so behind me getting their food one order at a time. So bar keep kept running back and forth to the kitchen. Then one of the burgers they ordered cheese wasn't melted, so back to the kitchen he went. Came back did some dishes behind the bar and walked back in front of me. So after 6 or 8 minute of waiting to get acknowledged I left. I gave it a two star cause the menu looked alright as well as the ambiance of the place. So I went next door to Andy B's. I may give it another go sometime. read more

So the food was really good. We had two apps and two mains. I was really impressed. The Service was a disaster. Avoid eating at the bar. We were ignored for long stretch's with empty drinks while bartender had shots with friends. We heard him talking to another couple saying "Blame Ryan" who was someone or other "in the back" for their problems. This took away from two really great apps and mains. read more

Beautiful restaurant and bar in the Embassy Suites Hotel. We sat in a booth just at the end of the bar. Server was prompt and we had the Spinach Dip app before ordering dinner. There was only one customer seated at the bar at that time. Before receiving our Entree the bar patron was provided a glass for his "chewing tobacco!" This was absolutely disgusting and I believe management should be made aware. ( Food very good so gave 4 stars) read more

This is based on the 3-4 times we have been to the Denton, TX location. The food has generally been very good. The 'Shrooms are unbeatable, and we've also particularly enjoyed the scallops, ahi tuna, stuffed chicken breast, and chicken parmesan in past visits. The last time we went (yesterday - Father's Day) started off as a miss but ended very well. The waitress had made a mistake in getting our appetizers and main courses served at the same time, rather than serving the apps first and then the main course after we had a chance to finish the apps. When it was first served, the main course was lukewarm at best. The waitress was very apologetic about this, and when we were served our main course again at the appropriate time, the food temperature was fine. The only issue was that my wife's scallops dish was supposed to include asparagus and there were maybe just a few tiny pieces. In the past, there was much more of it. All in all, though, she enjoyed it very much. I had the meatloaf entree, which was very tasty (though it could have used a bit more gravy). I actually had leftovers from it today, and it tasted even better (just a thought for anybody else getting this dish, since it's quite a lot to eat all at once). Oh, and the 'Shrooms were as delicious as ever. We've noticed in recent visits that it has felt quite rushed. More than once when we've been in the middle of a course the waiter or waitress has asked us if we're ready for the next course. We'll go to a fast food restaurant if we want to go in and out quickly, but we didn't think Houlihan's was supposed to be this type of place. We prefer to eat in a leisurely manner when we come here, and we hope that doesn't happen in the future. While I'm sure getting more customers helps the waitstaff bring in more business in the short term, it's not conducive to an atmosphere of putting the customer's well-being first. Even with the problems we've faced, there is still plenty to recommend this restaurant. Mistakes will no doubt be made, but as long as the attitude our waitress had of correcting mistakes quickly and apologetically is one adopted by the restaurant leadership and staff as a whole, and as long as quality food and service are prioritized, this Houlihan's will do well. read more
