This is our go-to place after our son's games to grab their ultimate nachos - still our favorite nachos - and their food overall is pretty good for a chain. I like the California mashers (cauliflower mashed potatoes) as an alternative to fries. Tonight I had the 1/2 rack of ribs and they were very good. My wife tried their new crab melt and it was good and a huge portion. My son got the steak fajita and he was pleased with that. We skipped dessert tonight but they have some nice choices . What's consistent at this location is the friendly, gracious service from our server, Verne! Very attentive, hospitable and is a gentleman. Ask for Verne when you're there! read more

Haven't been to Houlihans in years. I used to go to Houlihan's in Secaucus very often back in the 80's and always loved the place. They make the best shrooms around and the fajitas are always a treat. I went back after doing some shopping and truly enjoyed a good meal and some good Brooklyn hazy IPA's. The server was a really nice young man who was so polite it was a pleasure to sit and eat there. The place is dimly lit and quite nice inside with a nice crowd of people dining and chatting. Haven't been to Houlihan for sometime now so decided to have a meal and some appetizers-went straight to one of my favorite shrooms delicious when you bit into them- shrooms has this melted cream that come out yummy-i also had the steak fajitas-creamy potato soups with bacon so good-was served by this very polite attentive young man call Brian -will definitely return to houlahans. I was really scratching my head as to why some people said this place is god's gift to humanity. I hadn't hit up a Houlihan's in decades but I was nearby and needed to find a food option quickly so I ended up at this location. Generally it was just fine, but nothing to scream about. The place was pretty empty on a Saturday night which was a generally bad sign. The ambiance was dark and it took a while for someone to show up to the front to get seated. The server was fine though he was somewhat low energy and didn't exactly made the experience that great, but he did his job just fine. The food itself was meh for the most part. The much lauded stuffed mushrooms - I made a point of ordering it - and it tasted pretty gross tbh. I didn't even finish my order, as the mushrooms were incredibly watery and tasteless. It basically was a wet mushroom filled with blue cheese that was fried into a hard/greasy ball. Not tasty in any way. I also chose the Sedona shrimp pasta as the prix fixe option. The pasta was fine (a bit al dente) and the flavor was decent but it was incredibly salty and overwhelming. This dish is definitely on the heavy side so keep that in mind. The best part of the meal was actually the vanilla cheesecake at the end. But given all the other way better food options in the general area, I would not come back. read more

I used to work down the street and we could come here pretty regularly after work. Last night everybody else around seemed to have a wait and I happened to be with a picky eater. Houlihan's has something for everyone and never disappoints. I always enjoyed their apps and their burgers but have been a vegan for nearly a year. Ok so I cheated and had a vegetarian meal and had cheese. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and their famous fried mushrooms. The spinach dip was awesome, it really tasted like anybody else's artichoke dip and I was surprised that everybody at the table would eat it. The mushrooms were remarkable, these were huge mushrooms, fried and serviced with a horseradish sauce. They have an impossible burger on the menu and I appreciate the vegan option and I will definitely try in the future. I got the vege-burger me it was slamming. I have no idea what the patty was but the caramelized onions, cheese and BBQ sauce was phenomenal. I heard their ahi tuna salad was awesome but I didn't try any. Somebody else ordered nachos and said they were good as well. I was very happy when our sever brought to-go boxes for us. No plastic!!! Oh hoolihans, how I appreciate you. Most people think plastic gets recycled but 91% of it does not get recycled and ends up in a landfill or as micro-plastics in our oceans to ultimately be consumed by animals or humans. Hoolihans is great. You can eat inside or out. They have a bar and a great selection at great prices. We went here on a Sunday and were surprised and excited that they had happy hour all day at the bar. We ordered some drinks and a couple of appetizers to share. The drink's definitely hit the spot but the food was okay quality. We ordered the nachos, avocado chicken egg rolls, and chicken tenders. The service was also very slow. I love Love LOve LOVe LOVE this place!! I always make it a point to visit this location in particular. From the staff, ambiance, food, decor, energy, managers to the guest. Amazing location. Food is top tier. Undefeated. Never a bad meal! Everything is always on top. Staff is very professional and welcoming. Food comes out hot and correct every single time. I've been coming here for 15+ years and won't stop. I was so upset they stopped serving the Navajo Chicken Pasta and the GM overheard me mentioning it. Unbeknownst to me, he comes out 20 minutes later with it. I thought I knew costumer service/ hospitality up until know. I've been coming here for years and once the one in Fairfield closed this became our new location when we wanted to visit Houli's. In the last month, I've been here twice and I held off on reviewing the first time because I figured it was maybe a one off but here goes my review. The service is always good, seems like new management and waiters but overall they were fine. Now the food...new chef maybe? Food these past two visits has declined in quality for me. This time around I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. It tasted more like a chipotle sauce and it was sweet? Opposite of what I think of when you say buffalo. To top it off the chicken looked old. Houlihan's is one of my favorite chain restaurants. My mom loved her vegetarian burger & the cinnamon fries were amazing. Quesadilla were really good, the caramelized onions just melt in your mouth. The sangria was tasty too. The Sedona shrimp pasta i did not care for, the pasta was bland but the broth was so spicy. Definitely wont order that again. But overall had a good experience. I actually like Houlihan's for their eclectic menu including their amazing gumbo, but on a recent visit the food was so-so at best. Wings & Things Appetizer Sampler ($16.99, 4/5) - was definitely a good start as we were slightly famished and needed quick filling bites that also taste good. Who could dislike their famous Shrooms that are crispy bite-sized fungi suckers oozing with garlicky cream cheese? (Maybe our hearts, but that's about it) The loaded potato skins and their wings were pretty good too, with their horseradish sauce. Fish and Chips ($16.99, 2/5) - Bad choice. Paltry fillets of cod with barely a whiff of flavor paired with decent fries and cole slaw. Should've gone with Sedona shrimp pasta... Seared Salmon Pesto - ($15.99, 4/5) - This was surprisingly decent. On a bed of zucchini noodles was a juicy chunk of salmon with perfect grill marks that had smoky fragrance offset by nuttiness of the pesto. Tomatoes and balsamic glaze added the acid profile to round out this dish. The most balanced item we ordered that night. My hunger pang was satisfied and we had doggy bags for tomorrow given the quantities at these restaurants... but we definitely felt very heavy after eating. All those fried foods will obviously do that to you. Service was slightly lacking as the waitress forgot to bring utensils even after taking our order so we had to ask after we were staring at the appetizer for a good minute or so. It's a great location and a family restaurant that I've grown into over the years though... I'll just have to order better next time. read more
